Slav cuisine essentials:
- never mix milk with canned fish or you gonna have not so fun times on the toilet;
- put sprats on black bread;
- that apple thing called "povidlo", just an apple jam;
- way to eat those crackers is to heat the main dish, crash them into it, stir and eat;
- all these dishes are fully cocked, just heat them up with the heater that is included;
- that 5.50 dish is a rice porridge with beef. Heat it, add a little bit of water and it will be ok;
- croutons is the best side dish for a beer;
- that herring looks just wrong, try another one. Again - put on a black bread;
- squash spread is awesome with some fresh white bread, just put it on top in a thick layer and you gonna have a nice breakfast. Also goes as a good side dish for boiled potatoes. This whole can can easily be eaten in one day;
- condensed milk goes into coffee or tea instead of sugar or on top of the white bread. Also you can boil it. Totally changes the taste in a nice way.
How do you boil condensed milk? You mean reduce it? Like cook it down

Oh boy, nothing beats the polish MRE crackers in this field. And i tried a lot of MRE's as im buing those for like camping trips or music festivals. The polish "panzercracker" is an absolute unit. You can break glass with it. Seen a pal of mine popping a bottlecap with one and it did not crumble. Seen a guy sharpening one to the point that you could cut paper with it. If you dont know what it is you can break a tooth on one.

personally i enjoy sardines. my grandfather served in vietnam and always had a tin on him, and he never kicked the habit after he retired. him getting me to try sardines is one of my favorite memories of him.

The sweetened condensed milk will actually curdle into key lime pie if you mix key lime juice in and put it in the fridge. Most MREs that include it have what's basically a little travel-tube of toothpaste's worth. Also, the reason everything was soaked in fat or made of carbs in the Russian version is because shivering burns calories like crazy.
You know, I thought BSG was just taking shortcuts, but the sprats ACTUALLY look like a 2D texture. Bravo on the attention to detail.

1. Lunchbox - you need to heat up all the main dish cans on a portable alcohol pill heater in the kit. Since its a preserved food, its all preserved in fat. You need to heat it up so that it will dissolve into bearable form of food. Patte(the reverse hot dog stuff) and apple jam are meant to be eaten as a cracker spread\added in porridge(the rice-but it was pearl barley though), or eaten from a can by itself. There are also all sorts of drinks and snacks, this lunchbox is meant to be eaten either as a full meal, or 24hr ration, depends on the amount of main dishes.
2. Tushonka - Well, you better heat it up or add into something like mashed potatoes or porridge so that you wont feel the unholy amount of fat in it. The meat part is very yummy though.
2. Sprats - Ok manufacturer, there are cheap sprats that either feel like nothing, or have disgusting oil. I suppose yours went fine.
3. Croutons - Emelya is techincally a 90-00s meme in CIS countries. Kirieshki that you've got are more modern croutons. Horse radish is obviously quite bitter\spicy, while other flavors are usually too salty\sour, so they are usually eaten with beer or something like that as a side-snack.
4. Saury - Dobroflot is actually a very well-received seafood manufacturer in terms of price\quality. And yes, Saury and Tuna are same family, but different species.
5. Herring - This exact can from this manufacturer are often said to have....quite disgusting looking fish in there, it all melts down or spreads out, fish pieces are often soft and fall of the fork, so you are essentially eating a fish soup.
6. Squash - Despite looking like a puke\wet shit, it always tastes great, works like a sauce\spread, you can add this practically everywhere you want. You literally cant fuck it up, unless its very spoiled, like 5 years old can with botulism inside.
7. MRE - Nothing to say, usually MREs are less demanding in terms of heating shit up, or have chemical heater in the packs. Less filling food though.
8. Condensed milk - Its a universal dessert. You can drink tea with it, you can drink coffee with it, you can eat pancakes, sandwitches, cakes, icecream, whatever you want. Its essentially a mildly dehydrated milk, except its not a dry one. You can also boil it for a different kind of experience, it becomes caramelized, something like a vegemite, except its edible.
9. Alyonka - Usually it has quite short shelf time, so no wonder it already got fat separated from the cacao. Just a usual milk\dessert chocolate. Its a meme in CIS because of small chocolate bars with Alyonka's face on it, and weird chocolate matryoshka-formed chocolate from that brand (Rotfront).
P.S. - you really don't want to drink milk with canned food, unless you are in the dire need of fasting.

Of all the MREs I’ve had to eat, meatballs in marinara is by far my favorite. Banger sides with a solid entree, plus no crackers so even better

10:45 you're actually right, those beef stews are often made with the joint meat of beef. Its actually one of the most flavorful parts of the cow, but canned and cold doesn't do it any favors.

As an ex-conscript(2017-2018), these are on point. Exactly the ones we ate in the field.
Also, the “organ” is beef in some sauce.
And yeah, crackers are tough boys. “Apple sauce” is supposed to hydrate crackers. Tushonka is basically beef stew,

But yeah, I’d eat it in a hideout, heated up.

Sayra is just another type of fish. Turkey and chicken taste close, but not the same.
Ooof, you got one messed up herring. It should come in mini-filletes, not mashed… should still taste well tho. Better brands are actually a gourmet meal and/or used to eat with strong drinks.
Squash spread… Way better with bread/crackers.
Condensed milk - super sweet. Used in all kinds of desserts, also get it on bread, wash down with some tea. Very sweet, some of my friends used to somehow drink whole cans it when we were conscripts. Body wants sugar when stressed I guess…
Protip: MRE has a purple or yellow powder in it. Its a sweet, cool fizzy energy drink concentrate. Mix with some water. Meant to keep the blood electrolytes in check.

Sprats are sooo good! I’m Russian so we eat that all the time. We like to eat them on French bread with a little bit of butter. The croutons come in different flavors and we like to eat them and have beer. The squash/eggplant spread is super good on spaghetti! My boyfriend plays Tarkov and we hen we go to the Russian store he pretty compares everything to Tarkov lol

As someone who also dated a Russian girl for like 5 years, Russian food is good as hell if you have an adventurous palate. Black Russian rye bread is incredible, kvass is great, and I've thought about getting back with my ex just so I can get access to her dad's borscht again. We always had a bag of homemade pilmeni in the freezer too. And there's some cookie made with sour cream I can't remember the name of. The only things I could never get into were herring, and the habit of eating dried calamari with your beer.

You are supposed to heat up basically almost EVERYTHING in this box before you eat it. It tastes MUCH better when it's heated up. There's even a special little furnace there that you can use for that.
That’s how most MREs work. Only MREs for really cold regions have more edible stuff right out of the package.

After 8 years in the Army...I identify with this on a whole different, spiritual level. Also yes...Garlic mashed potatoes is hands-down the worst side dish in the MRE series. Its absolute trash. The only people I've seen claim to like it are also the people with 4 teeth left and gum-rot because they've been dipping since they were 4.

I actually buy those exact canned sprats all the time. They are really good on a cracker. They taste a lot like a smoked oyster which I also love.
Condensed milk is pretty similar to a custard or something similar made for baking. It’s sweet but like Sam said pretty much a free pass to diabetes from more than a spoonful 💀
