Mid 50s-mid 60s outboards are the best.. NIce work.

I have never seen a finer ignition job than the one you did on this motor. You are good. As for the carb adjustments........... well, maybe not quite as good. Looks like you hunted around quite a bit.
After initial settings and getting it started, run at WOT and get highest rpm from high speed adjustment. Cut to idle and get highest idle rpm from low speed adjustment without lean spit. Give it a minute and open 1/4 turn from where it barely does not lean spit. Go back to WOT and get highest rpm from high speed adjustment. Go back to idle and get highest rpm without lean spit from low rpm adjustment. Open 1/4 turn. Done (except for radical changes in weather). Thanks for such a great video from a great, legendary 1958 Johnson motor. You are a joy for us 2-stroke OMC guys.

I enjoyed this little project. You’ve saved a classic that was destined for the bin and brought that little Johnson back into some sunlight from its deep slumber in some dark corner of the garage. I wish you many smiles every time you pull that string 👍

Honestly, thiers nothing more amazing than seeing old outboard motors. I remember getting an old motor from a guys shed. You can fix these forever. The only issue is when you have the ancient tampering bums that say "they don't make parts for these anymore" think of all the items people might have salvaged if they never came across that saying

The early Glasspar hull design was terrific......faster than other comparable boats in the 1950 to 1980 era. The chines extended prominently forward and upward almost to the bow stem. The old Glasspars are really neat classics and all should be saved. Thank you for giving this little boat new life. Richard Browder, Tidewater Virginia, age 77

Johnson it out of business. This is also 62 year old outboard. Times have changed and the new Evinrudes are no longer reliable

Wow l so much enjoyed seeing that old motor running because it reminds of my childhood days when my late father owned one except it was a 35 HP. I was seven yrs old back then and we stayed in Kenya. The 35 was on a boat built by my dad with marine ply. The plans was out of Popular Mechanics magazine and it was called a Swish. I learned to water ski with that engine on the Swish. I am now 62 and still enjoy skiing.

We had a Johnson 7.5 hp 1956 model Holiday Bronze and Tan . Had it on a Sears 12 foot ran wonderful. Noticed your throws a great prop flow. You might want to turn your fuel and idle back 1/2 a number. Will do a little more speed. They are great engines

Might I recommend the following restoration projects:
Restore a 17/18 foot aluminum fish & ski boat (Starcraft or similiar)
Restore one of those larger aluminum beasts ( 22ft Starcraft Islander/Chieftain)

If you wanted to... You could easily take this boat to Lake Havasu or some West Coast Marinas, and you could sell it as a dingy. I'm sure there would be some sailboat owners who would love it...

I’ll be honest. I’m a little disappointed in the engine choice lol. I was hoping for something a lil better. On another note. You know what would be an awesome project for this ? A jet ski engine and jetdrive swap! Nothing crazy. That little boat rock!

Brandon's Garage 😱😱😱😱. Maybe disappointed was too harsh. Lol. If I’m being honest. I commented before I watched the entire video 😑 I was like I can’t believe he’s gonna use a trolling motor with a hand throttle and have to reach back with one hand and steer with the other. 😂. I was happy to see you actually went back and hooked the controls up. 😎. Actually moved pretty good ! Im waiting for this jet ski 👀

I came to the conclusion 50 years ago that outboards were made by the Japanese. They are the only ones who have small enough hands to get into those small areas to reach the nuts and bolts!
