- n this video I meet Murdo Crosbie from the River Cree Hatchery & Habitat Trust ( / rchht . Join me as I learn about the role of the hatchery and how they are hoping to secure the future of Salmon Fishing for Future Generations.
Hi, my name is Chris and my channel is called Cornish Chris the Fish. I am a Cornishman venturing out beyond the Duchy (of Cornwall) to experience life on the road full time touring in my Caravan Dalleth Arta, fly fishing for Salmon and vlogging my adventures. I am charting my salmon fly fishing adventures and will profile each fishery that I attend. I may even catch a few fish 😀. All views are my own good or bad.

I had a tour of this hatchery a few years ago. It’s so important that we support people like Murdo and his team to help the UK salmon population.
Great video chris.
Glad you liked it 👍
VERY COOL, CORNISH CHRIS!!!
Wow thanks Joey. 👍
Great overview , many thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Nearly bought a farm on the Cree.....beautiful place
Very interesting video Chris. Think every river is in needs of a hatchery now.
I think so too!
Enjoyed that ,thanks corniche Chris
Coastal road?

😂
Really informative watch, great work they are doing down there, hard work hopefully paying off. I know a little bit about the work Bob Kindness has done up here in the west, I think it’s a very difficult thing to set up but we are now in such precarious position it’s hard to look past the need for stocking via a hatchery where it would suit that system. One other worry is the rod catch determining how many fish you could even take even if you could set up a hatchery. Some rivers returns like here on Skye, are so low I doubt you could even take enough fish to start a hatchery, even if it would be right for the river?
Thanks I was very surprised about the catch return problem too. Can't help but feel this is an area often overlooked.
A hatchery can certainly help a river that is in such a poor state that the natural habitat has been degraded to the extent that it does not support sufficient natural spawning. But on a river with a heathy habitat, the wild stocks are more than capable of providing the maximum density of fry and parr that the river can support. Habitat and food ultimately dictate the number of fish that survive. On a heathy river, chucking in loads of hatchery reared fish will not increase stocks. It can actually have a negative impact. In that situation there will just be increased competition for the available food and space. The only thing to increase then would be predators, again, whose numbers are dictated by availability of food.
Create the right habitat with good clean water and the fish will do the rest.
Man always thinks they can do a better job than nature. That is rarely the case.
Thanks for sharing your opinion 👍
We badly need hatchery’s on every river or there won’t be any salmon left within 10 years
I couldn't agree more 👍
@@CornishChrisTheFishsadly the fruads that masquerade as rivers trusts don’t have the best interest of salmon at heart,,,if the rivers were full of fish they wouldn’t have a cushy job
I can't speak for the other river trusts or the Cree one in fact but I didn't think that Murdo had a particularly "cushy job" in the barn every day@@Gamefishing111
Great work river Cree 👏. Have you fished river Cree Chis ?
