I agree that people need to stop comparing it to the first season, but that’s not why this season is hot garbage imo. The not so subtle nods to the first season are annoying since it doesn’t add anything to this story. The main characters are literally the same and annoying to watch, there’s no interesting dynamic that makes them stand out, both are unfriendly people who are rude to everyone around them, have anger issues, and are unable to deal with troubling pasts that involve dead family members. For people that want to see a brilliant female driven detective story with interesting characters and a great setting, watch Mare of Easttown. It’s nuts that they somehow made a remote Alaskan setting with a case that has a supernatural twist boring.
I couldn’t agree more! I absolutely love this season. I think people are shitting on it because it’s written and lead by women and is incorporating themes that some people like to label as “woke” (the environmental situation and the racial divide). A lot of people have a negative subconscious (or conscious tbf) knee jerk reaction to stuff like that, especially when they live their day to day lives ignoring or not being directly effected by by stuff like that. I personally love the show and find myself rewatching episodes. Partially because I’m super confused, but also because I like getting lost in Night Country, the ice against the stars and vice versa, the snow silently falling, the strange eerie ache in the air that seems to permeate all of the characters lives. I like how the women are portrayed; they’re complex, they’re real, they’re flawed, they’re as torn up by the landscape as you would expect but they’re strong and softness lives underneath. Does the plot feel messy and convoluted..yes. Am I feeling overwhelmed by clues and lost without answers? Are some parts cheesy and ridiculous? Is it sometimes seeming too hard to draw from the success of season 1? Sure. But right now, it’s the most intriguing thing on television that I’ve seen in a long time. Creative, mysterious, haunting, I love the inclusion of the native people, the womens circles, and of course the striking visuals pull you into another world. Seeing Jodie foster is a treat and you can tel she’s having fun in the role and sometimes turns into the shows only comic relief. I think that Rust brought the symbol to Alaska. It was his trailer that Clarke bought. Rust put the symbol in the trailer because he was still trying to put away everyone involved in the yellow king case.
You might be on to something. Clarke is trying to bring people back via finding Rusts files in the trailer. He’s not an inner member of the cult, he’s just a desperate man trying to apply the cult findings.
That's the angle i thought they were going in, but they dropped the ball. It's too late to make that interesting now. I thought that we'd find that the trailer was full of rust's notes, etc, and that clarke and annie became obsessed with the spiral symbol. But it's much too late in the season, now, to play that out. We will likely still hear something about that though. She had the cousin write down the name of the trailer's former owner, in her book. Surely they will reveal Rust's name eventually.
Oranges can be a symbol for fertility as I think fruit in general can be. Also, wealth, especially in places where getting fresh oranges is not easy (like Northern Alaska). And mainly, like you’ve said, death, def popularized by the Godfather trilogy.
The fertility thing makes sense since there’s so much surrounding Annie the midwife. A lot about losing fertility and having still births because of the tainted water.
Thank you 😊 ❤❤ Now this may be wayyyyy off lol but ever since I heard, I believe was the director say we are going to see the murderer throughout the episodes. Which is commonly the case so why would she bring that up, maybe to let us know it wouldn’t be like season one of true detective. Or that it’s one of the main characters we couldn’t imagine. I’m Really starting to think its Navorro that is the “killer”. I believe the way she has been protecting the women of the town has to do with the story more then we know, Beyond the connection with her mothers life and death. I feel like she has a real connection with the girl/ god of the sea, who was also protective but also has a lot of anger most likely cause by how she was killed, fingers cut off by her father because she wouldn’t marry who she was told. The one tale that his son was being taught by the native women of the town. But it’s not a case of her wanting to kill anyone but her having two sides of her personality. The murders could have been happening for many years. Like Why would she have her mother’s necklace, That she had been wearing when she “left” never to be seen again. I think her sister knew it was her sister that had being killing and although she loved that good side of her sister. It would have been a very heavy secret to keep and would be quite confusing for her, especially because he also had mental illness. Now was that mental illness created by those secrets. 🤷🏼♀️. But saying all of this. I still don’t have answers to why Annie would be killed. Etc. And I don’t believe Rose is alive either 🫣🤭
This female director changes this season, choosing female leads. She's not going to then make one of them the villain. And, that would also make a mockery of the other female lead, that she couldn't even tell that her partner is the killer.
I don’t think Navarro is the killer because she doesn’t know what the Spiral Symbol means and Danvers knows her and would have picked up on her dual personalities. Let’s say for theory sake she had dual personalities- why would she kill Annie?
This season is the worst of the 4. NO detecting has happened. The supernatural stuff is horrendous. I don’t care about any of these characters. Extremely disappointing.
The whole point of creating entertainment franchises is to keep the various iterations close to the original show that spawned the franchise. What fans loved about the first show was the story of two men in conflict with themselves and each other working as a team in conflict with a great evil. It said something very contemporary about not letting our differences blind us to the important values we share. It's not an easy concept and they should never have made season 4 without Nick Pizzolatto.
I'm liking the show, but it definitely feels like this would have been better a movie. So far i feel like we barely got anywhere with all the clues and investigating. Sometimes watching the show weekly makes it feel boring. But sometimes i rewatch a show in a row. Im a lot more engaged.
The show has way too much emotional filler. It focuses on the main characters and mental illness/drama with little advancement in the mystery of the case and why.
Story plot idea is great itself but execution just disappoints. Even though actors are good there is no chemistry between 2 main characters whatsoever. Screeplay needs work but it is too late anyways.
I think it was multiple people in the town. While yes, one person could’ve done the 32 stabs, it’s known a lot of people didn’t like Annie. I could see multiple big people in the town (Kate mine owner, Hank, Connelly, and others).
I thought that at the end of this weeks episode it said coming on Friday? But IMDB says the 18th so I still can’t tell. The have bummed Sunday release episodes to Friday on other Super Bowl weekends and have skipped that week in the past so… ?
New episode will be available to stream this Friday, 02/09. HBO always streams episodes of a show that airs on the same night as the Super Bowl early so it doesn’t have to compete with the superbowl for live viewership ratings
I'll be upset if all these great easter eggs end up not meaning anything, like the symbol on the skating ring windows. And how did the deputy get Annie's phone unlocked so easily?
if yall likethis check out Fortitude, it got a couple seasons, its got so many similartiies its wild, just a bit more horror vibe but equally great if not better depending on the next 2 eps of TD:NC
the saddest scene was that guy waiting for that girl at the airport. whent home and started taking the rose pedals off the bed .sad man . everyone was alone too
I just found out there is no next week. The show doesn’t want to compete with the Stupor Bowl, so we have to wait until the 18th. I'm curious to see how they will wrap it all up with just 2 more episodes. Other RUclipsrs are going down some strange rabbit holes. I was just about to go to sleep when your video popped up. Yay! Now I can go to bed in peace...

Last time I had so much fun was in season 1. Those who hate S4 are just proving their utter ignorance of Native American cultures. Rust, by the way, had visions too, he saw things. Yet no one ever questioned how cool he was, on the contrary, we all loved him for it. I think he would have been a big fan of season 4. Thanks for your videos! ps: Amazing what they did with Q taking care of his female dog that got into a fight, and then there was Evangeline. Love is magic, connection is real. 🐻❄❄️
It is not fair, and basically ridiculous, to say "Those who hate S4 are just proving their utter ignorance towards Native American culture". I can't wrap my head around why anyone has this kind of thought process...
The water being poisoned by the mine and causing people (and animals) to go suicidal seems like the most obvious theory to me. And Navarro is definitely having hallucinations. If I had to guess, I would say Hank Prior is the killer simply because he's the only supporting character being played by a recognizable actor.
@@Watcher4111 Navarro's sister was mentally ill, so she could be a schizophrenic too (genetics). But there has to be a reason the caribou were jumping off cliffs. The water supply being poisoned by the mine could explain that.
i think the detuned radio could have been an attempted for danvers to block out her thoughts so she could sleep . i thought the bleeding ear may have indicated a fractured skull ?
This season feels like there just wasn't the budget to pull off a series as good as season 1 ..season 1 felt like a movie..season 4 feels like the last season of game of thrones
This season is not living up into a true mysterious investigation. It feels more like an examination of interpersonal relationships. There is mental illness, father son issues, cheating, a guy being catfish, etc. The mystery of this show is hardly examined. Starting to feel more like a lifetime show talking about human nature then a mystery. The show is called True Detective lol.
I have a feeling that Qavik may know more than we expect. He looked shaken after Navarro showed him the rock with the spiral and kept it after she left to go to meet Liz.
Everyone has personal demons and sadness. The darkness is from inside. The past keeps holding them back. Nakedness is a sign of freedom. Remove the binding articles and be free. The smiling face 🌝 is what this shows needs. Happiness!
Hinting , I really would call going towards a SLEEPER . I love the series but this started very slow, dragging out character development Long, long scenes. I'm almost done watching , my wife is now done , I'm now disappointed , Jodie F, is a great actor but writers are not giving good content . You can have great actors but , when it's not believable it's not worthy .
I’m really trying to give this a chance but some of this dialogue is really bad. Jodie Foster “Ghost’s don’t exist.” 2 seconds later “I know you saw a ghost.” huh?
It's starting to feel like Season 3 where it had a hot intriguing start but slowly declined as the season went on, ending with a lack luster finale. I'm not so hopeful this show can land the plane successfully in the last 2 episodes
I was digging night country the first 3 episodes. Disappointed by the episode and overall pacing of the season. Loved wp 3. This one dropped the ball. Still have high hopes for the conclusion of the story
The writing in this season is at about an eighth-grade level. Four episodes in, and I don't believe any of the characters; their motivations, fears, animosities and alleged histories are hollow. It's almost like they took Nicholson's quip about writing female characters as direction.
The biggest disappointment and downgrade of a tv show from GoT last season you have to believe me, this season has absolutely nothing to do with Detectives at all rather a horror fictional story with jump scares at every 15 mins and bunch of non sens between. Plot is so poorly written that even Chat GPT could make a better scenario, well, when u bring a writer like Issa Lopez ,which only has catastrophes directed and written, you doomed the show to failure.
I love true detective season 1 was peak cinema season 2 was Atrocious. Season 3 had its moments but this show here it’s not true detective it may carry the name but it’s something altogether different. It may actually have been watchable if they attached a different name to it.
this show is so bad, even youtube reviewers have no idea what is going on. everybody has random theories, but nobody actually likes or even cares about the characters. it is a bummer because I really wanted to like this show.
@@mariam2964 not everything bad is woke. Nobody can say that. But this is bad because it's woke. It's literally pushing every liberal agenda there is. Bad writing/directing/producing is a big fault too.
I didnt think it was that bad...? I didnt like how she repeated it several times though.
4 episodes in and what the fudge is it about ? I’ve heard the term ‘slow burner , but fluff me this is baaaad First true detective series I’ve watched , are they all shite like this one ?
Yeah, maybe some of these shows should just be one season of awesome and not try to needlessly drag out stories just because the studios want to squeeze them dry.
@@BrainPilotIt would be a good idea for everybody to just store S1 in the back of their brain for now, quit comparing seasons, then kick back and enjoy S4 with an open mind. ✌🏼
I liked (not loved) this episode. It felt like a ‘regroup’ type of episode & provided more insight to all of the major characters. My concern is knowing there only two episodes left & will they resolve the murders? Will they provide some closure to some of these characters?? Will the ending be satisfying?? I hope for the best. Great acting by all, btw.
Your synopsis is floored how can a explanation of mercury poisoning be ignored to follow a path of science fiction true detective is not a sci fi show. If they took that path it would be the end of the show. Its a red herring its so obvious..trying to change the direction of a show to suit your own preference.
Is there a thing called "hate viewing?" (like "watching a TV series grudgingly?) Well, this is my take on this lousy boring second-hand show - - I watch it as if it were a parody on True Detective 1....
I'm sure Navarro's going to question that guy who works at Qaaviks bar the day she had her freak out. Then we'll aee a flashback cause we still havent seen that part where throws her tray down and yells 😮
Could it just be people suffering from the poison in the drinking water? Bleeding ears and blindness are also things that happen to people from mercury poisoning and lead poisoning.
Someone else could've left the rock and drawn the spiral on cardboard, then taken Oliver against his will. We have two other guys running around, plus Navarre.
This community is being poisoned and epidemics of mental illness and death are apparent. There are important characters being left out of this, as the mining operation will have leaders we have not met. Why?
her dbl. personality and the spirit..even the title sequnce has a dis-claimer about mental illness. just my theory. loving this season tho.@@BrainPilot
Disappointed but not surprised that Jodie Foster would sign on to a poorly written woke mini novella. I was already disappointed in the first episode but then when the teenage girls start kissing, that’s enough for me. I’m out.
Sooo far I've loved everything except the characters (and a few other things, lolol). The story's great. The S01 opening was stellar! 'She's awake!' The characters however are a real weakness. Even the ghost/ spirit characters are s***! Do they really need that stupid-ass voice? Do they need to just scream looking horrific? Weak-ass ghosts! The most interesting (and least annoying) character is Rose, but you'll be lucky to see more than 5 minutes of her per episode And Jodie Foster, Danvers, she's just a grumpateer sex addict who also likes fantasy football and hates the Beatles. Damn, what a waste of a perfectly good Jodie Foster! I mean seriously, how do we go from Rust's character to this s*** show of characters? Even Frank (from S02) had his nonsensical idioms. Don't misinterpret, i love it! The story is dope... its story driven bros an sisses! But what makes a good charter is a philosophy like that of Rusts! Why can't we have interesting characters?? Facial piercings, fantasy football, mail-order brides, the man-boy/cop workaholic, the Inuit (just there to Inuit seriously), the mad scientist to errr mad scientist... yeaaaaah. Stellar cast, great atmosphere,. great soundtrack (minus that Billy song), I, unlike Danvers am a Beatles/ Ferris Bueller's Day Off fan! I digress, can't wait for the, wait, final 2? Say, whaaaaat? 2 episodes? Ha-ha, f*** you too HBO! I think it's very supernatural this season so it better darn well see it though! Please dont backtrack on us now, give us a lovecraftian crescendo into the supernatural, you've been polar bear spoon feeding us don't stop now🐻❄️🐻❄️🐻❄️! Oh and "she's awaaaake"!!! Did you notice it has an eye gone, like the bear and the stuffed bear? And of course, the guy wearing it has a blind left eye too.
I think that Rust brought the symbol to Alaska. It was his trailer that Clarke bought. Rust put the symbol in the trailer because he was still trying to put away everyone involved in the yellow king case.
I'd love it if that was the case!
Rust is the yellow king
Best episode yet!! Chilling, thrilling, heartbreakingly tragic and very intense. 😮 👀 😢
It definitely was all five of those things!
1:32 in the video. who is the woman on the wall behind liz?
Good catch. Could be the local goddess/legend Sedna everyone online keeps referring to
I had to watched the recap here because I felt asleep for parts of the episode.
Thank you 😊 ❤❤
Now this may be wayyyyy off lol but ever since I heard, I believe was the director say we are going to see the murderer throughout the episodes.
That’s interesting, but I think it could be Hank too
@@lauramcguanI agree. Hank gives me serial killer vibes too
This female director changes this season, choosing female leads.
@@rosalindharold8860 she doesn't have dual personalities. Nothing even suggests that.
Wonder if Navarros sister's body comes back in a state of fright, with burnt corneas.
People crap on Season 2 but I put that season way up there compared to this season, a las 4 episodes in.
Love your videos, thanks ❤
Glad you like them!
Is it confirmed that there won’t be a new episode next week due to the Super Bowl on Feb 11? Will it be 2 weeks until episode 5?
I believe it’s on Friday night
@@KalispellBarbell imdb says 18 and 25. I think they're skipping a week.
There is a new episode this week. It will be available to stream Friday, February 02/09/2024. HBO always releases shows that air the same night as the Super Bowl early.
As of 2/5 HBO says Part 5 airs 2/11 still
It clearly said Friday after the end credits trailer. Yay won't have to wait as long but that'll give us extra days to digest before the finale 😮
How many spirals do we need to see? They’re everywhere. This season is awful.
Navarro saw strange things long before water got bad. As 1 ep show, water went bad on first Day of night
@@Watcher4111 Navarro's sister was mentally ill, so she could be a schizophrenic too (genetics). But there has to be a reason the caribou were jumping off cliffs. The water supply being poisoned by the mine could explain that.
The whole murder mystery gives up a Dyatlov pass incident wibe...
If there's one flaw I had to find it's that there's just so much of the spiral symbol. Like it's almost an Ennis logo
Lol!
i think the detuned radio could have been an attempted for danvers to block out her thoughts so she could sleep . i thought the bleeding ear may have indicated a fractured skull ?
I like a good mystery. This has been enjoyable.
Definitely!
Leaning way 2 much on season 1, its just getting worse and worse
This season feels like there just wasn't the budget to pull off a series as good as season 1 ..season 1 felt like a movie..season 4 feels like the last season of game of thrones
This season is not living up into a true mysterious investigation. It feels more like an examination of interpersonal relationships. There is mental illness, father son issues, cheating, a guy being catfish, etc. The mystery of this show is hardly examined. Starting to feel more like a lifetime show talking about human nature then a mystery. The show is called True Detective lol.
totally and what GOT season 7 should have been to explain who the Night King really was
I have a feeling that Qavik may know more than we expect. He looked shaken after Navarro showed him the rock with the spiral and kept it after she left to go to meet Liz.
That’s a good point to be fair! I suppose it’ll be interesting to see what happens with that rock now
Why that guy has a kid thoothbrush to begin with?
Lead poisoning from the mine.
Everyone has personal demons and sadness. The darkness is from inside. The past keeps holding them back. Nakedness is a sign of freedom. Remove the binding articles and be free. The smiling face 🌝 is what this shows needs. Happiness!
I hate this season. I wish it was good
Hinting , I really would call going towards a SLEEPER . I love the series but this started very slow, dragging out character development Long, long scenes. I'm almost done watching , my wife is now done , I'm now disappointed , Jodie F, is a great actor but writers are not giving good content . You can have great actors but , when it's not believable it's not worthy .
They decided to use the “TRUE DETECTIVE” to trick us into watching a “THE OUTSIDER” show that’s isn’t 10% as good 😂
Last two episodes have been that slow I've fallen asleep , I hope the final episodes liven up a bit ,
That's a shame! With two episodes remaining I feel it will definitely step up
I’m really trying to give this a chance but some of this dialogue is really bad.
Let's just hope it can!
How in the world did the Coast Guard ID her sister so fast? She was naked. I understand it is a small town but that was lazy writing.
I was digging night country the first 3 episodes. Disappointed by the episode and overall pacing of the season. Loved wp 3. This one dropped the ball. Still have high hopes for the conclusion of the story
Yeah I think the final two episodes will definitely be the stand outs for sure!
I hate her for killing Villanelle 😂
The show is way too on the nose with symbolism. Navarro is unbearable. Episode 4 ruined the show.
Are the people that hate on this season still watching it? Thought so.....
The writing in this season is at about an eighth-grade level. Four episodes in, and I don't believe any of the characters; their motivations, fears, animosities and alleged histories are hollow. It's almost like they took Nicholson's quip about writing female characters as direction.
@@BlackEcology Sure. Just send me your email.
Glad to. Just send me your email address.@@BlackEcology
This was definitely the worst episode in the series. If the final two don’t deliver I’m gonna be pissed.
Not getting better, what a let down
I love true detective season 1 was peak cinema season 2 was Atrocious. Season 3 had its moments but this show here it’s not true detective it may carry the name but it’s something altogether different. It may actually have been watchable if they attached a different name to it.
This has "the klling" original Swedish "forbreydelsen" vibes
Idk why everyone is hating on this season it’s very interesting also it’s harder to solve. Which is good
this show is so bad, even youtube reviewers have no idea what is going on. everybody has random theories, but nobody actually likes or even cares about the characters. it is a bummer because I really wanted to like this show.
That lady can’t act you’re being too nice
this show stinks. I have no clue how it has 92% on rotten tomatoes
Because it's woke. Female director, mental health, environmentalism, lgbtq, etc.
@@zzz7zzz9 God, everything bad is "woke". Then you say this series lacks imagination! JFC
@@mariam2964 not everything bad is woke. Nobody can say that. But this is bad because it's woke. It's literally pushing every liberal agenda there is. Bad writing/directing/producing is a big fault too.
Overhyping True Detective led us to this 😂
I want to like this show.
I almost tapped out though when Liz called Eve a liar for not admitting she saw a ghost at a crime scene.
That's fair! Yeah that moment has proved to be divisive
I didnt think it was that bad...? I think Eve knew she was just straight up lying to her face, and that they both knew it, and she was almost in shock she would do her like that and wanted to say something cutting. shes a deeply hurt/repressed/callous woman from her tragedy .... i think it lines with the character. I didnt like how she repeated it several times though.
i think the murder will be someone we are not expecting like Pete or Quavic. but why?
Yeah it feels like that could happen doesn't it!
I'm really hoping this isn't going down the "Lost" path and we ultimately discover that "The Night Country" is Hell.
This is the 4th episode, is normal to be a filler, next one is gonna ramp up
Yeah exactly, always happens before the end!
4 episodes in and what the fudge is it about ? I’ve heard the term ‘slow burner , but fluff me this is baaaad
First true detective series I’ve watched , are they all shite like this one ?
You should watch Season 1! It's one of the best detective dramas stories i've seen! S1 is top shelf stuff.
@@BrainPilotthank you I will give it a try :)
The more episodes the more it disappoints
Do you think? I'd say this one wasn't as good as last week but i'm expecting the level to be upped next episode!
Has no one seen Fallen with Denzel Washington 🤦🏻♂️
You ruined Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. Glad you found a show YOU liked to give commentary to. Didn't want your time wasted, right?
Nothing will beat season 1 and that’s that 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, maybe some of these shows should just be one season of awesome and not try to needlessly drag out stories just because the studios want to squeeze them dry.
S1 is definitely unbeatable! I'm just trying to not compare it to S1 as I know it will never win!
@@BrainPilotIt would be a good idea for everybody to just store S1 in the back of their brain for now, quit comparing seasons, then kick back and enjoy S4 with an open mind. ✌🏼
Brilliant episode. Damn the nay sayers, they seem hellbent to shit all over it.
I'm wondering what that spider was that was drawn on the wall where they found Otis. Could that be some reference to HP Lovecraft?? 🕷️
Going back over Season 1, you will see the parallels of the story and characters.
Blair witch 2 book of shadows
Could it just be people suffering from the poison in the drinking water?
Bleeding ears and blindness are also things that happen to people from mercury poisoning and lead poisoning.
Hmmmm...! Interesting thought!
They need to bring the writer of the last 3 seasons back cuz this show sucks ass.
HBO is officially done, RIP
Someone else could've left the rock and drawn the spiral on cardboard, then taken Oliver against his will. We have two other guys running around, plus Navarre.
oozes bad vibes
This community is being poisoned and epidemics of mental illness and death are apparent. There are important characters being left out of this, as the mining operation will have leaders we have not met. Why?
tell my mommy
Navarro is the killer, she has a split personality and lost her marbles.
Do you think? That would be pretty cool!
Explain how she could have killed and froze all the scientists? And why did she kill annie?
my guess, and its a wild one, is the killer is Navarro. they keep bringing up "mental heatlth issues"
I'll be intrigued to see how they reveal it if she does get revealed to be the killer!
her dbl. personality and the spirit..even the title sequnce has a dis-claimer about mental illness. just my theory. loving this season tho.@@BrainPilot
Navarro? no no no! You should know that in a shitty Woke piece like this - the murderer should be white! and of course male!
This show stinks!
Great show. But then I hated Season 1 and loved Season 2. Maybe I'm just too woke! /s
Supernatural stuff was not needed. Absolutely trash season n unlikeable characters. All men are weak n walked all over
I remind you that in season 1 were also supernatural elements like cohle sees vortex, cohle sees birds form spiral, yellow King references.
this season sucked bad.
'She's awake!'
The characters however are a real weakness. Even the ghost/ spirit characters are s***! Do they really need that stupid-ass voice? Do they need to just scream looking horrific? Weak-ass ghosts! The most interesting (and least annoying) character is Rose, but you'll be lucky to see more than 5 minutes of her per episode
And Jodie Foster, Danvers, she's just a grumpateer sex addict who also likes fantasy football and hates the Beatles.
Nonono, my kitties awake, she needs her kibble and tuna, must crack on🐱🐈⬛ - talk to the paw 🐾!
