What a sweet running engine for its age, and a giant leap in technology and convenience of use at that time. This one resides in its original crate with a glass top on it as a table in my man cave.

This clean original got the usual fuel line and diaphragm replacement, carb rebuild, impeller replacement, gear case reseal, gear oil, coils, condensers and clean up. Someone had hand painted bright orange enamel paint all over the back of the power head and top of the exhaust housing. That took forever to carefully remove without damaging the original paint. All in all it was worth it. This is...

This was a real bizarre offering from Evinrude between 1948 and 1951. I feel it was a wry over engineered stepping stone to the 1952 and up Lightwin 3hp. I can’t think of anything that is interchangeable on the two different models other than spark plugs, and for good reason. This 3.3 has dual rubber impellers, a built in fuel level gauge on the tank, a closed deck block, a rotary valve passage...

having both 1998 johnson 9.9 and 15 hp engines i think cylinder porting varies between the two. the 9.9 handles a heavier load much better, runs smooth thru the mid range. the 15 on the otherhand likes to run top end but tends to stubble thru the no wake zones.

That's a sexy motor. My introduction to small outboards was when I was 5 years old, back in 1963. My father took over operation of a marina on a freshwater lake in NC. We rented fishing boats and motors. My first experience driving a boat was with a 3 hp Evinrude that looked very similar to this one. I'm not sure what model it was, but I used it throughout my entire childhood. I was introduced to many outboards over the years. I was excited every spring as the fishing season started. I couldn't wait to see who would show up with a new outboard and to check them out. I can remember when a 100hp to 150hp outboard was about the size of a 300hp nowadays.

I hear the fuel line liner disintegrates and plugs up the carb. I told him to make sure he's using non-ethanol high test gas, proper 50:1 mix + Stabil and swap to rubber fuel line and a new squeeze bulb. Cheaper than another carb rebuild.

These were also rarely in my uncles repair shop. On the lake like the other brands Mc made engines for a variety of companies with different names. One of my favorites was the flying Scott and this white Elgin Chrysler marine also made a variety of engines for different companies Montgomery’s wards sea king sears game fisher ththiervown model another last attempt force before merging that branch with Brunswick mercury. A lot of engines with different names were made by Scott Mcculloch under different brands. These were wonderful engines nothing they had o over mercury and omc they were lighter and more durable speaking on engines to 18 hp range.
