Whoa…had to come back and respond to that gorgeous blanket! Good on you for changing your mind. I no longer do anything I don’t like in knitting or in life but I’m turning 60 and have finally learned my lesson!
That blanket!!!!! I can’t even get over the beauty beyond! I have been looking at that set but didn’t know what to make with it. Now that I do, I must snag it next time it’s on sale! Stuuuuuunnning job!!! ❤❤
You know I always enjoy your pods very much and this time was no different except for the fact that I am completely blown away by your beautiful blanket!! Wow, it certainly is stunning and I'm now stash diving! Your cardigan is also amazing and you've inspired me to pull out my cardigan to get it finished. I live in Texas where it's really hot so I had put it away...now it's getting down to the 90's (whew) so I can once again knit on it while inside under my fan! LOL Hugs from Texas!!
I am sorry the Alpenglow was a bust, but so glad you found a joy sparking project to pivot to! It’s looking so good! My favorite self striping are- scrumptious purl, the cozy knitter, must stash yarns, and woolens and nosh. I’m actually putting a heel into a sock for Annalie right now using must stash yarns! Yay you for raising a functional human! I mean there is no job more difficult! ❤❤
I totally agree with you about the Cascade 220. I love how it feels in the hand and it has such great stitch definition for texture. Your cardigan is already so gorgeous! Had to pause the video to comment. 😅
I enjoy your podcast so much. I come for the knitting and your reflections on life in general. Something you said here about taking care of ourselves…to include that which brings you joy….what a fantastic reminder that I certainly needed to hear. I’ve been thinking about Stephen West projects lately, so seeing that blanket and what you’re doing with the Linen Quill. Oh my. It’s breath taking.
Hello! Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m so glad you connected with both the knitting and life talk this week. I really think we all feel somewhat guilty when we are prioritizing our own happiness, but when we are filled with true joy we are such a powerful force in the world. Lots of love, I hope you’ve had a great week.
Lena, I re-watched this video because I remember you had started a project with the linen quill minis. You weren’t liking it and switched gears to something you really loved. This is happened to me! I am a new knitter this year and I was going to make the pirouette shawl into a very small blanket for my daughter as a wedding present for next year. I was so excited I got the 20 skin set and found that using the fingering weight single and picking up stitches on the sides of the triangle was not fun at all, and I wasn’t doing a good job of itso I watch this video again and I’m going to try this blanket. It looks at least like more fun than what I was doing I’ll figure out what skins I’m missing because I have the full bloom skin set and go from there. Thank you so much for making this video.
Hi there! I’m so glad you pivoted! There is no need to keep knitting something that is not making you happy. I can’t recommend the Rain or Shine Blanket enough…it is my favorite piece to work on, and it is turning out so beautiful! I just bought another set of minis from Purl Soho to make it bigger. Let me know if you try it and if you enjoy it!! Congratulations to your daughter! What a lovely gift no matter what you make!
@@AnotherKnittingPod, thanks Leena! I’ve begun on the blanket working that corner was very fiddly because I’ve never done it before I’ve never done a Stephen West item but I’ve gotten through it and I’m moving on and I’m about to start the second color. And I’m glad you said that about ordering another set because I don’t know how large I’ll make mine. I guess you can decide by going halfway and then down the other side or just keep going.?…..
Without a doubt, Woolens and Nosh are my most favorite self striping yarn. The yarn itself is a joy-Targhee and her colors are fantastic. Need to get some more!
Love your blanket! Re: picking up stitches at an armhole or neckline. I don't know if you have seen this method, but it's easier to "hit" the right final number of stitches if you divide the circle into segments (like 3 or 4 equal segments) and divide the total number of stitches the pattern tells you to pick up by the same number. Then you are picking up fewer stitches before realizing you could be off track, rather than getting all the way around and coming up with one extra or one short, as you mentioned has happened to you. For example, I just picked up 66 sts around a drop shoulder sleeve which I divided into thirds, so 22 sts by the time I reached marker 1, 22 more between 1and 2 (now 44 sts,) and then the final 22 between the 2 and around to the first stitch I picked up. I stumbled upon this method on Petite Knits video tutorials and have had success with it and thought maybe you would like to know of a way that could ease your "aversion" to picking up stitches on your projects.
Hi Anne! That is my method for picking up stitches too, but its just annoying work isn’t it! It takes forever, and I end up with a cramp in my neck from hunching over. I usually do it standing up and that does help. It’ll be fine once I get going but its just the dread of the thing!
@@AnotherKnittingPod Glad you did know about dividing the circumference into segments. Another thing that helped me immensely has been knitting socks. Picking up stitches with fingering weight yarn on tiny needles along a heel flap has forced me to develop better ways to hold the needles and yarn and how to watch my posture and relax. Now when I do a sweater sleeve pick up, it seems SO easy to me. Happy Knitting. Love your pod❤
I know what you mean…I definitely have no eye towards actually finishing this blanket. It will just unfold slowly over several months, and maybe years!
At all, I am sure there is some rational way to take any project on the way, nicely wrap it, pack it, you know. Like all those little things we invent for ourselves for our own comfort. Hugs✨
Yes look at your blanket!!! I heard you say our podcast name and literally shrieked so loud austin thought I got hurt 🤣🤣🤣 I want to make one too!! I’m glad you love my bubbly blossoms blanket! 🌸🌸🌸
Oh, I am so glad you found a way to use all those colors in one project! So I might have to make a mini one out of all those sets that I have purchased and never used! Linen Quill is on my radar for Andrea Mowry‘s new sweater it’s called right now. I’ve already got my colors picked out, but I haven’t purchased it yet because I have so many other projects going right now. OK, I might’ve already asked you this and forgive me if I did and I can’t remember, but there is a smallish yarn festival in Kansas City in March call the unwind retreat. Are you by chance going? I don’t have any good friends that knit, so I’m looking for friends to hook up with when I get there. I am only attending on Friday. That’s probably quite a drive from Denver, but just thought I would ask .😁
Hi Christy! I have too many projects going on as well. There are so many fantastic ones that I want to knit I can’t go fast enough! I try to remind myself to slow down and enjoy the process. I’m not going to that fiber festival…that is pretty far from Boulder! If I were, I would have totally met up with you!
Always Be Kind yarn is a great choice for self striping yarn in the US. A lot of her profits go towards mental health charities because she lost her daughter to suicide. I really enjoy her yarns but they are a splurge treat for myself because I live in Canada and the shipping costs are ridiculous. She also has stitch stoppers if you are still in the market for them. Her yarn is well made and priced very well. Can’t wait to see what you get. I love knitting socks with self striping. 💜
Another great pod! 🎉 I liked Zauerball Crazy for socks - a little while like Spincycle ( altho not as incredible) with color change but not exactly stripes. Books: you cannot go wrong with anything Liz Moore writes. I have read and loved Heft, God of the Woods, and Long Bright River (which I think you've read). And there's a short novel called Glorious Exploits that I really enjoyed- very different! About two friends in Sicily way back in 400 something BC but the dialogue is all in today's lingo, and it's both hilarious and heartbreaking. It involves putting on a show! 🎉 I am struggling thru color work sleeves with shorties - seemingly never-ending 😢
I know…shorties are tough on the hands. Definitely have to take breaks to make it work. I do find that magic loop + colorwork is a horrible combo! I love Liz Moore so much! I haven’t read Heft, it is on my list! Also Zauberball has always been on my must-try list. I think I will have to get some asap. The colors are so beautiful.
Your hat is adorable on you! Good color choices and I absolutely love your blanket and I may just have to copy you after I finish the 800 WIP's I have going. (just kidding).
Like everyone else....Woolens and Nosh, Freckled Whimsy, Must Stash yarns, and Yarn Jar. Lots of options on Etsy as well. I frogged my Bookclub Cardigan. After reading all the comments on Ravelry I got all discouraged.
For self-striping socks, I like Knit Picks Felici. In the past, they have had a June and November release of colors (they are one-run prints), but they didn’t release new Felici this past year. However, word is that they are bringing it back in November. I loooove Sharp Objects! Did you watch through the credits in the last episode? If not, be sure to go back! If you haven’t seen Big Little Lies (also a limited HBO series), I bet you would like it too. It has so many fantastic actresses!
Yes I heard about that last scene and went back and watched it! I wish they had gone a little deeper into that ending. I wasn’t ready to give up that world. And yes, I did watch BIg LIttle Lies. I liked Sharp Objects better though. It was such a unique and compelling story.
p.s. for great self striping sock yarn, I really like Cascade Heritage Prints and Online Supersock 4-fach Walking Color but there are many great self striping sock yarns.
Your blanket is gorgeous ❤. I had finished reading Remarkably Bright Creatures a couple of weeks ago...this week I watched My Octopus Teacher on Netflix, which was mentioned in the author's note of RBC...a beautiful film, I highly recommend. It felt like I was getting to know Marcellus all over again. Now I've just started the audio version of None Of This Is True by Lisa Jewell, which is off to a good start.
Hi Sandra!! Nice to hear from you! I wore my Shizen the other day and thought of you 😘 I still haven’t watched my octopus teacher. I feel like it will make me sad, because I am over sensitive. If I find out how incredible they are, it will upset me to no end when I see people ordering it at dinner 😑

Great to catch up on what you’re working on. Love that you realised you can change your mind and your new blanket is gorgeous 💚
