So We Got A Call!

  • So we got a call for a Can-Am side by side, it had ripped the front right wheel off. They were way out in the middle of the Arizona strip desert. They had tried towing it, but weren't able to get it very far with the ball joints being broken. They gave us the GPS coordinates of the wash they left it in and the "best" directions to get there. We probably should have waited until the next morning! We left in the evening and were gone until midnight. We made a few really stupid mistakes that could have been disastrous. 1; we didn't load the spare for the Jeep on the trailer. (Arizona strip is infamous for eating tires). 2; we didn't tell anyone where we were going. 3; we didn't bring enough food or water. 4; we didn't bring extra gas... Having the 2nd Jeep would have saved us if something did go wrong, so that was good!

Jason here! What a night! My wife and kids and I ate like royalty. We had a 5 course meal while in our jeep. We sang songs and listened to an entire audio book - The Box Car Children audio series. We had no idea those crazy cats in the yellow banana were rationing supplies. We had leftovers tho spare.
Also, not pictured is our 18 month toddler who was a trooper the entire time.
Our 5 year old never was convinced that Ed is "The Real Ed". Ed is the real deal through and through.
Randy did an amazing job capturing the events of the night with his camera.
Trevor is a long time friend of Matt's. They go way back. Old friends for life for sure!
I have a 2000 XJ Cherokee classic with a 4.5 inch lift and 33 inch tires. It's permanently locked up front and rear with 4.88s gearing. Yes it tops out at about 45mph but is a fantastic rock crawler for these parts.
My daughter who drew the picture wants to be a professional artist. Thanks for the encouragement. I'll pass it on to her.
My wife is an amazing explorer and wondered why we went the long way the whole time! Ha! Gents - listen to your wives! She read all the signs!
It was a great April fools joke to go the long way!
A night to remember for sure!
After we got back to the yard I realized I gave my wife the keys to drive the Jeep home tell Randy had to give me a ride to my house and then all the way back to the yard. It extended the adventure by another hour and a half.
I'm honored to be part of this amazing crew moving forward! (Consulting) www.screenpromote.com

@@pnwRC. You hit that right on the nail head... "Reality" TV! I watched part of a show, with my dad, on Homesteading in Alaska. They had a tractor with a backhoe on it, a Bobcat, and 4-wheel ATVs running all over the place. My dad loudly stated, "That's just BS!!!!!!"
We homesteaded 160 acres in Alaska, the late 1940s thru the late 1950s, until the Army transferred us back to the 'States. Alaska was till a Territory then. With an old surplus Army 6X6 truck and a couple of axes, my parents and a neighbor (5 miles away) cleared enough to prove up on the claim. There were NO TV crews in sight!!

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
Of a road that's dark and deep,
That started in a red rock town
    Aboard a yellow Jeep
Now, Matt is a mighty towing man,
His beard is red and true.
Five passengers drove off that night
For a little job to do, just a little job to do.
The dirt road started getting rough
    The yellow Jeep was bounced,
If not for luck and his 1st class crew
The Banana would be trounced, the Banana would be trounced.
The Banana proved it's ruggedness and the Can-Am was recovered
    With Matt and beard
    Plus Famous Ed
    Jason and his wife
    3 little girls
    Trevor and Randy cameraman

I am constantly amazed at how Matt is able to tow a trailer up a road that barely qualifies as a goat trail. Matt's driving skills are unmatched by any driver that I ever met. I am postulating that the Can-Am hit a rock and broke a possibly Dry ball joint (Lack of lube), this allowed the steering knuckle to rotate precipitating total suspension failure. It is great to see your friends, cameramen, family ride along and watching the dogs run is always a pleasure. Great content, thanks for sharing with people around the planet.

I agree with your point. The end result of an operator's poor judgement is not the machine's fault. They do have a light duty suspension though for something this heavy that can go that fast off road.

Matt, you should modify your trailer (I'm sure you've heard that 1000 times) to include a 3rd ramp. I think you have room for it, and it would allow you to use one under each wheel and the 3rd under whatever the lowest body/suspension part is. Would also allow flexibility when you really need to switch from one spot to another halfway through loading. Just an idea... Great videos and I really enjoy watching.

Those three little country girls are gonna grow up fine, surrounded by rural family love and good old country upbringing with these adorable hicks. When these girls finally make it to college someday, they're gonna kick ass and outsmart any every slick mealy-mouthed city girl out there, and they'll have priceless stories to tell about a grampa Ed and so many uncles Matt, Jason, Trevor, Erik, etc. back home in country. This channel REALLY makes you feel good about old conservative Americana..and it doesn't even have one molecular bit of politics in its entire content. Trust me, it's not gonna take too long before the Smithsonian Institute takes notice. Great job, Winder Towing!
