    George Jones had the greatest vocal cords ever blessed on a human being. That’s why other singers speak so highly of him. They know because, no one listens to a singer like another singer.

    Iconic George Jones had a tumultuous marriage to iconic Tammy Wynette. The story behind the song is not about death, it's about his marriage, and when he recorded this song they were separated. Grand Tour tears me up every time, it never fails to get right to my heart and actually melt me down emotionally, and women can relate to this song, of a man's great love. It gives me chills every single time. One of the BEST country ballads of ALL TIME. Please look at how many times Grand Tour recorded in 1974 has been performed, copied and emulated!! Countless! This song will live FOREVER and ever... It was voted #38 of Top 40 Saddest Country Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone. It should be number one, it doesn't get any sadder in my opinion!! George Jones did not write the song, a team of 3 involved in producing his music including George Richey, helped write the song. His marriage to Tammy Wynette ended 4 mos. later. Altogether tragic. Thank you for your review, subscribed and liked. I'm a fan now.

      I don't think this is a case where the wife died. I think she divorced him and left taking their baby with her. I don't think he would say about a woman who died in childbirth, "She left me WITHOUT MERCY". If she had died she certainly would have had no choice in the matter and he could not have felt that her leaving constituted a merciless act on her part.

    Allan Jackson(Also a Country music star) once said, (George Jones was just a good'ole Boy when he met him, if you didn't know better you''d think he worked at a gas station down the road)... I think that's how most view him.. Of course though, he did have a dark side when there were times you just didn't want to cross him... Mostly brought out by drinking. He was a chronic Alcoholic and when got bad on the booze, it wasn't a good thing... He overcame that later in life though and had kind of a (second wind) as far as his carrear was concerned... Instead of trying to hide his past, he came to terms with it and wrote some songs about it.. One being "No show Jones"...

    • @TheFarmerfitz
      @TheFarmerfitz 10 месяцев назад

      @RA82828 He was also bad onvthe booze then. A true addict to alcohol. Doesn't excuse his behavior, but it does explain a lot. I know what it is like to be "walking on egg smells around an alcoholic. I grew up with it. A lot of good times, but one had to be careful about what one says, and how, or one can get it...

      "chill you to the bone" "there's her rings, all her things, and her clothes are in the closet.." This ain't divorce. It's Post-partum depression. The wife took her own life, and her baby's."

    • @hammertime615
      @hammertime615 Год назад

      @@Rkenton48 This is an easy call. She left him without mercy. Indicating a intentional act on her part. She left all her clothes and rings, again an intentional indication on her part showing she wants nothing to do with him anymore. She took the baby and his heart, intentionally denying him of contact with the baby. The chill you to the bone is her cruelty, especially after all the love that seemed to exist between them. Your making up this back story of death in child birth...not even a hint of that in the song. The best proof of Jones' meaning is that this was recorded just as he and Tammy were about to separate.

    • @Rkenton48
      @Rkenton48 Год назад

      @@hammertime615 Never said 'death in childbirth'. I said "Post-Partum Depression". And all of the clues are there. Leaving and taking the baby are fairly common place and not enough to 'chill you to the bone'. No woman leaves her husband, taking the baby, and leaves EVERYTHING else behind. "All her rings, things, and clothes"? I stand by my inference, and I dislike being misquoted. Look up Post-Partum Depression, and see what it has made women do to themselves, their babies, and their husbands. THAT is indeed bone-chilling. As a man, I guess you wouldn't know about such things, so look it up and then listen to the song again. It fits the profile.

  • @Rareed63

    You're real perceptive, because when I first heard this song, I thought it was because she just walked out on him but her and the kid were killed in a car accident. the clothes left in the closet her rings on the table (this isn't my take I heard it from a podcast where the guy knew the songwriter) but he intentionally wrote it as people could interpret it the way they wanted to. He also said the majority of people interpret it as she walked out on him so I'm not the only one. You had it from the start where you were talking about chill you to the bone.

    I think it’s about a wife that died during child birth. There was a nursery fro the baby to come home to. Her ring and all her things still there. Like you mentioned chill you to the bone. Death is more fitting. He also says he lost her forever. Meaning it’s final. Divorce isn’t always final and even when it is one of them is hopeful it isn’t. So that isn’t the best way to describe a divorce or wife leaving when he is sad. He would likely be hopeful it isn’t and most don’t think that way. So the evidence suggest wife dying during child birth. It could also be the wife killing the kid then herself but let’s not go that far.

    The extinguishing of a life in comparison to the death of timeless love and family, mmm, sometimes it's not so different. So the wife has enough, takes the baby because he's a no good drinking cheater. At which point he wakes up for a moment to bemoan his plight . . . although I would bet he is lip dancing drunk while telling the tale. Which takes nothing away from the song, because it's George. You already did Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes, right?

    There is ZERO to indicate she/he were unhappy....quite the opposite. Also he says all her things, including her clothes are there. It's painful, but quite clear...she died in childbirth as well as the child.
