When possible, I prefer to use wooden materials for wooden details rather than, for example, metal. Additionally, I was impressed by X. Pastor's reconstruction of the Breechloading Lombard Cannons, which he proposed in his book. As a result, I decided to replace the kit's cannon carriage with my own design, inspired by Pastor's book and constructed using the materials and parts available to me. It is possible that I will make further improvements to my reconstruction in the future, perhaps even revamping the barrel. However, for now, I have completed a quick and relatively simple upgrade of the carriage.
    Enjoy!

    -------------------------------------
🌊In this video series, I am constructing a model of the Santa Maria sailboat - the largest ship from Christopher Columbus's 1492 expedition. The model is based on a 1/65 scale kit from Amati.
As Amati ship model kits are often simplified for easier assembly, I am making significant modifications and corrections to certain elements.
To gain a better understanding of how to revamp these construction elements, I am utilizing various resources, such as ship modeling materials, online information about 15th-16th century sailboats, and Xavier Pastor's book "The Ships of Christopher Columbus. Santa Maria, Niña, Pinta" from the Anatomy of the Ship collection, etc.
However, due to the limited evidence available regarding the appearance of Columbus's ships, I am allowing myself some creative freedom when building this sailboat model.

Beautifully done !! The deeper black finish and the carriage work make it very "real" looking. Often, cast pieces are more toy like.
And get that Ultimation Slicer!! It's an amazing tool and a game changer. Worth saving for.
Thank you for sharing and be well.😊

Thank you. This is a relatively small ship. There are 6 cannons in the kit. But different versions of reconstructions propose 4 to 6.
