My name is Chris and my channel is called Cornish Chris the Fish. I am a Cornishman venturing out beyond the Duchy to experience life on the road full time touring in my Caravan Dalleth Arta, fly fishing and vlogging my adventure. I am a novice Salmon Fisherman so join me as I experience the topsy turvey world of Fly Fishing for Salmon. I am charting my fishing adventures and will profile each fishery that I attend. I may even catch a few fish 😀

I recently joined the Perth & District Angling Association for access to various beats on the river Tay. I wasn't sure if I could join because usually it is for local residents only, however once I learned that it is open to all I signed up straight away. At the time of recording this video I am fishing on the River Tay and as I like to use my channel to help others I thought it would be great ...

My first day of fishing with the Perth and District Angling Association (www.pdaa.co.uk) and you find me at Pitnacree & Balnabeggan. An awesome 2 mile stretch of fishing on the Upper Tay near Aberfeldy. I met Ian, an amazing ghillie who showed me the entire beat from top to tail and was a most generous host. Keep plugging away Chris, it will come all the time and effort deserves a fish 🐟
I find these videos relaxing Have you considered having a go on the test Avon or itchen for a chalk stream salmon test is a bit like sight fishing the Avon more like Scottish fishing
Actually I used to be member of the Cotswolds Angling Association when i lived near Oxford so fished alot of the chalk streams including the Test a few times. I have a few videos from the Test on my channel. Not really in that area as much anymore 😕 glad you enjoy my videos. Many thanks Chris
Great video, as always. Looks like a nice place to fish 👍👊
Thanks 👍
A lovely way to spend a summers evening Chris. That looked blissful 😍🎣👍
Absolutely
I see you were on the Stinchar with Colin the other day, really nice river, needs water.though. we should fish together at some point. Kindred spirits 👍
@@CornishChrisTheFish yeah it was a shame. Looked like the other Ayrshire rivers had a bit of lift but not the Stinchar. Nevertheless it was a lovely evening and nice to meet Colin. Absolutely that would be awesome. It would be lovely to meet you and Theo too 🎣🤝
Does anyone catch fish in rivers anymore, No fish in Irish rivers worth talking about, only people with nets catch fish.
Doesn't feel like, my season has bee awful so far 😕
Great video Chris. Some nice water to fish again. Looking forward to our trip later in the year. Tight lines for the next one.
Thanks Toby, my next trip is with you on Findhorn so fingers crossed for it. I will message you later 👍
Suggest that you watch the Scottish Outdoor life latest video as he is fishing the Tay and giving some very good advice how to fly fish it, also how to fish the spinner on it. P.S. he catches fish on a regular basis.
Thanks Rodney 😊
Just into July and Scottish outdoor life reporting and seeing many salmon coming into the Tay system, so maybe things are looking up!!Cheers Peter and tight lines soon.
Amazing what can happen when you live 5 minutes from the Tay against living 650 miles away
@@CornishChrisTheFish just trying to pass some interesting information on Chris.
Thanks Peter 😊 I appreciate your support 🙏
Great video once more and indeed a lovely beat with great looking runs and pools. Not sure if you fished the Sunray all day or not but as mentioned below it needs to be cast almost square across and swung across the pool using downstream mend if need be to create a belly in the line, or simply stripped fast just fyi. I usually try the sunray very early in the morning or in the late evening when sun is low. Thanks for taking the time to produce & share. Tight lines.
Thanks for the advice 👍
Chris, it's called fishing not catching for a reason, don't worry about the lack of fish. I fished the Forres Association beat from 1980 until 2002, when I emigrated to Australia. I know how hard it is to get a springer from that beat. I visited there last year and was lucky enough to get a grilse on my first day out, from the run you fished at the Cloddy pool. All my fishing is now done in Tasmania for wild browns and stocked rainbows. If you ever get "Down under" I can take you out in my boat, if you bring some Tiddly Oggies with you. Lovely video, thank you.
Oh cheers Phil thanks for supporting my channel and commenting on my video. Doubt I will be back down under again, was there in the 90s, wonderful country 👍
Great looking water and really enjoyable video, thanks for producing & sharing! Nothing wrong with a wee nap beneath a tree lol. Colin is a v good angler!
You got that right! It's always a good day out with Colin
Great video account as always, very enjoyable and thanks for producing & sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always a good watch Chris, It's a numbers game so it can't be long now until the next fish comes along. Keep up the good work!
Fingers crossed!
You've nailed that single spey - proper job ;) one small tip for you, if you're extending your line for the next cast do it on the dangle or the retrieve, not after your cast, you lose tension on the line, the fly drops and doesnt fish the cast effectively until it tightens up again, hope that makes sense 👍 tight lines. Ps ignore the Wallies, idiots and keyboard warriors
Cheers Steve 🍻
Hi Chris Really enjoy your videos. Just an observation about Theo being free to wander whilst you are fishing. In Spring and early Summer there are many ground nesting birds around riverbanks siiting on eggs or young so I always tether my dog at this time of year. She doesn't like it but I consider it very necessary.to protect vunerable wildlife.
Good for you 👍
Great video Chris. Nice when you have the beat to yourself sometimes isn't it. Tight lines for the next trip.
Cheers Toby 🍻
Great video again 👍👊
Cheers 🧲 😁
Looked to me as though you were getting out a pretty fair line. Having been brought up in Wales I really struggle for confidence on rivers where there is no pool/stream sequence. If you fancy a really nice day out on a tributary of a tributary of the Tay, I found one this month !
Intriguing, where? 😁
@@CornishChrisTheFish Ericht; I'm a bit reluctant to give full details online but if of interest I could give details.
Hi Chris, nice video again, shame about the fish , fingers crossed for the next time 🎣
Cheers Craig 🍻
The association water featured, which is over fished and not very good, I spent years salmon fishing and wasted a lot of time there, if you want to catch a salmon on a fly there are better places even though they may be from rivers not as strongly associated with fly fishing for salmon as the Spey is, I would try the Tay for starters. Good luck.
Thanks for watching, you should check out my current Tay videos
to hear you are enjoying making the video as you sure are not having any enjoyment from catching a fish. Lots of gish are caught on the spinner on the Tay in the spring, it might be worth giving it a try. Either that or change your fly su.pplier.
Or alternatively the fish stocks are really low and everyone whom i know that fish the Tay, have all said what a disappointing season it has been so far.
Great video do you ever fish the margins infront of you before hitting right across the river ive picked up quite a few salmon over the years doing that
Yes I do just it doesn't always come out in the video, thanks for the advice 👍
Awesome video again, what a beautiful place to fish on 👍👊
Thanks 👍
Looks like another great bit of water to fish. Need to have a go on the Tay again I've only fished it once before.
Go for it Toby 👍
At least we had a laugh. Good wee vid. I'm on the Awe right now. Salmon jumping over flyline. I wonder when it will happen this year😂😂😂
Aye, it was a fun day, glad we could meet up again. Tight lines
Another great video Chris and lovely looking location.
Glad you enjoyed it Craig 👍
Awesome video again, nice place to fish on 👍👊
Thanks 👍
Nice video and lovely looking bit of water Chris. Fingers crossed you’ll get a tug on the line soon 🤞
Thanks 👍
Hi Chris, just a wee note. If fishing a long Sunray, the idea is to fish it fast so basically a square cast across the river and strip it back quickly. Thanks for another nice video.
Chris sorry to say again when fishing sunray shadow down stream mend straight away or fast strip buddy I would have thought matt trigg would have told you how to fish his flys 😂 he buys you a new rod to fish flys you don't know how to fish . Feel for you buddy . 3 flies is all you need Willie gunn , stoats tail , garry dog in different sizes . Honestly Chris ill tie you some so you atleast get a fish after all the money you've spend bud I feel for you 😢
Oops, didn't mean to add a thumbs up to my own comment!
@@nwest-trailzscotland5699 get a grip you will do no such thing
Thanks for the advice 👍
Yeah he did but i forgot
Think thats the Linn pool your pointing to.
Ah brilliant thanks
The rule is step and cast, especially if you are fishing a pool with others wanting to fish. If you are on your own, then take as long as you like. You must be getting very frustrated as it is now june and you have not yet connected with a fish.
Don't ask me for the lottery numbers 😒 🤣 I'm not lucky enough
I’ve been out over 50 times this year and Hooked one fish which unfortunately came off as I slid it into the grass on the findhorn
Rodney, I haven't seen your exploits, channel or fish yet, where will I find them???
@stevemad4salmon unfortunately I no longer live close to the Border Esk and am not good on modern technology so only manage to fish for 3 weeks each season. I gave to fish tobthe conditions which can either be a drought as in 2022 or low water conditions. I am still a learner as I have only been salmon fishing for 50 years.
I wish i never blocked that twat who commented that we youtube anglers need to get some lessons - i reckon we could have all given him a proper response 👍
Ian is wonderful,,Cornelius however is a tit
Hmmm i think I know who you mean 🤣👍
@@CornishChrisTheFish oh you will know him,,I’ve not haven’t seen him you will have heard him from across the river 😂,,head to toe in guideline
Ah okay that guy, didn't really have much involvement with him on the day tbh so can't really comment 🤔
@@CornishChrisTheFish yeah that guy ,you know who I mean then ,imagine being on the same bank and listening to that all day
We're thrilled to be a small part of a much larger fishing community.
Chris it would help if you told us what your target fish was at the outset. Only when I saw the fly did I work out Salmon was the target. You did mention that later on - but later on in the video.
I would have thought that the title of the video was a dead giveaway 🙄
All good an great Chris 👍 brilliant videos but it's all about what your selling an am afraid the product in not thr

Well worth it 👌
Some lovely footage there Chris, quality is ace , what drone are you using?

Good to hear Dalguise is on the ticket, I've enjoyed a few days fishing there several years ago. Not sure if Kercock is available, fantastic fishing there.

Nice one Chris
Nice video Chris
Lovely stuff Chris, I think you’ve inspired me to get a drone now. The footage is incredible. Was it a steep learning curve to get to grips with operating it?
Not at all. I chose the DJI mini 3 pro for its auto track and preset movements. Recommend getting the flymore kit with the extra batteries as they only last 20 mins max. The auto track feature is brilliant as is the mastershot functions. I am still not really all the features in full but I am really pleased with the results 😄
@@CornishChrisTheFish absolutely the footage is amazing 😊
Great persepective of the rivers. Can see where the deeper water is and shallower bits too.
Fantastic Chris, a great show !!!
Many thanks!
