I'm a NSW fan but the only people trying to excuse Sua'lii's tackle are just diehards or bogans who would still be in Disneyland if they were on the receiving end. Sua'lii's "tackle" showed exactly why shoulder charges were banned in both rugby codes twelve years ago. It's because they can go badly wrong if the ball-player player even slightly changes direction or height, which is a high possibility. Even in soccer if you leave the ground and jump into a tackle - ie lose control - it's an automatic red card. Sua'lii' launched himself like a missile, shoulder first, which is illegal, so there is simply no argument left of "he moved, so it wasn't my fault". It was totally his own fault, and he's a lucky boy that Walsh didn't break his neck. And as for Maguire, I'd hoped we were getting a new way of thinking, but his comments even today make it clear that he still thinks it's the 70s. He is making Tommy Raudonikis sound like a Rhodes Scholar.

That was a good comment. The NSW coach was even trying to compare the Walsh cheekbone fracture incident in the same category. Does he think we are stupid or is it that he is unable to accept responsibility for way one of his players tackled. I would like to bet that he chose Suaalii to do the job that got him into trouble.

For effing crying out loud, why is no one saying that this ruling is just wrong. You're penalizing a team for poor judgement from a single player. It's bloody disingenuous saying the losing side put up a spirited effort despite the fact that they were severely lobotomized by the ruling. It wasn't worth watching, even if the winning team looked like the better team - we'll never know now since the game was essentially over after the ruling. Yes, send off the offending player, and if the tackle was malicious ban him for life. If not, punish him according to what was fitting according to the circumstance - a fine and however many weeks/months/years he is to be suspended from the game. But replace him on the field with someone of much lower ranking. Punish the offending player, disadvantage the offending team, just don't do something as extreme as this, that the game may as well have been called off at the 7 minute mark. I agree with the refs decision, just not with the actual law itself.

Why is people crying over sua'ali'i tackle ref was clear shoulder makes dangerous contact to head red under league A Reckless High Tackle is when a defending player makes forceful contact with the head or neck of an attacking player. The high contact will be deemed reckless when a player foresees high contact before or during the action of a tackle and carries on with the tackle regardless of that risk. A player may “foresee” high contact when starting (or even during) a tackle even if he closes his eyes or looks away at the last moment.

because NSW as a state need something to pin their angers and frustrations on. Remember they have been seething for 12 months and had a year to sort it out. With pretty well the majority of the comp to choose from, they keep fielding a team that leaves NSW as a state depressed more then they were prior and I dont think thats healthy. We see this every year, they end up eating themselves up from the inside and the cycles thus repeats. its so predictable at this point. It may cost them 2-3 series in a row per cycle but its a price they are more then willing to pay. This is the point where you realize the stark contrast in the values that both states place in the phenomena that is origin.

QLD should start selecting shorter and shorter players and have them slide into the ground every time they run and pass the ball. Make any "legal" tackle require a knee in your face or a mouthful of grass.

If he doesn’t slip he doesn’t get knocked out. If he doesn’t get knocked out he doesn’t get sent off. If he doesn’t get sent off blues win easily. If blues win easily Sportsbet loses millions
