Woh baby, that is gorgeous, and the beautiful laquered timber boat is just so period. Those were truely "pleasure crafts". She's got some beans, too. Best wishes to you all from Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 ❤🇺🇸👍

Thanks for the kind words. I love the ride of a wooden boat with a straight bottom.

@@GearHeadJP Definitely would like a boat tour if you can. She looks to really fly with a 50, man what a holeshot. I could almost smell it. Did you happen to get a tach reading? It sounds like a screamer! I'd be curious on the speed too... looks over 35mph, maybe even knots from here. Thanks!

sounds good! i got the same engine a few days ago but where is the water cooling? i can't find the "outlet" to see if it cools.

It has a little “tell tale” pee hole on the port side towards the back. It doesn’t display at high pressure like newer models, but it does indicate if water got to the power head.

Man i got the exact same merc 500 1962. Very very good condition. When i got it it did 23 knots but a month later and maybe an hour of running time, its barely doing 18. Sounds pretty good but it does not "plane". Idk what, the throttle control is not broken. Any suggestions?

@danielbennet8863 Is one of the carburetors flooding? Did the connector between the two throttle plates loosen up only allowing one carburetor to open?

@@GearHeadJP yeah thanks i will check that, can combustion chamber got carbonized. often i have been going slow with it, perhaps 5 knots, i got told by a guy that i need to run it on way higher rpms to not get it carbonized. can that be the problem, do you often run at slower rpms or always full throttle

@danielbennet8863 That shouldn’t be a problem at all if the engine is in good tune.

This thing is quick, looks like a light little boat as Mercury always underratted the power of their motors. This little looks like hes hitting 30 mph, am I close?? Mercury has always been the fastest, best sounding outboards ever built, the racing scream they make, from the 50's motors to the inline 6 tower of power motors to the Mercury Racing 2.5l screamers at 7500rpm+ will never be duplicated.

It was running 35mph at 6000 rpm in this video. I’m still working on it…
