I’m not on Facebook, I deleted instagram, I don’t have Twitter or whatever and I can honestly say that my life hasn’t changed a bit. I do, however, listen to RUclips videos all day long (home alone, disabled, etc) and am slowly switching over to audio books and music. Partially because I want to read more books and partially because of the rampant consumption on so many creators videos. I don’t need more stuff and I need to see more creativity and creators just living normal lives and not buying everything in sight because my brain doesn’t handle it well. You are so right that we all know need to choose what works best for ourselves.❤
Awesome job of taking care of yourself! Deleting social media can be such a form of self love. With so much on your plate I'm sure all of your viewers, including me, will make space for you to focus on things in your life that needs your attention ❤
Look at you with a ring light! Hello professional! 😊 I think it is so fitting that your daughter guided you not to quit the shawl without giving it another shot- because that’s probably the advice you would give her in a similar situation.❤ drop by drop our hard work sinks into them! I think the shawl color is great- it will look so good with denim! But as long as it makes you smile I think it’s the right choice.
Love your shawl, personally I don’t think the colour is too bright it’s such a lovely saturated colour and will pair with any colour ❤ my favourite knit in 2024 was the pressed flower shawl, for me it hit the sweet spot of being interesting to knit but not too complex not to be able to knit it while watching tv. I have it draped on the back of a chair and it brings me such joy when I see it xx
I came across your podcast recently and it’s quickly becoming a favorite! I really enjoy your thoughtfulness about your knits and life in general. I think you are out West, and I’m in Vermont, but I get a vibe from you that we would be great real-life friends ☺️ Happy knitting!
I LOVE the Sulphur yellow color of your shawl! It gives LIFE! I'm so inspired by your thoughts about shutting of Mark Zuck's social media apps: I'm so WITH YOU. Thanks for another great podcast!
Enjoyed your podcast today. Totally with you on the Petite Knit patterns as well as Instagram. Hope you can do what is needed to get through that Master’s program. You will help folks looking for an empathetic and caring person. Happy knitting💛
As a new knitter, I find the plastic baby pins stitch markers the best. When it says "pm", I fasten them to the yarn between the two stitches instead of placing them on the needle between the two stitches. It makes it easier for them not to fall off or lose its place.
Yes, traveling stitch markers. ME 🙋🏻♀️ its happened to me. It’s because your stitch markers are too small. they travel under your stitches. If you use bigger markers they don’t have the ease in moving under your stitches. ❤
Ahhh Leena. I agree with everything so I don’t want to elaborate! Thank you for taking a moment to tape. The lower setting for your ring light was great.
Totally agree about PetitKnit….don’t understand the craze, and it’s created such a monoculture in the knitting world too. Love your yellow shawl: such a cheerful colour for this wintery time. Happy knitting, thanks for your great podcast, and I hope next week is calmer for you. Yaël
balance is what I'm focussing on this year and your thoughts on social media and mindfulness is resonating SO hard with me. I'm really trying to get back to my creativity and create a calmer life for myself, I used to find inspiration everywhere but my thoughts are so drowned out now with unnecessary nonsense. the struggle is real!!! also I am so late to the pressed flowers party also but I want to knit the socks, sweater and shawl this year :)
Off topic Leena, but it was lovely to look up, while knitting and watching/listening to the podcast and see your beautiful dog sleeping peacefully over in the next room. So interesting to hear what you talked about in relation to instagram - I can certain relate to scrolling, and then being annoyed with myself a lot of the time for wasting that time - it would have been 100% more productive to knit a row or two😅 I love the textured projects, so will be looking forward to seeing the one that you start making.
The shifting of the stitch markers has happened to me too!!! Frustrating! I will watch the comments to see if someone can explain that. You have so MUCH going on - be kind to yourself and knit your shawl. You are right that complicated patterns force you to focus and leave other stresses that occupy your brain cells. It's a mental vacation. Best to you.
Thank you so much for reaching out to me. I tried to respond but could not. I am in NY right now. It’s VKL and am together with a couple of knitting friends. It’s really great. I am like you. I have so many sweater quantity of yarns that I need to work on them this year. I have not bought any yarn. Right now I am working on a Sophie scarf. It’s the only thing my brain can absorb at this time. Keep well.
I totally love that colour, made a sweater with Porto Tonic ( I believe) by Walk collection……but it is not my colour sadly enough🥲, so I frogged it. But with your dark hair it will be very pretty I think. Nowdays you have to be very careful what you let digitally get into your life. But I like knitting and I reflected on my knits the last year. I did not count the amount, probably less, , but looked if the piece I had made was still something I want to have. And they all were. Different to the ones I knitted the years before. I do have a frogging pile. And the strange thing is that in that first year, the ones that I still liked very much, were the ones that were different from what Instagram preferred. I think, being yourself and knitting the things you want is really rewarding and indeed you need to be very true to yourself to be rewarded in that kind of way.🤔
I have had stitch markers move over in lace knitting too, can cause a lot of grief! I think maybe it happens when there is a yarn over before the marker.
Yes! I was just about to make this same reply. Last summer I knitted a poncho that was entirely k2 tog, yo across the Whole thing. I had to rip out and restart it twice!
A new video from you is such a treat. I love what you’re saying about shawls. I haven’t made one yet. Just two Sophie scarfs that are longer so they work for me. I inspired!
That bad egg yarn is sooooo pretty! It’s very you in a good way ❤ that’s why I love knitting, you can stitch so much of your personality into your project!
I think the pressed flowers shawl is a great choice for your precious yarn. I also agree with your choice to delete instagram. I haven’t deleted it but I don’t know when the last time was when I was on it It is a time waster for sure. I hope you enjoy your time with friends this weekend 💜
I just wanted to say that I think Schoppel zauberball yarn is beautiful. It’s a bit pricey too but I just wanted to tell you in case you didn’t know about it. I have never used Spincycle. I love your green shawl. I just might make it after I finish my current (must get done) for my son and daughter-in-law. you are so lovely and keep calm.
Hi, Lena. That “challenge” shawl is perfect to encourage you, and now me ❤, to sit, be still, and meditate while knitting. Slow living in small doses. See ya next time. ❤
I’d love to live vicariously through you - that Neigh sweater would be so cool to make but I am far from that skill level! It’s exciting to see the colors you would pick! ❤
My goodness Leena, I love your podcast (read: love you!) I was worried when you were taking on your extra studies that the podcast would go because I think it's so much work & time for you, so I'm glad you're still ok to do it. I look forward to that hour of your company and the peace and gentleness ( and all those other things you've said others say about it) each week, but I know you'll be gentle with yourself if you miss some weeks or don't have the brain power to film (LOVE how you call it 'tape' haha) on occasion. Take care lovely lady xx PS I find my stitch markers sometimes move when it's a loose gauge, like lace (which I knit very loose), so my stitches are a bit looser on the needles, and the stitch markers are a bit small and can accidentally slip under the stitch on occasion. I'm sure you'd have worked that out though, and would know that.
Your Calla shawl is so beautiful! I totally get what you mean about an engaging knit being more meditative. It is one of the reasons I love Natasja’s designs so much…they always keep my interest. I have made the Calla sweater, but not the shawl. It is also a beautiful design that I think looks flattering on everyone.
I deleted FB when I started homeschooling my son in 2018 bc I felt overwhelmed with all the parenting advice. Then deleted IG when I decided to go back to school…no regrets! I feel no FOMO ! Just like yarn, it’s a personal choice ❤
I just love your podcasts - I was rolling when you were talking about wearing sweatshirts and yoga pants (needing a uniform like a toddler)! Still laughing probably because that is my uniform as well - I don't have to think about it!! Your shawl is beautiful-way to go not giving up on it!💗
I had a thought on your traveling stitch markers - are they “moving” because of increases/decreases in the flower chart? Also I am deeply obsessed with the Bad Egg color way myself! I knit a Stonecrop sweater with bad egg and a solid neon yellow as the cc and a beige neutral mc and it’s my most worn sweater.
Hi Lena! Love your podcast as usual. This one really resonated with me. I am considering closing my Instagram account as well. I’m going through similar thought processes about everything. Like you, I too have more things in my queue than I will ever knit. We support you and have your back! Cheers🥂
Hi Lena! I think your stitch markers are too small. They can slip under the stitch when they are pushed around on the cord. I really like the ones from Cocoknits that are about 1/2 inch diameter.
I LOVE your podcast and I hope you find your zen with school and with the rest of your life. I know it is hard and I would really miss you if you had to give this up or reduce the number of times you podcast but you need to take care of your beautiful self. Thank you for your comments about IG….I feel the same way and I’m going to delete my account there. My weaving community on Facebook is too important to me so I will keep that but I kind of cringe when I think about going to FB. Regarding people being able to private message you…what about Ravelry? Stay warm this weekend….I’m in a cold weather state this weekend and brrrrrrr!
I know what you are saying about the shifting stitch markers! I find it happens to me when I am knitting thin yarn and the stitch markers kind of 'fall' over the stitch it sits beside so if I am not looking then I will knit the stitch that actually belongs AFTER the marker because the marker 'fell' over it and exposed that stitch. Does that make sense? lol
You are such an inspiration. Going back for a new masters in order to help other in your next career move. First wow. Saying what you think (whether it’s about petit knit or instagram) whilst being thoughtful of others feelings. Second wow. But most of all…. Can we acknowledge this new notion of « dampuary » which made me laugh so hard ?!? Yes go for that glass of wine on your Thursday night if you feel like it! As long as you do it in a healthy way go for it!
I’m not on Facebook, I deleted instagram, I don’t have Twitter or whatever and I can honestly say that my life hasn’t changed a bit. Quiet, empty space…oh boy did this one hit. This really clicked for me. Thank you. Thank you.

I totally agree with your PK take.
Agreed. I honestly think the patterns are generally very simple but expensive to buy.
Brava! Self examination is very important. Hope you can juggle all your commitments. Family and faith is most important.
Enjoyed your podcast today. Totally with you on the Petite Knit patterns as well as Instagram. Hope you can do what is needed to get through that Master’s program. You will help folks looking for an empathetic and caring person. Happy knitting💛

… Happened to me too. I reckon the stitch marker can slip under my stitches and move. Changing to a bigger one helps ;)
Shifting of stitch markers has happened to me also, but it has happened to me when the stitch marker is next to a yarnover.
Your voice is so soothing ❤
LOVE your honesty! Totally at the same place with instagram …. 😊 see you next time!

Gurl….that tweedy yellow color on the shawl is great, with a grey turtleneck and legging? Yes please!
Yes it looks stunning on her! Makes her glow ❤

This season of chaos, whether long or short, will end. You will emerge from it stronger than before.
Love the Hilma sweater!! Will make it too!! Its currently on sale on ravelry for $5.64 ☺️ (thats the striped sweater) 😊
I love cascade yarn!!
29:38 cracked me up. So relatable! I’m the same way. Terrified of white!!!!
Your podcasts are always beautiful. Thank you Leena.
We're getting a lot of snow tomorrow. Lots of knitting - good times!

Love!

Caution knitting Dustland by SW. I loved the stitch patterns but the fit was not wonderful so I frogged it.
