Love your updates! I think for your porcelain sweater (which I’ve also been obsessing over!) the red contrast colour would be absolutely beautiful! And since you don’t wear a lot of red, it’s a nice pop of colour without being an all over red garment
I know I already commented twice, but my advice on steeking is to knit a swatch that’s about 10 x 10 and for the Center 3 inches knit as if that is where your steel will be. Then once you so down either side, you can take a deep breath and cut into it a couple of inches from top toward the bottom. If it doesn’t seem like it’s holding, then you can adjust your technique. This way you won’t have fear of ruining your actual garment. This is how my grandma taught us.
Just found your channel. I get when you say you just want to knit all day. So many projects so little time. I think I will call my handknit socks "snocks" from now on LOL
I think the red would be gorgeous in the porcelain sweater! It has really nice contrast. I also have the Agnete Cardigan on my list but I’ve never knit brioche. I’m finishing up a summer project and then it’s all wool for me too. 🙂 I’ve never steeked, but heard practicing on a swatch is really helpful.
Oooh what color do you think you’ll make the Agnete cardigan in?! Thank you for the swatch idea for steeking! That will be so much less pressure to practice with a swatch first ☺️
Big yes to red wine color with porcelain sweater 🎉 I can imagine this sweater could be rich, elegant but still cosy. Perfect for Christmas season one event on Valentine day ❤
I've steeked a copy of cardigans. My tips are to crochet the areas around the steeked row before cutting anything (tutorials are out there for visuals), I crocheted one leg from either side of two neighboring stitches. after blocking, the steeked area lays flat, then I used some thrifted velvet ribbon that coordinated on the button attaching side to sew through for added stability.
I think the red would look amazing for the porcelain sweater, I’m worried the green wouldn’t be enough of a contrast to make that beautiful pattern pop out!
The red would look soooooooooooooooo good as a contrast color! and since you don't use a lot of red it would be a cool way to incorporate that yarn you bought, on a project ☺
Regarding the decreases on your sleeve: i think it makes sense to not decrease around your elbow-- there is so much movement in that joint and a little elbow room ;) is probably for the best! I love that you trusted your intuition on this!
23:09 I FELT THIS!! 😭i knit pretty fast, every day, usually for multiple hours each day.. and i STILL feel like i want to make more things than i can even finish!
I visited the PNW for a month June-July. I loved it! Fiber arts, knitting, weaving and spinning are in abundance. My favorite knitting shop was Hazel Knits in Seattle with her own hand dyed yarns. The weather was wonderful even though, living in the east coast, everyone talks about the rain. We experienced only a few showers and foggy mornings which are common on our coast too. I can’t wait to return and go to a fiber festival! Love your podcast!
Have you thought about the Lyon swtr by Petiteknit for your frogged yarn? It has a European shoulder and fits really well. Also, I’ve knitted the Korshavn cardi and it was great fun to make! Just note it’s quite short in the pattern, so if you’re taller you need to add length. I made mine a tad short. 😜
Hi! Just found your lovely podcast! I vote for the gorgeous red for the porcelain sweater - I think that would look lovely with other green knits as accessories!
Colour work! And red over green - or make two. My friend came to borrow my m/c to steek her sweater...A first for both of us. SO many helpful RUclips tutorials. It was easy peasy (albeit risk free for me), and now I am inspired.
So ready for fall knitting! Currently finishing up on the Marseille Sweater and going to cast on the Eva Cardigan. Btw, if you were wondering about the pronunciation of the Hytte Sweater, it's a Norweigan word that means cabin and the "Hy" is pronounced like the "hy" in the word "Hypocrite" and "tte" is pronounced like the "te" in Technology. Hope it helps!
Hello! Thank you for your lovely video! My vote goes to the petite knitter’s colourwork sweater! Good luck with all of the ripping and re-knitting. Have a great summer xxx
I would definitely vote for the colorwork sweater! I'm making a different thepetiteknitter sweater and it's just so fun and well written! And the red is great, I loved knitting the Porcelain Sweater :)
Yay PNW! I grew up knitting and every time I live away from the Pacific Northwest and I try to knit I feel like I’m gonna die the heat. But in southern California right now and I’m going to try to knit some things for the winter because I’ll be traveling in London in January. Your good vibes will inspire me!
You've probably already decided, but definitely more contrast on the porcelain sweater. I don't think either of those choices are ideal, and the red is reading more rust-like on my monitor. But, that would be the better of the two.
Hi! I am on day 2 of the Billie cardigan. I'm using Cascade 220 non superwash in a washed-out pickle green heather colorway. I'm about 12 rows away from splitting for the sleeves because I can't put it down, lol. Here's some tips I have found useful for both the pattern and charted cable work in general: Use washi tape to keep track of the row you are on in the various charts. Bringing over a technique from Kutokavika--go through and color code your different cables on your charts (and key)- with different highlighters, colored pencils, etc. If you watch her artic light sweater tutorial you'll see what I mean. I'm a left handed knitter- so everything for me is reverse. I wrote beside the key of cables whether my cable needle is in front or back. My m1l and m1r's are also reversed; so I wrote which way to go into the stitch so I don't have to think about it every time I need to preform that action in the pattern. I use a .5mm size larger (than my main needle) short dpn (I think mine are 5") as my cable needle. I find the slighter larger needle holds onto those few manipulated stitches better than other needles I've tried. And the short dpn stays out of your way as you work the remaining cable stitches. It is overwhelming for the first few rows- but the pattern quickly establishes and it's easy to see and follow after that. Good luck-- I think you'll really enjoy making it...I know I am!
I bought the same olive green Eddie bauer yarn and am also making a cardigan! I’m loving the way it’s working up so far. I’m holding 2 strands together to have a chunkier knit but even then, the finished fabric really is lovely. You can’t beat that price point! Edit: typed this before I saw your next project. The porcelain sweater is next up on my list as well! I’ve also been ogling all of the beautiful color combos that people have been coming up with! I can’t wait to make mine for winter
First-time viewer here. I'm also in the PNW near Olympia WA. I am knitting my first steeked cardigan called the Laura Jacket by Camilla Vad. I'm excited for the finished product. My vote is the red yarn for your sweater.
I got that same color of Eddie Bauer line but I got the finger weight cotton. It's turned out beautiful so far, so fingers crossed the wool is just as nice! 💚
That cardigan is going to be beautiful! I have a wrap-style cardigan that I need to unravel because it's too big and I never wear it. I think I used a Fibre Company yarn that is just too nice to sit and not be worn.
I'm making the Korshavn Cardigan right now (literally as I watch this lol) and it's super easy and knits up really quick imo! The pattern is really easy to remember i would reccomend
Steeking really isn't that scary! :D Next time; knit 2 purls, 1 knit and then 2 purls, which will make it even easier to see where to sew, and where to cut. Try it on a swatch first, if you're unsure. I always sew a straight line all the way down - with a tight stich length. Then I do a tight zig zag over the straight stitch - on both sides. And cut in the middle. Easy peasy! If you're unsure on how long you want the cardigan; steek it before you do the ribbing. That way you have the option to knit flat to add length if you want to, before doing the ribbing. Feel free to HMU if you have any questions about it! Loved the video and your vibe. Will stay as a subscriber
When you get into more colorwork knitting, I would love to hear you talk about it more! It looks so fun, but I have so much trouble with tensioning the yarn!
I highly recommend the free pattern called Steek This Coffee Cozy which is a great practice run for steeking. I did it for my first steek cardigan and it helped me nail it the first time.
For the porcelain sweater, I think the rusty red color would be beautiful with the beigey color. It’s not really red and would likely be a better contrast than the green to show up the colorwork.
Personally, I like the maroon and cream combo. Besides, you're going to make the olive green cardigan! Enjoyed your podcast. First time I've watched. Thanks!
Do you happen to have any sock patterns? Or any tips on how to knit socks, or colorwork in general? I'm just starting to learn how to knit and your Halloween socks looked SO CUTE! I want to try to make some for a friend that has a fall birthday!
I'm so happy I found your channel! The more of your videos I watch, the scarier it gets because we are so similar on many points. Don't want to be creepy, but seriously I've been thinking of making my own RUclips channel one day and now I'm thinking I'm just going to be repeating what you already said because we have the same tastes in patterns and yarns and we have a similar lifestyle! 😂 Thank you for sharing everything you do!
I think that the green would be the best choice for your porcelain sweater. Although the red is beautiful, I think the green would go better with your hair colour. And also I like low contrast colour work.
I have steeked several cardigans and always like to needle felt before steeking. Not sure how that will work with your yarn combination though. Sewing with a sewing machine also works well. I have knitted the Billie sweater and it is lovely. Hard on the hands to knit though, and I guess the cardigan version will be even harder.
Ooh I personally love the Red for the porcelain sweater, but if you think you would wear it more with the Green then go with that. Another option could be to alternate the red and green to give it that Christmassy vibe, as the shades you showed complement each other nicely imo, but I imagine that would be a lot more work though. Also I agree on the two white shades you showed being completely different, they’re in the same family but definitely different lol
In the next streaked sweater, when you knit the steak stitches, which should be an odd number of stitches- make the center stitch be the opposite of the other stitches. In other words, if your steak stitches are 5: Knit 2, purl 1, knit 2. You will create a perfect channel for cutting when it’s time to cut.
Don’t let anybody put you off of steeking. It’s done for a couple of hundred years and it’s never caused a problem for anyone. And if you do need to take the sweater apart and use it for something else later, you can use the short pieces for Atz and things like that especially if you’re going to use the pieces to do small color work. And most of the time people don’t take those types of sweaters. They become a timeless piece that just can be repaired over and over.
Hi, ERICA, Try swatching the rust color yarn with the olive color yarn for your colorwork sweater. I know this may be outside your comfort zone, but be brave. You may find that you have more courage in using color in your knitting. It is exciting once you try. Nancy
I am currently making the stripe hype sweater with various shades of the Eddie Bauer wool-paca and so far I really like it. It will be interesting to hear what you think of it.
@@ericataylorcreative I am using bright white for the main color and the stripes on the body from top to bottom will be blue bird, green olive, and royal plum. I’m trying to decide whether to do the sleeves in the green and purple or add two more colors. Today I picked up one each of pale pink, cement, and aqua so I can play around with those. The body is just about finished so I need to decide soon.
Just wanted to remind you: if you steek a sweater, you won’t be able to unravel it to reuse the yarn like you did this time. Because you will have cut the yarn at every row.
Hi Erica -- what is the colorway of the Knitting for Olive yarn you're showing on your sweater at 8:45 ? Their website photography is almost always off, so I count on RUclips videos to really show it. Love the color of yours -- can you tell me both the merino and the mohair colors?
it's always so hard to tell what the colors look like in real life vs. their website! the merino is the color pearl gray and the mohair is the color putty. thank you for watching! :)
i use the chiaogoo twist shorties stainless steel interchangeable set! it depends on the pattern, some call for different size needles for colorwork vs. non-colorwork and others have you cast on extra stitches for the colorwork sections
I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!! LOL please forgive me but i am truly frustrated because ... i have been looking for years online for autumn crocheting and knitting ideas and patterns. The same problems i keep having no matter where i look is, no one uses autumn colors at all .............. i was close to pulling my hair out trying to figure out why is it that no one uses FALL AUTUMN SEASONAL COLORS IN CROCHET AND KNITTING PATTERNS !!! WORSE YET why no one thinks of leaf patterns and pumpkins and kittens and so on ... these are the very basic and fundamentals of autumn nostalgia visually. it is beyond me to this day i am so sad lol , and i go to look for autumn ranges in colors in stores and still HARDLY ANY I COULD SCREAM LOL ugh ... someone please help!

Same!
The red! Looks so good next to your face and hair! Nice little pop of color and a little change for you. Excited to see it.
I agree. I think red is the way to go. A nice little pop since you don’t wear it much
The red it’s a nice contrast and it’s warm and looks good next to your face.
I know I already commented twice, but my advice on steeking is to knit a swatch that’s about 10 x 10 and for the Center 3 inches knit as if that is where your steel will be. The color work sweater is my vote!!! That traditional design is so beautiful and classic and timeless.

I prefer the green for the Porcelain Sweater. I think the lower contrast is elegant and understated.
I’m so impressed by the perseverance of ripping out your yarn, washing, drying it, etc. wow! Side note: I’m also a knitter in the beautiful PNW 🩷

I love the cream and green for the porcelain sweater!
Hello from Vancouver Island! I think the red would be nice for the holidays on the porcelain sweater😊
No def the deep red with the beige ! The contrast is better for sure. Also the red won’t be next to your face so it won’t be hard to wear.
I would definitely go for the red! It would pop soooo good 😍
When you get into more colorwork knitting, I would love to hear you talk about it more! It looks so fun, but I have so much trouble with tensioning the yarn!
i definitely will! the tensioning is tough at the beginning but with practice you'll totally get the hang of it! :)

I think I voted on your story already, but I vote red for the CC for the porcelain sweater! The pattern is also on my fall/winter knit wish list 🤭

I plan to make the Guernsey Genser soon and I think you just saved me from a lot of frustration! Phew
yes! definitely print the corrected chart hahah
Hello from Swansea, Illinois. This is my first time watching your podcast and I subscribed to it. The red would be perfect for the sweater.
thank you so much for watching and subscribing! :)
I think that the green would be the best choice for your porcelain sweater. Although the red is beautiful, I think the green would go better with your hair colour. And also I like low contrast colour work.

thank you for watching! 🤗
I just found your channel and love it!
Red for sure. 😊
Nora of Nora knits recently made the basket weave sweater if you were unaware.

Can you add some hints of red with the tan and green porcelain sweater? Or have you made a sweater for your hubby?
Hi, ERICA,
Try swatching the rust color yarn with the olive color yarn for your colorwork sweater. I know this may be outside your comfort zone, but be brave. You may find that you have more courage in using color in your knitting. It is exciting once you try.
Nancy
Thanks! It's is time to bring on the Sweater Weather ❤
thank you so much!
I like more the red contrast in the Porcelain sweater
Erika, the red will be the ríght one to brighten up your face.
I'm team Snocks!!
hahahaha snocks coming your way!
Personally, I would go for the red but the green is also nice. However, it all depends on what you would prefer wearing!
I am also in the PNW and washed sweaters in the heat. They normally take days to dry, but in 90+ weather, like 4 hours 🤯
One of the perks to the crazy heat! 😂
I have steeked a number of ways and the best and easiest has been needle felting a steek. Look it up, you won't be disappointed!
Would love to hear high level how the steeking goes- I feel like I have a general idea but I’ve never seen it or done it.
I am currently making the stripe hype sweater with various shades of the Eddie Bauer wool-paca and so far I really like it. It will be interesting to hear what you think of it.
Ooh what colors are you making it in? :)

The red for the porcelain
Hello from San Diego, just found your podcast
Just wanted to remind you: if you steek a sweater, you won’t be able to unravel it to reuse the yarn like you did this time. Because you will have cut the yarn at every row.
Go with red for the porcelain sweater :)
You motivated me to do the porcelain in the green and red version….just sayin
With your skin tone you would look beautiful in red !❤

yay pnw!! not this year, but hoping to make it next year!
