Ship Model Secrets: How Real Sailing Ship Inspires
🌐English subtitles.
This video is about the pailebot Santa Eulàlia. Although this isn't a ship model, it is a real sailing ship, which makes it interesting for anyone involved in model ship building. The ship has been reconstructed by the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and provides ship modelers with a great opportunity to see and touch numerous ship construction and rigging elements up close.

HI awesome technique for the final plank what glue do you use
Hi, thanks. In this case - PVA (“white”) glue.
@@shipmodelideas Thank you
Очень изящно.Спасибо.
Thank you 🙏
At this point, your model is a better ship than the actual Santa Maria.
Thank you for good words. …if it goes on like this, I will probably need to rename the ship. 🤣🤣🤣
Natural voice 100%. Subbed. Love your content.
When the new video? 🥺🥺🥺
😔
That’s a great idea. Than’ you.
Как завершающее действие , руль в последнею очередь. У моделиста это догма😊
до последней там еще далековато :)
Natural voice please
🙏
Beautiful. I, personally, would not used high gloss on any exposed wood. The original teak decks and cabin trunks were not glossy. The deck would be far too slippery.
😀👍 me too! that was done on request.
@@shipmodelideas 👍
Nice idea, your natural voice is much better.
Thanks a lot🙏
Di puo realizzarlo al tornio
Yes, perhaps it’s possible.
Again, fantastic skills! Great job!! You're, in many ways, showing how to improve a ship's kit. Thanks!!
Thank you indeed for good words! 🙏
Some good ideas that simplify the building of the ship's hull, improving the original kit. Great set of skills, namelly the Autocad's - have you considered some videos regarding the use of CAD in ship's building? Great job!!
Thank you for good words and an idea. Probably I will do it sometime. However there is nothing special in using CAD for shipmodelling. Principles and tools are absolutely the same. Only the scale may differ. What is mire important- how you going to machine the designed part. And this is where g-code for particular CNC comes. With printers, though, it’s a bit more simple.
@@shipmodelideas I'm not a CAD's expert. I only use it for 2D. Unfortunatly, CAD 3D is, to me, a black area, so to speak. So I welcome your eventual efford to do a video on that! ;o)
from were you have machin to make?
Hi, you may read about my cnc here shipsofscale.com/sosforums/threads/my-cnc-machine-what-and-why.12096/post-313323
Оба варианта норм!
I think you should use your natural voice please. I'm also researching to know as much as I can before trying to build a wooden plank on model ship. I would greatly appreciate any information you can give me.
There are many books available, I learnd a lot from them. Also there are many videos on RUclips. Some are on my channel. Also you may check Olha Batchvarov www.youtube.com/@OlhaBatchvarov she has many logs of hulls building. And forums, of course. I like the one called 'Ships of Scale'.
Wetting and a soldering iron eliminates all this. Free form and eyeballing with this method is fast and easy. Michael
Dear Michael, thank you for your comment. It would be great if everything were as you write. In practice, using a soldering iron, an iron, or even a metal desk lamp are well-known and accessible old-school techniques that work, but in some cases, they do not provide optimal results.
Does this technique work for thicker planks also? Thanks for sharing! I like both voices.
Yes, in principle it works, but you have to slightly change a device. I quickly made a kind of it for 1 mm thick plank here: ruclips.net/video/DOLHlq8irSQ/видео.htmlsi=_SSsBaMeXqiUMCZ0
@@shipmodelideas Genius!! Thank you!!

very interesting and useful video! thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this useful idea! I don't know if I can build a tool like this, but maybe I can. It was good to hear your natural voice too, it's an attractive voice.
Definitely, you can! My first version of the tool was made even without a CNC. I simply glued thinner planks to thicker bars using cyanoacrylate to ensure some level of water resistance. The thickness of the thinner planks should be slightly greater than that of the planks you're planning to bend. 😉
Wow
Definitely your real voice 😊
Thank you! 🙏

Love your method and your voice even though I am not a native anglophone. 👍🏼

Hello friend, fantastic work. How can I get this template with the correct radius to cut the excess? thank you very much
Do you mean a curved pattern? That's a good question. I don't know where you can buy this now. I have had my pattern since my student days at the engineering university. But I think now it can be drawn in CAD (for example AutoCAD or Fusion 360) and then cut with a laser or on a CNC machine.
@@shipmodelideas Hi friend, Thanks for the answer. I bought the curved pattern in China. I'm building Santa Maria based on your changes and without a model, just with Amati's plans. Keep up the excellent work.
Stunning! Your treatment of the entire ship looks amazing. Great detail!
Thank you for good words. 🙏 That’s my aim. It’s a kind of training before more difficult work;)
Fantastic results! Your detail is amazing!
Thank you so much!

Great video! How old is this ship ?
the ship was officially launched on 15 January 1919
Can I ask what type of oil you use and the brand?
For tinting, I use artist's oil paint, heavily diluted with solvent for artist's oil paints. and to coat the wood after staining, I most often use linseed oil.
What tissue did you used?
At this scale, the fabric should be as thin as possible. Look in your local stores for white fabric for shirts, but thin cambric is better.
can these little models actually float in water?
a counter question - why is this so important? 😉
Hi! May ou tell me which model of milling machine do you use?
Hi! Sure! You may read about the machine here: shipsofscale.com/sosforums/threads/my-cnc-machine-what-and-why.12096/
@@shipmodelideas thank you!
Genious!
Great work, congratulations! I am also working on this model, could you tell us what type of varnish (or brand) you used to get such a beautiful deck color? Thank you !
Thank you 🙏. It was a glossy wood glaze, tinted to match one of the wood species. I wanted the model to have a 'glossy, decorative souvenir' appearance. Unfortunately, I can't recall the brand. I was pleased with the result at the time. However, if I were to do it now, I would opt to simply saturate the deck with oil, possibly adding some oil paint. This approach wouldn't produce a 'souvenir' gloss, but it would make the deck look natural :)
First time viewer here. I'd say use your own voice most of the time; it is warmer and more natural.
thank you 🙏
Human voice !
