🌊Today we will be revamping and assembling the skeleton of the model ship's hull. The design problem with the Amati kit is that the plywood keel edge would be visible in the finished model. I believe this needs to be corrected.
So, let’s fix this and add some more details to ease subsequent planking and electric wiring (I plan the model to be highlighted from the inside).
    -------------------------------------
Other videos from the Santa Maria series:
    • Columbus Santa Maria X...
    -------------------------------------
In this series of videos, I am building a model of the Santa Maria sailboat - the largest ship from Christopher Columbus's 1492 expedition. The model is based on a kit from Amati on a 1/65 scale.
Since Amati ship model kit designs are often simplified for easier assembly, there are some elements that I will significantly modify or correct.
I will use CNC mill to make some details.
To get a better idea of what and how to revamp elements of construction, I use available materials on ship modeling, open information about sailboats of the 15th-16th centuries from the Internet, as well as the book "The Ships of Christopher Columbus. Santa Maria, Niña, Pinta" by Xavier Pastor from the Anatomy of the Ship collection.
But since there is very little evidence of how the ships of Columbus looked like, I will allow myself some fantasy, when building this model of a sailboat.

Great one! Love the smoothness of it! Actually the work you're doing while crafting these ships is amazing. And the fact that you literally upgrade the stock instructions is insane! The musical accompaniment also fits great! By the way I know the guy who can make some guitar sound for your videos...

Some good ideas that simplify the building of the ship's hull, improving the original kit. Great set of skills, namelly the Autocad's - have you considered some videos regarding the use of CAD in ship's building?
    Great job!!

Thank you for good words and an idea. Probably I will do it sometime. However there is nothing special in using CAD for shipmodelling. Principles and tools are absolutely the same. Only the scale may differ. What is mire important- how you going to machine the designed part. And this is where g-code for particular CNC comes. With printers, though, it’s a bit more simple.

@@shipmodelideas I'm not a CAD's expert. I only use it for 2D. Unfortunatly, CAD 3D is, to me, a black area, so to speak. So I welcome your eventual efford to do a video on that! ;o)

How much is the laser cutter?

I don’t have one. But there is a wide choice now. I haven't purchased a laser cutter yet because my workshop lacks a fume hood so far. And it is not sufficient just to open a window.

is there anyway to get that blueprint. I also wants to do that with you following your steo by step guide. its for my room

Well, I do it based on Amati kit with certain changes. The changes are not based on any particular blueprint or systematic set of blueprints. In this case I rater develop details on the go. I use the book of Xavier Pastor for some references. There are some useful sketches and drawings there.
