    I really enjoy the quality of this kit! Although this kit has the largest number of parts I have ever built...
    Building a ship model of the frigate USS CONFEDERACY (1778) in scale 1:64. Kit manufactured by the American company ModelshipWays. Here I share my personal impressions of the kit and results.
    Scale: 1:64 (889mm/35") or 3/16''=1'
    Single plank-on-bulkhead hull

    As an avid ship, aircraft, truck and auto model builder, I realized after 50 years and 100s of kits,plastic, resin and wood that no one ever really appreciates the work we put into our builds.
    Countless hours, big money invested into the kits, not to mention the tools and research material, I've found that the most one can hope for from most is, " wow. That's pretty nice. Bet that took a while "
    And that's about all we get. Most people don't have a clue to what's involved.
    For me, it's not just the joy of the build, it's more. It goes way beyond the simple sense of accomplishment too. For me anyway.
    Oh, your soundtrack is pretty awesome. I usually go for classical recorded at 432hz. It helps me to relax and also to focus.
    You have real talent.

      I usually tell people that it takes the same amount of time as building a real ship, only more difficult because it's on a scale and it usually makes people think about the complexity and the time involved...

    I was wondering as a complete novice… could you break down in your voice and description on what you had as a beginner? Your videos are great but I don’t get much information and maybe I am not your audience with your videos. Working on my first model the Bluenose2. I would like to hear your voice and explanations as you go. Maybe you’re not set up for that but your current videos have me in awe!!! I really don’t learn much but that I suck at building wooden ship models. I realize your resource is not for people like me… the raw beginner. I am smart enough to know you are great at this craft… but I don’t learn anything from them but how great you are, respectfully Rick.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 года назад

      Yes, you are right, this model is suitable for already professionals in this hobby. That's why I build 5 models at the same time with different skill levels. I can recommend playlists: HMS PEGASUS, Pinky schooner or Pinta playlists for you. There I build mostly from materials from kits and using hand tools...
      P.S. I prefer subtitles because they can be translated into any language by viewers from other countries. Second, I speed up the video by 2-4 times, which makes it impossible to record the voice. Recording the voice while editing the video will add at least 1 more day of work to what I already spend 2-3 days per video...

    Как всегда замечательно. Но остался один пробел: где вертикальная часть киля врезается в палубный настил, края палубы остались незачернёные. Для их чернения, в таких случаях, использую Контур "Marabu Contours & Effects", цвет: Black 073

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 года назад

      Cпасибо!
      В етом нет необходимости, там четкий контур будет при приклеивании форштевня на ПВА подкрашеного черной краской.
      А маркери не всегда есть хорошей идеей, так как может поплить при использовании спиртових тонировок. А я буду использовать как раз шеллак, по етому никаких красок не устойчивых к спирту...

    Well done. Your should invest in an ultra high speed carver. Those uses burrs with the same shaft dimension (ø1.6mm) as denstist use, and spinn about 300-400 thousand rpm. They can drill/grind almost anything, and you get super accurate, due to the high rpm. Not cheap equipment, but well worth, due to it's capability.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 года назад

      Thank you very much!
      I have never tried such equipment. On the contrary, I always try to drill at the minimum speed so as not to burn the wood and to drill accurately without a stand. I use jewelers drills, they are so strong that I use them for milling too...

    • @sidekickbob7227
      @sidekickbob7227 2 года назад

      @@OlhaBatchvarov They doesn't tend to burn, unless the wooden material is very hard, and the burr worn. Obviously you manage well without, but at operations like the slotting of the small pieces, could be finished in one operation. The accuracy is great, and you will find it to cut way smoother than the electric 3mm shaft burr.

    Another fascinating episode! I've just got to ask: what's wrong with basswood? You put so much working into replacing it I wonder sometimes if you just like to use tools. And it's a late, but in #05, why did you fill in the spaces between bulkheads? It was a huge effort and will make the hull so heavy, was it just to make nailing the planks easier?

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад +1

      Basswood is a cheap wood to make the kit cheaper - it is easy to damage and hairiness appears under any oil or shellac. My eyes will roll out if I start impregnating all the details with СA glue to give this wood strength and a decent look - that's why it's easier to replace it with noble boxwood or traditional pear.
      Spaces must be filled on such a large model. This is not only to increase the area of gluing the planks, but the main reason is to prevent such a long hull from twisting over time due to changes in humidity. You can also bend the planks with a soldering iron directly on the hull or hammer the clamps where it is needed...
      The filled spaces will result in a perfectly even planking.
      Over time, you will regret that you spent several years on the construction and did not spend an additional month on the spaces. After 2-3 years, the frames will become noticeable, and there will be dents in the planks between them. This is not visible if you look at the model from a distance of 5 m, but if you get closer, it starts to catch your eye...

  • @eagle1de227
    @eagle1de227 2 года назад +1

    Excellent work as ever!
    The only thing i don't understand is why you recreated the pieces already included in the kit (from 3:00 to 10:30 ) ?

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 года назад

      Because all the parts in the kit are made of basswood, and I will change the planking to boxwood. Like on the lower counter and on the bulkhead on the beakhead...

    What are you brushing on then later scraping off ? Is it linseed oil ?

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад

      I don't use oil until I've glued all the pieces on the deck because otherwise you just can't do it to an oiled surface.
      This is CA glue, which I use to imitate nails - you can read the description of the technology in the subtitles!

    Добрый день, Ольга, вы делаете имитацию нагиливания без фактических нагелей? Сверлите отверстия и заливаете клеем? Верно? (Заранее благодарен за ответ)

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад

      Да - верно! Так я могу сделать масштабного размера нагели диаметром 0,35 мм... Ето описано в видео - ви можете вибрать язьІк перевода в меню авто-субтитров.

    Пересматриваю и не понимаю за счёт чего темнеют отверстия имитации нагелей после нанесения цианового клея. Клей как бы прозрачный.

      Да! Но если через клей не просвечивается свет - он будет черний! Чистой водьІ илюзия)))
