- Join Riley and me as we set out on an afternoon small game hunt. The objective is to expose my puppy Riley to grouse hunting, all done in a respectful way. Join as we walk trails in the forest on a brisk autumn day that leads to interesting areas as we seek Ruffed Grouse. The day ends with success and a quick tailgate lunch!

I have lots of grouse in my woodlot , especially the thick stuff as most of my lot is thick . I see they planted millions of acres of trees in rows and its never a forest, just a bunch of trees all the same . Cheers
Your right its not a forest, more like a tree garden. Especially when you consider they spray pesticide to kill and prevent other tree species from growing.

Riley is doing very well. It's good that his natural instinct is to keep you in his sight instead of running off. You had success and fresh grouse will be on the table! The alcohol stove is something I haven't tried. I wasn't aware that they perform better in warmer temperatures. So nice to be outside and exploring little roads. That was always the best part of any hunt; exploring and walking the off-the-beaten-path-trails. Nice weather too! Maybe there's fish in that lake and you'll have to come back to it?? Great video, Marc! Keep up the great work on your channel!!
The alcohol stove is ok, as temps get colder you get less vapours and that makes it harder for the stove to bloom. Riley is turning out to be good boy in the bush. Next summer will be a true test of that! I may start doing trails in the Sumer just for the hike of it, it is fun to explore👍

I'm curious about the lake you found. Do you think you could get wheels for the canoe and push or pull it into there on the trail? They sell wheel kits for kayaks, maybe for canoes too? Better yet, get Doug to buy the wheel kit and he can haul the canoe in there while you watch.@@OpenAirOutdoors

What a good boy! Getting the hang of it. The nice thing about cocker spaniels is their very loyal I have had cocker spaniels since 1994 and I will always have that breed. Excellent video brother
Riley is my first Cocker and I'm totally loving the little guy! He's full of character and eager to just hang out with me. As much as I miss my girl Misty I feel Riley will be an awesome companion in my back country adventures 👍

Hi Marc! Nice to meet you. I saw you were over at my page so I decided to come check out your channel as well. Seems we have a lot of common ground. Love Grouse hunting. Riley looks like a great pup! Have had many a cup of ramen on the tailgate too! We do the same, love driving the logging roads and then getting out and walking for those ruffies. Looking forward to following your outings!
