A-spec is purely aesthetic. This Type S should just be updated with different programming for the turbo and traction control. That's all they have to do.

Type S needs a power boost to 380+ hp and a higher redline when they refresh it. 3.0T doesn’t pull hard enough at the top end, so it loses in any competition. I should like to think that they could squeeze a bit more power out and keep the reliability. They did it with the NSX.
@Burt Reynolds Corpse the TLX Type S is not as quick as it’s competitors for sure and Acura should’ve made it quicker, however, Acura as a brand is having record sales on every model, the brand isn’t going away anytime soon lol
Yes, this power boost can be achieved with higher redline, and Honda used to be one of the leading manufacturer of high revving engines. They were keeping up in the beginning, but I suspect that is only thanks to a short first gear. The moment they went to 2nd gear they started lagging behind.

The Stinger results shouldn't be surprising. Mechanically, it's the same as the G70, but it's 6 inches longer, 1 inch wider, and weighs 150 lbs more, so the slight win by the G70 was predictable. It is amazing to see how the Korean brands have improved in a matter of a few years. Great cars, great technology and competing head to head with much established brands out there.
It's all about preparation that takes a long time. Hyundai has been buying Steel Foundries, hiring designers, and retooling factories so they start 2020 strong. Car makers have ups and downs depending on their investments and product life cycle. As the 20s progress, other vehicle makers will make competitive vehicles. Take for instance Toyota that is starting to release vehicles which don't look hideous.
Aside from the clear cost difference that 100k Mile factory warranty is simply unbeatable. No contest. A warranty holds more weight than a 1 second faster 1/4 mile IMO

The f series 340 still looks and drives good by today standards as well. Just change out those plastic charge pipes for metal ones in you’re thinking long-term ownership.
Why would you get a stinger they are already planning to cut them from their lineup
The G70 has always been a little bit faster than the Stinger. It's a little bit smaller and lighter.
S-type should of been called A-spec. S-type needs 50hp more at least.

They should just get rid of Acura and reposition Honda like they do in Australia (more premium than its Japanese competitors). Bringing back the Legend nameplate would be a start.
@@keynesianeconomics4113 wouldnt the dealer experience be noticeable between Acura and Honda? Theres a reason some folks will always buy Lexus instead of Toyota.

You guys are all forgetting a big factor as well: aftermarket support. I threw a jb4 on my g70 and it makes 425whp, capable of keeping up with a c63 amg. They are wildly underpowered and very reliable above even my power level from the factory
"If they're neck and neck then I'm the ankles"... that's hilarious!!!
@Jan Kara Sorry about that! LOL
Loved this drag race! Thank you for putting it together guys. You would think Acura would at the very least benchmark the Stinger/G70 for the Type S, but no.
@@layne4376 They benchmarked the Audi S4 but the S4 still destroys it in a race
i really don't know why they benchmarked anything; they should have approached the tlx-s with the mindset that it just needs to be the best tlx-s it can be - given there were compromises with the tlx, developing the tlx-s was a problem from the beginning.
@@skyyqs3742 That's because it's a freaking boat. I swear Honda can still build the best front end, they just won't put it in an application that will compete with the competition. It makes no sense.

I needed this video in my life!! I have had the 2006 Acura TL, 2013 TL, 2014 TL, and an Acura CL- ALL manual transmissions. After 15 years of driving manuals, I am ready for an automatic! I went to our local Acura dealership and walked around for about 20 minutes with no service. Went inside the showroom and walked around for another 5-10 minutes with no service, and finally left. After weeks of research, I test drove the 2022 G70 and 2022 Kia Stinger GT2. SUPER hard decision between the two, but I'm 95% I'm going with the Genesis G70. I want to keep some luxury and not give up the "fun" in driving.
G70 or Stinger, you can't go wrong but NOOOOO SAVE MANUAL!! Why don't you try the new Elantra N? Since you owned acuras, I don't think you would mind FWD? I would choose G70 if they released an AWD+6spd manual but only 6spd manual (4cyl turbo) + RWD is offered. Elantra N is now on my list.
As someone who used to own an Acura CL Type S 20 years ago, this is just sad. Acura has really gone downhill. Imagine if someone in 2001 had told you that a Kia or Hyundai would make not only a faster car - but a better built package that looks better.
I wonder how the TLX would stack up against the Genesis 5.0??? I hope I run into a TLX Type S. Already ran into a regular one, nothing to talk about there, so I am hoping the TLX would be more exciting to go head to head with.
The Genesis looks like CLS-AMG from the rear.. Beautiful vehicle..

There are still some people (like me) who would choose the Honda over the Hyundai twins for reasons other than outright speed.
Hyundai getting better day by day
Stinger all day long! Best bang for buck sports sedan in the last 5 years, and if anyone would like to dispute that then please enlighten me. This car is and has been punching way above its weight class and it's really a shame Kia is doing away with it next year.
Great vid guys :-) love the one liners, come join the table, take a slice of humble pie was my favourite. Type S is a nice car in isolation but Acura played it too safe. Stinger offers the best bang for buck and would win out if I were looking at these three.
The sad part is that Stinger has been out since 2017.
@@layne4376 Love the line about the drunk. My stinger has no rattles or squeaks at all. By the way, in Korea, that quilted interior of the G70 is available in the Stinger.

As a Stinger owner, I can 100% confirm it is definitely faster than the new Type S...Don't ask me how I know, haha.
It better be. More power about the same or less weight. Type S is more about handling but its still under powered. 3.0t is just too small.

The Stinger isn't even that heavily into handling compared to others but it's rwd and balanced.
Oh man, I was on the verge of saving more money to order the Type S or just settle in for a Type R. Glad to see I have no regrets… 😂
The Type R is the best!
Don’t get the Type S. Ridiculously overpriced. If you do, get a used/older Honda/Acura TLX a spec. But, these acuras are not meant for racing AT ALL.
Bought my Stinger GT1 AWD 2 years ago and never regretted it
That's a lot of red interior...loving it.
As in design of these cars, i prefer the front view of the KIA, side view of the ACURA and the rear view of the GENESIS. Yeah i know, its a weird hybrid, btw this is all in my opinion

When I see negative comments from people about not wanting to be seen taking their Genesis vehicles to a Hyundai dealership!
Really!
Hyundai is not the problem, you are!
You have low self esteem!
Why else would you be willing to pay 15K extra for a vehicle, just so you don't have to sit next to someone at a Hyundai dealership! WOW!
Great job with this drag race! For weeks, journalists have compared the TLX to their competition, and we finally get to see the outcome between the G70. What's surprising is the Stinger. For the price, that Stinger definitely makes cross shopping difficult in that segment. Genesis interior rivals the Germans and Japanese for the most luxurious, especially in terms of standard feature. Those seat designs are by far one of the most LUX. For what's it worth, the TLX does sound better? Haha
This old news. Another channel days after the release of the Type S did the race and had the same outcome.
The Stinger results shouldn't be surprising. Mechanically, it's the same as the G70, but it's 6 inches longer, 1 inch wider, and weighs 150 lbs more, so the slight win by the G70 was predictable. If I were to choose between the G70 and the Stinger, I'd take the Stinger because it has more back seat room, lots more usable cargo space with the liftback design, costs a little less, and to me it's a more sporty looking and attractive vehicle.
The Koreans came to play!!! Well done Genesis and Kia!
just copped the 22 stinger, slapped an E badgr right on it 💯 can’t wait to work on this thing

You said the stinger was Squirtle and I felt my brain factoring everything together. Honestly, you’re right.
My two month old Stinger GT just got rear ended by a GMC Yukon. Luckily no structural damage, replaced with all new parts, in shop for two weeks and was left driving a Mazda 3 rental for that time. Man that was painful even though other guy's insurance footed the bill.
As soon as I saw a Stinger I clicked thumbs-up, no matter the outcome of the race. But then again, I'm a little biased, I love my Chroma Red Stinger GT Limited. I thought the G70 might win just because of its slight weight advantage over the Stinger with the same HP and torque. But I was expecting the Acura to perform a little better though, especially for around $10K more than the Stinger?
The Stinger is just a great looking car with lots of torque. Looking to trade in my IS350 for a GT2 pretty soon.
One of those cars is prettier than the rest. Nothing can beat the Stinger's proper front-engine RWD proportions. Practicality, performance, and quality are just icing on the cake.
Shoutout to Lockwood Kia. That's where I got my Stinger too. Happy owner here : D.
I really want to love the Type-S... I really do. It looks great, but I mean it can't even compete with the Stinger GT, Q50 red sport, C43, S4, M340, and G70. It's a shame really. It's incredible how far ahead BMW, MB, and Audi are compared to them, while being at around the same price point.
If you're comparing straight line performing then yes, the TLX type S can't really compete.
@@AlaskanSnowLeopard I mean I'd really like to see it compete against those on the track too... I'd like to see it succeed
Experience of ownership long term is very different than brand new comparisons of raw performance numbers. Living with your performance car daily, fit and finish, resale value retention, modification potential, and much more are massive criteria much missed by channels like this (I can name a few that follow their recipe).
I gauranteee that this channel would have shit on my 2009 s2k. When I bought it new, I got laughed at, reviews said it was outdated, people said it was too overpriced. And I'm here laughing cuz...I don't have to spell it out for you.
Same shit was said about the original tl type s. Now people are paying used stinger money for cars over a decade old.
Think big picture. As much as I enjoy this channel, their reviews are superficial. Present value. Anyways. I own a type s and traded my stinger in for it. It's a far better vehicle day in and day out. Living with the stinger is better than the g70. Living with the type s is a very different experience...especially with weather.
Also i own a 2021 GLE midnight edition. Living with the car is hell. It's a piece of crap. I leased the vehicle because of this channel. It is horrid to live with.
This channel is entertaining. Hence why I am subscribed. But I no longer take it seriously. It's for quick thrills, reminds me of people buying stocks with fomo on the rise and not at the dip.
