    I love that your kids are in such a positive season of their lives! Its always such a joy to hear you talk about them. My son is 7, so I am at a different season, but I am also trying to teach him that it's more important to try and to work hard because that is a skill needed for life. Thank you for letting us in your life every week! I look forward to it so much!

      Thank you so much Angela!! I really feel like parenting is one season building on top of the other. The love and presence you give him when he’s 7 will turn into respect and mutual understanding when he is a teenager. I definitely would not have kids that cared about my thoughts if I hadn’t been there for them unconditionally from the beginning. Lots of love to you and happy knitting!

    Love your podcasts. What a great feeling as a parent seeing your children succeed - so happy for you that you get to experience that feeling, it's pure joy. And I was laughing hearing you describe trying to knit with your right hand because I CANNOT do it either. I just finished a colorwork cowl and held them both in my left hand as you said you do with bulkier yarn. I'm curious to see how things work out with the thin yarn. I have never used shorties or done colorwork with anything lighter than a DK so I will be learning through your experiences once again so thanks for always sharing! Have a great week.

    I audibly gasped when I saw the Linea sock! I'm a huge fan of Cascade Heritage sock yarn too! So beautiful! Are the pasqueflower what you're talking about? It would be so cute to make socks with colorwork flowers in those colors so you truly have a Colorado Alpine flower sock!

    Ohhhh Lena. So my entire last week of knitting was the double knit button band of the step by step cardigan by Florence. Exact same thing. I had to do it 4 times. The ripping back was so frustrating I felt tears coming. I had to investigate an alternate way to do the button holes then described in the pattern and they did finally turn out acceptably. It really is a dose of knitting as it is knitting two rows for every one visible row. I am choosing to ignore the not so perfect edge of the cast on….it became a little wonky with all of the ripping back. Soooo…to bring it home…life is like a double knitted button band…we just had to work through it and keep trying and not give up! And to feel proud of ourselves in the end which gives us the self confidence we all need in life. Knit on my friend.

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod День назад

      Oh Cheryl I feel you!! I hope your buttonband got done this week! Try to look at it from a little distance. Not even other knitters will get so close (and if they do, that’s just weird) Knitting is indeed a microcosm of life! It has its ups and downs and its challenges, but it is glorious nonetheless 🥰

    I need to try out shorties for the socks too. I had the same thought when I got my first set in size 4 or 5 mm. I thought what?? I can’t knit with this. How is anyone holding these?? Now I love them for sleeves and so on. I had to rip out my ghost socks again. Ugh!!! I didn’t like how it looked with the magic loop so I re done them using dpn if anything it turned out worse.

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod День назад

      Oh no….did you get the ghost socks squared away?? Colorwork is so tricky without those shorties. I still can’t say they are 100% comfortable, but its getting better with practice.

    Wow, I can see an improvement in your gauge with the color work socks! There’s an awesome free pattern called the June hat-two colors but I think it might be a DK weight. It’s one of my favorite hats to make and comes out lovely. You also can get two hats out of two skeins of yarn by switching the color. I’m happy that you got some good advice about your son and that things are working out.

    So good to see you. I was laughing out loud at your description of holding yarn in your right hand because that is ME with my left hand. I am doing Summer Lee's Colorwork Cuff Club and I am excited about it being a low stress way of improving my colorwork abilities. However, I am still trying to hold one yarn in my right and one in my left hand. I literally can NOT keep the yarn in my left hand. It comes unwrapped and is just hanging there with no tension. Maybe I need to watch a tutorial about how to tension the yarn. Or maybe I just need to call it a day and go back to pick up and drop with my right.

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod День назад

      Hi Valerie! It’s so hard to learn to tension with the other hand! If we combined we’d be a power knitter! I would love someone to show me in person how to hold it English style. I think sometimes its hard on RUclips where there is no feedback from anyone on what is going wrong.

    My Saturday morning stitch with Leena, coffee, and my Yorkies. Tell your son that Yorkies are the cutest - BUT, they are ridiculously hard to train. My father is a dog trainer. I know how to potty train dogs. These girls are so stubborn and willful that they still pee on the floor/carpet to tell me that they are upset about something that didn't go as they planned. They are obstinate in their routines. I love my girls dearly, but I will never own another Yorkie ;-( Demi Moore's memoir was so fun to listen to - thank you! I had COVID and was home from school for a week. As knitters, this is not such a horrible curse. I watched GI Jane and Indecent Proposal. I wasn't in the right mood for Ghost, but that is on the watch list. And huge congrats to you and your son! I have 2 classes ofs9th grade English and 2 classes of AP English Language and Composition this year. I tell the students ALL the time - those of you who work hard and give your best effort are in the minority and it is obvious to all your teachers. It will pay off in so many ways. Kids who have parents who are willing to endure the discomfort of not always being their kids' best friends are at such a huge advantage. Like you, I know you can 'discipline' without harsh actions or words. Peer pressure is ridiculous. And being on a team really makes a positive difference too. Bravo mom. Keep a close eye on his friends - that is so telling. Oh, and FOMO got me when I was sick - I am doing the MKAL. As always, I don't even attempt to keep up, but I just love the community and Stephen West so much. I am enjoying the first clue and am going to do the brioche for the second clue.

    Loved this podcast. Your Book Club Cardigan is looking so great and I appreciate the tips as I plan to make one "one day!" I laughed out loud when you said you carried The Sock Project book around like a kid with a comic book. I did the exact same thing for a while after I got mine and, honestly, it's still within arm's reach of where I knit. Love your daughter's Linea socks, the colors are so great. I think the lavender is Thistle? I have the Highlighter Yellow already, but added the Thistle to my wish list at Wool & Co. for a future pair. The story you told about your son's academic attitude shift was fabulous, even though I was not aware of your podcast back when you first brought up the issue. We always told our kids that school was their "work" and the key to having choices in how to live their life, and we encouraged them in a similar manner to how you approached your son's development of a work ethic, and all of the abilities that flow from that aspect of one's character. My kids are now in their mid-to-late 30's and both doing very well, but your story sure took me back to a dusty corner of my journey as a parent and it was a wonderful reminder of that time in my life. Thank you. I hope your Cardigan is everything you are hoping it will be and that you enjoy your upcoming vacation in the mountains. Looking forward to your next pod and, as always, Happy Knitting!

    Love the color work socks! I also have Summer Lee’s book and agree that it is beautiful. I put it down for a bit but I am inspired to pick it back up. Thanks for sharing about your son and his journey with academics. I have similar thoughts about my 6th grader. She would rather be doing anything else besides academics and I want her to take school more seriously. She is such a social butterfly. I want to find a way to motivate her without taking the fun out of it all. I was not very serious about academics as a kid because my environment did not foster that for me. As a grown up, I love learning and sometimes regret not being more focused in grade school. I really want her to be able to go after and achieve whatever she wants in life and I do believe that one place to practice those skills is in school. I am going to give some thoughts to this. She talks about wanting to go to college so there is some internal motivation. On another note, I am knitting the MKAL. This is my first one and I love/hate it!😂 I love my colors Ive picked out! I am using Cascade Heritage sock yarn in Dusty Turquoise and Como Blue! I love casting on and the tutorials and the accountability and excitement of wanting to knit and be ready for the next clue. I am an intermediate beginner and this is the most stitches I’ve had on my needles. I love knitting over 300 stitches but hate, HATE purling over those same stitches! I keep telling myself this is an opportunity to practice. Those words only help sometimes. Have a great weekend! ❤

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod День назад

      I think 6th great is exactly the right time to start helping them take school seriously. That’s about the time that I realized my son needed guidance in that area, and by the time 9th grade has come around, he has transformed completely. And that’s when grades start to matter!!! Oh yes, you are not the only one love/hating the MKAL!! It’s a lot, and I’m with you-the purling is a slog!!! Take your time, don’t feel pressure to go fast week to week. I’m rooting for you!

Sock knitting is what I do when I need something to rest, when I don't want to deal with a lot of thinking when I knit. And they make such great presents and are so good for knitting on the go. Your daughter sounds precious. She must be so much fun to knit for. My children (grown) are knitworthy but they are not easy to knit for as they are very specific in their likes and those likes change periodically! Still, I try! Most of us are a hot mess in some way so embrace that, too, and go on with your life 😄

      The only thing that makes sock knitting complicated for gift-giving is fit! It has taken me a while to find what works perfectly for my foot. I feel like it will take forever to figure it out for my family! But I will definitely try. I want to make my son and hubby some slippers 💚 And find out if they are knit worthy LOL

      @@AnotherKnittingPod ha! 😄 Oh yes, you must determine if people are knitworthy before making socks for them. Socks might be a "relatively" small and quick project, but still...it's time (and yarn) invested. I've discovered that I can make pullovers, socks and scarves for my daughter but my son is a little more difficult when it comes to selecting the right project. Good luck with it!

    I love that you embrace your knits, imperfections and all. I am the same. The act of knitting, of working with yarn and seeing pieces take shape , is actually the best part for me. I do enjoy having handknits of course, but they don´t have to be mistake-free or look as if they're store bought for me to love them. Your spirit is lovely. I hope you enjoy the rest of your knitting year!

      Thank you Noelle! If we wanted perfection, we could go buy something made my a machine. That feels very sterile to me. I will never buy a store bought sweater again!!

    I started knitting socks last winter. I found Summer Lee in June I think. Oh my goodness! And the cuff club I’m so excited to work them up. I started the ghost one last night. Usually I knit a tad loose but have been working on tightening it. But my first color work in August I frogged it 4 x because it was too tight and then too loose. Ugh!! So I took a break but these socks I couldn’t wait to cast them on.

      Yay! We are both on a similar sock knitting journey. Colorwork does make me nervous, but since I’m already a loose knitter, I figure I just need to maintain that tension. There is definitely a lot of trial and error. I hope your ghost socks are bringing you tons of spooky joy!

      I finished the ghost chart to the first sock. The black is little loose. I think for the second sock I’ll do the black as a duplicate stitch. I think I need to get my tension better using 2 colors before I add more. My tension is fine when I do beanies but socks 🙄 practice, practice I guess.

    You got bit by the sock bug! I just love knitting them. Same reasons- no pattern needed, and the yarns are so fun. I love that I can knit on them without needing to concentrate- so I can knit while we play Barbie’s, at swim practice, when I’m too tired to think, when I am overwhelmed, in the school pick up line. I loved the story of Kaia and her shawl. That is so sweet, that the thought of being away from it moved her to tears. What a little love ❤ Julieann also know as twin stitches designs also does a lot of cute sock patterns.

      I totally am! It’s funny how I knit my first sock a few years ago and it took this long to become obsessed! Thanks for the recs! I love looking at all the fun colorwork socks. I think I asked you this already, but do you use magic loop or shorties?

    Knitting socks without a pattern makes you feel like a Master Knitter! That’s why I love knitting socks so much. I hope your cardigan turns out to be your dream cardigan. However, if it doesn’t, I can highly recommend the Miles Shirt Jacket by Ozetta. Fits so well around the shoulders and doesn’t slide off. It’s just a beautiful simple but well tailored design.

    What pattern did you use for the socks?

      My go to vanilla sock pattern is the Soxploration Socks by Earthtones Girl. It’s the shadow wrap heel, which is my perfect heel. Fits great and is easy to do.

      It really does take time! I knit my first sock maybe 2 years ago, and I’ve only just now become obsessed. It takes a bit but I think its worth it to keep trying. Once it clicks, the joy is complete!! Especially if you can work simple ones in colors that inspire you.

    I loved your comments about finding a passion in your life, and your successful friend wishing for something he felt as strongly about as you (we) do knitting. Great advice, try more things, take some classes in different areas, and I would add get involved in your community (Red Cross for me). I do love your podcasts, thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts! ❤

      Yes!! I think passion in life is so underrated, and I really think phones have taken up so much of people’s attention, that they don’t engage in the real world as much.
