That white power you added WAS sugar, the package said "САХАР", which translates to sugar. You did add the apple paste to your water too. You opened the паштет, which is pronounced pashtyet, it translates to patê, or liver paste, it seems like the MRE included plov (плов) or kasha (каша). A good trick is to spread the pashtet on the crackers. The apple jam can be taken straight or on crackers too.

Yeah it has to be the burning tablet, as American Military Rations used to have those in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, but they were done away with. I presume it's because of those chemicals. Don't need American troops shitting and puking themselves in war. And if it's the barley porridge and/or beef, it can't be. How would Russian soldiers eat that? They may be literally more cold-blooded than us (because their base body temperature is actually different to say, ours. I'm sure the same could be said about Alaskans, Canadians, Scandinavians, and Antarcticans), but they're still people. They eat the same as us. So you may be right about the tablet.
The previous owners of my house left tubs upon tubs of MRE's. When I was super poor and in-between jobs I lived off these things. I still have a decent amount left in case if emergency. My favorite one was the cheese tortellini.

First of all, what you poured into the water was jam, it's better to spread it on a cracker. Put the powder for water together with sugar. Before you start cooking in a mini campfire, first you need to take a KNIFE and cut the food into pieces, then put it on the fire, there is still salt and black pepper (add to taste), mix periodically. there are also pates, sausage, caviar, a lot more powders for water (juice) and yes, they can be combined for a better taste. there are also disinfection tablets for dirty water and 1 tablet with vitamin. 3 years late but The American one contains a single meal, so in the field, in the absence of a kitchen, and the availability of an MRE, you can end up with 3 of those packs a day with 24 menus. The flameless ration heater is a mixed bag, with some working fine, others not really that effective, also depending on the amount of water you put and how sealed the bag is. Not the best retort pouch for sure. It's also got a lot of snacks, with some coming with entire packs of skittles or corn nuts. The spoon and accessory packet is a fixed addition, each containing gums, tissues, seasoning, matches, and coffee or juice. The Russian MRE is a 24 hour ration, that's why it has so much stuff and 3 main meals. It's got less variety , but it's much easier to get to the soldier because you don't need to carry multiple meals a day like the US MRE so you can hand one to a soldier and tell him to come back for another tomorrow, but it's not as diverse and you're gonna get bored of it eventually. The matches are very nice though. There was a scandal before where Russian army served their troops canned dog food re-labeled as premium canned meat, and the whistleblower was jailed for exposing it and they promised the public they won't do that anymore, but you know how Russian government is about promises, so make of that what you will about the quality of the food. Also you have to cook it over flame if you want it to be palatable, which is not nice when you're out in the field trying to stay concealed. Some other MRE's that use heating tablets are French and Italian among others. The Korean MRE comes in 3 forms. One is the one like this, which is dehydrated rice, vegetable and shrimp or chicken or beef, and the actual army ones have sesame oil and the spicy sauce. The second type is a collection of small boxes making up a couple different options, like different types of rice, different main menu, and the usual side dishes like kimchi or black beans. It's meant for quick bulk preparation for units. It's the worst tasting one. The last one is the coveted US style MRE with a zip lock style top, which has a main fried-rice menu with I believe different side dish options being meatballs or sausages. It also has a retort pouch for heating like the American flameless ration heater, but you don't have to pour water into it as it comes pre-packaged with the right amount, and you pull on a plastic drawstring which ruptures the water bag inside of the chemical bag, and the food is placed outside of the reaction chamber before putting everything in the MRE bag and zipping it shut. It really works so much better than the American one, with better reliability and the heat much hotter. It also comes with a pack of army brand M&M's type chocolate which is mid and an almond pound cake that is super dense and hearty with mild enjoyable flavors. The only issue is it's expensive to produce so you're not gonna see much going around.

Yes, the ration from the video isn't government issued, but it's made from the same manufacturing company. So I guess it shouldn't be a lot different from what the actual soldiers eat. (And the ration from the video is only the main meal. The soldiers are actually received a full packet which includes not only the main meal, but also side dishes and desserts.)

Just wanted to let you guys know what the food was in the Russian MRE. The bigger tins were some form of beef stew, potatoes, and grits with meat. The smaller tins were a cheese spread and a paté spread. The 'apple sauce' was a fruit jam. And the mystery powder he put in his drink was sugar. Most likely for the tea or coffee in the box.

We need a modern version of "Saving Private Ryan" where an Uber driver has to make a perilous journey to deliver Domino's to an Army unit stationed in Baghdad.
Not a vet... just a weirdo who loves buying and trying MREs and I have learned the best way to use the FRH is to put your meal in underneath the magnesium and iron pellets and fold the top of your food packets lip away from the FRH's opening. The pour your water directly on top of the magnesium and iron pellets, quickly begin kneading the water into the filters so it can react with the two metals. Fold the top of the packet and put it into FRH sleeve and lean it against your wall or whatever. This ensures that water will reach the metals as sometimes it can get trapped behind your mre packet and never react with the heater. If heating two items put the heater in the middle of the two and fold their lids away from each other so you can pour water directly into the middle and onto the metals. The cautionary signs and instructions are there for liability reasons and lead to overthinking. Honestly it's a very basic chemical reaction we have all done more serious work in high school. EDIT: He asked how long to cook it and I dont remember where I read it one of the meals I bought perhaps.. 12-15 mins for your average warm up time but I have learned how to judge exactly how hot my heater is getting and whether or not a few mins should be added, if in cold weather go until the reaction stops and all the water has turned to gas, and shee keep it in your jacket or summ for a few mins to finish warming the food and yourself up a little. Ok seeing how the food came out it is cold as a brick. literally and it says to knead it to ensure uniform temp that is when you first add the water. they want you to knead the water into the metal packets lmao. If you see the sauce come out like that its because you did not heat it enough to break it free from its congealed state. @11:21 RIP Also urine is probably not a suitable liquid to heat mres with atleast not the standard issue US FRH as it uses Magnesium and iron pellets with tablesalt. This is a very particular reaction in which the electorlyte (salt) allows for a galvanic cell to form between the magnesium and iron (a battery basically) and because you submerged that battery in water you get a bunch of tiny short-circuiting batteries producing hydrogen, which is exactly what batteries produce as a byproduct by the by, and heat of course. So using urine in this reaction which contains salt, magnesium and iron in trace amounts will lengthen the reaction and I am not versed enough in chemistry to know but the nitrogen forming Magnesium nitride must at the very least contend with the other reaction that we want to occur so it is not advisable. Additional Edit with my summary on US MRE: They are good. The main problem is the randomization that encourages soldiers to trade with one another. I have had perfect MRE's that hit the spot and others that dont work at all together. Like the Beef patty with jalepeno that came with... tortillas? and potatoes in cheese? And god you don't want to know what that patty looked like. Oh and the sauces were BBQ sauce and mayonnaise xD And in your case the plain cheese is great as its a solid cheez wiz product that gives soldiers that slice of home their fighting for. But that bread is dogwater unless they give you the peanut butter and jam packets which you did not get this time. Its really a supply Sergeant's world out there

That white power you added WAS sugar, the package said "САХАР", which translates to sugar. You did add the apple paste to your water too. You opened the паштет, which is pronounced pashtyet, it translates to patê, or liver paste, it seems like the MRE included plov (плов) or kasha (каша).
A good trick is to spread the pashtet on the crackers. The apple jam can be taken straight or on crackers too.

Yeah it has to be the burning tablet, as American Military Rations used to have those in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, but they were done away with. I presume it's because of those chemicals. Don't need American troops shitting and puking themselves in war. And if it's the barley porridge and/or beef, it can't be. How would Russian soldiers eat that? They may be literally more cold-blooded than us (because their base body temperature is actually different to say, ours. I'm sure the same could be said about Alaskans, Canadians, Scandinavians, and Antarcticans), but they're still people. They eat the same as us. So you may be right about the tablet.
The previous owners of my house left tubs upon tubs of MRE's. When I was super poor and in-between jobs I lived off these things. I still have a decent amount left in case if emergency. My favorite one was the cheese tortellini.

First of all, what you poured into the water was jam, it's better to spread it on a cracker. Put the powder for water together with sugar. Before you start cooking in a mini campfire, first you need to take a KNIFE and cut the food into pieces, then put it on the fire, there is still salt and black pepper (add to taste), mix periodically. there are also pates, sausage, caviar, a lot more powders for water (juice) and yes, they can be combined for a better taste. there are also disinfection tablets for dirty water and 1 tablet with vitamin. 3 years late but
The American one contains a single meal, so in the field, in the absence of a kitchen, and the availability of an MRE, you can end up with 3 of those packs a day with 24 menus. The flameless ration heater is a mixed bag, with some working fine, others not really that effective, also depending on the amount of water you put and how sealed the bag is. Not the best retort pouch for sure. It's also got a lot of snacks, with some coming with entire packs of skittles or corn nuts. The spoon and accessory packet is a fixed addition, each containing gums, tissues, seasoning, matches, and coffee or juice.
The Russian MRE is a 24 hour ration, that's why it has so much stuff and 3 main meals. It's got less variety , but it's much easier to get to the soldier because you don't need to carry multiple meals a day like the US MRE so you can hand one to a soldier and tell him to come back for another tomorrow, but it's not as diverse and you're gonna get bored of it eventually. The matches are very nice though. There was a scandal before where Russian army served their troops canned dog food re-labeled as premium canned meat, and the whistleblower was jailed for exposing it and they promised the public they won't do that anymore, but you know how Russian government is about promises, so make of that what you will about the quality of the food. Also you have to cook it over flame if you want it to be palatable, which is not nice when you're out in the field trying to stay concealed. Some other MRE's that use heating tablets are French and Italian among others.
The Korean MRE comes in 3 forms. One is the one like this, which is dehydrated rice, vegetable and shrimp or chicken or beef, and the actual army ones have sesame oil and the spicy sauce. The second type is a collection of small boxes making up a couple different options, like different types of rice, different main menu, and the usual side dishes like kimchi or black beans. It's meant for quick bulk preparation for units. It's the worst tasting one. The last one is the coveted US style MRE with a zip lock style top, which has a main fried-rice menu with I believe different side dish options being meatballs or sausages. It also has a retort pouch for heating like the American flameless ration heater, but you don't have to pour water into it as it comes pre-packaged with the right amount, and you pull on a plastic drawstring which ruptures the water bag inside of the chemical bag, and the food is placed outside of the reaction chamber before putting everything in the MRE bag and zipping it shut. It really works so much better than the American one, with better reliability and the heat much hotter. It also comes with a pack of army brand M&M's type chocolate which is mid and an almond pound cake that is super dense and hearty with mild enjoyable flavors. The only issue is it's expensive to produce so you're not gonna see much going around.

Yes, the ration from the video isn't government issued, but it's made from the same manufacturing company. So I guess it shouldn't be a lot different from what the actual soldiers eat. (And the ration from the video is only the main meal. The soldiers are actually received a full packet which includes not only the main meal, but also side dishes and desserts.)

Just wanted to let you guys know what the food was in the Russian MRE. The bigger tins were some form of beef stew, potatoes, and grits with meat. The smaller tins were a cheese spread and a paté spread. The 'apple sauce' was a fruit jam. And the mystery powder he put in his drink was sugar. Most likely for the tea or coffee in the box.

Not a vet... just a weirdo who loves buying and trying MREs and I have learned the best way to use the FRH is to put your meal in underneath the magnesium and iron pellets and fold the top of your food packets lip away from the FRH's opening. The pour your water directly on top of the magnesium and iron pellets, quickly begin kneading the water into the filters so it can react with the two metals. Fold the top of the packet and put it into FRH sleeve and lean it against your wall or whatever. This ensures that water will reach the metals as sometimes it can get trapped behind your mre packet and never react with the heater. If heating two items put the heater in the middle of the two and fold their lids away from each other so you can pour water directly into the middle and onto the metals. The cautionary signs and instructions are there for liability reasons and lead to overthinking. Honestly it's a very basic chemical reaction we have all done more serious work in high school. EDIT: He asked how long to cook it and I dont remember where I read it one of the meals I bought perhaps.. 12-15 mins for your average warm up time but I have learned how to judge exactly how hot my heater is getting and whether or not a few mins should be added, if in cold weather go until the reaction stops and all the water has turned to gas, and shee keep it in your jacket or summ for a few mins to finish warming the food and yourself up a little.
Ok seeing how the food came out it is cold as a brick. literally and it says to knead it to ensure uniform temp that is when you first add the water. they want you to knead the water into the metal packets lmao. If you see the sauce come out like that its because you did not heat it enough to break it free from its congealed state. @11:21 RIP Also urine is probably not a suitable liquid to heat mres with atleast not the standard issue US FRH as it uses Magnesium and iron pellets with tablesalt. This is a very particular reaction in which the electorlyte (salt) allows for a galvanic cell to form between the magnesium and iron (a battery basically) and because you submerged that battery in water you get a bunch of tiny short-circuiting batteries producing hydrogen, which is exactly what batteries produce as a byproduct by the by, and heat of course. So using urine in this reaction which contains salt, magnesium and iron in trace amounts will lengthen the reaction and I am not versed enough in chemistry to know but the nitrogen forming Magnesium nitride must at the very least contend with the other reaction that we want to occur so it is not advisable.
Additional Edit with my summary on US MRE: They are good. The main problem is the randomization that encourages soldiers to trade with one another. I have had perfect MRE's that hit the spot and others that dont work at all together. Like the Beef patty with jalepeno that came with... tortillas? and potatoes in cheese? And god you don't want to know what that patty looked like. Oh and the sauces were BBQ sauce and mayonnaise xD And in your case the plain cheese is great as its a solid cheez wiz product that gives soldiers that slice of home their fighting for. But that bread is dogwater unless they give you the peanut butter and jam packets which you did not get this time. Its really a supply Sergeant's world out there
