except for the one flop by Cucurella, at the end of the match(at such a critical time for england) (he completely fooled the referees), and maybe a couple other throughout the tournament - but MUCH less than in the past. all respect to Spain, they were definitely the team to beat.

As an Englishmen currently away from the action living in the United States, I can but say good show to the Spaniards. They played beautifully, like they always do.
Rodri winning player of the tournament isn't undeserved but we gotta acknowledge Olmo. He was a bench player in the group stage but then became Spain's most impactful player in the knockouts, winning the golden boot. I mean he was super clutch for them.
That header from Olmo at the very end to block the on-target header from England attempting to tie it was the play of the game. Talk about being at the right place at the right time. Wow.

Actually, Cucurella made one mistake and it led to the goal against Spain but he played really well and we loved how he was trying to play like Carvajal but couldn't disguise the physicality. But he was good. Carvajal deserved Player of the Tournament and the Ballon D'Or this year. He's at a different level now.
Were we watching the same game? Saka was able to get around him several times. One of the times Walker was able to send in a cross. Saka regularly puts Cucurella on toast, he needed Nico Williams to double up to help him

Lamine does what he does so well, lures, controls then penetrates and dishes passes to the space they need to go, with the right pace, spin.... Extraordinary work to set up that Nico Williams goal. Some assists are worth almost as much as the goal themselves.

Actually, Cucurella made one mistake and it led to the goal against Spain but he played really well and we loved how he was trying to play like Carvajal but couldn't disguise the physicality. But he was good. Carvajal deserved Player of the Tournament and the Ballon D'Or this year. He's at a different level now.

Watching this team from Spain play unselfishly, dominating all other teams, reminds me of the way England used to play when I was growing up in Greece. England was absolutely my favorite team, and English soccer intoxicating to watch because of the prevailing mentality at the time: attack, attack! This was a great showing by England. For a small footballing nation, without any significant tournoment history, back to back finals is a huge achievement.
