Closing Day at Lower Bolfracks on the River Tay | October 2023 | Salmon Fishing
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 ноя 2023
- After about 10 days of not being able to fish following some very heavy rain which caused the River Tay to be running extremely high (over 6ft in places), I popped along to the closing day on the Lower Bolfracks beat meeting up with old friends Jim (the owner), James (The Ghillie) and making new friends Craig, Rory and Gordon (who watch my films).
With the river still running high it was a full day on the Spinning Rod. With 12 people on the beat you might have expected more than 1 fish to be caught all day, but alas it wasn't my net that this 7lber found a temporary home.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed my day!
Ticket Price: £45
River Height: 4ft at Kenmore Gauge
Weather: Sunny but cold with a strong up-river wind
Hi, my name is Chris and my channel is called Cornish Chris the Fish. I am a Cornishman venturing out beyond the Duchy (of Cornwall) to experience life on the road full time touring in my Caravan Dalleth Arta, fly fishing for Salmon and vlogging my adventures. I am charting my salmon fly fishing adventures and will profile each fishery that I attend. I may even catch a few fish 😀. All views are my own good or bad.

I hope so too! 👍
Watching here my friend
Thanks for the support 👍
Pleasure meeting you that day Chris. Hopefully see you on the Bank in the future. Maybe even get a days fishing with you on the north esk next season if you'd like too 🎣
I would certainly be up for that!! If you Don't mind emailing me at CornishChrisTheFish@gmail.com we can exchange contact info and arrange something? Nice to meet you and thanks for the support 👍
Well done Chris, really enjoying your video's. I've not fully caught up on this seasons episodes, however i was wondering what happened to your airflo V3. I have the same reel in the 9/10 which is paired with my Greys GR70 13#8.
Hi Frank, thanks for supporting my videos. I am indifferent to the airflo reels, i don't regret buying them but now that I have fished with them I kind of wish I bought something with a better drag system, something that clicks (if you know what I mean). I have a Scientific Angler reel on long term loan from Russ, and it's brilliant. I would say that if I bought another reel, I would get something with more of a cage around the line. Almost every cast I am unhooking the line from the rod. Not sure if that makes alot of sense?
@CornishChrisTheFish I had seen an episode where you mention the borrowed SA reel. I'm just starting out on the double handed rods, and budget certainly played a part in my choice, although I'm sure I've got the full cage version of the V3. I've yet to test my equipment on the river yet, although i did manage a salmon on the Clyde a few weeks back, on my 4 weight rod and 4lb line, whilst grayling fishing, bit of a frightening event, glad to report the fish got landed and returned safely to chase the ladies
Wow I bet that was a shock. Well done 😀👍
Chris when your spinning a big water ,from my experience you should be casting slightly upstream.
Yes absolutely
Thanks for the advice. I very rarely use a spinning rod. 👍
Well done on the series; always great to be 'on the water' at home..! Doesn't look a beat for the 'less able' (That doesn't include me, so far, I'm glad to say); however very scenic. On a serious note I think it's a shame that so little consideration is given to decrepit long-term salmon anglers; my oldest and best mate can no longer manage to wade or fish a fly. He's well over 70. Every other sport seems to get huge grants to 'enable' the less able and encourage them but salmon angling simply says 'tough- you're past it'. Surely 'fly-only' beats could bend the rule sympathetically.
Anyway enjoy a rest in the close season and I've put a tiny bawbee in the kitty-don't spend it all at once ! Tom
Hey Tom thanks for the donation 😀. Once you are down the steps it's actually not too bad. The owner is investing alot of money into renovaring access with lots of duck boards and structures. Very impressed. But i get what you mean alot of places could be better. Thanks for the support 👍
