Reminds me of when i was #1 performer on both shifts in my warehouse for 4 months straight by 30-40% productivity i was getting free shit every day clothes food bonuses money towards their merchandise, i got employee of the month twice and a badge to wear that they hadnt awarded anyone in years called the unsung hero, then one day my body gave out and i mentally was not willing to do it anymore after about a year, and my % wasnt where it needed to be, they told me if my % doesnt go back up i was 2 weeks from being canned so i walked out, i bled, borderline foamed at the mouth for that company, i still have a black toenail from someone lowering a pallet onto my foot while i was placing a 160lb waterheater, and all it took was my % dropping for them to completely forget about everything i had ever done for thr company
YOu created too high of an expectation. You should have performed from the beginning at a rate that you could continue. In their eyes you were a good worker until you started smoking crack.

Sure they will make you feel special by giving you small gifts and giving you compliments in front of everybody but at the end once you are gonna be broken they will just swap you for the next young guy who is ready to burn himself for them. It is better to give 98% so that each day you can recover and continue for years. I once had a job loading groceries at a distribution plant. There was a man 60 years old that had been working there for almost 40 years. He kept up with the young guys. Each person had to load 20,000 lbs or more each night. He had it right. He did just what he needed to do to get the job done and he was able to do that continually. He didn't burn out like a shooting star.

I do all the time. I know that 99% of those guys can drive and not hit anything... I can't say the same for most people without a CDL tho. And as long as you don't have music playing or it's very low volume they make great earplugs.
I grew up surrounded by asphalt worker i worked with my dad as a baby when he had his own business and then when my brother had his own business. My neither brother died i never worked on asphalt again.
Did this for ten yrs prep crew and paving crew. Sometimes on long stretches of road, it was an easy day if all went well. But there are times when paving where the shoveler or laborer and the Luteman earn every cent they make for the entire yr on one job. Also on a side note I worked with one hell of a Luteman that alone can save everyone time and energy. And of course, the guys running the paver know what they are doing if not your really screwed.
I paved and my boss made us use coal shovel basically a snow shovel, and if you didn't fill it he'd kick it out of your hands...That was a tough summer but I still love the smell of fresh asphalt...

Long handled shovels are primarily for milling, if your doing asphalt get wider shovels? Better for fanning and will hold more than those two shovels combined

I the UK we have wheel barrows. Theyre a tub with a wheel at the front and 2 handles. You can put stuff inside and transport it wherever you want. You can then pick the stuff out, shovel it, or even tip it.
If you are a young person seeing this feeling some type of way about your career I cannot recommend hopping into a skilled trade like plumbing or electrical enough. You will always have a good job, anywhere you go.

That's because roads can only be paved to a certain point under freezing conditions, that's why here in Canada the majoirty of roadworks are done in the summer.
Some of you don’t realize that they maybe did a 4 inch mill with a coarse load of asphalt going down and the driving surface later. See them do it on the highway all the time. So not the paver operator error it’s what the job entails
