- In this film I head back to where the salmon fishing obsession began for at the Dalswinton Estate on the River Nith. I also met one of my RUclips Heroes in Moffat @andrewjditton his videos about full time touring and living simply changed my life and I will produce a video soon about my experiences "full time touring".
Hi, my name is Chris and my channel is called Cornish Chris the Fish. I am a Cornishman venturing out beyond the Duchy (of Cornwall) to experience life on the road full time touring in my Caravan Dalleth Arta, fly fishing for Salmon and vlogging my adventures. I am charting my salmon fly fishing adventures and will profile each fishery that I attend. I may even catch a few fish 😀. All views are my own good or bad.

Many happy memories there. Fished at Dalswinton for over 20 years. Best in the Bridge Pool, hooking 9 salmon and landing 7 in front of Andy Ross, the keeper and Doug Smith who was running the beat for Peter Landale. All on an Apache Shrimp size 10. Unforgettable two hours.

Happy memories ! A group of us stayed several times at the Auldgirth Inn (then owned by the estate I think) and had good fishing-indeed I remember having one 'first chuck' when advised by Andy (Not a chap I would care to argue with !); sadly one of the group let the side down by 'borrowing' some vintage reels which were apparently on a roof beam near the bar. These were recovered some years later from his place 'overseas' and one of us returned them but the spell was broken. Now I gather one of Scotland's finest restaurants.
Clearly this is a place with fond memories for many people. Thanks for supporting my channel and interacting😀👍

Hi Chris, thanks for the vlog. It's probably 30yrs since I fished on The Nith. I used to go up in the summer and fish for sea trout with a single handed rod. I fished a bit further up at Drumlanrig and was usually successful over a few days. Lost a few very large fish in the twilight hours, which I suppose could have been sea trout or salmon. Never landed anything much above 3lbs but there were always fish there and brownies also caught during the day whilst trying the likely places for flow and depth, ready for the the evening adventure. Really nice part of the world and I should plan a return. Thanks for the inspiration. David.

Great video again chris its a shame about the nith its runs of salmon have fallen away very badly fished it's neighbouring river the annan a lot years ago its a great river the cree just along from nith gets better runs of fish now
Quite agree. My friend Russ caught a 12lber of the cree in June 👍
@@CornishChrisTheFish Cree is struggling this year normal august 36 /44 fish off this august there’s 6 off 50 for the year

Good evening Chris as you approach the end of your 2nd season how have you done this year with salmon catches?
Very badly, I caught 2 salmon in total this year, plus tons of trout by accident. I haven't finished yet though. I think it's been a pretty poor season for most fishers, how have faired in your season?
