I watch a TON of knitting podcasts. A ton. And I think you are my #1 fav. I can relate to and enjoy your taste in knitting, passion for fiber, passion as a mom, taste in movies, and book choices. Thank you for taking the time to share a corner of your world with us! Couple things. I listen to NPR's Book of the Day while driving to work. LOVE it so much. Demi Moore is one year older than I am, so I connected to her my enire adult life. I've always known there was so much more to her than what we saw. And now, how she is still in Bruce Willis' life - that speaks volumes. And their gorgeous daughters... Last - sock knitting is my walking knit. It took forever for me to work up the courage to knit while I walk (in a safe place obviously). You can see where you are walking while you knit. I promise. I listen to books while walking and knitting and I put in so many more miles because I am in absolute heaven. Every once in a while a person on the path will stop and comment - especially when they are walking with young girls. I'm obsessed. The miles and time absolutely fly by. Give it a try... But pick a familiar and safe path. LOVE love love your videos.
Aw, Sylvia. Your comment made my day. Thank you so much for telling me that, because it really means a lot. Ok, now you have me making goals to knit a sock and walk at the same time!! I can imagine it being the most rhythmic, soothing way to spend time. If you love Demi Moore, you are going to be obsessed with her memoir. To be given such an honest glimpse into her interior life was really amazing. And just like you, she has a cute little pup too! I always think of your Yorkies because my son wants a tiny yorkie when he’s grown 😂
Dear Lina, adorable garment you created, this you are wearing ! About the V neck and falling off shoulders.. You know, you can alllllways add some crochet border or some rib around the neck opening and it will feel amaaaazing !!!! I know you know , just I had to say… Joy is what we knit for !❤
Hello my friend!! Maybe I will add something around the neck to cinch it in a little more. I love the depth, I just wish it would stay in place!! Lots of love to you and happy knitting!!
@@AnotherKnittingPod I much resonated with this falling off shoulders, because I myself feel a tendency to avoid garments if they bring any discomfort for me. /too tight too loose too too iychy too short too log, you name it / Sometimes it comes to the point when I don't want to see some color anymore in my wardrobe, and I feel I have to gift something I have knitted // even something much much worked on Hugs ✨
Hey Beautiful! I love the bit about passion. My passions give my life meaning and purpose! I would perish without it! Also love the suggestion about Demi Moore’s memoir. I am knitting my first cardigan and I am super excited. Thanks for sharing!
Hello my friend!! Yes to passion giving life meaning! It’s so underrated, but I think it is the difference between a joyful life and a *meh* life. People think its money but I feel like its truly passion! (And money to buy lots of yarn 🙃)
I love that you embrace your knits, imperfections and all. I am the same. The act of knitting, of working with yarn and seeing pieces take shape , is actually the best part for me. I do enjoy having handknits of course, but they don´t have to be mistake-free or look as if they're store bought for me to love them. Your spirit is lovely. I hope you enjoy the rest of your knitting year!
Thank you Noelle! If we wanted perfection, we could go buy something made my a machine. That feels very sterile to me. I will never buy a store bought sweater again!!
I just love your podcasts - you always inspire me to try something new. I really want to try sock knitting but I'm having a hard time mastering magic loop - will keep practicing! I'd love to get to the point where I can walk and knit socks, wouldn't that just be the best! Your passion for knitting just spills out the screen and I love it because I have the same passion! Thanks and have a great weekend!
Aw, thank you so much for your kind words! Magic loop is a little tricky at first but then its completely second nature. Very worth struggling through because you will turn to it time and time again. If I were a little more tech savvy I would tape a tutorial sharing my tips and how I do it.
Always love catching up with you!! As for socks - I recently grabbed 2 leftovers and I'm alternating the colors with 3 round stripes, this way I can just carry the yarn along without cutting and, I will probably do the shadow wrap heel on this pair because it's a little lighter weight sock yarn. Our weather here has finally cooled down, makes me so happy.🙂🍁🍂🍁
Hello my friend!! I’m doing exactly the same striped sock as you! I want to make sure I can nail the fit for my daughter before I attempt anything fancy 😂 With the right yarn, its so much fun!
The whole reason I learned to knit was so I could make socks. They are just so easy to carry along and even better to wear. Looking forward to following your sock journey!
Lena, I forgot to comment last week. Kids and life got in the way. But if you want custom self striping sock yarn...string things color theory yarn custom dyed me yarn because I could find the right combo of colors. I was trying to find cobolt and canary yellow for my husband. It's beautiful, she wound it for me for free, and didn't charge anything extra for the custom order. I recommend her. It was like 30 bucks for a 100 gram skein and like 12 for a mini for the toes cuffs and heals. Love seeing all your works. Thank you so much for sharing every week. I love seeing what you are up to!
Great pod! I loved your "off topic" tangent into the subject of finding your passion! I feel the same way. Currently working on some socks too that I hope to be my go-to comfy pair! Going down a needle size really helped me to tighten up my gauge - I think a denser fabric makes for a nice and durable sock.
I love your channel. I have Summer Lees sock project book. You are going to be thrilled. I need to knit more socks! I really do. You have inspired me. I love the idea of memorizing the pattern AND putting short notes on my phone. 🥰🥰🥰
Yay! I’m glad you’ve loved Summer Lee’s book…its so colorful and inspirational. My daughter and I are both loving all the inspiration. It does take a few socks to get obsessed, but I think if you stick with it, you’ll love it!
I’m becoming a sock knitter too! I use 9 inch circulars and use a 56 stitch cast on. I’ve found that if I start the 2nd sock AS I’m knitting and Al ost done with the second, I have a lot of momentum. I pull from the outside for one and the inside for the other. I love love your channel and love that you check in every wk or so. I really look forward to it!😊
Thank you so much for your kind words!! Great idea about starting the second alongside the end of the first…I was chatting with a lady that works at my LYS and she says she does them both at the same time on separates shorties. I never thought about it, but that is not a bad idea. Do you not struggle with the 9inch needles? You’ve gotten comfortable with them?
I truly enjoy your channel and hearing about how you knit at your kids sporting events. Brings back wonderful memories of when I would do the same! Enjoy these days…they pass all too quickly.😊
I loved your comments about finding a passion in your life, and your successful friend wishing for something he felt as strongly about as you (we) do knitting. Great advice, try more things, take some classes in different areas, and I would add get involved in your community (Red Cross for me). I do love your podcasts, thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts! ❤
Yes!! I think passion in life is so underrated, and I really think phones have taken up so much of people’s attention, that they don’t engage in the real world as much.
Thanks for another fun podcast. I’m a very loose knitter too and for socks I have to go down to a triple 0 needle (1.5 mm). Chiaogoo makes both double (1.75mm) and triple zero needles. You can find them online at Jimmy Beans Yarns if you’re interested. Happy sock knitting! 😊
Knitting socks without a pattern makes you feel like a Master Knitter! That’s why I love knitting socks so much. I hope your cardigan turns out to be your dream cardigan. However, if it doesn’t, I can highly recommend the Miles Shirt Jacket by Ozetta. Fits so well around the shoulders and doesn’t slide off. It’s just a beautiful simple but well tailored design.
Hi Leena! To prevent bleeding of your yarn you could try a bit of vinegar in the water together with the color catchers....OR just steam block them. When I do that the colors never bleed 😊 I also joined the Colorwork Cuff Club! I, too, purchased the Sock Project and love it. Additionally have you seen Stone Knits Charming Colorwork Socks book by Charlotte Stone. I think she is the genius of Colorwork socks and takes Colorwork socks to the next level!
Hi Micki!! YES-Stone Knits has such beautiful socks! They are so whimsical and fun, but I am so intimidated by the colorwork. Sometimes she has three colors going and I’m just not there yet with socks! Maybe someday. Her mushroom ones are my favorite.
Hi Anne! That is good to know! Cascade Heritage is my favorite sock yarn. I love the range of colors and how soft it is! It really doesn’t bleed?? That is quite a plus, especially for the bright reds and fuchsias…
You got bit by the sock bug! I just love knitting them. Same reasons- no pattern needed, and the yarns are so fun. I love that I can knit on them without needing to concentrate- so I can knit while we play Barbie’s, at swim practice, when I’m too tired to think, when I am overwhelmed, in the school pick up line. I loved the story of Kaia and her shawl. That is so sweet, that the thought of being away from it moved her to tears. What a little love ❤ Julieann also know as twin stitches designs also does a lot of cute sock patterns.
I totally am! It’s funny how I knit my first sock a few years ago and it took this long to become obsessed! Thanks for the recs! I love looking at all the fun colorwork socks. I think I asked you this already, but do you use magic loop or shorties?
P.S. Shadow wrap heel for the win! I love them, too, and almost always use this heel on all my socks. Sock knitting is what I do when I need something to rest, when I don't want to deal with a lot of thinking when I knit. And they make such great presents and are so good for knitting on the go. Your daughter sounds precious. She must be so much fun to knit for. My children (grown) are knitworthy but they are not easy to knit for as they are very specific in their likes and those likes change periodically! Still, I try! Most of us are a hot mess in some way so embrace that, too, and go on with your life 😄
The only thing that makes sock knitting complicated for gift-giving is fit! It has taken me a while to find what works perfectly for my foot. I feel like it will take forever to figure it out for my family! But I will definitely try. I want to make my son and hubby some slippers 💚 And find out if they are knit worthy LOL
@@AnotherKnittingPod ha! 😄 Oh yes, you must determine if people are knitworthy before making socks for them. Socks might be a "relatively" small and quick project, but still...it's time (and yarn) invested. I've discovered that I can make pullovers, socks and scarves for my daughter but my son is a little more difficult when it comes to selecting the right project. Good luck with it!
I looooove Jeff Bridges so will definitely be checking out The Old Man 😊 I know what you mean- I also feel incredibly blessed to have knitting in my life!
Yes, Jeff Bridges is so good! I had never paid much attention to him before. And I do think we’re the luckiest ones! Not only do we have knitting, but its something we can take everywhere. I feel like its my constant companion through life.
@AnotherKnittingPod Gotta say that both of your recommendations-The Old Man and Demi Moore's book- are excellent- I'm really enjoying both of these- thanks!
I LOVE Summer's Sock Project book. I got it for my birthday back in July and I have never actually put it away because I'm always using it! I'm also obsessed with the colorwork cuff club! Kate Atherley has a book called Custom Socks, and, if you can handle the math, you can make your socks perfectly bespoke! Also, my new favorite sock yarn is Lang Wool Addicts Footprints. It's 50/50 (?) cotton/wool, which has made the best-fitting socks I've ever knit! Plus the colors are amazing! I'm so excited to see that you're so excited about socks!!
A fellow lover of Summer Lee!! Yay! I’m loving the book so far. Makes me want to knit nothing but socks. How do you find a cotton wool blend? I’m so curious…does it stretch out more or less?
@@AnotherKnittingPod I was skeptical as well. I thought I'd try it (because the yarn is beautiful and I wanted to play with it) and if it stretched and didn't bounce back, I could accept them as slouchy socks. But I don't know how to explain it, it totally works! The amount of wool in there has enough memory that the sock stays perfectly shaped to my foot even in just stockinette. Oh, I just remembered that I did do the heels/toes/cuffs with Patons Kroy, so I imagine that does affect the structure.
Leena I just adore your channel!! I have finally started seriously knitting socks and I'm having so much fun! Also, my daughter played volleyball for 10 years through school. Fifth grade through two years of college. It's a great sport! Can have It's share of drama, but there's lots of knitting time at those tournaments. Enjoy!!
Hi Kimmy!! So nice to hear from you. Yay for volleyball! It’s an adjustment from being a basketball family, but its just as fun to watch. Where there are humans, there is drama!! And yes, sock knitting is its own type of magic. I’m very excited to have caught the bug, finally 💜
Yes! I need to find a shawl pin that I really like. I keep looking, but I never see one. My friend Jessica is going to Rhinebeck, so maybe I’ll ask her to take a look!
I’ve never knit a cardigan yet. I’m going to knit one for myself this winter after holiday gift knitting. With your Book Club cardi, why not go ahead and knit it to pattern and just leave the top button unbuttoned?
Yes! I hope you knit the cardigan of your dreams on your first go. Unlike me, who is still years into my search 😂 I finally started the button band and found that the buttons will actually be perfect. Yay for happy accidents!
I started knitting socks last winter. I found Summer Lee in June I think. Oh my goodness! And the cuff club I’m so excited to work them up. I started the ghost one last night. Usually I knit a tad loose but have been working on tightening it. But my first color work in August I frogged it 4 x because it was too tight and then too loose. Ugh!! So I took a break but these socks I couldn’t wait to cast them on.
Yay! We are both on a similar sock knitting journey. Colorwork does make me nervous, but since I’m already a loose knitter, I figure I just need to maintain that tension. There is definitely a lot of trial and error. I hope your ghost socks are bringing you tons of spooky joy!
I finished the ghost chart to the first sock. The black is little loose. I think for the second sock I’ll do the black as a duplicate stitch. I think I need to get my tension better using 2 colors before I add more. My tension is fine when I do beanies but socks 🙄 practice, practice I guess.
I hope the Bookclub is all you hope it to be!! I have yet to make my “perfect” cardigan but I have made 2 that I love that are great lengths (cover the tush!) and have really thick neckbands…the GRAN by Emily Greene and Structures by Carmen Garcia de Mora. Very different constructions but great neck backs that DO. NOT. slip! 🎉
I love summer lee too!!! I visit a friend regularly who lives in Tulsa which is where summer lee lives! I’m thinking i need to find a way to meet that woman! Re:bleeding - I’m going to try my soak with vinegar - that helps to set colors. And then in the rinse I’ll use a color catcher. Idk if it will solve it or not. I had a similar incident with magenta and a white trim on a baby blanket!!! It was so disappointing! At least in that case I was able to remove the trim and redo it but still heart breaking!!!
You do need to meet her! She seems really nice and genuine. Oh its just heartbreaking to have color bleed and ruin a project. I’m so glad you were able to salvage your project!
Oh, also...I don't know if you have ever heard of arnica, is a cream or a gel, that is homeopathic, made from sunflowers...I think that helps with joint pain. I've used it since I was a kid, but it really helps with aches and pains we knitters get. I also take magnesium to help with joint health. Right now I'm making a fingering weight color work sweater for my son, and a pair of socks for my husband and my thumbs are feeling the tiny yarn and needles. I don't have any knitting friends, so I just like sharing any helpful things I might have with you :) that shawl is beautiful! What a wonderful surprise its going to be
I will have to try arnica! I’ve used it in the past but never thought about it on my hands. I’m so happy that we are knitting friends! The internet really brings us together around our shared passion. Lots of love to you and happy knitting this week!
Thomas Perrynis the author of The Old Man and I LOVE his Jane Whitfield series - try those out!!! She’s a dr’s wife who rescues people as a last resort.
I absolutely adore Summer Lee and have knit lots of her patterns. I’m on sock 2 of the Colorwork Cuff Club now. The one thing I disagree with her on is that you should tighten up your knitting on purpose. As a reformed tight knitter “so my knitting would look more even” I think it’s not great advice. Instead, change your needle size. Knitting should be fun and relaxing and not a constant battle between what your hands want to do and what your brain thinks they should do.
I love this Anne. Thank you for sharing your experience. I actually took your advice and found 000 needles, in an effort to find a sweet spot where I can relax and still have tidy stitches. Surely there is a middle ground, because you’re right, knitting should be relaxing. I especially worry about it when I have to use shorties for any colorwork in a sock!
My go to vanilla sock pattern is the Soxploration Socks by Earthtones Girl. It’s the shadow wrap heel, which is my perfect heel. Fits great and is easy to do.
That’s fantastic. I agree, I haven’t suffered from second sock struggles either. That being said, I am about to break my own rule and start a pair for my daughter before finishing the second sock I’m working on! Oh well…I’m pretty sure I’ll get back to it soon enough.
Hi. Guess what. Give your daughter one of your project bags for traveling with her shawl. No snags and she can place in her bag no problem. If you’re like me we have plenty. Or a small zipper pouch. And I’m a former volleyball mom. Keep a chair and mindless project always in the trunk, snacks and drink. Have fun.
You’re actually a hobbit! I have a size 11 foot also so I get it-but I’m tall. Love the green socks and well done of tightening the stitches. I’ve also been working on that as a loose knitter who also uses a size 0 for knitting socks. I love knitting socks and just have one constantly in my list of things to knit. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to be able to be knitting and doing something productive rather than just scrolling on a phone?
YES!! Scrolling on the phone is so depressing to me. It’s just taking our precious life and throwing it in the trash can. Whenever I look out across a group of people and see all those heads down, it makes me very sad. Yesterday I found a pair of 000 needles! I’m going to try them, to see if I can get my ribbing super tight. I’ll report back.
Just wanted you to know if you read this that Port Fiber in Portland Maine is having a 15% off sale with code WISH11 and they have tons of spincycle. Even have your favorite ghost ranch. But it does end tonight…yikes…and you can always count on me to be a bad influence with yarn buying!!!
It really does take time! I knit my first sock maybe 2 years ago, and I’ve only just now become obsessed. It takes a bit but I think its worth it to keep trying. Once it clicks, the joy is complete!! Especially if you can work simple ones in colors that inspire you.

Loved your podcast. I listened to a book I really enjoyed. It’s called the glassmaker.
Hi Jackie! How are you? I hope life and knitting are going beautifully.
I will check out the Glassmaker-I love book and pattern recommendations!
I love sock knitting. I recommend that instead of tight knitting that you go smaller on your needles. That is easier on my hands. Great content🎉
Yes, I think you are 100% right. I actually bought a pair of 000 needles yesterday! I’m loving them so far. I didn’t know they existed!
Hi - We enjoyed the first season of The Old Man also. It set the bar high.
Hi Karen!! I’m glad you liked it. I feel like the middle has slumped a little, but hopefully it’ll pick up for me soon 😘
Hello from Swansea, Illinois. ❤❤❤❤ sweaters without a buttonholes I use a shawl pin to close it. I love your sweater it’s beautiful.
Unlike me, who is still years into my search 😂
I finally started the button band and found that the buttons will actually be perfect.
NOT. slip! 🎉
Fantastic! I will add them to my to be knit list. I refuse to spend months of knitting on another cardigan that won’t stay on.
@@AnotherKnittingPod lots of love back! And happy knitting to you too!!!
Thomas Perrynis the author of The Old Man and I LOVE his Jane Whitfield series - try those out!!! She’s a dr’s wife who rescues people as a last resort.
I will! Thank you for the recs!
What pattern did you use for the socks?
My go to vanilla sock pattern is the Soxploration Socks by Earthtones Girl. It’s the shadow wrap heel, which is my perfect heel. Fits great and is easy to do.
I literally go from one pair of socks to another. No second sock syndrome for me
That’s fantastic.
Have fun.
That is a really good idea-I don’t know why that didn’t occur to me! I spent way too much time knitting that half and half to have a snag disaster!!
@@AnotherKnittingPodTriple 0’s-never heard of those. Interested to hear your reaction on them for tighter ribbing.
Oooooo! That is dangerous indeed! You are so sweet to share it with me! We are all getting each other to buy yarn all the time 🥰
Trying to become a sock knitter but so far not loving it. Great podcast, thanks
It really does take time! I knit my first sock maybe 2 years ago, and I’ve only just now become obsessed. It takes a bit but I think its worth it to keep trying. Once it clicks, the joy is complete!! Especially if you can work simple ones in colors that inspire you.
