    Just want to say thank you, you've restored my faith in track tests for current cars. Usually they are so overproduced and you cant tell anything. But after watching the entire video, I love everything about it. Very real world analysis on these cars, engaging, and actual real time issues experienced on the track. Love his break down of each car while racing the crap out of it to see what's working and what's not. Each car is different and perform in their own respective ways. I think in the end, it's what you're looking for in a track car and what you want to expect out of it.

  • @Xmvw2X
    @Xmvw2X 2 месяца назад +129

    Fun note is the Corolla AWD is that it does not overheat. There is just a timer in the ECU that counts down during hard driving and when that reaches zero: AWD overheat. The sensor in the rear diff unit doesn't do anything, isn't in the liquid, doesn't change anything unplugged, doesn't change anything with a cooler. The ONLY fix I've ever seen was from Best Motoring for a Yaris episode running the same awd design. There was a UK company (not sure which) that has an ECU mod (piggyback system?) that could be added to the car, and then the AWD timer is bypassed letting you run it in awd for a long time no problem. This Best Motoring episode is 2 years old, so this info has been out for quite a while. But no one really talks about it ever and just keeps blaming the overheating issue which isn't really real. I don't know why Toyota programmed it into the ECU like that, and there is no bypass I'm aware of. There might be some fancy "pedal dance" kind of bypass or access mode in the software, but I've never seen anything. The only think is some add-on thing from the UK from some company unknown ot me but has been around for years as a support for the Yaris that first had this awd system.

    • @tommynguyen8620

      Do you know if that ECU piggyback for the GRY can be applied to the GRC?

    • @m4u5
      @m4u5 2 месяца назад +21

      While it is software trigger limit there has to be reason for that. Toyota don't want you to run these harder and longer perior doing so will definitely kill is within Warren period. All properly built high perf cars cool these fluids in diff that's the right way.

    • @Xmvw2X
      @Xmvw2X 2 месяца назад +3

      @@tommynguyen8620 No idea. Outside of the one Best Motoring video from 2 years ago where one tuner for the Yaris (Revolution) was talking about using some system from the UK to defeat the awd overheat cutout, I've never seen anything more about it. I have no idea what company was used, what the system is, or anything. I don't have a Corolla GR, so I'm not really vested to dig into this stuff, just merely stuff I've come across.

    • @Xmvw2X
      @Xmvw2X 2 месяца назад +2

      @@m4u5 No idea why. There's tuners that have been trying to figure that out, including opening up the system, testing the sensor, making custom parts, adding coolers, all kinds of stuff, and the result has been they have no clue. They're pushing cars up to 400-500hp and don't know why. It's just a timer that counts down in the ECU. That's it. The sensor in the back just sits in air, not even in the liquid and doesn't absolutely nothing. So there's an aftermarket that wants to do stuff with it, beef it up if needed, handle thermals if needed, and they can't bypass the problem. People also seem reluctant to just pull the ECU and toss an aftermarket one in instead to work around it. Folks want a work-around, ideally OEM and of course simple. But from Toyota's side, this is likely something like a gen 2 track mode or something. I don't know. Even Japanese tuners who have started with the Yaris GR we didn't get and have worked through the Yaris and now Corolla don't have Toyota coming out with an OEM bypass of any kind.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 2 месяца назад +10

      Something I heard one tuner say in a Savagegeese video is, "We're just waiting on Ecutek to figure out what the ECU is doing and how to disable it." Apparently the internal logic of the GRC/GRY ECU is extremely complicated and unlike most other Japanese cars, and this feature in particular seems very mysterious and buried deep.
      I can definitely understand people wanting to go standalone, but it's worth noting that a standalone ECU is illegal on the street basically everywhere, and often comes with some significant drivability penalties. The OEs put a ton of engineering ti.e into making sure the car starts and behaves normally on a -12 degree day with different accessory loads and throttle transients, and no one really has the money to hash those conditions out on a dyno when building a tune from scratch. Flashing a stock ECU lets you keep all those OE nuances, but then add the beans at high load. Plus, again, in a whole bunch of places you won't pass inspection with a Haltech or Megasquirt, and even in non-inspection places, it's technically a Federal crime.

      The gr and type r are running what, like 25 psi already, just to make 300 to 310. The wrx stock tune is very conservative and only runs about 12 to 13 psi of boost. Now turn the wrx up to 25 psi like the other two and your well over 400 hp.

    Hi guys, owner of 2023 WRX here got it brand new. No the new FA24 is not going to blow up on the track with modifications. Mine has all the bolt on’s with a custom tune on 93 pump gas, top of the line Fortune auto suspension sticky tires and all around STI Brembo brakes. Cost on all that and the car $41,000 it has 390 horse 450 torque my car is running circles around type R’s GR Corolla and many other vehicles on the track. And I still paid less than those guys and I’ve had zero issues with the car and now it has 30,000 miles on it.
