Back in the late 70s a mate of mine had that exact same motor. It ran like a top despite its age.

Very nice motor, as usual. I have a 67 6 hp. I haven't done anything with yet. It is kinda heavy. Would you be willing to maybe making a video about your propellers? I find that subject intriguing.

Yeah, those ‘67s are beautiful, but heavy. The Merc 60 in this video actually has the stock prop on it. All my other engines that can plane the boat and have non thru hub exhaust have custom props. There’s no two alike. They are all purpose built for each engine and each engine has different characteristics.

@@GearHeadJP do you make them with a 3d printer?

No, I use propellers from various brand manufacturers and taylor them to the application I’m working on at the time.

How do you get all this speed out of your little outboards? Your boat must be super light and you must be super thin! LOL Another nice little motor! Really enjoying your videos. Thanks for doing this!

The boats weighs 105lbs and I’m 188lbs. It pushes pretty easily. All my engines that are capable of planing speeds and don’t have thru-hub exhaust I’ve made custom propellers for.

I was wondering the same thing lol. My 72 6hp Johnson can only get my 10’ skiff going 11mph LOL. I rebuilt the carb, fresh plugs, thermostat, headgasket. She’s a ripper but not 16mph lol

Get all the weight out of the boat, especially the bow, set trim angle correctly, and think about using a different propeller.

@@GearHeadJP i put a 8.25 x 8.5 3 blade on it over the 2 blade 8 x 7.25 that it came factory. It helped with the hole shot, but top speed remained the same. With myself, a 8 gallon fuel tank, my PFD, paddle, playing with the trim.. i saw no difference in speed. My level 2 setting on the trim has been the best for going on plane and speed.

It sounds like you’re maxed out. I prefer two blade propellers for the smaller engines. If it just won’t go any faster, the engine just may be tired, or maybe the boat bottom has a hook in it.
