I think it's a bit overloaded and pretentious the way they try to build up all this wacky cult madness, depraved mystery, horror genre touches, corruption, despoiling of the planet, conspiracy, etc. But the visuals are well-done, and the acting is pretty strong if the plot lines and writing are a bit forced much of the time. In Season 1, files from the Tuttle schools were lost to a flood. Now Pete’s dad had Annie’s files hidden in his house because of a flood. He’s in on the cult somehow
Definitely a connection, if not on the inside then some kind of blackmail situation. Maybe Tuttle United has a cloven hoof in the door invested in the Russian mail order bride industry & that's Hank's payoff for sitting on the Annie files.

Think Story's breakdown brought up how when Navarro talks to the dude about the trailer, he mentions his cousin died of Leukimia. He also goes to say that maybe Travis came back to finish his business bc he already knew he was dying and wanted to set things right before his eventual demise. I think that would be so cool of that turned out to be true.
I think the spiral looks like an aerial photograph of the icy tundra and depicts cliff or ridge lines in the topography. I also think the scientists weren’t out on the ice as long as everyone thinks. What if Clark was experimenting on them with something he extracted from one of his microorganisms?
And guess who has producer credits on this season.. Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson! Not sure if this is just a contract residual from season one, but Matthew and Jodi Foster did star in the late 90s Sci-fi classic "Contact" and have remained dear friends. Fingers crossed we get Rust back on the small screen for TDNC!!
About the spiral - have you noticed Rose looking towards the specific direction after telling Navarro about the sign? She doesn’t say much, except that it’s older then the city, older then the ice. Right after that, camera points at a mountain/hill (she’s supposedly looking at) in a far distance. Maybe there’s something about this specific mountain? Maybe if you look at it on the map, the isolines give you THE SPIRAL? This scene is at ~12:40 mins of the show. Maybe this specific place is the key?
I'm thinking the spiral and in the trailer for future episodes it shows a man climbing a ladder up a tunnel with black circles around the tunnel. If it's long enough as you look down it would indeed look like a spiral as it decends
The spiral symbol is used by pedophiles to represent boy love according to the FBI (people may recall this from the whole Pizza gate thing) so it made sense to associate it with the Tuttles. Now since references to S1 are being shoe-horned into Night Country they just changed the meaning.
Along the shore the cloud waves break, The twin suns sink behind the lake, The shadows lengthen In Carcosa. Strange is the night where black stars rise, And strange moons circle through the skies, But stranger still is Lost Carcosa. Songs that the Hyades shall sing, Where flap the tatters of the King, Must die unheard in Dim Carcosa. Song of my soul, my voice is dead, Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed Shall dry and die in Lost Carcosa.
The water going bad in a isolated community would be high priority but it is barely mentioned and not investigated at all. It all reeks of conspiracy and coverup, and everyone seems connected somehow.
Hate this say this but it’s really not that surprising especially since it is primarily bad in the indigenous community. Irl the American government doesn’t care about us much and on our reservations there’s barley any drinkable water that’s not bottled or had to be boiled, plus Flint Michigan has been without clean water for 5 years, so unfortunately I don’t think it’s major for the show in the sense of it being cult related, more so seemingly like it’s a tie in for real world issues yk?
@Polaris_616 Unfortunately, water is an everybody issue. Especially given that corporations like Nestle steals millions of gallons of water from any and everywhere! They don't pay a dime for it, but continue to pump, sometimes until tributaries run dry. And they aren't the only water corporations to do this. This is why I don't buy anything Nestle anymore, and sadly they own a lot of brands. I know that it's much worse in Indigenous communities, as well as rural and urban areas without a lot of funding. I'm not trying to downplay the horrific realities within these communities. However, during many of my master's degree courses, it's always a topic of discussion that water is going to cause a massive war, because of it being a finite resource, and the way that we misuse it, pollute it, over-consume it, the reality of medications are now being found in ground water as well as water from the tap. Then we have to think about the microplastics being found in the water systems, and we consume them, as well as all life. Then I think about soil erosion, chemical runoff, as well as all of illegal dumping of chemicals. We are actively destroying a resource we need to survive as a species. By we, I'm talking about around the Globe. Countries that have less environmental protections, and all of the horrific runoff from companies and corporations, who are dying clothes, as well as those who don't care about what they're throwing into the water, over fishing...the destruction of ecosystems like the coral reefs, entire sections of tributaries that harvest NO LIFE, not even algae. It is seriously scary shit, when you start to really buckle down and start doing the research. I personally think the water issues they're having plays directly into this show. We always want to think it's some scary monster doing all of this, but in reality we don't need monsters when we have human beings. We do a fine enough job at destroying ourselves and the environment around us...that monsters would probably be more afraid of us, and try to hightail it out of here as quickly as possible! I also believe that's part of the research they're conducting at the Tsalal Research Center. I think that some of their research is going to show that they uncovered proof that human life, as we know it, is over. Between how quickly the ice caps are melting, the extreme changes in potable/drinkable water, the scarcity that we're already witnessing. And one of the biggest problems with drinkable water today is bottled water. The water bottle industry is a scam. How they directly effect our water resources is absolutely reprehensible. If you're into documentaries, I'd suggest watching Flow. You'll never want to touch bottled water ever again. But I also know that it's sometimes the only water source available to many, which is tragic in its own right. I'm so sorry that your communities are still treated so disgustingly, by the US government. I wish that I could be helping in some fashion, besides donating and signing petitions. Unfortunately, I got very sick in the middle of my master's program, and had to take medical leave. Had I not had to take medical leave, I would be either working with an Indigenous organization in Washington State or with an organization called Amazon Watch, where I would have been working aside and with Indigenous communities, such as the Kayapo Tribe, who lived on a tributary off of the Amazon River called the Xingu River. Since my Sophomore year in Undergrad, I've been wanting to work with Indigenous communities. I have always said that we (by we I mean colonizers...those who want to keep up with the Jones) need to pay more attention and learn from the ways Indigenous communities live, as well as sustain themselves, their communities, and even others, because they're obviously doing something right. The Kayapo Tribe lived in that area of the Xingu River for 1000s of years, and that land remained healthy and still continued to sustain their community, in abundance. That is until so-called developed cities, corporations, and shareholders with deep blood-lined pockets deemed it necessary to displace 100k Indigenous communities, because they wanted to destroy the natural flow of the river, by building the world's 3rd largest Hydroelectric Damn, on the Xingu River. Sadly, the damn only works 20% of the year, and 80% of the electricity created goes to surrounding cities. Again, I'm so very sorry for the mistreatment your community as well as all other Indigenous communities face, from the US Government.
I think I just found a new show to binge watch! Thank you! Also, I don't know if it's just me but you look like you're getting younger. Keep doing what you're doing Ryan.
So good was on the edge of my seat throughout. Glad it's like the incredible 1st season with different cultures and intrigue. Please continue covering this series 🙏🏿 love the cast
I like the connections and the sense of a larger world of darkness. It's been so piecemeal in how I've watched the other seasons that I don't remember much of the allusions in seasons 2 and 3. I'm enjoying the slow reveals so far! I struggled with the finale of season 1, so the chance for it all to keep unfolding makes me want to keep watching.
When speaking about “one eye references” it made me think about how in episode 1 when Danvers looks at the tongue on the floor she uses one eye lens on her pair of glasses to examine it.
Did you see the hatch door in the opening sequence? Looks like a submarine hatch door or a an airlock door. Rapid decompression can cause broken air drums and skin burns. Perhaps, they were released at the bottom of the ocean below the ice. Surfacing and getting trapped. Maybe they reincarnated the girl from the bacteria they found in ice cores.
When I was watching it this week after seeing McConaughey’s name again as EP in the credits and then all the very obvious nods to Rust I saw an interview with Jodie Foster where he was mentioned and whatever way she put it (it was the kimmel one from a couple of weeks ago) and when you put everything together it does actually sound like there’s a chance he might pop up in it. Which I think would be amazing as it’s not only his best character but I rewatched it before season 4 and he’s honestly one of the best characters on tv, just excellent… would be so cool and the way this whole series is done i don’t think it would be specifically fan service but I think this season is kind of doing what a lot of people have wanted since season one and is tying the seasons together. When you create the kind of magic they did in that first season it’s hard not to long for it or compare the rest of it to that.
these breakdowns are fabulous 🥳 i’m loving watching a thriller with no true source material to speculate from. it’s really a fun puzzle. these videos have been delicious! thanks for all your hard work and attn to details, as always
The double spiral petroglyphs are also likely a reference to an indigenous PNW tribes goddess called Tsagaglalal…aka “She Who Watches”. The markings/drawings are identical to the petroglyphs found in the PNW.
I think it’s going to revealed that Clark killed Annie K as some sort of sacrifice. That’s why he was crying alone sometimes. Whatever they are doing at the mine is causing the water to turn black, so maybe the water was contaminated early on and started effecting people to causing delusions. Not sure what happened to the scientists yet. I haven’t pieced that together
I think of the woman in the crab factory who is asked to look at the image of the spiral, she gives it a quick look and leaves the scene, but she does it in a strange way and the shot pays some attention to it, at least it seems so, if there is something that true detective has taught us it is not to leave these apparently random encounters to chance, or perhaps the series wants to mislead us by making us notice it, in any case she didn't convince me very much
I’m loving the show so far. It’s so creepy and eerie and I love it. Very interested to see where they’re going with the season 1 connections. Thanks for these breakdowns!
Anyone notice the drawing of the "Earth's layers" looks A LOT like the spiral drawing? They're both strangely triangular. No fanbase at this is a coincidence.
I have no idea if it’s a significant tie in - or just a clever reference - but there’s a scene where Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) gets a call from dispatch when she’s in her car - saying to go see a ‘Chuck Mosley’ at the mine. Chuck Mosley is the original singer of the alternative rock band Faith No More, which is a pretty ominous phrase - and fitting for the vibe of the show.
Such a great breakdown. The other thing I noticed is that the opening sequence is extremely similar to the opening of 1974's THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. And, like TRUE DETECTIVE, that film series would also feature Matthew McConaughey. There are some other TCSM allusions in season one. (Lots of antler/bone imagery and the name "Childress")
@@Magicman1625 True... maybe not on record for some reason? Rust said him to be some kind of a survivalist, maybe he somehow managed to get an unofficial diagnosis?
the yeti is also a refence to the infamous Russian student hiker story. they all froze to death, ran out of tents unclothed, saw something. might have been a russian nuclear test. they might have died at soldiers hands,, or many think it was a yeti. thats what came to mind immediately when she said it to me. its s circle man
Or you can Occam razor it and a slab of snow shifted and hit them with a small slower avalanche while they were sleeping. Doesn't seem mysterious at all to me
@@JohnnyZ_8researchers recently believed it was a slab avalanche but still a weird incident due to the injuries, radioactivity, and missing tongues/eyes/eyebrows/etc
The importance of antlers and Annie's stabbing. On the other hand, every time I see Fiona Shaw on screen, I don't see Aunt Petunia anymore but a great actress!
Great breakdown, I dunno though. its in my mind to maybe expect Rust Cole to show up now, would of preferred it to be a complete surprise, I might catch up with these breakdowns after the season's over to fully understand and see what I missed
In true detective season 1, Betty Childress also mentions the water being bad. Maybe this is a connection between the location of evil and its effects on the environment
That's a reasonable theory, very plausible. The dialogue has already included several references to the water having gone bad and the power system going erratic.
Danvers is big on asking the right questions. Rust said the same thing when he was being interviewed at the end of Ep1 in the first season. Fun call back
Haha I was actually saying to myself that he looks identical to the cgi version of Leon Kennedy from the original Resident Evil 2 game lol. He looks 90s as fuck in this show and I love it.
I think thw Tuttle family found something on Alaska that could be related to their cult, consodering the symbol and how Rose said the symbol is older than the ice, that is very At fhe Mountain of Madness/The Thing
That Ferris Bueller clip is really interesting to me. First, the lyrics show the singer controlling others to dance, sing and shout, indicating posession ("let me know that you're mine"). Then, the Ferris part is weird because Ferris lip-syncs to the song, as if he is being used as a channel or vehicle for the true singer. Next, in the film and shown in the True Detective show, Ferris's charm gets others to dance, writhe, sing, and shake, as if he's infectious with a kind of magic power. We see a construction worker or window cleaner laugh and dance a little when invited to by the camera crew of the film.
This episode reminded me of Event Horizon. Where the magnetic fields from the black hole possibly caused internal brain damage that sparked seeing painful memories and dead people.
I don't think Rust Cohle is returning, but it's possible he gets a name drop. Hard to envision Matthew McConaughey coming back to the show for half an episode near the end, and I'm not even sure what value that would add to the narrative.
Yeah, him and Woody Harrelson are executive producing the fourth season (edit: they did that with season two and three as well apparently) so hopefully they either bring themselves back although why why would they risk that but hopefully they add in whatever they brought into season one somehow
The her cold fingers bit could possibly be a reference to Sedna. A woman from an Inuit myth who had her fingers cut off after being thrown into the icy water. Can’t fully recall the full myth but seems fitting for the icy dark area they are in.
super stoked you guys are continuing coverage on this show. What was up with the one frozen scientist screaming at the beginning? Was he alive? Was that who the nurse on the phone was talking to Danvers about? How could that be possible?
I'm not exactly sure how it's possible (that he was still alive), but yes, that's who the nurse talking to Danvers is talking about. His arm (I think it was his arm?) was broken off, which lead to him screaming. According the phone call, he is now in a coma and will need to get a leg amputated.
What's happening in those mines reminded me what Saruman says about Moria in The Fellowhsip of the Ring: "Moria... You fear to go into those mines. The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame"
Linking this season to season one through the Tuttle is genuis tuttles family got away scot free at the end of season one i think it make sense that theyre rather influential through US politics hopefully they tie the past with the present otherwise this episode was significantly improved from the first and im continued to enjoy this season's mystery.
Travis is absolutely Rust’s father, so along with the symbolism of the spiral, the Tuttles, the trailer having the exact same dolls, bones, and ‘decorations’ as where the bodies were found and the church at the end of S1, the links are definitive now that this is a continuation or climax of S1. I noticed that there is a dialogue link between Danvers and Rust too. They both say the same line about asking the wrong questions to prod people to think more deeply. They were possibly trained/mentored by the same person or could have worked together at some point. Or…my insane idea…could Rust and Danvers be siblings? 😮 I do think Rust and maybe even Marty will show up this season. It might be how their story wraps up. Rust sacrificing himself to stop the supernatural event and Marty bringing down the Tuttles once and for all. That would leave Danvers and Navarro to be central characters in someway moving forward.
Great episode. To contribute, the shifty miner Chuck Mosley has the same name as a former Faith No More vocalist. Maybe he'll be more than just a miner character after all.
Great breakdown. The video mentioned crows and their connection to death and it reminded me of True Detective Season 2 when Velcoro went to check out that house and he was stabbed by someone wearing a bird mask (or crow mask?) It's been a while since I saw it so I'm fuzzy on the details.
I think it’s incredibly under rated and forgotten HOW GOOD the creepy music and the flashbacks tying into present day and how well they were filmed made the carcosa/yellow king mystery that much more sinister. Remember those distorted church bell sounds from season 1? Get the chills just thinking about them. With that being said, I enjoy this season alot so far and it’s creepy in its own right, but makes you appreciate t bone Burnett and fukanaga that much more.
What I've noticed is how funky and mismatched many of the music injections are. Stuff like the Beach Boys singing "Little Saint Nick" over a scene that is bleak and foreboding. I assume this is intentional as a warping of the usual expectations about music being in sync with a scene, but to me it just seems a little too cute.
I haven’t seen any mention to this, but I think there has to be significance to the differences in this spiral and the one from season 1. They’re reversed.
I suspect if Rust does return, it will be in the same way Travis has done...it's ten years since the time of season 1 and I don't think Rust is with the living anymore; he said he had to pay his debt in Louisiana before "tying it off," meaning his life...I think he probably found out he had some kind of cancer, like his father
If you look at one of the teasers (not trailers) of the season, there is another shot of the scene where delivery guy stands in a corridor and something runs buy. In that shot you can clearly see that the person running is wearing the same parka that Clark took from Annie.
To add to that... it's interesting that there's a conversation to be had about who's parker is who's in the film "the thing" while trying to figure out who the thing was.
Of course my obsessive self put on S1 of True Detective. New theory: Rust notes in S1, ep 2 that his 2 yr old daughter died in a car accident. Danvers son and husband seem to have died the same way. What if Rust was living or visiting Alaska and driving drunk? He could be responsible for the death of Danvers son and husband and his own daughter? It would be especially earth shattering if he and Danvers are related. It explains his profound sadness and could be another link to Danvers.
Also the colour blue makes lots of aperances throughout the first two episodes. Hank paints the room blue, Anne Ks hair had blue streaks in it, Angies sisters hair is all blue and the Blue King. No idea what it all means but worth pointing out
Native Hebrew speaker here. The word Tsalal does not mean to grow dark/dark. The website translation this is taken from takes the translation from the book of Nehemiah where an excerpt describes how Jerusalem's doors have darkened (ויהי כאשר צללו שערי ירושלים). The word that is being used in that excerpt is tsalelo (tsel meaning shadow) The direct and literal translation to the word Tsalal (צלל) would be 'To dive'.
I haven’t read comments, but anyone notice it’s an exact excerpt from The Dark Tower? “The fabric of things is thin and the world is old” is almost word for word. They called spots like that a Thinny. And guess who was The Man in Black, aka Red King? Matthew M. And they also had similar facilities at the Beam stations in Dark Tower. Then there’s “The gunslinger fled across the desert, and the man in black followed.” It’s literally called The Wasteland. If that’s not an Ennis type place, nothing is. In season 1, the Iron Crusader dude literally said “I need a gunslinger.” Again, Roland was literally the last Gunslinger.
There was that scene with the fake band poster on the wall. The band’s name was “Metal” and it was written with the Metallica band logo font. Metallica has a song about the Lovecraft Mythos called “The Thing that Should Not Be” on the Master of Puppets album. The lyrics touch on a lot of the points mentioned in your video here.
What are your theories?
There are a lot of images showing people pointing in this episode. The angular spiral symbol looks a lot like the coiling of your fingers when pointing. I think this version of the yellow sign "points" to something else, just not sure what.
The symbol is a reference to the Night King symbol in GoT he was leaving. True Detective is basically a GoT spinoff

They produced S2 and S3 too
Worst idea ever.
I pray that they aren’t that stupid
@@dreamsneezer8668 Why would Mathew and Woody being in this season be stupid?
Because this season is awful.
You might be on to something there. I'm going to have to watch for that next episode.
I'm thinking the spiral and in the trailer for future episodes it shows a man climbing a ladder up a tunnel with black circles around the tunnel.
If it's long enough as you look down it would indeed look like a spiral as it decends
Mountain of madness
I agree. As soon as I saw the spiral in the Podcast I recognized it as an aerial photograph. The lines depict the topography. A dormant volcano?
The spiral symbol is used by pedophiles to represent boy love according to the FBI (people may recall this from the whole Pizza gate thing) so it made sense to associate it with the Tuttles. Now since references to S1 are being shoe-horned into Night Country they just changed the meaning.
Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa.
Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.
Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa.
Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.
Never crossed my mind until now, Tuttle wears a yellow tie and pocket scarf. Strong refrence to the yellow king.
I'm glad you guys are covering the show
I love that you are covering this. We nerds do love other shows besides the ones based on comics. :)
I'm really glad you are covering this season/series. Not many other channels are. You have great breakdowns/explainers. Thanks
You put so much work into these - I love it! Many things I missed, now I need to rewatch!
Rose says "Travis Cole" so it's not a "theory".
Not sure how they missed that major detail.
Cohle
@@kdizzle901 thanks.
"Ask the right fking questions" Rust Cole
Definitely rewatching season 1 now! Stoked you decided to do this series breakdown! 🍻🍻
The water going bad in a isolated community would be high priority but it is barely mentioned and not investigated at all. It all reeks of conspiracy and coverup, and everyone seems connected somehow.
The water went bad in flint Michigan and nobody including the governor cared.
Look at the lengths gone to in Season 1 to cover up all the wealthy / important people involved in the cult activities including help from the police.
@@capshysteria was my comment deleted? I can't see it anymore, even though it says there are 4 comments, but I can only see two.
Annie & the polar bear have the same damaged eye.
So glad you all are breaking down this season. I've seen every session but missed so many of these connections
What did you think of the episode?
Really enjoyed episode 2, even more than 1st episode. Your breakdown was really great, connected a lot more dots than I thought there were, thanks!
Great episode very creepy love how we explore the supernatural elements back again next episode going to be interesting.
The barrage of relevant and insightful references is amazing and very much appreciated. Goodness
its been so long since I've seen season 1, I missed all of this. appreciate these breakdowns :)
My exact thoughts as well!
I actually missed the fact Russ Cohles dad was named Travis. But I did pick up on the fact Travis last name is Cohle
Thanks for the breakdown. Hope you continue for each episode!
It's them dead reindeer from the start.....they have a parasite or infection that's spread
Yes, please do the whole season!
I caught that as well. There is tons of name easter eggs in just the first 2 episodes.
There´s nothing left to guess if Travis is Russ´s dad or not, Rose already called him Travis Cohle and even said he had leukemia.
Which the leukemia thing threw me off because in season one the two detectives said there was never evidence that Rust's father ever had leukemia. 🤔
@@Magicman1625 True... maybe not on record for some reason? Rust said him to be some kind of a survivalist, maybe he somehow managed to get an unofficial diagnosis?
i was surprised he didnt mention that maybe just missed but its definitely rust's dad
im so glad you're covering true detective!
❤❤❤ AWESOME breakdown! Love SC and true detectives! Always learn something new from your show! Looking forward to the next breakdown
the yeti is also a refence to the infamous Russian student hiker story. they all froze to death, ran out of tents unclothed, saw something. might have been a russian nuclear test. they might have died at soldiers hands,, or many think it was a yeti. thats what came to mind immediately when she said it to me. its s circle man
Its been talked about the dyatlov's pass incident influenced this season
Credit to you. I consume ungodly amounts of RUclips videos about TD. You seem to find things others don’t. Bravo.
I'm pretty sure the delirium is probably because of the bad water. Everyone could slowly be ingesting it making them sick all over town.
jajajajajajajaa
That's a reasonable theory, very plausible. The dialogue has already included several references to the water having gone bad and the power system going erratic.
Danvers is big on asking the right questions. Rust said the same thing when he was being interviewed at the end of Ep1 in the first season. Fun call back
I feel like Peter Prior is just Leon S. Kennedy if he actually got to be a normal cop.
The hair. The demeanor. The face.
finally someone said it , the minute i saw him i was like , this is leon from resident evil like when he was a rocky 😂😂
Haha I was actually saying to myself that he looks identical to the cgi version of Leon Kennedy from the original Resident Evil 2 game lol. He looks 90s as fuck in this show and I love it.
fantastic. so stoked you're covering this, looking forward to the rest of the season. this is gonna be a riiiiide
I think thw Tuttle family found something on Alaska that could be related to their cult, consodering the symbol and how Rose said the symbol is older than the ice, that is very At fhe Mountain of Madness/The Thing
Could be just me, but I interpreted Travis' echo dance as also twisting and shouting.
I mean nothing is by accident. Especially when it’s a central part of the scene. Scream and shout - so I know your mine. I think that’s a good call
Keep these coming please…great show, great breakdown by the SC Professionals!
But they missed the most important thing lol
@@Chriswallace0405a dude being catfished
This episode reminded me of Event Horizon. Where the magnetic fields from the black hole possibly caused internal brain damage that sparked seeing painful memories and dead people.
I don't think Rust Cohle is returning, but it's possible he gets a name drop. Hard to envision Matthew McConaughey coming back to the show for half an episode near the end, and I'm not even sure what value that would add to the narrative.
Even so, his name is on the credits and on a Jimmie Kimmle interview Jodie Foster said "his in there somewhere, in the mix"
Exec producer I though
Yeah, him and Woody Harrelson are executive producing the fourth season (edit: they did that with season two and three as well apparently) so hopefully they either bring themselves back although why why would they risk that but hopefully they add in whatever they brought into season one somehow
Bryan Cranston reprised Walter in both spinoffs, but they did it well and they were flashbacks.
I do think it’s a small chance they act in it but I think it’d be such a smart move if even if was a small part like a phone call or flash back
Man you are awesome in what you do! I was so confused, please keep explaining these episodes!
The her cold fingers bit could possibly be a reference to Sedna. A woman from an Inuit myth who had her fingers cut off after being thrown into the icy water. Can’t fully recall the full myth but seems fitting for the icy dark area they are in.
I was thinking about her too.
Billy Tuttle tie is yellow with spiral logos on it
super stoked you guys are continuing coverage on this show.
What was up with the one frozen scientist screaming at the beginning? Was he alive? Was that who the nurse on the phone was talking to Danvers about? How could that be possible?
I was wondering about that too
I'm not exactly sure how it's possible (that he was still alive), but yes, that's who the nurse talking to Danvers is talking about.
Interestingly, the beast from the end of Evil Dead Rise was designed by Dominic Hailstone who also sculpted the "corpsicle" in the show.
Mortified means embarrassed. It does not mean "terrified." The two are not interchangeable.
well I mean, the Tuttles would have probably been mortified if it all got connected with their family
I do think Rust and maybe even Marty will show up this season. It might be how their story wraps up. Rust sacrificing himself to stop the supernatural event and Marty bringing down the Tuttles once and for all. That would leave Danvers and Navarro to be central characters in someway moving forward.
This season has immense potential.
Great episode. To contribute, the shifty miner Chuck Mosley has the same name as a former Faith No More vocalist. Maybe he'll be more than just a miner character after all.
I noticed that and cared a lot
The earth core drawing on the teacher’s board looks like that spiral also.
That’s exactly right she says “one last gift from Travis Cohle” that’s Rust’s father!!!
But he found faith at the end of S1. I always thought he meant he'd kill himself bc well he's Rust.
My family had a very similar Golden Eagle camping trailer. It was cool to see.
Tell me it wasn't as similar on the inside too, please.
@@andglasgo Same layout, but lacking the decor and artwork of the one in the series.
OMG I AM SOOOO HAPPY THAT YOU COVER TRUE DETECTIVE ON YOUR CHANNEL!!!! MY FAVORITE CHANNEL!!!! WOOO WOOOO !
There were mentions of the spiral cult in Season 3 too. One of the detectives wife is a journalist who wrote about it.
Is the show giving similar mood and vibes as that show called Fortitude? Might end up watching this season.
ScreenCrush, keep em coming
Possible Lovecraft link to the town name, The Shadow Over Innsmouth is a Lovecraft story, and Ennis is covered in darkness
Great breakdown as always! Was also mentioned Travis last name is Cohle
Dammm that was good bro.. keep it up. I like your work. That was a deep dive 4 sure. I missed so many Easter eggs
The water is being poisoned??? And causing all the illusions?
Of course my obsessive self put on S1 of True Detective. New theory: Rust notes in S1, ep 2 that his 2 yr old daughter died in a car accident. Danvers son and husband seem to have died the same way. What if Rust was living or visiting Alaska and driving drunk? He could be responsible for the death of Danvers son and husband and his own daughter? It would be especially earth shattering if he and Danvers are related. It explains his profound sadness and could be another link to Danvers.
YELLOW KING IS BACK BABY!!! WE'RE BACK WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 im so goddamn happy
Remember what Rust said in season 1 "I can smell the psychosphere" the book on the table at Roses has the same idea to it
Also the colour blue makes lots of aperances throughout the first two episodes.
The word that is being used in that excerpt is tsalelo (tsel meaning shadow)
The direct and literal translation to the word Tsalal (צלל) would be 'To dive'.
Quite impressive work , you and your dog are quite a team !
@screencrush Silver Key mine is also a Lovecraft's reference where there's a key opening the gateway to other dimensions and the realms of the dreams
In season 1, the Iron Crusader dude literally said “I need a gunslinger.” Again, Roland was literally the last Gunslinger.
yo estoy enganchadísimo con esta temporada!!
I would love to live in a place like Ennis. I hate the cold but I could bear it because I love the night.
