We've owned our 23 M340 in Melbourne red for 3 months now and it's super fun. I installed the M Performance Exhaust for more noise and it sounds like an absolute monster. It gets good gas mileage in comfort and even in sport mode, it all just depends on the amount of pressure the right foot applies. The US version does not have the electric close trunk for some reason where the Canadian and other regions still have it. We also own a 22 M850, which is a V8 beast and is a great GT type of vehicle. But the 340 is soooo much fun to hop in and just zip around town.
Just picked up my m340ii 4 days ago( skyscraper grey) after a 5 month wait. Loving it so far. Keeping ot stock for now( purchased a carbon fiber spoiler) but thats it. Def get plenty of compliments.
I have that M340i and honestly I loved it… I say loved because it’s soon to be traded in for a 2023 911 Carrera 4S. I will miss it though, the interior is comfortable enough. The tech is very modern, and it actually feels like a proper Beamer. Hate the new large grills, this one keeps the old aesthetic which is appreciated.
I have owned both cars and both are great choices depending on your lifestyle and needs. I currently own the 23 M340i and prefer the refined styling, ride, and LCI update over the Supra. But both cars are great and I highly recommend either one. The B58 is a beast.
Great review man! These two cars are constantly being compared, but I always feel like the M440i is more of the BMW counterpart to the Supra because of its two-door coupe body style. In SoCal, there are way more 4 series inventories now than the 3 series -- even the markups on the M4s are less than the M3s. Regardless, I agree that the Supra is the better performer, but given that most drivers, including many car enthusiasts, don't drive their cars at ten-tenths, the difference might not be that noticeable. For me, it actually comes down to social perception. When a Supra pulls up, I can half guess who's gonna come out of it haha -- young, still in college/high school, and their parents prob paid for the car, and they go to meetups at various canyons. As for the BMW, it gives off a much more mature vibe -- still having fun in life, but this guy is in his mid-20s at least and has a "real" job. When a dark M340i pulls up, I don't know who's gonna come out of it -- could be a mobster, a gentleman, a college senior, etc -- love that mystery. Something about a blacked-out BMW screams "bad***" to me. Lastly, while the Supra feels like a "birthday car" a rich kid gets in high school and that's the most their parents are willing to spend, the M340i feels like a sensible and streetable choice to the M3. If someone tells me they drive an M340i, I'd nod to them and say "This guy knows what's up/BMW's secret (M340i being the streetable M3 that most people can enjoy)!" When we are talking about cars in this price range, it's really all about emotions...

From my perspective, I think most BMW drivers buy them purely as a status symbol--much like a lot of the euro cars. Also anything "blacked out" is not badass to me, it reeks of fuckboi. While the Supra does look more polarizing, its an actual sportscar so its supposed to. I know zero teens that own a Supra, so I wouldn't use youtuber supras as an accurate cross section of actual Supra owners. But I'm just some other guy with another perspective, nothing right or wrong just sharing.

I have had a '23 Supra for 9 months now and I will never regret it, I did consider the M440i and M340i at the time of purchase but after extensively test driving all of them, the Supra hands down feel the best. I daily drive my Supra and commute about 100 miles total a day in the Supra almost every day of the week, I also drive my Supra in the canyons from time to time and plan to take it to the track. My friend got a M340i at around the same time as my Supra, and he enjoys his car and loves it but still wants to get a Supra in the future 😂, both amazing cars, it really just comes down to if you are willing to sacrifice the back seats or not.
@@fatehbawany9672 Honestly, its a great daily driver, I get great mileage around 30 mpg on the highway, and tbh I haven't had to pay for my service yet since I bought it new and got ToyotaCare from the manufacturer's warranty. From what I've heard from other A90 owners, it's cheap to maintain and modify (definetely cheaper service prices than BMW ironically). So far have had no issues, I've had about 14000 miles on the car so far and have an intake, HAS springs and some other minor mods on it. Drives like a dream and is fun as hell when you want it to be.
I"ve been daily driving my Supra since I purchased early 2022 and it is far and away the best choice I could have ever made. Gas mileage is truly amazing.....IF you have the discipline to not step on the gas 24/7. I will say that I have no such discipline and I always convince myself to enjoy the car I paid $60K+ for, but to reiterate, if you can control yourself to only stomping on the gas on the weekends, I think it'll be a great daily driver. Maintenance has been simple oil changes every 5K miles to be on the safe side and the car has had absolutely no issues (and that includes how hard I push the car on a regular basis). The engine is an absolute tank and it should continue to maintain it's value for years to come. Go for it!!@@fatehbawany9672
@@fatehbawany9672 I did nearly 43000 miles in a 2020 M340i touring (so slightly less aerodynamic than the saloon) - average consumption 8.2 l/100km or 28.9 mpg US; it's been quite consistent throughout (motorway at 80-90 mph = country roads at 50-65). First service (~20,000 miles) was £400, second service (~40,000) £500 as the spark plugs were also replaced.
You must not carry around much for it to be your daily. I’m snowboarding or mountain biking everyday so the sport back in the 440i GC is supreme. If you get a 340i you’re missing out
Good to see a video like this. I cross shopped both cars and have actually owned both now. Supra by a mile if you're looking for performance only. However, if you're OK with about 80% of the handling of the Supra and about 90% of the straight line speed (other than the awd launch of course) but need the added practicality, then the M340i is a good choice. I personally never go to the track and only do the occasional mountain drive. So I am going to run with the M340 for a bit and see how I like it. I also think that if you get the ZTK/Cooling and High Performance tire package and some bigger wheels/tires for the M340i you'd close the performance gap even more. Both great choices.
@@blocksource4192 because i use it as a true daily driver. The M2 is just a bit too harsh (stiff and loud) to live with every day. I do speeds in excess of 200km/h daily on the unrestricted highways and the m240i with myself driving is always the fastest car on the road. In fact if you check carwow comparing the M2 and m240i it beats the M2 to 60 (AWD). Also I never track the car so there’s that. If I did, only then could I justify the $20kUSD difference (in my country where I paid $100k USD for my m240i. 😭) between the 2 cars. Hope that answers your question! 👍

If the answer is yes and often then definitely go for the M3. If the answer is no or only once in a blue moon then an M340i should be more than enough car for you. Unless you also have unrestricted highways where you live, an M3 limited to regular speed limits seems more like a poser car to me. You'll get all the cons (harsh ride, drone in traffic) and none of the pros (insane speed, handling, etc) just my 0.02c. 👍

The Supra is on a dedicated sports car platform that is shared with the z4 but the Supra is even more performance base since it comes with a roof it has a higher tuning potential and is higher performing from the factory but the m340i is a great all rounder car it gives up 5-10% in sheer absolute performance numbers for 3 extra seat and a big boot a sacrifice that doesn’t mean anything on the road but might alot to enthusiast who wants to take it club racing.

I have the M240i, love it. Reason why I went for that instead of the Supra. I felt like the Supra sat too low and I couldn't see over the hood. I love the B58 engine, its definitely not your typical inline 6 Bimmer engine. So I opted for the M240i, M340i was in my radar as well, especially the new LCI model.
Man i wish it was an M240i comparison. I put a deposit for a 2024. Still undecided on color but i have a week to decide. Same engine, same tranny, still a coupe but fairly usable rear seats, and lighter than the 340i. Im opting for rear wheel drive instead of xdrive. A bit more hooligan vibe, i live in central valley CA so no rain or rough terrain and it saves almost 150lbs.
BMW for me. He said the Supra is a better "bargain". BMW is not a bargain. I don't do bargains. I have an M550i and X5MC and drove the Supra. It feels like it's holding back becaise BMW placed limits on its performance and they would never put an M product in a non-Bimmer.
Got the B58 in my M240i and love it. It's a scary fast car with a bit of modification. With near 500WHP and 700NM of torque through the rear wheels of the 2 Series it's more exhilarating than a lot of exotic cars.
Just bought the m340. I live in Colorado so i got the xdrive. First Auto ever (I own a 13 wrx 2020 tacoma and a 89 FJ62 Land Cruiser) and im loving it. The launch control is absolutely insane and its like riding the rocking roller coaster at Disney. Although i wish you could have spec it in a 6 speed but im really happy with the car and looking forward to getting some areo and performance mods in it
Its a shame bmw wouldnt let the supra use idrive 7. The dash looks dated compared to a new bmw (now on idrive 8). Even on the revised 2022 supra, its still using idrive 6. Idrive 5 and 6 are similar. Theres quite a differnece when you jump to 7. And the current idrive 8 is massive jump forward. Idrive 7 is more than good enough.
Steering wheel feel can be improved upon with upgraded monoballs, on the M340i, fyi. Also, that rear trunk lip looks horrendous, imo. Does not match the lines of the G20.
Engine wise they are almost identical Yeah almost Bmw has some extra shit typical of bmw to not give toyota everything Looks wise bmw takes this 100% Supra is a z4 Overall great engine and very tunable My 2020 e50 m340 will smoke a stock g80 any day
Just saw a newer Toyota supra hit 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds on a RUclips video. I don't think there is a difference in speed, unless that supra was modified, or the time was wrong, but I don't think it's either.
Supra can def achieve 3.9 seconds, it is faster off a roll every time. From a dig the M340 only has advantage of xDrive if it's speced with it because then you can achieve mid 3s in the right conditions, but other than that Supra is lighter and faster
@@DriveDynamicsAz l do, but look it up how Toyota kept refusing their engine and other parts because it wasn’t to their standards, so bmw had to go back many times and redesigned things which would meet Toyotas requirements :)
I have a ‘22 mineral grey M340i and it is hands down my favorite car i have ever owned. I’ve had an A6 3.0T, bmw 540i m sport. Slightly different sedan class but with the roominess of the m340i, I’m not sacrificing all that much cargo space and legroom. I have two car seats in the back, can fit 3 sets of golf clubs!! Unmatched daily driver as well as 0-60 beast. Launch control has me and all my passengers smiling every time

My M340i doesn't have tire and cooling package which has the most smooth ride for an m340. but when I put it into comfort, it's definitely tolerable, my 4 year old doesn't complain. 540i is a dulled down b58 engine, understandable for the segment. m340 is muchhhh more fun!
I'm a sucker for fast sedans especially ones that keep their weight lower and can carve canyons. But ever since the supra came out I have made the one exception where it's the first coupe I actually prefer over any sedan. I think if Lexus releases an ISF or some sort of fast sedan with this supra layout, it will be the one I'd choose over this supra.
One is a 4 door sedan and one is a legendary sports car, just because they share an engine they both are totally different, with different tuning also.
Interesting that you like the thicker wheel of the BMW. I love the skinny steering wheels like in the GT3 RS, I find you can "feel" the road a little bit more but it's probably subjective.
Already did this comparison on some twisties in mountains. I have driving 2021 M240i xdrive and buddy driving a Supra 2022 I believe. Guard rail saved his life…I had nothing but traction and speed and he felt the wraith…

I have the M240i, love it. Reason why I went for that instead of the Supra. I felt like the Supra sat too low and I couldn't see over the hood. I love the B58 engine, its definitely not your typical inline 6 Bimmer engine. So I opted for the M240i, M340i was in my radar as well, especially the new LCI model.
Now do the under appreciated b48 versions pleaseeeee

Man i wish it was an M240i comparison. I put a deposit for a 2024. Still undecided on color but i have a week to decide. Same engine, same tranny, still a coupe but fairly usable rear seats, and lighter than the 340i. Im opting for rear wheel drive instead of xdrive. A bit more hooligan vibe, i live in central valley CA so no rain or rough terrain and it saves almost 150lbs.
If I were in the market id take the m340i xdrive as my daily and supra m6 for the weekends 😎
I did something similar except instead of the M340i we have an X7. The Supra 6MT is for the weekends.

The Z4 with a manual would be the ticket.
BMW for me. He said the Supra is a better "bargain". BMW is not a bargain. I don't do bargains. I have an M550i and X5MC and drove the Supra. It feels like it's holding back becaise BMW placed limits on its performance and they would never put an M product in a non-Bimmer.
My only dislike with B58 is the timing chain is at the back of the engine.
It's a chain though--much better than a belt at the back of the engine.
Doesn’t really matter. You still gotta Lowe the engine to remove the chain.
Got the B58 in my M240i and love it. It's a scary fast car with a bit of modification. With near 500WHP and 700NM of torque through the rear wheels of the 2 Series it's more exhilarating than a lot of exotic cars.
Toyota supra is the car though M340i is quite good but it just comes to the personal preferences at last.
Both are different car for different occasions. Can’t choose, just get both.

Just bought the m340. I live in Colorado so i got the xdrive. First Auto ever (I own a 13 wrx 2020 tacoma and a 89 FJ62 Land Cruiser) and im loving it. The launch control is absolutely insane and its like riding the rocking roller coaster at Disney. Although i wish you could have spec it in a 6 speed but im really happy with the car and looking forward to getting some areo and performance mods in it
you can get a 2106-2018 f30 340i with a manual too just no hpfp like the gen 2 b58 but if you upgrade pretty much the same engine

Its a shame bmw wouldnt let the supra use idrive 7. The dash looks dated compared to a new bmw (now on idrive 8).
Even on the revised 2022 supra, its still using idrive 6.
Idrive 5 and 6 are similar. Theres quite a differnece when you jump to 7. And the current idrive 8 is massive jump forward.
Idrive 7 is more than good enough.

Steering wheel feel can be improved upon with upgraded monoballs, on the M340i, fyi.
Also, that rear trunk lip looks horrendous, imo. Does not match the lines of the G20.

Just saw a newer Toyota supra hit 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds on a RUclips video. I don't think there is a difference in speed, unless that supra was modified, or the time was wrong, but I don't think it's either.
There is a difference. Weight makes a big difference in everything.
Supra can def achieve 3.9 seconds, it is faster off a roll every time. From a dig the M340 only has advantage of xDrive if it's speced with it because then you can achieve mid 3s in the right conditions, but other than that Supra is lighter and faster
So, sedan vs coupe? How does this make any competitive sense? You should buy a sedan if you want a sedan and need the space.

I have a ‘22 mineral grey M340i and it is hands down my favorite car i have ever owned. I’ve had an A6 3.0T, bmw 540i m sport. Slightly different sedan class but with the roominess of the m340i, I’m not sacrificing all that much cargo space and legroom. I have two car seats in the back, can fit 3 sets of golf clubs!! Unmatched daily driver as well as 0-60 beast. Launch control has me and all my passengers smiling every time

2020 M340i here lol AKA non nerf'd G20 model. All engine with no Hybrid crap.
@@Ssh52 the 540i was smoother than my M340i for sure. My M340i doesn't have tire and cooling package which has the most smooth ride for an m340. but when I put it into comfort, it's definitely tolerable, my 4 year old doesn't complain. 540i is a dulled down b58 engine, understandable for the segment. m340 is muchhhh more fun!

BMW M340i - its a daily driver car for sure..with more space so no equal comparison.. both are built for different reasons.
I'm a sucker for fast sedans especially ones that keep their weight lower and can carve canyons. But ever since the supra came out I have made the one exception where it's the first coupe I actually prefer over any sedan. I think if Lexus releases an ISF or some sort of fast sedan with this supra layout, it will be the one I'd choose over this supra.

One is a 4 door sedan and one is a legendary sports car, just because they share an engine they both are totally different, with different tuning also.
Interesting that you like the thicker wheel of the BMW. I love the skinny steering wheels like in the GT3 RS, I find you can "feel" the road a little bit more but it's probably subjective.

Already did this comparison on some twisties in mountains. I have driving 2021 M240i xdrive and buddy driving a Supra 2022 I believe. Guard rail saved his life…I had nothing but traction and speed and he felt the wraith…
factory tires on the supra are trash and the car tends to oversteer if pushed (which I like but it can catch less experienced off guard)
Awd and rwd in a steady state corner are the same, we're not talking grip off the line.
