  • This was a real bizarre offering from Evinrude between 1948 and 1951. I feel it was a wry over engineered stepping stone to the 1952 and up Lightwin 3hp. I can’t think of anything that is interchangeable on the two different models other than spark plugs, and for good reason. This 3.3 has dual rubber impellers, a built in fuel level gauge on the tank, a closed deck block, a rotary valve passage through the crankshaft center main bearing instead of reeds, and a way over engineered carburetor/induction system on it with a throttle plate for low speed and an additional throttle plate for high speed just outside of the transfer ports. One needs the patience of a stone to get it dialed in, especially without a service manual. I’m looking forward to trying it out on the boat this year. It will take the 1951 year spot in my collection.

Nice running motor that seems dialed in really well, I have a 1948 model that will start and run well then wont start after shutting off with timing advance. I think the air screw adjustment behind the lower left cowling is the culprit and not sure how many turns out from closed it should be. Has lots of spark so coils are good. A neat but frustrating motor but hoping i have better luck with it this summer. Can see why the tiller is part screwdriver LOL. Nice channel btw. I will subscribe. Found it while looking at Westbend motors. I have 57 Muskie 8hp but havent seen another one yet in my youtube search. Havent worked on it yet but will.

This 3.3 took some patience to get dialed in. As long as you have good compression and hot spark, you should be able to get yours running well. I love the West Bends that you referenced!
