You can tune the b58 to be just as fast if not faster than a stock M3. So yes a cheaper car with high potential. If you have the money then yes you can say you have an M3
Great engines in the current BMWs. I had a B58 BMW previously and now a S58 BMW. I wish they didn't give this TLX the Type-S badge when it basically just competes with a regular garden-variety B58, 540i. It's telling everyone that this is going to be the most powerful version. They should've made at least a 450hp version before giving it the Type-S badge.
Personally I can’t imagine Honda giving a car 450+ HP. The only car I can think of is the NSX. Anyway I totally agree with you the car is too heavy for only 355HP. The car should at the very least push 400HP. That would be a great starting point for the Acura. I daily drive a Nissan Maxima SR which has 300HP and weighs 600LBS less than the Acura. So I’m assuming power to weight is pretty similar which is a shame for the TLX.

The type s has a far superior suspension and better chassis design. It also has an excellent awd system. It doesn't have as good of weight distribution. It has excellent brakes. I like the interior of my car, but if you like screens I'd say go bmw. The bmw probably has really decent reliability with the zf and b58, too. It's just that the rest of the car is also bmw, and that may or may not be a problem. I plan on owning mine for 6 years, 150,000 miles. I can't see the cost being comparable during that time frame, and that's the final word in my decision. So far, I'm pleased with it. Also, I'm giving this car to my daughter, and giving a 16yo girl a car with over 400hp probably isn't smart.

Obviously the 340i is no contest when racing the type s. From my experience I’ve always been neck and neck with the genesis 3.3 but that’s the beauty of racing. 10 different results for ten races.
It's important to note the Supra was slightly slower in the last race than it's been in pretty much every other race video. It usually does 0-60 and 1/4 mi in a tenth less than 3.9 and 12.5, so the result could vary if done again. I know the 340i is AWD, but also 600 lbs heavier.
At this point we need a ITS vs TLX-S because the quarter mile times are like .1 second off for both cars and im convinced the ITS would win out in a roll.

Previously owned an M340i and now have an M3 Competition xDrive (both were daily drivers). To answer your question, yes the M3 is 100% worth it even as a daily driver (assuming you like/want high level performance). The M340i is very good, the M3 is great.
Yes, if you can afford one then go with M3, but 340 is just as great!
I appreciate the honest responses
You can tune the b58 to be just as fast if not faster than a stock M3. So yes a cheaper car with high potential. If you have the money then yes you can say you have an M3
Great engines in the current BMWs. I had a B58 BMW previously and now a S58 BMW.
I wish they didn't give this TLX the Type-S badge when it basically just competes with a regular garden-variety B58, 540i. It's telling everyone that this is going to be the most powerful version. They should've made at least a 450hp version before giving it the Type-S badge.
@@anw9485 type slow!
@@v12kingV10 LOL
Personally I can’t imagine Honda giving a car 450+ HP. The only car I can think of is the NSX. Anyway I totally agree with you the car is too heavy for only 355HP. The car should at the very least push 400HP. That would be a great starting point for the Acura. I daily drive a Nissan Maxima SR which has 300HP and weighs 600LBS less than the Acura. So I’m assuming power to weight is pretty similar which is a shame for the TLX.
@@sergiolopez9955Honestly I daily the Tlx Type S it doesn’t feel heavy whatsoever which surprises me it’s very responsive as soon as you floor it despite it being only 355 it’s still a perfect daily but for the price you can definitely get something better.
The TLX Type-S on the used market is great. I’ve a couple in the mid $40K price range and for that price, the car is a reasonable purchase. I think they’re cool I would definitely consider getting one if I could in the future. I use to have a 2011 Mustang 5.0 and I been dying to get a sports car again.
Races start at 3:53
I absolutely love the TLX. But it is severely overpriced for the performance.
well, you still pay $17K CAN less than the BMW for just 0.6 sec more on the 0-60...not a bad deal IMO
@@yvanouellet3398 It’s not just 0-60. It’s cornering ability. The fact the TLX is almost 300lbs heavier, is almost 10 inches longer, but has less rear passenger leg space. So many things. It’s just not good enough to be over 65-70k after dealer markups.
@@Ty420I paid 54, and the tlx has higher skidpad numbers than that bmw. It was the m340i that cost 70k out the door, and the genesis was 58. I think a lot of you never actually looked at these vehicles.
@@MikeYurbasovich I look at then all the time. Especially used. How many miles roughly did your Type S have?
@Ty420 I bought the car brand new. What you were saying about the bimmer is a misconception. The bimmer will beat the type s on a track, but only because it has a hell of a lot more power.
Yeah b58 is a monster! Im so happy with mine
For the TLX Type S, are you driving it on Sport + on S mode (without using paddle shifters) or Sport + on D mode? it makes a difference
My heart say buy the M340i. My accountant says buy the TLX Type-S. My wallet says by the Supra GR.
You can snag a used G70 for pretty cheap. A tune and good set of aftermarket exhaust will make these cars fly!... I owned a stinger GT2 which has the exact same engine/transmission and man it pissed ppl off lol...
I bought my Acura for 54.
The genesis was 58.
The bmw was 70.
Happy with my Acura.
I think that you did that drag race at least 3 times. Every one knows the m340 is the faster car mainly becouse of its LC. The G70 was right there on the rall, and for 20k 🇨🇦 less, both the Acura and G70\stinger GT are a better buy. Real world, on a daily use they are all the same. I rather save my money for somthing more important then 1/4 mile times, and still be faster then 95% of the cars out there.

I did a 12.2 with a 170 pounds passenger in the 1/4 mile at 114 mp/h. I will do for sure in the high 11 alone in the car next time. stock m240i xdrive 2023 is pretty quick !
Yeah I don't doubt it. I got a 22 G42 with the extra cooling package and summer Michelin 19s, did a 1/4 in 12.1. Although it was just me in the car and I'm about 200lbs.
Just traded my 21 TLX Type S in for a 2023 X3 M40i. (It’s got the B58) 😊
Great video Sam. That Acura is a fat pig. Looks good but it is just slow for how much it costs. That M340i is a really great car. A little bit expensive but it performs great.
At this point we need a ITS vs TLX-S because the quarter mile times are like .1 second off for both cars and im convinced the ITS would win out in a roll.
tlx for dig and integra for roll
I have a tlx type s, and the Its is slower everywhere, except maybe cornering, but probably not there, either.
I’m a huge Lexus fan and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on a used G70 in a couple of months. I want an IS500 but my wallet says no, so the G70 is the closest thing I can get to that

I don’t get why a manufacturer will make a car knowing the competition is faster just to watch it get beat on every channel handing behind reliability or economy like people want want to eat their cake too 🤣. After watching this race I would personally make sure bmw never wins another race in that class. Yet they never want to start a power battle especially the Asians.

@@SamCarLegion Ahhh seems I overlooked a very important function to power 💰 😂 thanks Sam. Awesome video btw man thanks 👍🏻
It´s simple. They don´t have the tech, the engine, the launch control system software all working together to beat the M340i in the class. With the same amount of power to weight ratio they won´t beat the germans.
@@ErM340 More likely because the manufacturer and all involved teams designing the car don't sit down and prioritize if their car will win drag races on RUclips channels watched by a very specific demographic. At the end of the day it's about profit not 1/4 mile bragging rights
@@ErM340lol no. Honda, for one, has the tech (they compete in f1), they just didn’t make the TLX type s to be 1st in speed, they made it to be an all around best value and reliability. @@wendellmotton4982 They have a lot of issues and if the transfer case / transmission doesn't fail before 220K, the owners will likely "skip" the replacement of the timing belt as at the time its due, the adaptive suspension will need to be replaced and these vehicles will end up flooding the used car market picked up by owners who will clap them out and continue to neglect them. Need proof? See what happens to literally every single honda / acura after it ends up in the 3rd+ owners hands after 10+ years. It would be interesting if they'd do a standing kilometer race unlike the quarter mile. It would blend in the rolling race as well as the quarter mile
