I so loved the cowling on this period. Still, I have to say that ( besides my stinger) the 40hp lark was about as beautiful as an OMC could get. Best wishes.
@@GearHeadJP Pretty much, although idle quality declined in the 70s when the overboard excess fuel drains were plugged in favor of an uneven fuel recirc system
Thats quite a find! My 62 10hp Evinrude Sportwin has same front sloping hood in mint condition. The rest not so much but shes a runner and sounds the same when idling. Used to be a real shaker at idle but I managed to eliminate that with some gentle peening on the armature base plate at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 oclock positions.
@JD-hh9io Usually, but check out the driveshaft and propshaft seals and mating surface spaghetti seal while you’re at it. To be honest, if I pull a gear case apart, I usually r replace every seal to be sure. Face it, this stuff is old and rubber dries and shrinks over time. It’s worth the $20 in parts to make it right.
@@GearHeadJP The guy paid $300.00 for it. Then dropped it off at my house and asked me to make it run. The pull starter spring broke on the 1st pull, and it has these goofy ruber mounts for the lower shroud that are shot. I got it going with out much work and it runs well. But I don't have the time now so I told him that it's a winter project.
@JD-hh9io That sounds like plan. In a pinch, I’ve made those lower cowl mounts out of 1/4-20 threaded rod, a piece of 1/4” I.D. copper pipe, a piece of 3/8” I.D. hose, and two flat washers.
Those '64 models are my favorite of this style of cowl. They're such good looking
@VintageOutboardMan We all have our favorites, and there are so many to pick from from back in the day!

@GlenB1963 Evinrude had some nice colors indeed!
What an amazing time capsule for sure. OMC would still be in business today in this engine could still be produced
@fleetwin1 These were definitely a hallmark engine for them! Weren’t they made from 1957 to 1976 in some shape or form!?! 18/20/25hp

@marksmith9295 I love those QD’s! I agree, once you stop the mag from flopping around, they run sweet.
That's a nice motor. I have to work on a 59 18 hp for a friend. Went to drain the gear oil and there wasn't any. Just water.
@JD-hh9io Dang shift rod seals! lol
You think that is all it is?
