    I live in the same area as Nikki and I know for a fact there are multiple dog trainers that work with aggressive dog behavior and organizations that will help rehome an aggressive dog. There was absolutely no need to put a perfectly healthy dog down. So cruel.

      I am a Veterinary Assistant, we devote our lives to these amazing animals and we HATE having to euthanize ANY animal. So when incompetent owners come in and want to euthanize the only thing we can do is try and convince them to surrender. There is no such thing as a “bad” dog just dogs who have been bred poorly (By Humans) leading them to be pre-disposed to certain behaviours that can be worked with and dogs who have been neglected of training and/or treated poorly by humans causing “undesired” behaviour.
      It is so bizarre that they would share this publicly and think it’s okay.. 😬

      Exactly. They knew he wouldn’t do anything to the baby unless provoked. He could have been rehomed to someone with no kids or other dogs. Or like my sister did when her baby started walking and made one of her dogs nervous, keep them apart unless you’re right there hands on making sure both are being respectful to the other. She has 2 kids and 3 dogs who all love each other but deserve personal space and respect. They throw balls for the dogs, go on walks with the dogs, gently pet the dogs but they are never together without supervision.

    I have an aggressive dog and the last time I took her to the vet, the vet suggested I not keep her and insinuated that I should put her down. And she’s only two! It broke my heart and I looked for a new vet. Since then with training and careful monitoring, she has made significant improvements. It’s not impossible to keep an aggressive dog!

      @razk9231 3 года назад +26

      i’m honestly so surprised by the reaction to this because i’ve always felt the same way, dogs shouldn’t be put down for aggressive behaviour they should be trained, and so should the owner because it’s most likely a boundary they don’t understand they’re crossing. but in australia at least where i’m from it’s definitely not uncommon.
      my dog bit my face aggressively when he was like 1 and when i told my friends they were surprised i was buying him professional training instead of putting him down!!!!

      At the Veterinary Hospital I work at we will not euthanize any healthy rescue animal, it is heartbreaking that it is the first choice to some. It is so unethical, they never ask why the dog is reacting the way it is and if it is due to human error which is usually the primary cause. They all have different personalities and boundaries to respect just like a human would!

      My moms neighbor had a dog that was very aggressive and kept jumping their fence and trying to attack the kids in the neighborhood. They built a higher fence, I believe 6ft is the tallest we are allowed to have in our area. The dog still managed to jump the fence and attacked one of the neighbor kids while he was riding his bike and hurt him really bad. The boy was scared to even play in his own backyard for months afterward. The first time he was mentally able to ride his bike around the neighborhood again the dog jumped the fence and was chasing him. I love animals, all animals, 100% but when I saw the boy being chased I had no choice but to call the dog catcher. The dog catcher and the sherrif deputies forced the family to give up the dog so they could put it down. Which I feel guilty for to this day but the boy is my momds best friends son and I wasn't going to let him get hurt again. While I don't think what the couple they are talking about did is okay in any way shape or form and everything they said/did could have been handled differently and hearing them talk about it made me sick, sometimes you don't really get a choice. I'm glad you got your doggo the proper training and were able to keep her. ❤

    • @mn629
      @mn629 3 года назад +8

      Plus Nikki's dog wasn't even aggressive! A LOT of non-aggressive dogs will nip or get protective when food is taken away while they are eating. You just separate the dog from others when it's eating, it's not hard at all.

    In regards to the dog story: The biggest red flag for me was when the husband said "I liked him (Bowser) for being rowdy". This tells me that he probably encouraged his aggressive behavior. Only when he could no longer control it did he feel like he had to put him down.

    • @dmoneywise

Even the bin in my own room wasn't acceptable. So here’s my soapbox: My family have always been dog lovers, as have I. When my mom married my stepdad he had an older dog that was simply just used to it being just them two. He was never around kids before and I was only 4-5. My mom always tried to set boundaries with me about the dogs but one night I wanted to kiss him goodnight and he attached onto my face. I had to go to the ER and couldn’t eat solid foods for quite a while. Even in such a traumatic situation, my mom simply put the dog outside to remove us from this situation. And even at the ER I was telling them that it was my fault cause I didn’t listen about not getting in his face. We worked with training him and I learned a big lesson that day. We lived peacefully with that dog until he passed of old age and I would do absolutely anything for my dogs, including consistently remind my own toddler that dogs have their own language and we need to respect them as we do other people. You can’t say that your dog is like your child and then just kill him when he is being a dog. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they thought they would be justified in making such a small-minded, disgusting decision about another beings life.

    It reminds me of the RUclipsr Myka Stauffer literally giving up her adopted son because he had autism. Like they gave up on that dog by deciding to put him down because if you truly loved him and cared enough to try then you would do anything to save his life. Plenty of people have had to give up aggressive dogs and it would be understandable if her other dog was getting hurt but by putting him down you just made the convenient choice. Any dog is worth saving no matter how aggressive, there will have been someone or some place that could have taken him. This just upsets me so much!!!

    Set boundaries with your children and dogs (DUH)🗣 help your dog work through their trauma 🗣 DO NOT LABEL AN ENTIRE BREED AS AGGRESSIVE 🗣 they failed that dog. His Old Yeller comment made me feel so sick to my stomach. Screw them, they don’t deserve to have animals if this is their mindset.

    This is surprisingly more common than you guys might think. My grandmother told me that her and her sister would just go to the vet every few months when they got tired of one of there animals and euthanize them, she mainly had cats. But I was kinda tooken aback when I heard the vet could just kill an animal for no reason. Some people unfortunately value their own time too much and don't worry about animals or their wellbeing.

    • @r2488
      @r2488 3 года назад +3

      Yes... older generations especially viewed it as fine. My grandmother said she got a few dogs put down because she didn’t want to move them to the new house and one later because my uncle moved out and the dog was too hard to take care of. It’s so sad and disturbing. Also she had lied to the family about what actually happened to the dogs until just a few years ago.

    I actually have a ‘aggressive’ dog, I bought him off some guy on fb and didn’t know he bit until he was settled in our home. I am in love with my dog tho so I am training him, I would never go after the previous owner or kill my dog. This is the saddest story I’ve ever heard and it’s straight up animal abuse in my opinion.

If he wants it to be a special proposal, he needs to put in the hard work of coordinating all those people on a zoom call and put forth his OWN time and energy for his special moment.

    I feel so bad for joshes sisters. Their parents probably used forgiveness and Christianity to force them to move on from what josh did to them. I’ve been SA and while I guess I “forgive” my assaulter, I don’t want to just move on and have him be around me. You can forgive but not forget. They shouldn’t be forced to publicly say they forgive their assaulter just to save face for their family.

    My brother had a dog that was aggressive towards his children. He tried to train him but it didn’t work. He couldn’t financially get a professional trainer. So he found the dog a home that best fit the dogs needs. The home had no children or other animals but a good amount of land. I am sorry but how did they think putting down the dog was the best idea?! They have the financial resources to rehabilitate their dog or at least find a home that best fit him.

    The story about the dog made me really rethink my experience putting my elderly dog down. She was 14 and has an inoperable tumor on her neck but was still in good spirits. Quality of life was deteriorating but I didn’t feel it was the right time when we did it. I still wrestle with the thought of choosing when my dogs life ended. It’s never easy but I didn’t want her to suffer either

      Same, when I started the video I was in a full-blown anxiety attack and all spaced out, I had a shower and I’m 30 mins in and I feel better. Not everything will work for everyone but just in case I can help
      Things that help me:
      Showers (not baths as baths aren’t distracting enough as you need to move around in the shower)
      Lavender - I rub lavender oil on my pulse points (wrists, neck, temples)
      The 6 senses game (for panic attacks) - name (out loud or write it down) something in the room you can taste, touch, see, smell & a memory you have from the day. It really helps with grounding, I repeat the steps until I feel “back” / grounded.
      Turn on a RUclips video / tv episode - make sure it’s light but engaging enough to distract you
      Stand up and do something - wash dishes, fold clothes, put some laundry in etc. It will distract you for a few minutes and gives your body somewhere to release the adrenalin
      For panic attacks (If you have a family member/friend/partner to help) - ask them to hug you very tightly (without hurting you) as the pressure on the nervous system can stop the fight/flight reaction
      Hope one might help you someday, hang in there x
