when he said “this subreddit is half hating on the poor” (or whatever the quote was) i wasn’t expecting half of the food to literally be food that low income people usually eat. the butter and cheese noodles being there really convinced me that he has a point.
The cheese noodles picture is just there because the subreddit's supposed to be the opposite of well presented or complex dishes. They're not hating on the poor it's just a bad picture of a fairly simple dish.

Buttered pasta with bottled parmesan cheese is a hood classic, i just eat this as a meal and it gets the job done, it is truly, a low income class certified dish.

I think the missed potential for the triwich is different toppings on each bread so like nuttella, peanut butter, and banana. To give you every combo you could want while keeping things balanced.

I never struggled much seeing as my parents were relatively affluent, but my parents' idea of packing food for me when I went to school was giving me a banana or an orange and wishing me luck.

The "peanut butter and jelly on rice cake" thing unlocked a memory that I didn't even know I had. Used to make those all the time when I was a kid, although I remember mine as being open-faced. ALSO another memory from my childhood that just popped up--one Kraft single on a rice cake, heated in the microwave for like 20-30 seconds.
I am an adult and still do both of these things and love it although microwaving rice cakes sometimes makes em chewy and weird
McDonald's originally reached out to a Chinese restaurant back in the day to buy their Orange Chicken recipe. But when the Chinese restaurant refused, McDonald's came out with the Chicken McNuggets (hence we have the sweet and sour sauce)[1]. And that pretty much started the whole nugget craze which probably spawned the Dino Nuggets. Seeing Dino Nuggets get turned into Orange Chicken is a weird circle coming back whole.

Seriously, Sam's got a good point in stating that a lot of the criticism is misdirected at what's perceived as poor people food. A lot of times, it's really good, but might just be seen as low-class. Stir-fried ramen noodles (budget chow mien), cheese and butter spaghetti (budget carbonara), grilled cheese hotdog sandwich (this is actually an expensive grilled cheese). People are seriously making fun of others for eating within their budgets. Try it before you knock it (most times, but not always).
It's not, however, an excuse for gross food to exist, like powerade pasta or putting pineapple on pizza.

I had butter noodles today after puking all morning 😅 it went down easy and was nice and soft for my aching belly. Stayed down too. I put Italian herb seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper on it. Did exactly what I needed it to.

as a professional chef from a brokeass background i have to laugh at how pretty much every one of these dishes i have either made something similar or found pretty much nothing wrong with. To this day one of my favorite drinks is hot gatorade (the cucumber one is my go to) with a splash of vodka on a cold day. Awesome vid!!!
Pizza Bagels + Chicken Nuggets = Chicken Parmesan Sandwich Sliders.
You could unironically serve the triwich on one of those trendy, pop up restaurants if you spruce it up a little.
For example, make it so that each of the bread "flanges" have different toppings. Like tuna on one, BLT on one and maybe ham on the third.
Also when assembled, you take the old kitchen burner and basically toast the outside of the bread to add a little bit of crunch.
Put it on a plate and add some stupid garnish, like dill or whatever and presto. You have a rather interesting looking starter, and the gimmick is that each side of the sandwhich will be like three different kinds of sandwiches, for that customer who is unsure of what to pick from the menu.
Great idea.

Rice cakes sound like a great bread alternative for sandwiches if you want something healthier.
Wait, that's what they're for, aren't they?
A lot of people forget this is another bread substitute especially if you cant eat gluten. You can eat them with Jam, peanut butter and jelly, put all types of cold cuts over it and eat it like an open sandwich. Yeah they aren't the tastiest but if you cant eat gluten, sodium, trans fats,need healthier options or cheaper options they are pretty good! Some even come with powdered condiments and they are bomb imo!
You really have to know how to make gluten free things, they aren't easy and definitely will not be tasty if you dont make them right lol so rice cakes are good alternatives
No joke the pickle and hot dog grilled cheese has been added to my list of quick recipes.
if you like that also try spam or other tinned meat grilled and then add it to a grilled cheese with tomato soup to dip it in . takes 15 min to make and fills you up. the best way to eat that is at night with the lights off under a blanket watching a movie it makes you feel so content i have a bad case of depression i lost 2 family members to covid in 3 months and my wife had a miscarriage because she couldn't get into the hospital to see a midwife because everyone in the uk is trying to get booster jabs so all the medical staff have basically switched to doing that . after a hard day working a shitty 12 hour shift in a clothing warehouse it makes me feel normal again for a few hours and honestly it does more for my mental health than my anti depressants cheap fast and a mood lifter give it a go and send me a massage back and tell me how fucking chilled out it makes you . you get extra relaxed if you have a warm bath or shower first

the sad thing about the butter-noodle-cheese is that it can be elevated with with simple techniques , just make a sauce with the cheese and the pasta water emulsifying everything, you have a 10/10 dish with the same ingredients

The thing about the triwich is that, after like four or five bites, you've consumed one "wing" and its basically just a normal sandwich now
Fry up the hotdogs first before throwing them on the sandwich. Maybe even fry the pickles too if you're feeling daring. It didn't melt because the hot dogs were cold out of the package.

The plain noodles were what I ate like most of my childhood and I still eat it to this day I'm glad he is giving our community the recognition we deserve
you have to put the rice paper in water (like, fully submerge it) for a few seconds then the texture becomes less skin-like

I actually like rice cake “sandwiches” as a snack. I only do one rice cake at a time for a better topping-to-rice cake ratio and add a good amount of mustard to add some tang & moisture. I use sharp or white cheddar and thinly sliced ham or Turkey.
I also use the white cheddar rice cakes oftentimes instead of the plain ones. They’re really not bad if you’re looking to have a snack or lighter lunch.
Never eaten a rice cake sandwich, but I'd imagine just cakes, meat, and cheese would be dry af. I may need to try it but would definitely use some spicy mustard. I mean pricing it out comes to less than $1 per sandwich.

The "shakey cheese noodles" is functionally what traditional Alfredo is. Though Alfredo usually has a shitload more cheese and butter. It's only in the states where we added cream and herbs
