⛵Today I will show you how to lay deck planks using a simple yet effective method. Rather than cutting planks into separate segments, I will lay solid planks along the entire deck. This method works well for partially visible decks on finished models. After laying the planks, I will simulate the joints to give it a realistic look. Stay tuned and let's get started with deck planking!

    -------------------------------------
🌊In this video series, I am constructing a model of the Santa Maria sailboat - the largest ship from Christopher Columbus's 1492 expedition. The model is based on a 1/65 scale kit from Amati.
As Amati ship model kits are often simplified for easier assembly, I am making significant modifications and corrections to certain elements.
To gain a better understanding of how to revamp these construction elements, I am utilizing various resources, such as ship modeling materials, online information about 15th-16th century sailboats, and Xavier Pastor's book "The Ships of Christopher Columbus. Santa Maria, Niña, Pinta" from the Anatomy of the Ship collection, etc.
However, due to the limited evidence available regarding the appearance of Columbus's ships, I am allowing myself some creative freedom when building this sailboat model.

Very interesting technique, congratulations. have you diluted the oil paint with water or another solvent?
    Thank you

Oil paints are not soluble in water. There are special solvents available for them, which are usually sold together with the paints at painters stores.

@@shipmodelideas thank you for the advice. I've never try the oil paint but the result is great.

Water affects the wood. When wood is wet it expands, when it dries it shrinks again. The oil doesn't affect the wood in such a way. That is why I like to work on wood with olive paints rather than water ones.
