🌊In this video series, I am constructing a model of the Santa Maria sailboat - the largest ship from Christopher Columbus's 1492 expedition. The model is based on a 1/65 scale kit from Amati.
As Amati ship model kits are often simplified for easier assembly, I am making significant modifications and corrections to certain elements.
To gain a better understanding of how to revamp these construction elements of the boat model, I am utilizing various resources, such as ship modeling materials, online information about 15th-16th century sailboats, and Xavier Pastor's book "The Ships of Christopher Columbus. Santa Maria, Niña, Pinta" from the Anatomy of the Ship collection, etc.
However, due to the limited evidence available regarding the appearance of Columbus's ships, I am allowing myself some creative freedom when building this sailboat model.

this is a thin veneer. I think cherry wood.
I like the color. but the fibers are too large for this scale.
      That's why I hide them :)
