    "Planking the DECK of the HMS PRGASUS"
    Building a ship model of the HMS PEGASUS (1776) in scale 1:64. Kit manufactured by the Italian company Amati. Here I share my personal impressions of the kit and results.
    HMS Pegasus was the sixth of 25 Swan Class ship rigged sloops ordered by the Admiralty between 1766 and 1780. Built at Sheerness Dockyard, Pegasus was launched on December 27th, 1776.

    Thank you Ohla!! I've been building plastic models for almost 50 years & watching your videos has convinced me to try a wooden model ship kit. I chose the 1/55 Arrow American Gunboat of 1814 by Amati primarily because the planking does not look too difficult for a first build. I've also purchased the Gunboat Philadelphia 1776 kit by Model Expo for the same reason. Your tips, techniques & 'custom' made tool will be an immense help.

    Оля, ты большой молодЕц. Многие твоей продуктивности могут только позавидовать. Про качество видео даже не говорю. Но этот способ нагелевания имеет недостатки: большой расход зубочисток, но и самое главное не стабильный диаметр нагелей в результате. Можно конечно набить руку и визуально будет почти не заметна разница. Есть и другой способ изготовления нагелей (с помощью фильеры). Он есть в видео Андрея Кудина. Уж кому, а тебе освоить этот метод точно по плечу. А результат уже на совсем другом уровне. Удачи в постройке.

    Me dejas sin palabras, increíble tu trabajo. Te puedo preguntar si me recomiendas utilizar el aerógrafo para pintar los modelos o es suficiente utilizar pinceles?. Gracias por compartir tus maravillosos videos. 🇲🇽

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад

      Si tienes un aerógrafo, ¡genial! Pero si recién está comenzando a comprar herramientas, entonces un aerógrafo no es una prioridad. Necesitará un soldador con más frecuencia que pintar. Algunos modelos están completamente sin pintar o, como máximo, los barkhouts están pintados. Pero se aplica exclusivamente a los barcos de madera, no a los nuevos con motores...

    Olha, I see that you are using "real" treenails (toothpicks) as opposed to the simple plain points and CA that you used on the Ragusian Carrack. Can I assume that this is because of the larger scale of the Pegasus? Or perhaps you are just upping your game on your models ovrall? Thanks as always, Angus.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад

      I used the same toothpicks on the deck on the Ragusian carrack))) It's just that I use different techniques for different models. It is logical that treenails should be wooden. But metal nails look very realistic with CA glue. I also use CA for small scale…

  • @CAPNMAC82
    @CAPNMAC82 Год назад +1

    You can use a metal drill gauge as a drawplate to skinny the stub toohpicks, too.
    Another spiffy thing is to see if a person's vet with give up any 18 to 20 gauge trocar needles (±0.7-.0.8mm ID, near enough to 1.5" at 1/48) which, with some tip profiling, will make a circular cut in one go.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад

      Unfortunately, not all beginners have enough patience even for the simplest treenaling. Therefore, I am silent about the making real treenails. I prefer the drowplate option for making wooden dowel roods, although some of my trainers prefer to drill it with the needle...

  • @bozev21
    @bozev21 Год назад +1

    Amazing job as always! The different length of the toothpicks is a very nice trick, that for sure I will use on my next model.

  • @andreamanera6784
    @andreamanera6784 Год назад +2

    Hi, wasn't it worth and quicker to cut the planks the correct scale length before glueing to the deck, instead of having to divide the planks when they are already installed? As you mentioned the length should be more or less fixed, because the under-deck beams can be expected to be evenly spaced ...

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад +2

      It was possible to do this on this model. But when you need to bend the plank, then the smooth line of the planks is easier to get simulating joints...
      P.S. The distance between the beams can be different...
      But this is also a matter of taste of the modeler...

    • @andreamanera6784
      @andreamanera6784 Год назад

      @@OlhaBatchvarov a possible method, that I've used on my Colibrì, is to bend the full length edgewarth with steam and heat, taking advantage of their length to make the job easier, and then lay them on the deck, mark the position of the cuts (which can also account for unevenly spaced beams), cut the planks to correct length and glue. The scraper will take care of the imperfections. BTW I used the same type of scraper, made with a hobby knife blade as you did, and also toothpicks for treenails👍🏻
      Fantastic job indeed!

    8:51 Hi, loving your videos. What glue are you using for the toothpicks? I looked through your subtitles but did not see it? It looks too clear to be wood glue, and seems to dry too slowly to be CA glue?

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад +2

      This is CA glue! The thinnest that soaks well into toothpicks and makes them dark in color...

  • @simotessa
    @simotessa Год назад +2

    Hi Olha, don't you think that the treenails could be a out of scale with a size lkie that? Thanks

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад +1

      In general, trinails should be 29 mm (1 1/8 inches) in diameter. At 1:64 scale, this is around 0,45 mm (0,018 in). I drilled 0,35mm holes + when you hammer the toothpick the diameter increases by about 0,1 mm. Visually, on the contrary, it seems to me that they are smaller than necessary...
