@CarGurus: Cliff, thanks for not crapping all over the G70 just because there have not been a lot of updates. It is a terrific car, even though Kia/Hyundai is no longer putting development dollars into it, since it's not selling that well. I really like the 2023 I have. Where the car is at its best is on mountain road curves. It's impossible to understand how good it is until you drive it in that context, or maybe on a track, tho it's kinda heavy for extensive track use, no?
lol the g70 shouldn’t never touch a track, it’s a slightly fast wannabe premium car. Everything in that car would over heat let alone probably throw you all around, I had to get rid of my g70 because it would just throw me around in its seat, and is very hesitant around corners especially downhill corners. Also was basically falling apart after less then 6 months of daily use, interior is not sturdy

I said it many times in regards to the TLX and I'll say it again. Other than having a little less power, its one the best in it's class. Its a similar dynamic to another brand like lexus, mazda, or infiniti vs Genesis. The g70 may be faster or have a nicer interior but the acura is better made, better feeling and looks more sporty. The TLX would definitely be MY buy of the two

As a G70 owner, it is a great car but has downsides. There is too much body roll than you'd expect for a sport sedan. I need to get swaybars at the least. Brake feel isn't great. The brembos will stop you but you need to change out the pads and maybe rotors to avoid the common brake pulsing issue. Sound isn't great. Doesn't sound like an organic 6 cylinder. The competition definitely sounds better. Also the fuel economy is bad but no one can compete with the B58. Other than that, it's a great driving car. Steering is heavy and organic. It'll oversteer even in AWD form. Power will surprise you. Looks are unique. Suspension is good overall but just needs some help with body roll. Transmission tuning is good too for non ZF 8 speed. Features are good too for the money. Bottom line, you need to put a little money into it and it'll be on par with M340i if not better in some ways.
The G70 is actually a proper rwd sport sedan and by most accounts, one of the best handling cars in segment. The TLX is a modified fwd Honda. They're not really the same thing. Both great imo. But not the same flavor.
@@johnholst Not a modified anything. The 2021+ TLX is built on a unique platform not shared with any other car. Yes, it's FWD-based and you can debate the wisdom of that decision. Acura says they wanted to stick with their proven SH-AWD system.
The g70 wouldn’t be so bad if the interior wasn’t so tacky, it like it’s trying as hard as possible to seem like a luxury car but just doesn’t know how to do it. Maybe cause it’s really just Hyundai and these cars are known to be cheap and fall apart, I guess since they give a good warranty it’s not too much to worry about but tlx just does everything the g70 does but a bit better
there's another issue you did not raise: you can walk into any Genesis dealer and find a G70 3.3T. Good luck finding a TLX Type S. So I'm going to assume you can get a better deal on the Genesis.
I love Honda products. As a matter of fact I currently drive the new Integra Type S. But in this segment of midsize sports sedans the G70 is a no brainer. The problem with the TLX are the proportions. Almost as big as a Full size sedan with the interior dimensions smaller than a compact.
The Genesis feels better. However, for purposes of care/maintenance, I'd go with the Acura. The Genesis dealership network is iffy. I'm a member of a few Genesis groups, and issues with the dealership network is the #1 issue for most people.
The G70 3.3T, is more luxury while tlx more of like aggressive sporty and yet the G70 3.3T is faster by alot and tuning potential is solid, with few bolt ons you're at 450whp easy. (Sam did race stinger G70 and TLX type S all stock). Acura has nice front end but side profile is meeh, and it's very long

The Acura TLX is one of the most underwhelming cars in its segment. It’s significantly underpowered compared to German rivals, and somehow its fuel economy is worse than the competition. It’s also unnecessarily heavy. I don’t understand why Honda spends so much money on a FWD-based AWD system-it’s unbalanced and inefficient. For those who bring up Honda’s reliability, no, it’s not reliable, especially when it comes to the transmission. This is one reason why no one tunes this car. Another issue is that it’s very long but doesn’t offer much interior space. Acura should give us a sedan with a 3.0T engine, at least 380 HP, V6, and RWD. They should also switch from the 10-speed to the ZF 8-speed transmission and offer the practicality of an Accord.
I was curious if you’ve had the chance to drive one, along with its German rivals in this segment. I was set on getting an S4 until I drove the TLX, which changed my perspective. Reviewers often focus on highlighting differences between comparable vehicles, sometimes making small distinctions sound more significant than they are, when in reality, the cars are incredibly similar.
@@kymyst18t I did drive the TLX Type S; the only positive thing is that it has good steering feel compared to the Germans, and the engine sounds great. Other than that, it falls short compared to its competitors.

I agree that the car is heavy and fuel economy isn't great, but I disagree with the notion that it's not a good sport sedan. Despite making less power and weighing more than the M340i, it still outperforms it on the track. Plus, when you look at pricing, it aligns more closely with the Audi S4, while a similarly equipped M340i can cost $8-10k more. Don’t get me wrong-I’ve owned several Audis and BMWs, and I'm a lifelong fan of German cars (shout-out to VW, too)-but it feels like many people aren’t giving this car the credit it deserves for its handling capabilities.

Genesis G70's interior and exterior are modern, yet timeless. G70 looks like it's an entire class above any vehicle in Acura's lineup. In my opinion, Acura hasn't offered an elegantly styled car since it discontinued the lovely 1992-1995 generation Acura Legend.

Nah kid, call a spade a spade; if the G is a Hyundai then the Tlx is a honda. And acura is consistently ranked lower than Genesis in reliability. This isn't the 90s, honda is not what it used to be.
G70 has no backseat (the Stinger would have been a better design solution). G70 interior is more luxurious. TLX has horrible infotainment. TLX exterior is gorgeous.
Notice the shoty blue door sill in the interior....b pillar. Crazy... you only see that in cheaper cars....that lack of detail or quality is why you purchase the acura
I love the TLX, especially the Type-S. It's my choice. My one disappointment is that with the INFINITI Q60 RS having 400 horsepower for years and years and the Genesis having had that 365 since the beginning, to tune the Type-S to just 355 was really disappointing.

Objectively no. The TLX Type S beat the G70's lap times at both Car and Driver's Lightning Lap and MotorTrend's hot lap.

As my 2019 TLX 3.5 sits at the dealer with its 2nd blown engine at just 55k miles I have to disagree.
