- This little engine surprised me big time. It really runs amazingly and it sounds and feels like it’s got all of its 5hp if not more. I can’t wait to try this little guy out on a boat and maybe do some prop work. It is a single cylinder, loop charged, air cooled engine with a bing carburetor.
Update- I tested it on a boat and determined that even though it runs perfect and honestly is a pleasure to listen to, it is all bark and no bite. Maximum speed I could get out if it was 7mph. If its intended use was just to be on a small tender or trolling, it would suite those needs fine.

I picked one up a couple of weeks ago but with "Monark-Crescent" on its id plate, the seller said it had been in the garage for some 15-20years, had a broken pull start spring, soon had that repaired got it on the outboard stand fueled it up (50:1 mix) 3 pulls and it ran prefect. Just needs tidying up and a service, well pleased with this little outboard for £30.

These are still quite popular here in Holland, although you'll see the 3.9hp version more often. They're good little motors for sure
It sure did run nice. But it found a new home this past weekend.
Is it possible to get parts in Holland as there's nothing in the UK?
Impressively quiet what's it look like under the hood?
Just your average air cooled two stroke and it has a Bing carburetor.
I have several of those but none has over 2 hp.

You may be pretty accurate with that horse power rating. lol. I just tested it on my boat and the stock propeller pushed it 5mph, where as the custom propeller I made for it went 7mph. It was a great gain in speed, but I almost fell asleep during the ride. 😂
Never have I seen a Volvo outboard 😮.. but it doesn't sound too bad!
It sounded and ran amazing, but the performance was lack luster.
