  • I goofed and called it a JW-15. It is in fact a JW-14. Enjoy, and run ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.

1958 were best Johnson’s so durable and reliable still I got in the late sixies. When I was nine.

I agree. These are fantastic motors. I own a '59 3hp Evinrude, which is basically the same, and it runs beautyfully 64 years after birth. Quality like this is not produced anymore.

Not bad for a 65 year old engine. I love the reverse!

For sure, it's engines like these that made OMC great back in the day. Simple, rugged, reliable and easy to work on... That thing idles better that most four strokes for sure.

I have 2 of these. One is from 54. It is the only on that was never worked on that I own. I put new coils in it and that was it. Runs realy nice.

I don’t think I’ve come across one of these that can’t be made to run amazingly!

I ran the same motor as a kid, never a hiccup. I believe it was a few years newer as it didn't have the high speed adjustment but everything else looks identical.

Nice motor for sure. I have a mint unused 67 JWF22 (folder) with case that I am debating whether to baptize this summer. Has not seen water or had gas in it ever. If I do test or use it I will have to replace the impeller and check the condition of the coils. Hate to put a wrench on it tbh but it will make a great spare for my 14 foot tinner I have now. Great videos and you do great work! Cheers from the Ottawa valley in Ontario.

Thanks. If your engine made it this far with it being touched, I wouldn’t. Either admire it or sell it. Then buy mine, as it’s for sale. 😉

For some reason they seem to be one of the harder ‘58’s to find.
