POV from a picky eater: I HATE being a picky eater. I hate feeling like I'm the one preventing people from having a good time when we go out to eat. I hate that I can't be adventurous at restaurants. But I have IBS and I'm lactose intolerant. I'm literally afraid to try new food sometimes because I'm afraid I'll get really sick. I've been working on trying new foods, but it's still hard sometimes.
So please be gentle with us picky eaters. Some of us have a lot going on and legitimate reasons to be picky about food.

I also have dietary restrictions mostly related to impacts to my digestion (gluten, soy, and lactose intolerant). @@kianna270 Did you not watch the episode at all before commenting this? The entire point, which is the context of the persons comment, is that the wife in the married couple in the story is the one with the issue. This persons comment you responded to isn't a general comment made from an outsider to judge married people with a shared opinion or agreement on rings, that's pretty obvious. She isn't saying if you and your partner have an agreement, that you are unloved because you don't have a nice ring. She's saying that as a woman who also would expect something a little more thoughtful and nicer quality from her husband, she gets where op's emotions are coming from. It's also a completely different conversation and context to the conversation if we're talking about people who just plain out cannot afford it, which is not OP or this commenters situation.
I feel like you're virtue signaling because in our misogynistic society, being a "materialistic woman" who is expecting a certain level of treatment from someone who has the means to do so is frowned upon, and you wanna get on your soapbox and let people know that "you're so not like these greedy other girls" and "love is more than a ring", when nobody said otherwise LOL Like this brand of people on the internet who have to take everything out of context and into the worst thing possible just to let everyone know a "lesson" literally nobody debated.

For the not eating with my gf story. My son is a picky eater and we are currently in the process of diagnosing him with an eating disorder call ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) this disorder is fear of eating new food. My son sticks to specific food and will not try new food. If he is forced to try food he will gag his body completely stops him from trying it. It’s like any other fear for example fear of spiders or heights.

    • @livelongandprospermary8796

I have that too but I don’t think it’s ARFID, just sensory issues because of my ADHD. If ARFID ends up not being it, and you haven’t ruled out other ND issues, might be worth an investigation. Either way, sensory or ARFID, it has its challenges both for the parents/caregivers and the kiddo. As an adult, I don’t enjoy that the thought of certain foods (even foods I liked yesterday) makes me gag. I’d rather starve than eat that meal 😅 keep your head up. Even if all kiddo eats is safe foods and a gummy vitamin, it will all be okay. (Sometimes that’s all I eat).

I had that happen with my baby (half) brother ALL THE TIME. I’m 9 yrs older than him. Mom always let him pick the movies and the TV shows and the activities and the restaurant. Like it was never what I wanted or even
my mom and I going out just us two so I could have what I wanted. Even before my brother was born, the minute anyone besides me was awake, we had to watch a different TV show since mine were boring/graphic (they were censored or reenactment medical shows). I wasn’t a big cartoon kid but I’d watch what was on because ADHD. As a result I often spent a lot of time reading a book instead. I’d get hyper focused and not really hearing anything around me because ADHD, which was undiagnosed until recently at almost age 30 btw, and then I would get into trouble for “ignoring” my brother. Like legit I couldn’t hear him calling my name nor lightly nudging me. I’d get told “go to your room if you’re just going to ignore everybody. Even that wasn’t an escape as my brother and I shared a room (he only slept in his crib in there) until he graduated to a big boy bed and my mom and now ex stepdad finished the basement for their room. My mom said he was allowed in the room because it was his room too but he would just come in and destroy my stuff or color on my books and stuff. I’d get mad and then I’d get into trouble for “not dealing with it the right way”. All his toys were kept in the living room. Aside from sleep, he had no business in “our” room/my stuff. He would also borrow my things like movies and my mom never made him put them away. “He’s fine, he’s just a kid” like “mom he’s ruining things”. I’d get into trouble for “momming” him if I tried to get him to clean up. I love the kid but I was resentful for a lot of years because he got to do whatever and I got into trouble for breathing. I was also made to share my computer with the household (which had been purchased just for me by my grandparents). The household was kind enough to limewire 10000 viruses into it and it became an unusable brick. I got a 2nd computer with my allowance $$ that I got when I lived with my aunts while my mom moved out of state with her bf and when we all moved back in together, I was made to share that computer too. My brother was older than and a little better about wrecking stuff. He was told he could use it but he had to shut it off. He and my mom would just shut the monitor off and then I’d get into trouble days later for it still being on 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 sorry this is digressing into me ranting. Point is I felt very much like I didn’t matter, my opinions don’t matter. I just default into “whatever you want” in groups and situations with my husband because that’s what I was taught to do. It’s people pleasing to the max and is incredibly unhealthy. Setting boundaries and asking for your needs to be met, especially on a birthday, isn’t selfishness and I’ll fight anyone who says it is.

Yeah like I’ll literally gag if I try to eat a food that doesn’t sound good. Even if it’s something I literally ate and enjoyed yesterday (and it’s being cooked fresh today), my body can decide that it’s a “nope” and just not want it. Like how some ppl won’t try sushi because they think it’s all raw fish or how some ppl don’t want to try cricket meal or caviar. That’s how my body reacts to random things. My hubby like super creamy mashed potatos and I like chunky. I keep explaining that the super creamy texture is like gag city for me and he just won’t listen 😢. We have super different food tastes to the point where we’ll literally go to two different restaurants and get to-go orders. Or we’ll pick restaurants with HUGE varieties so we’re likely to find something we both want. It’s a struggle but we make it work

Thankfully my husband is great with it, and he let's me choose where to eat where I feel comfortable, and my Father In Law when we see him, he always makes sure when we go out he's done his research to make sure I can eat. After she had her baby I smiled when she has mentioned just that on her episode being back. I think the same thing about the teenage boy and the mother. As a mommy of 2 teenage boys, I can totally see where that mom was coming from. As nice as it may be to
bond with the auntie (the bride) , it maybe that the mother was in the middle of a rough stage of teaching her son a life lesson that had nothing to do with the wedding attire that the bride just obliterated lol. So again today I thought to myself, one day these ladies will know.

"Mommy" of teenagers. TEENAGERS. Yikes. Being a mom does not suddenly make you the most important person. The bride and groom of THEIR OWN WEDDING specifically wanted their guests to be creative and wear what they wanted. The "mommy" is not the one who's opinions matter here. At all. She still has the ultimate say on what he wears, so the Aunt did absolutely nothing wrong by being honest about HER wishes for HER wedding day. Your opinion has nothing to do with you being a mom, but everything to do with you thinking you're special bc you're a mom.

If you are coming into someone else’s home, you do not get to dictate what they eat, etc. It also seems like she was just picking on him because she doesn’t like him. I’ve had a very difficult pregnancy where I struggled with smells, textures, everything and if I didn’t like it, I walked away to get it off my mind. You don’t get to be a dictator, just because you’re pregnant. The SIL is a full on asshole. Him, not at all.
