Since I plan to illuminate the interior and some sections will be visible from the outside, I decided to step up my game and "upgrade" the skeleton of the model.
In this video, I'll be demonstrating how I create a lower hold and plank the fore compartment, which will give the model a more authentic look and feel. By doing this before the general planking of the hull, we'll have a better foundation for the rest of the project.

In this video series, I am constructing a model of the Santa Maria sailboat, which was the largest ship from Christopher Columbus's 1492 expedition. The model is based on a 1/65 scale kit from Amati.
As Amati ship model kits are often simplified for easier assembly, I will significantly modify or correct certain elements.
To gain a better understanding of how to revamp these construction elements, I am using available materials on ship modeling, researching information about 15th-16th century sailboats from the internet, and referring to Xavier Pastor's book "The Ships of Christopher Columbus. Santa Maria, Niña, Pinta" from the Anatomy of the Ship collection.
However, since there is very little evidence of what Columbus's ships actually looked like, I will allow myself some creative freedom when building this sailboat model.
