It also has a retort pouch for heating like the American flameless ration heater, but you don't have to pour water into it as it comes pre-packaged with the right amount, and you pull on a plastic drawstring which ruptures the water bag inside of the chemical bag, and the food is placed outside of the reaction chamber before putting everything in the MRE bag and zipping it shut. It really works so much better than the American one, with better reliability and the heat much hotter. In the Russian pack, the can he broke was tushonka (meat soup) the one he was eating was kasha (meatloaf) and the powder that he thought was a drink mix was sugar. He used the "Cooker" upside down, the long prongs that he bent upwards were the legs and the short ones were the holder for the fuel, if he did it correctly it would have focused the flame into a long vertical flame. Also you're supposed to open the lid but not remove it completely as it contains the heat and evenly cooks it, he was also right about mixing it, you have to mix it up while it cooks or it will burn to the bottom of the can.

"It feels like untapped potential, you know? You know? It feels like that kid who went through school in all the gifted classes and like, went into all the, like, exceptional classes and did really well without even really trying, a lot of effort, and everyone told the kid that like, "hey you're going to be something someday. You're really smart, you're really clever, you're really going at it." But they never applied themselves after that because they got in their heads that they didn't need to. Cuz of all this praise and it kind of got to them, and a-as things got harder, they never really knew how to cope with it, because they didn't really know how to put in the effort in the first place, they were so used to having things be easy for them to be... to shine through. And it's not that they got dumber, it's just that their expectations of themselves were so high that they expected to be able to pass with flying colors without any effort, but as things got harder and they needed to put in more effort so the... effort needed to scale proportionally to where they were, and yet... they kind of drifted and then they didn't really know what they were doing with their life, and they- they- they- they- they- felt like... you know, if they weren't going to get it in the first try they might as well not try at all and they kind of like faded out, and you know, it's not that they like, ended up, like, completely downtrodden and all, they just never lived up to the potential. It was there, but... never acted upon. You know what I mean? ... Turkeyyy!!!" -Markiplier, 2020

Just so ppl are aware, Korean MRE in this video is not actually a military issued MRE, rather it is a commercially available “MRE” intended for camping and outdoor eating.
Yes, the ration from the video isn't government issued, but it's made from the same manufacturing company. So I guess it shouldn't be a lot different from what the actual soldiers eat. (And the ration from the video is only the main meal. The soldiers are actually received a full packet which includes not only the main meal, but also side dishes and desserts.)
Fun fact, Honey is the only non man made food that never spoils ever. Edit: This is only a generalized response and I'm not targeting anyone, but Salt is a rock, not food, it just happens to be edible, and unless you learned how to chew it (Ice does not count) then Water is not Food.
@@karr2619 it depends on how processed it is. In Egypt people are finding containers of honey in the crypts and such that is still perfectly fine, and that's hundred to thousands of years old
Just for anyone wondering about some of the unknown Russian foods, the entrée he heated up was comprised of buckwheat and beef (the one he didn't eat was goulash I believe). The other 2 cans that he didn't recognize were of pâté and a cheese to spread on the crackers, the apple paste was meant to be mixed with hot water to make cider, and the green packet was just sugar meant for the tea. Just wanted to let you guys know what the food was in the Russian MRE. The bigger tins were some form of beef stew, potatoes, and grits with meat. The smaller tins were a cheese spread and a paté spread. The 'apple sauce' was a fruit jam. And the mystery powder he put in his drink was sugar. Most likely for the tea or coffee in the box.

when you put the meal pouch into the heater bag and add water, shake it or turn it a bit so that the heater inside side is saturated, the heating chemicals are water activated.
*pours water that was in the heater back into the cup* “I’ll get more water later” *doesn’t get more water* *pours drink mix into the water* *drinks it*
my dad got me and my brother some MRE’s that were leftover at his station. i can confirm that the smoothie/shake mix is decent, the crackers are very dry, and it’s better than school food.
As russian, I find it very funny to look at how Markiplier dissolves a whole pack of sugar in a glass, drinks it, and still being confused why the drink is blank

the only one that doesn’t make sense is the American logic though

America and Russia: Here rations soldier, packed with artificial nutrients so you may fight!
Korea : I packed you some rice Young man, here's some oil and off you go
Koreas also requires a heat source to heat up water. Which in the field; thanks to thermal imaging, is impossible.

As someone who served in the Marines for 5 years, I found this video VERY funny, and VERY relatable (to my first time having an MRE). The "rock or something" is a meme in the military
I wonder if someone ever put it up against nothing, thus defeating it
The "or something" means just lean it up against your battle buddy who is sleeping and is about to feel something really hot
@@moselzag5451 I think thats damn near impossible because the air would be holding it up. Time to make an mre in space...???
I used to lean mine against my buddy's mre

Well only if it touched the smoke. Since the fire tablet contains the chemicals. Thats why it should be enclosed but i don't think it was the case for him since he is in a big space. In enclosed space it would be a problem since the smoke will go right in the food .

Beef Ravioli was the coveted one in my unit. people would bring baggies of goldfish crackers or pringles in the field to add to it
I always imagine soldiers like: Eat! Sleep! and just shout at eachother so it must have been fun hearing someone say: Guys do you have a little left over goldfish crackers? .. no :'( aw okay
Ok but the beef ravioli is kinda good
The tuna one is the best. I hate the ones in tomato sauce

American-filipino that speaks Russian here- the amount of times ive spoken to someone in russian and they look at me thinking i should be speaking indian(or other languages of this color) is a large amount. That white power you added WAS sugar, the package said "САХАР", which translates to sugar. You did add the apple paste to your water too. You opened the паштет, which is pronounced pashtyet, it translates to patê, or liver paste, it seems like the MRE included plov (плов) or kasha (каша).
A good trick is to spread the pashtet on the crackers. The apple jam can be taken straight or on crackers too.
russian MRE definitely included kasha + tushonka i believe
Russian food explained
Your "apple sauce" is jam that you put on a cracker
Your "flour" is powdered milk that you put into the tea
The three dishes are meat with vegetables, meat stew and the one you cooked is meat pooridge
The thing you put into the glass first is sugar
So he did all wrong xD
Meat porridge?tf
we sure that's meat?
It was kasha
I laughed out loud when I saw him put whole pack of sugar into one glass of water and wondering what it is.

“You can’t order pizza when you’re in the middle of a war zone.” Didn’t happen in a war zone per se, but while I was stationed in Alaska and we were out in the field training. We would give the dominoes on post an 8 digit grid to a nearby road and sure as shit they would come out there in the middle of nowhere and deliver the pizza.
