@@raymotv1 I felt the same way about my 2001 4Runner. However, it was getting harder and harder to find conventional oils in my area. So, I went in the middle and use a synthetic blend. No leaks whatsoever and my runner has 200k on it. I think I'll just stick with that set up from here on out.
Scotty reminds me of my old shade-tree mechanic, Joe. Wore the same uniform w/some visible chest, same hair, humor, passion & honesty. Superb work, reasonable price. Dying breeds, due to automation & factory changes.
Valvoline full synthetic. never had a problem and after the last time I disassembled my engine (not because of the oil), everything was still in great shape.
The only problem is NOW alot of brands including Valvoline are getting expensive. Valvoline used to be like 24$ but NOW it's like 31 at Wal-Mart. The cheapest one before the "super tech" is Pennzoil being around 27$ yet super tech is like 24-26 NOW
@@T3l3MuNd0 Just buy the Super Tech oil. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. As a bonus, you'll be able to do four oil changes with Super Tech for the price of three using name brand oil.
Thank you for this video.... I went to change my oil and was being pushed to switch to synthetic oil. But I have a 2003 jeep liberty with almost 200,000 miles. Ive been using the same conventional oil and only had problems when my valve cover gasket needed replacing. Now with that fixed I'm not burning through oil like I use too. Like my grandpa said "if its not broke, dont fix it" I purchased my jeep in 2012 and have done all of my own oil changes myself. Ive never had any problems nor do I want to start messing up my engine because someone is trying to up sale me... I love your energy and information you put out there. Thank you
Scotty confirms what I've been doing for 20 years, buy the cheapest synthetic oil (with the right specs) and change once a year as our cars don't drive much. Never had any issues.
I switched to synthetic at 160k miles and it did cause the engine to leak way more, but it gave me the excuse to learn how to work on my own car and replace the leaking gaskets. I'm glad I switched to synthetic.
Ive been working at Valvoline for the past year or so, and have been talking to customers about which oil to use. If you drive a basic old honda civic, theres no need to use synthetic oil. Those engines mostly run a long time anyway. You would be wasting money with full synthetic. But if you drive a brand new civic, its gonna want you to use synthetic blend, or full synthetic. In that case, use either or. The car was made for that type of oil and the engine performs best when using 0w20. In my 1999 7.4l truck, i use full syn. Trucks are made to work. And i want to make sure its getting the best protection while working.
Thank you Scotty. I changed my own oil in my vw(mobile one FS) and I went past the 8 thousand mile. I was freaking out thinking my car was gonna die but now I know I can push it a bit further. I love doing oil changes on my car. Super easy on this 07 Jetta.
VW are junk. Had one till a water pump went and would had to pay over 1200 to rip the engine and front end apart to get to it. Sure good running cars but they break you pay and good luck finding a mechanic to fix it. 3 mechanics refused to touch it cause they know its garbage and a real job. Thank the lord I paid 500 bucks lasted a year. Now its in the junk yard where it belongs.
I don't know anything about cars, so I learned something new today, and it may very well be one of the most important lessons I will ever learn about cars.
Old cars with flat lifters and high pressure valve springs need an oil with adequate levels of ZDDP. All oil at one time had ZDDP in it, but it was found that it destroyed catalytic converters, so car manufacturers were forced to change from flat lifters to roller lifters to eliminate the need for ZDDP. Modern oils DO NOT have enough ZDDP in them for old cars and I have personally seen many camshafts worn down to round lobes in 2500 miles as a result. If you have an old car, be sure to find out if you need that kind of oil and if so, Valvoline VR-1 is a suitable oil.
Scotty, your advice on the PCV valve in my Murano was bang on, it was clean, but worn out and stuck and it had high blow by, after i changed it, no blow by out the filler cap was evident, and the oil leakage stopped.
I don't know how many times I try and tell people the correct oil for the engine is so important I have done videos on this but you still people don't listen another great video Scotty you're the man
Hey Scotty Kilmer . My name is Andrew . I Live in NC , I just wanted to tell you I used your Checklist to the T , When going to look at 2013 Honda Civic EX to purchase on 6/26/20 . Everything you mentioned about this Vehicle was True and Checked out . Thank You !!! I ended up buying this Car
For my current vehicle, I used 10w40 conventional oil for summer. For winter, I use 10w30 conventional. After 250,000 miles, I started using 15w40 conventional oil for summer. For winter, I stayed at 10w30 conventional oil. Oil changes are done every 3000 miles and I do it myself. Never trust a, "professional," to do it right.
@@666dynomax It is a vintage vehicle requiring thinner oil in winter and thicker oil in the hotter months. Tolerances were not as tight as today. The vehicle will have blow-by in summer if 10w30 is used in the hotter months. In winter 15w40 will make it difficult to start in our very harsh winters. This practice was once very common. The engine in my vehicle was developed in 1952 by Kaiser Motors, later to be updated by AMC. It has more in common with a tractor engine than a car engine. The vehicle I drive daily is not for everyone. But it does have 426,000 miles on the odometer and climbing. I do not think I could get 26 years of service and that many miles out of a modern vehicle with a modern drivetrain.
@@indridcold8433 ahhh gotcha... time for the Rotella ;) All kidding aside I actually really like Rotella in my ATV and dirtbikes... Used to be a Mobil1 man and have switched completely to pennzoil synthetiesn cars, truck, and snowmobiles. for gear oil I use amsoil exclusively. and I quit trusting professionals a long time ago...
Basically I was told by a former heavy truck engineer , Sythentic oil molecules are smaller or lubricate better although this makes it easier to skip past seals and gaskets and I have seen the same in my experience as well .
On older engines, synthetic oil is a problem, because the oil breaks down depositos quickly, and these go al around the engine, causing trouble. There could also be some of those deposits that seal off a leak. You put synthetic, it washes it away, and oil will leak.
I use Amsoil in both my cars. I've been using it since the early 80s. Have had amazing results. Even when one car tried to do milkshakes by diluting coolant into the oil via a bad head gasket. The Amsoil stood up and protected the engine. When the dealership did a campaign on the car and put in their own Kendral 2, the engine blew that afternoon after I got it back. I've never used anything else since.
@@AcmeRacing I find the Amsoil very easy to get. Just go online on their site and place an order. I get my orders within about 2 business days most. You can even have it dropped shipped to a different address.
@@Sandy-oy2lr Ordering direct isn't hard, but Mobil 1 is on the shelf today. So is Amsoil at my friend's house... he has three GM trucks similar to mine, so he stocks them.
I have a 1999 Expedition with the 5.4 and I've used Pennzoil Full Synthetic 10w30 with a motorcraft oil filter, replace it every 4,500-5,000 miles and no issues at all. Very good synthetic oils help for daily drivers who drive highway a lot
Oil is important, and I only use FULLY synthetic, but the really important item is the filter. There are HUGE differences in oil filters and if the filter doesn't work correctly, or it becomes clogged, you will not know it until it's too late.
Thank you for the vid. They are always appreciated and informative. I run highway and put 15 to 20 thousand miles a year on a car. My wife does the same too. I change my own oil I do about 7 to 10 thousand miles with Vavoline or Mobil 1full synthetic and a honda filter for my wifes crv and mopar filter for my ram or a mobil 1extended performace filter for either one. I figure that since I don't take it somewhere i buy good oil, but my cars I've had since new and always run full synthetic.
I bought Supertech oil 5w20 high mileage convential by mistake. With a Fram Ultra Synthetic filter. When I got done changing oil. I didn't panic. Just changed to 5W20 high mileage full synthetic after 3,000 miles. The oil still looked great. When I started the motor up. The motor sounded like it really liked the Supertech synthetic. It sounded like a new engine running. I have 165,000 miles on it. Didn't see much differents in gas mileage. Shawn
@@bluesky-ud9wg there is a guy on RUclips called Project farmer. He did a test on Supertech vs many reputable brands and there was no performance difference, all did well.
I like using STP 10w-30 conventional in my sbc. Been working great!! Some people have asked me to use synthetic but that might not actually work for my car.
My truck uses synthetic blend that how I bought it 350k miles..I did the oil change 2 times and drive it daily..it started making a ticking noise /knocking so I’m goi g with stp conventional oil because it’s thicker
I always use synthetic. Used conventional once and engine started leaking. Went back to synthetic. Less leaks now. I say, if you buy a used car you have no idea what they used so use synthetic. Iv seen more issues with people moving back to conventional oil rather than switching to synthetic!
+David Crandall I avoid the ten minute & jiffy places. I highly doubt they apply all the fluids correctly or check all the vehicle issues. go to a AAA place or shop with trained staff.
Why not go to Jiffy Lube? Because Jiffy Lube is generally a shithole with garbage products. As for buying at WalMart, my parts store is less expensive than WalMart and carries better product.
DL Lambert - I know of several in and out /quick change oil change franchises that hire extremely well trained staff (many are certified mechanics with decades of experience) and they only use very high end oil products and filters. Don't paint the world with such a broad brush.
Normally, that's something to agree with. If you're using the "bypass" oil filter which is much more dense, maybe not (depending on what equipment and oil you're using.)
The reason for changing your oil at least once a year is because condensation inside the engine creates water which mixes with unburnt hydro carbons to create acids which eat up your bearings. So if you never drive 20,000 miles in a year then a 20,000 mile oil is not your best value. If you do drive that much in a year then this oil could be worth it one change a year vs maybe 4 or 5 with conventional oil. If you leave the oil in your engine over 1 year then the acid buildup will cause erosion of soft metal parts in the engine such as bearings.
My brother put mobile 20,000 miles oil in his car and he went over 20,000 miles and the car started burning it and of course he did check the oil until the low oil light came on and now he needs a new engine
I work at OReilly Auto Parts and from what I've experienced you have to go with their oil specials in order to get a good deal but I get it from Wal-Mart regardless lol

If it`s crazyi to you it is crazy . However I have an inlaw that back in 87 changed mobil in his Mitsubishi Everest 10 thousand whith a cheap oil filter he bought new and drove it over 400,000.miles tor down engine hatch Mark's on cylinders still there. It did leak oil however.
My Odyssey lets me know when it is due for an oil change. It averages about every 9,000 miles. I am now over 100,000 miles on the vehicle. Full synthetic only, and oil change is based on how it is driven. More often for short trips, cold days and higher speeds.
Different engines shear the oil differently, a Lexus 4.3 or 4.0 or yota 4.7 v8 back when they used timing belts wer so easy on oil they would easily do 10k intervals, but a Nissan vq35 in contrast shears oil badly and needs much more frequent changes.
Yep. We put the recommended 5W40 synthetic oil in our MB E320 since 2003 and changed the oil every 10k miles as recommended. We used a fleece filter and once the oil had the 229.3 approval on it then it was approved by MB for use. Engine is slick and ultra clean inside.
Stop and go city driving use conventional oil reason being the engine oil temp is more prone to experience condensation which in turn creates more acid build up conventional oil handles this much better and is more cost efficient in this case. Synthetic as you say for long haul and severe cold weather ops , oil is always running up to temp and crank case condensation is minimal if at all .
I changed from conventional oil to synthetic blend. I did 3 oil changes every year one every 3000-3500 or four months now i do 2 one every 5k or 6 months.
the majority of youtube channel trailers are so painfully boring void of life that focuses on flashy names and spinning title letters, mostly get X'd before the video even starts. not on yours scotty, you nailed that one. it's as cool as the rest of your quality videos.
I have an 08 impala that recommends 5w-30 right on the cap. Now I followed that when it had a lot fewer miles but now it has over 210,000 on its so I’ve recently switched to 10-40 which I change every 6,000 miles. With 5w-30 I noticed she was starting to burn about a quart and a half every 3,000 miles or so. That’s when I decided to switch to a thicker oil to occupy more of that space that has worn in due to normal wear & tear over its lifespan. I’ve been using fully synthetic keeping my oil changes between 6-7k miles and the car seems happy and keeps going. 👍🏻
I'm a witness to the case. Decided to use synthetic. In less than a month I needed more than two quarts. Now it needs about a quart every 3 days. I guess the solution might be change the oil and put regular oil in
My friend used Amsoil before Mobile1 and others came out he had a diesel truck. had the Oil Spectro Analyzed at 15000 miles. there was No Break down . it looked dirty but it was all carbon suspended. A good Filter is whats needed and maybe change it at 5000 and the oil at 10-12 thousand Ive had not 1 problem in 4 vehicles doing this.
Hi Scotty , I don't drive a lot of miles 1000@ year and don't change my oil yearly , won't change anything until I get at least 3 or 4 thousand miles ( synthetic oil ) I don't worry about it because heavy equipment sits for long periods and they are hard on their oil and go a very long time between changes.
When I was 18 and did my first oil change I used synthetic , went away on deployment then my father changed it not knowing I used synthetic he used regular, when I returned I changed the oil again not knowing he used regular till after the fact , have alternated many time engine does not miss a beat have had the car drive it regularly for 25 years , everything else has fallen apart but engine runs perfect lol
I grew up maintaining our car from mustang'65, F escort '69, Toyota Corona, Corollas, Tacoma, Camrys. Just follow the recomended car oil change from owners manual, and equally important check your oil regularly, the level and if it is dirty already or not w/ clean cloth. Specially if your going for a long drive. You car will last veryx2 long. Imo.
5w-xx will do just fine depending on what car you have, I use Castrol Magnatec 5W-40 instead of 10W-40 (what the owner's manual recommends) and the engine starts effortlessly in the winter and sounds better when on idle. Put in 10w-40 and it sounds like a sowing machine after a cold start.
I've been changing my oil every 20,000 MI for the last 27 years and I've never had a problem.. I've never had a motor go out or even smoke for that matter and I always drive my cars well over 250,000 miles. I added it up the other day and the amount of money I've saved in oil changes would pay for a motor three times over
Yeah the truth is… lots of people go that far or much farther lol. Some run totally dry… I’ve seen Honda’s driving on seemingly no oil for quite a while lol! If you change it say very 15,000 miles you’re probably still doing better than many.
Just bought a 5 qt jug of STP SYN Full Synthetic 5W20 motor oil with a 10,000 mile ( i'll change at 6,000) STP Extended Life filter for $25.99 at Autozone ... Great deal and both the oil and filter are top quality.
Is it true that it’s a bad idea to go from conventional right to synthetic in one change? I’ve been told you have to introduce synthetic by using semi-synthetic first a few times, so the engine gets used to it.
I switched my 97 Camry to a synthetic high mileage blend (200k)(Castrol) been loving it since! I had the opposite happen my leak and burn were better than before! Though he could be right in most other cases 🤷🏻♂️ But I still baby the oil changes for love (not too much less than what Scotty said here) ❤️
Oil doesn't "wear out" unless it gets "cooked" by overheating. It just gets dirty. For older cars that don't need synthetic oil, look for re-refined oil from a reputable company. The DoD uses it in their land vehicles and in ships. It often is cleaner (less ash) than new oils.
True ... but it's additive package can get depleted ... the anti-wear adds get used up and the detergents/dispersants get overloaded by the byproducts of combustion and are unable to keep the engine clean. Same for the additives fighting acids in the crankcase.
I've been changing my oil on multiple vehicles and other engines (bigger and smaller) for 30 years. All thing being equal/similar, synthetic oil keeps engine cleaner and smoother running. I wouldn't go by run more miles/hours on syn because you can. Just change it at due intervals and you are good. Switching to syn oil on old engine is a bad idea though.
Hi Scotty, I really hope you could answer my question. I have a 2004 toyota Camry XLE six cylinder. I have always used the best synthetic oil. I went to get my oil changed and asked them to put the synthetic oil in it. Well they charged me only 29.99 and right there I knew something was seriously wrong. Long story short, they used conventional oil. Now my car does not run like it did. It's been almost 3,000 miles, and I would like to get it changed with synthetic oil again, but I just watched this video and I'm a bit nervous. I did call them right back and asked if they could change it again to what I asked for I would pay the difference, and he said that it wouldn't make a difference. Can I go back to synthetic so my car will drive smooth again?
I remember back when I started working on cars myself and could get oil for $1.88 a quart. Now I just buy the big 5 quart jug for like $30 so when I change my oil, I have about a quart or so left in case it gets low between the next oil change.
I change the oil in my car with 100 % vegetable oil which I buy from a supermarket... I offen use Capri (yeah, the oil you can use for your kitchen) but recentely I changed it to olive oil 100% virgin oil and now runs perrrrfect !!! Change it every 3,000 miles for a better performance...
My 99 Chevy Silverado 5.3 has close to 250,000 miles, burns about half a quart every 3000 miles which is when I change it. I was debating switching over to 10-30 synthetic, but now I know not to. Thanks Scotty.
Try Valvoline’s Premium Blue in your Cummins. Valvoline is the oil motor oil recommended by Cummins and Valvoline work hands on with Cummins. Every Cummins engine is first filled with Valvoline Premium Blue.
recently i saw a video, why not to switch from regular oil to mobil one,, they are old fables not refuse to die, i drove a old with 122,000 miles on it ,changed oil every 3,000 mike with castrol gtx, then i decided to put in mobil one, what a huge improvement, cleaned the engine , wow. started so much easier, better mileage, No Leaks Anywhere.
I have a Honda Civic 2000 I went Castro conventional. Then Castro magnetic which is going synthetic, then Castro edge also full synthetic It’s been 1yr & 2 months no problems also recommend synthetic Lucas oil stabilizer!
Scotty, you do realize that only amsoil is a real synthetic oil, amsoil is a group 4 oil that has a synthetic oil base, mobile one and all other full synthetic oils are a group 3 oil, and that means that the oil is made from a crude base. So full synthetic oil is just regular conventional oil with some additives. That is why amsoil says and is 100 percent synthetic. Full synthetic is just a legal marketing term that allows companies to falsely mislead you.
Untrue. Mobil lost in court by taking on the other companies. Mobil 1 is class 5, as is Amsoil. You can actually find this on an Amsoil site, where Amsoil sided with Mobil on this issue and praised their product. The ruling allowed other manufacturers to call their oil synthetic, even if it was based on regular oil. Mobil and Amsoil both lost on this decision.
Not true ... Pennzoil Platinum says right on it: "Made from natural gas" a true PAO Group IV oil! Even the other ones are Group III ... hydrocracked crude which is still better than Group I or II.
Changing oil is very important. I studied which oil is best. refined from crude is best unless you drive in harsh circumstances (colder weather or high mileage). Oil filters are different for long life oil changes. They are made of fiberglass instead of cardboard. I change oil when the oil shows contamination or waste build up, typically a darker brown color. For diesel engines that are super duty require oil that is like 15/40 or 5W40 synthetic, it's made to go 60K miles between changing and you need severe service filters to go with it. Sometimes it's more important to change filters than oil. don't go every other change with filters, it's best to go with monthly changes or 5-6K unless you use mobile one or delvac one (silver) for diesel synthetic. I also as a quart or gallon for big trucks with a 40 qt capacity.
Thanks, Scotty, that's what I was wanting to know about the full synthetic oil I recently switched to for my last oil change...when it will need changing again. Full synthetic is better than a blend, yeah?
I just bought a Brandywine 2009 Lexus RX 350 with 96,600 miles. First owner always had dealership service it and they used conventional. Second owner had it for 2.5 years and had their mechanic always use full synthetic. I plan to continue with full synthetic, even though the dealership strongly urged to continue with conventional. My reasoning? My other '09 RX 350 (Bamboo Pearl) started getting full synthetic (by me) at 70K miles and I've never had one problem - it now has nearly 140K miles on it and runs QUIET, smooth with LOTS of power. (why do I have two '09 RX 350's? Because the opportunity arose to buy the color that I originally wanted and I haven't had time to sell Bamboo yet - LOVE the reliability of these Lexus RXs) No problems at all going 10K between full synth changes.
If you decide to extend your oil change interval do not cheap out on the oil filter. I have seen oil filters that have self destructed around 5-7 thousand miles.
Hey Scotty, I'm cheap 😂. I have a 1995 5.2 liter Jeep grand Cherokee. It has 136,000 miles. Runs very well. We do a lot of short in town driving. I change only the filter at 2,500 miles, then at 5,000 change oil and filter. Is this a good practice?
Good info video..one thing to add-synthetic is NOT always better-garage fixed a leak on my A/T (1996 SATURN SC2). They refilled the transmission with synthetic-two weeks later the transmission was shifting horribly-delayed engagements, hard upshifts. A mechanic friend advised me to replace with conventional Dextron III-I did, and the problems went away.
You should always use the exact transmission fluid recommended for your car. Changing it to anything else will cause transmission issues like you experienced.

Ditto, but my toyota yaris has held up pretty well, Gasket changing at 400K.

I just found this STP synthetic at my local auto parts store. About 40% less than the synthetic brands I normally purchase. I am going to try it out.
I just love the introduction so much. It’s the best
What oil would you recommend for a 07 Seat Cordoba 1.4 TDi?
Thx Scotty even after 50 years you still the best!!
I don't know anything about cars, so I learned something new today, and it may very well be one of the most important lessons I will ever learn about cars.
We all love you Scotty. Somebody who knows different say otherwise. You’ve taught me SO SO MUCH.
What's ZDDP ?
Scotty, your advice on the PCV valve in my Murano was bang on, it was clean, but worn out and stuck and it had high blow by, after i changed it, no blow by out the filler cap was evident, and the oil leakage stopped.

Why are you playing around with viscosity like that
@@666dynomax It is a vintage vehicle requiring thinner oil in winter and thicker oil in the hotter months.
Good point, I ALWAYS use synthetic and now am having, ok, well, the car does have almost 400K on it so thats going to be inevitable at some point.
They are more consistent in shape, not smaller molecules. Hydrocarbons are still hydrocarbons...
I use Amsoil to help a friend keep his dealership active, but if I would go to Mobil 1 if he stopped selling it, just because it's easier to get.
@@AcmeRacing I find the Amsoil very easy to get. Just go online on their site and place an order. I get my orders within about 2 business days most. You can even have it dropped shipped to a different address.

You're goofy as a grape but your videos are the most straight forward and to the point videos that I've seen. Keep up the good work!
Get oil at Walmart.. Not auto parts stores.. much cheaper
If you have someone change it, it will cost $15 more so why not just go to jiffy lube.

Walmart Super Tech full synthetic is great oil for the money.
I remember running into Scotty in Houston at my old Vietnamese cafe that's closed since!!
It's not always about the price, I always use Castrol edge it is pricey for 4-5L but it's worth very good for the engine
20,000 mile oil change ?!!! Folks...oil and filters are just too cheap. Motors aren't.
My friend recently changed to 20,000 mile oil changes for his Nissan Titan, and Hyundai Sonata. I don't know how that will go.
Good advice bub

My Odyssey lets me know when it is due for an oil change. It averages about every 9,000 miles. I am now over 100,000 miles on the vehicle. Full synthetic only, and oil change is based on how it is driven. More often for short trips, cold days and higher speeds.
@@keithtomlin4649 I'm not exactly sure what you said but I agree!
Different engines shear the oil differently, a Lexus 4.3 or 4.0 or yota 4.7 v8 back when they used timing belts wer so easy on oil they would easily do 10k intervals, but a Nissan vq35 in contrast shears oil badly and needs much more frequent changes.

Scotty good to see you're doing well.
When it comes to oil changes, Scotty is the expert!

And what's happened to the oil consumption?
But if you start your car in cold weather, you need that 5W for easier starting.
I would stick with 5w30, there is tight spaces in engines these days, you go thicker those spaces wont get lubed and wear out.
Honestly 5w-40 would be the safest option to reduce the consumption. Remember that the higher the W number, the thicker the oil when cold.

Specially if your going for a long drive.

0Wxx is a must in any car in northern winters
5w-xx will do just fine depending on what car you have, I use Castrol Magnatec 5W-40 instead of 10W-40 (what the owner's manual recommends) and the engine starts effortlessly in the winter and sounds better when on idle. Put in 10w-40 and it sounds like a sowing machine after a cold start.
I live in Canda and we get -40 weather up here. 5W and 10W are just fine as long as you plug in your block heater when it actually gets that cold.

Though he could be right in most other cases 🤷🏻♂️
But I still baby the oil changes for love (not too much less than what Scotty said here) ❤️
Toby Blowhole I switched my 99 ES300 at 260,000 miles and haven’t looked back either. Synthetic is the best!
Can I go back to synthetic so my car will drive smooth again?

recently i saw a video, why not to switch from regular oil to mobil one,, they are old fables not refuse to die, i drove a old with 122,000 miles on it ,changed oil every 3,000 mike with castrol gtx, then i decided to put in mobil one, what a huge improvement, cleaned the engine , wow. started so much easier, better mileage, No Leaks Anywhere.
Good to know
Scotty, question. Do you consider synthetic oils for highway driving and conventional for city driving?
Scotty is the best
+Mehedi Hasan thanks for watching!
Did my own research. You just confirmed it. Thanks
Thanks, Scotty, that's what I was wanting to know about the full synthetic oil I recently switched to for my last oil change...when it will need changing again. Full synthetic is better than a blend, yeah?
pushed my temp gauge up to H for Hard Acceleration and my engine blew
Appreciate the info :)
I have seen oil filters that have self destructed around 5-7 thousand miles.
really??
Hey Scotty,
I'm cheap 😂. I have a 1995 5.2 liter Jeep grand Cherokee. It has 136,000 miles. Runs very well. We do a lot of short in town driving. I change only the filter at 2,500 miles, then at 5,000 change oil and filter. Is this a good practice?
Oil gets darker by heat cycling, not "dirt". Go by color.
Oil is designed that way.
Scotty great job with your videos.I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata and I change oil every 3000 miles. Am I wrong
Your correct,
Do you use synthetic?
Scotty, you's da man
Good info video..one thing to add-synthetic is NOT always better-garage fixed a leak on my A/T (1996 SATURN SC2).
Tranmission oil is very different from motor oil... you should always use owner manuals recommended oil
I believe in Scotty a thousand percent . appreciate all you do
