    Great video and some lovely "fishy" water there on the Dee. I've had a desperate season so far here in Newfoundland. Two hooked and lost on the dry fly and three tugs on the wet for a total of over 60 hours fishing. Still have the same anticipation with the thousandth cast as I had with the first so not giving up any time soon. Normally would have landed nearer a dozen by now but this season has really been a bust for many of us. Please keep sharing your experiences. Cheers, Steve

      Thanks very much Stevie! Sounds like you might be having similar luck to me over in Canada. Lets hope things pick up soon. Thanks very much for watching, there will definitely be more videos before the season is over here in Scotland. Take care :)

    Great watch! Thank you for showing both the line setup and how you sort the different flies. I'm just going into two handed setups so it was nice to see! Quite the difference going from overhead casting and into spey technique..

      Thanks for watching Bjørn! I’ve only been fishing double handed with Spey casting for around a year and still very much a beginner. My casting isn’t great but as long as you can get a line out that’s all that’s needed 😊

      Must be one of those years Scott! Managed to snap my switch rod down at Mauchline last week to add to insult 😂

    I have exact same rod and reel, although fishing MacKensive shooting head and I feel the reel struggles with a shooting head so I'm switching reels next season.

      Thanks very much for watching Stevie. I know what you mean I’m finding that aswell now. It’s my 40th in December so I’m thinking of treating myself to a Danielsson reel 😊

    Hi Robert, I know how you feel all too well, it's been a terrible season for me as well. It would have been an amazing season if my target species was brown trout as I caught quite a few on my recent adventure. Lovely video, really engaging - Chris

      Thanks very much for watching Chris! I keep telling myself there’s still time left, the weeks are flying by though. Hopefully we both get a bit of success before the season is out. The drone footage is looking fantastic 👌 Take care and looking forward to your next adventure. - Robert

      Brilliant Fraser. I’m booked for the Dee in July and September.
      I’m thinking if the Ayr drops over the course of tomorrow I’ll be down there on Sat giving it a shot for the salmon 🎣👍

      @@robertdoesfishing I was on they Ayr on monday (stupid archaic sunday rule) briefly truing a 11ft switch with a 550g skagit at barskimming Bridge 1 pool above, was casting a dream. Water a touch silted still. Good to be there though. I'm gonna try booking the dee in September. I'll be fishing the cowie in stonehaven too. Wee but great river. Need to try the north esk too.

    Subscribed mate , Do you not put a 5ft polyleader on the versitip ? I have the same line but the longer one for my 15" rod and was told it casts better with a 10ft polyleader on the versi tip ?? Ive not tried it without the polyleader.
    I have same rod and i use a Gealforce equilizer line and it flys out .

    • @robertdoesfishing
      @robertdoesfishing  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks very much pal. That’s interesting I’ve never tried that before. Will need to try it and see how that goes thanks for the suggestion.
      I wanted a Gaelforce switch line for my switch rod but between them and the Barrio lines they were like hens teeth.

      @@robertdoesfishing What most owners of the SSVT do is to utilise a 5ft ish poly( Airflo or Rio ) of an equal or faster sink rate to the tip in use at the time. This puts back what Rio lopped off and the line behaves and cast's much better. Long leaders work better on SSVT'S because there's quite a bit of momentum generated when you Spey cast these lines as they're short and quite heavy for the rating ( much the same as Airflo's Rage! ) and they take quite a bit of stopping and holding to get an effective anchor.

    Hi robert what part of the irvine do you fish you should try out the garnock for salmon and sea trout love watching the videos m8 been told wen fishing the dee in the summer fish the smallest flies you can get my m8 fishes small single stoat tails there more like wee wet flys he does well he lost a 20+ fish in the summer

    • @robertdoesfishing

      Hi Pal, I’m a member of Kilmarnock AC so that’s the stretch I fish, normally around Gatehead area and further up. Garnocks a wee bit out the road for me but I know it does quite well, seen a few lads on RUclips that fish it and it looks like a great water.
      Aye I’d read that about the Dee as-well, had a box of wee 16/18 doubles on me but there was plenty water that weekend I was there to be fishing slightly bigger. Mind you that’s maybe where I was going wrong, ye never know 😂

      Sadly not David, my return trip at the beginning of September got cancelled due to the freakish heatwave we had then. There was no water and it was too warm 😫

    Hi. at first sorry for my bad english. I am from Poland and next year I will be visiting your beautiful country and I would like to fish on the River Dee. Where can I buy a license and what kind of fish can I expect? Thank you for your answer

    • @robertdoesfishing
      @robertdoesfishing  Год назад +2

      Hello! Your best resource would be to look at available fishing on the river Dee at www.Fishpal.com . There you can view river/beat information as well as book days on the river. You can expect to catch mostly trout and salmon. Hope this helps!
