I can COMPLETELY relate to that feeling of needing to start on something, but then just like… not starting. It’s frustrating because a lot of the time it causes me to feel anxious, and then I feel kind of stupid like, “you could literally just start”.. but there just this resistance in me to starting for whatever reason.
My husband and I got married on our 8th anniversary with just our moms and my sister in attendance. It was absolutely perfect and not stressful at all. We ended up having a reception with 40 people a few months later. It was honestly the best of both worlds- eloping but still having a party. Do whatever works for you and your budget!

My husband and I eloped at Garden of the Gods in CO with a few closed friends, nothing crazy, got an air bnb in the mountains and basically through a mini house party in the cabin as a “reception”. Our original wedding date was not in the picture because of covid and this was the BEST and most special way we could’ve done it

Hi guys! Just some advice for Janelle and the wedding. I freaked about planning too and the best thing someone told me was to sit down together and write down your absolute wants for the day. For us it was photography, food and family, for example. We got married two weeks ago and are so happy with how the day went because we had a small wedding (24 people) with great pictures and food. Just think about the things that are the most important to the both of you. Congratulations!
I love the idea of syd and jarred doing vows in private with one another before the ceremony! I do want to throw out the idea of you each voice recording tour vows to each other before the wedding (like separately from each-other not to ruin the moment when you read them to eachother) Then somehow including the audio into your wedding. Maybe during the reception or even during the ceremony somehow. It would allow your guest to be apart of the vows which as I guest I love hearing the vows. Also, saying them aloud to your guest seems like a tradition that represents something to the loved ones of the bride and grooms loved ones. Like a chance to make a promise to not just your spouse but to their loved ones that care deeply for the bride and/or groom.

Our audience consisted of my mom, his sister, and a bunch of strangers waiting for traffic court. We've been together 20 years in February 2023, we celebrated 18 years of marriage this August. We're having a big vow renewal and party August 25, 2024, for our 20th wedding anniversary. 💞

I was a lot like Janelle before I got married. I just wanted to “be” married. We had a wonderful, small wedding and it was a blast. For the vows, we wrote them ourselves. Tye day before the wedding, we went to one of our favorite places and shared our vows with each other. This allowed us a special moment privately to really hear them from each other and reflect on our promises to each other and made the wedding ceremony less stressful. ❤
i had my wedding this past september and was also nervous about reading my vows in front of all our guests, i also thought it should be an intimate experience between my husband and i. we got our vows wood burned and then stepped away to privately read them to one another. it’s my favorite memory from the day. we now have them on our mantle ❤

I definitely feel the same as Janelle when it comes to having kids. I’m 30 and I go back and forth between wanting kids and not wanting kids. I think they are cute and would definitely make life more interesting, but they are also sooo much work, and I like to be able to do things when I want. But it’s upsetting because as a woman, you only have so much time and I feel like my time is running out quickly and I need to make a decision NOW. Ugh! Lol
Personally, I think keeping a human alive is pretty easy… it’s the molding their brain and raising good humans, and the stress to keep them Happy and all,… that’s my major set back! I turned 30 this year lol
That's the truth. From a biological standpoint women do not have all the time to make a decision. Fertility heavily is affected by age, that's why many Fertility specialists suggest egg freezing. Unfortunately not everyone can financially afford that procedure. It's definitely important to have a conversation w/ your partner about the future and what it looks like.
I feel the exact same way. Just turned 30 last month and already worrying about not having much time to decide. My mom had me at 37 though so it helps to remember that.

Janelle & Sydney! I just got married this year and listening to you talk about wedding planning wanted me to write this! I was nervous about saying my vows in front of everyone too, that my husband and i did a “first touch” and read our vows to each other back to back so that my husband could still have the moment of seeing me on the aisle (his idea :’)) and we would ease some nerves of the day. it was so nice having those few minutes to ourselves, and we just read the traditional, “for sick & for poor” in front of everyone else.

I had a girl in high school (I had no idea she had an ED) and I told her once that she didn’t look too skinny because she was feeling self conscious about looking boney. (I was like 14) so I made that comment thinking I was making her feel better and 3 years later she like tells our whole peer counseling class that I shamed her and made her relapse. Idk it was annoying cause I didn’t know she had an ED and she was going on and on about looking “too skinny” and I was trying to make her feel better. So I think sometimes your Traumas are just that, yours. And people aren’t always trying to trigger you.

My fiance and I found a very chill and affordable venue in the smokey mountains, we invited only our immediate family and best friends (about 20 people) and then we are having a small celebration with extended family in friends a couple weeks after. It's enough to satisfy my desire to put on a gown and walk down the isle in a relaxed setting, and still have a chance to celebrate with everyone else on our own terms

I got engaged in July and have been feeling the same way as you with getting married, i never thought I’d have a wedding but my fiance wants a little something for his family so we are thinking about getting eloped in Greece this spring, and the following year have a reception party with maybe a glamorous white jumpsuit instead of the dress for that. i had my wedding this past september and was also nervous about reading my vows in front of all our guests, i also thought it should be an intimate experience between my husband and i. we got our vows wood burned and then stepped away to privately read them to one another. it’s my favorite memory from the day. we now have them on our mantle ❤

We wrote our vows to each other and gave them to each other before the ceremony. We still have them to this day and it was way more special. We are both more introverted private people so it was much better this way
I definitely feel the same as Janelle when it comes to having kids. I’m 30 and I go back and forth between wanting kids and not wanting kids. I think they are cute and would definitely make life more interesting, but they are also sooo much work, and I like to be able to do things when I want. But it’s upsetting because as a woman, you only have so much time and I feel like my time is running out quickly and I need to make a decision NOW. Ugh! Lol
Personally, I think keeping a human alive is pretty easy… it’s the molding their brain and raising good humans, and the stress to keep them Happy and all,… that’s my major set back! I turned 30 this year lol
That's the truth. From a biological standpoint women do not have all the time to make a decision. Fertility heavily is affected by age, that's why many Fertility specialists suggest egg freezing. Unfortunately not everyone can financially afford that procedure. It's definitely important to have a conversation w/ your partner about the future and what it looks like.
I feel the exact same way. Just turned 30 last month and already worrying about not having much time to decide. My mom had me at 37 though so it helps to remember that.

Janelle, if you end up doing a wedding just do your personally written vows privately before the ceremony and then do the “generic” I do vows during the ceremony! That’s what I did and I think it was perfect because it keeps your vows private and intimate.

But I grew up with a mom extremely stressed about money and I don't want to be that mom, so I want to wait until I'm more financially stable but I honestly don't know if that will ever happen. I have dreams of starting my own business, but adhd makes it so hard to focus enough to ever do that. I admire Kendall so much as a business woman, and now she's a mom too like wow GOALS

I was nervous about saying my vows in front of everyone too, that my husband and i did a “first touch” and read our vows to each other back to back so that my husband could still have the moment of seeing me on the aisle (his idea :’)) and we would ease some nerves of the day. it was so nice having those few minutes to ourselves, and we just read the traditional, “for sick & for poor” in front of everyone else.

I had a girl in high school (I had no idea she had an ED) and I told her once that she didn’t look too skinny because she was feeling self conscious about looking boney. (I was like 14) so I made that comment thinking I was making her feel better and 3 years later she like tells our whole peer counseling class that I shamed her and made her relapse. Idk it was annoying cause I didn’t know she had an ED and she was going on and on about looking “too skinny” and I was trying to make her feel better. So I think sometimes your Traumas are just that, yours. And people aren’t always trying to trigger you.

Janelle I thought you might find it helpful to share my wedding plans, because I kinda felt the same way you do. My fiance and I found a very chill and affordable venue in the smokey mountains, we invited only our immediate family and best friends (about 20 people) and then we are having a small celebration with extended family in friends a couple weeks after. It's enough to satisfy my desire to put on a gown and walk down the isle in a relaxed setting, and still have a chance to celebrate with everyone else on our own terms

I got engaged in July and have been feeling the same way as you with getting married, i never thought I’d have a wedding but my fiance wants a little something for his family so we are thinking about getting eloped in Greece this spring, and the following year have a reception party with maybe a glamorous white jumpsuit instead of the dress for that. Everyone has opinions on what to do but you just gotta follow what you two decide cuz yeah a wedding is so expensive for just one day
