Thanks for the review. It's very thorough, but at the same time, I think you're sort of missing the point of this car. And that would sort of defeat this car's role as the gateway drug for the Genesis brand. It's a very good, though compromised car. But the compromises are there to make it easier (cheaper) to buy. As someone who came from a Stage 1 Bootmod3 tuned BMW F82 M4, I have the 2.0T and it is more than enough power for 99% of the driving most people do. I understand the WANT for more power and sure, I can’t run with that Challenger Scat Pack or Audi RS3. But the 2.0T is a great value after the initial depreciation hit. If I want more power, I’d get a ZL1, M8 Comp, or an Aston Martin Vantage.
thanks man, I want to buy a 2.0t and most owners are so biased towards the V6. Which ofc is great but the mpg is horrific on those and idk if I want to sit at the gas station every day. Is the 2.0 reliable to you so far?
Having owned this car for a year now, I thought I'd add my $0.02 and a counterpoint to this somewhat negative review. I have owned multiple BMWs, and test drove the Audi S4/S5, BMW M340i Xdrive, Lexus IS350 AWD, C43 AMG and the Cadillac CT5-V AWD before buying the G70 3.3T AWD Sport (Sport Prestige in US). I have no particular loyalty to any manufacturer - this car replaced a 2016 Cadillac CTS, and shares a garage with a Porsche 997.2S, an NB Miata, and an F150 - but I look for the best overall option in what I'm looking for. I am a driver with extensive autocross and track day experience, but I do expect practicality and comfort out of my AWD daily driver. The 3.3T in top trim drives fantastic - in Canada the AWD still comes with summer-only Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires on staggered wheels, and with the adaptive suspension the ride/handling tradeoff was far superior to the M340iXdrive, which is either too stiff or too wallowy - Genesis got their settings "just right". Like BMW, the car has a very RWD feel and is quite tossable (I believe the BMW and Genesis share the same Magna AWD system). The M340i engine is far superior in power, power delivery, sound and fuel economy, but the 3.3T is more than enough motor for road use and has lots of grunt down low in the everyday use range. The Hyundai 8 speed transmission is good, but the ZF 8HP is still better (at least in all the cars I've used it in). While noting that styling is subjective, to me the first gen G70 exterior was "sportier" looking but somewhat derivative with elements of Infiniti Q60, BMW 3, Audi and others; to me the facelift dramatically changed the car to distinctive Genesis styling and a much more "luxury" appearance. Yes, if you nitpick you can see things like the headlight/fender interface and the painted bar through the taillights, but in real life the car to me looks stunning with the front and rear caps the way they should have been from the beginning. Small styling details like the "wing" in the hood and the inward pinch in the rocker panels break up some of the larger panels. The interior quality is as good as any other in the class, and the styling to me is "sport sedan" - body-hugging sport seats with lots of adjustment, clear gauges and a well laid-out centre stack (particularly the pre-2024 models with the dial controls for HVAC). Does it look less techy than a BMW? Yes, but not every one wants a spaceship look inside their car. A major miss is in the control interface for the infotainment system - the drive mode knob should have been an infotainment controller (yes, I know that there's controls on the wheel, on the touchscreen and on the centre stack, but many others cars have redundancy here too) with the drive mode being handled elsewhere, with either a rocker switch or distinct buttons. I hope this helps others considering this car.
Those side pnr seat controls are AMAZING. Pre-adjust for pnrs & move them outta sightline. Widen the stepping stone for short-legged k9. Simple time saving convenience .
Of course! Although the 2.0T manual (when that was available) weighed nearly 660lbs/300kg more than the equivalent front wheel drive 2.0T manual Elantra N. That's not strictly because of RWD v FWD of course, a lot of that is due to this being a luxury car and also being quite overbuilt with a lot of parts (apparently) the same as the V6T model.
Exactly. That's why I'm dying of laughter at the people who said buy the acura ilx instead. So pay more. Get a slower car, uglier interior and fwd? No thanks
@@LegendsPizzaCo You mean the ILX (Integra) Type S 2.0T manual compared to the Genesis G70 2.0T manual sport when that was available? As with the Elantra N, because of the front wheel drive (and not being a luxury car, obviously it's a just a Civic Type R with leather seats!), the Integra is 600 lbs lighter. While RWD is a more classical balance, weight also matters in fun-to-drive factor -- so it's a matter of compromises. Even Hyundai enthusiasts might say the Elantra N is more fun to drive than the G70 despite driving the wrong wheels, it depends what you want. As for the V6 twin-turbo, the G70 is only 130lbs/60kg lighter than the KIA Stinger 3.3T which is a mid-size 5m long car that competes with the 5 Series and Chevrolet SS and so on. Does the G70 *really* drive like a much smaller, lighter car, despite having most of the same mechanicals and weight of the larger models? 🤔
I have a 2019 G70 6 speed manual, its a great car but the G70s and Stingers collectively are known for eating tires. Wheels are staggered fit so you can't rotate tires, alignment is always out every year when I get it aligned, oil change intervals are shorter than the rest of the class if you follow what's in the back of the owners handbook (3k miles full synthetic for severe service and 6k for normal on the 4 cyl). Early cars are a bit skittish in the rain and will snap oversteer in corners, but there have been revisions to the suspension tuning to fix that to make the newer ones really sure footed in all conditions. These are amazing driving cars on track and for long distance, and the highway driving assist (HDA) is pretty much best in class, but I will say they are on the pricy end of the class in terms of maintenance. Also, the brembos on early cars also have very poor initial bite when driving in the rain which they fixed on later cars, the floating caliper cars do not have issues with that. I love mine, but I'm glad it's not my daily driver anymore.
I bought the G80 for an extreme discount. A Certified used. Car is a dream and due to the huge depreciation I got a bargain. I recommend the G80 with the V6 and the 8 speed. You will pay very little for a Certified Used one and enjoy all the benefits. It is rock solid reliable, dependable , cheap on gas ,and after 70K nothing goes wrong. Not even carbon fouling. Skip the high strung BMWs Mercedes, and Audis and get the G80.
@@Hemond1cheap on gas? Nah, even the German rivals have better gas mileage than Genesis. Its been proven, check out the review videos, they r out there
I like their cars. I don't like their reputation for treating their customers poorly after the sale. It's surprising that the new kid in town would do that.
16:45 I have the same controls in my Tucson and believe me I use them quite often to move the front seat to allow more space at the back on some occasions. Reaching out to the bottom seat controls while seating on the driver's seat would not be nice.
True, it's aging but still a decade ahead of the Lexus IS interior and you seemed to like that interior.. Would be good to see a review of the top trim 3.3T.. everything is better and I think your impression would change. Keep in mind all of the cars in the class have a 4cyl version.. and this one is the most powerful. In fact almost as much hp as an IS350 and more torque. If you compare the G70 3.3T Sport Prestige to all of the Germans it's much less money. Still a very solid car and great buy.
Please explain how Hyundai exhausts are inferior. I've had three Sonatas with close to 300 Km each. One of the cars was 9 years old when we traded it. We never had to replace any major parts of either of the exhausts. I recall replacing flex pipes on the 2007 and on the 2011. In fact, I never had to anything more than maintenance on any of the Hyundais I've owned.
You said you've never had to replace any parts of the exhausts in your Sonatas, and then the very next sentence you say you "recall replacing flex pipes on the 2007 and 2011." I would definetly consider changing a flex pipe to be major exhaust work along with exhaust manifold work and gaskets change/removal/repair or putting on aftermarket headers or mufflers, minor work is like tightening a clamp, putting tubing back in a hanger that slipped out, spot welding an exhaust leak etc etc. Confusing statement aside that's not a bad record though if thats all the trouble you had either way. you never had to do 02 sensors in a 300k km Sonata?
@14:53 Several Genesis models - even older ones going back to 2019/2020 received an over the air update a few weeks ago and they all have wireless android auto / Apple Carplay now.
This is THE BEST car in its segment. Sure, the 340i is faster and the B58 engine is technically superior, but the Lambda 3.3T is the most RELIABLE turbo V6 engine on the market at the moment. There have been a few Stinger GT's that have popped up for sale with over 170,000 miles with only regular maintenance done to them. And the performance of the 3.3T is just as good as the V8 in the IS500, except for the sound. And the interior of this car feels more premium than what you get in the Lexus IS which is ANCIENT!
I liked the pre-facelift version's looks better. The turbocharged v6 was really peppy and fun to drive though. It is kind of odd to me that Genesis never made a higher performance version of the car.
Same! People used to dump on that first look as being too generic or too derivative of BMW. But I thought the whole look inside and out was more cohesive and mature than the current version. Front end reminds me of an insect now. If Genesis does an update and offers a Magma version, they’ll have something.
There is a reason why Hyundai/Kia and now Genesis are world's #3 automaker. You get a LOT for your money, and now add reliability, quality material, appealing design, and attention to details in the equation, it's a great recipe for success. I bet most people never thought these brands would be sitting at #3, above any Detroit brand, Honda and Nissan in 2024.
Great video, the G70 is a fantastic car. And yes, you're spot on about the transmission, it is German. The G70 and it's sister car the StingerGT was engineered by German engineers from Audi and BMW M Division.
Almost all 4 cylinder engines are buzzy; we had a 22 RAV4 and though the A25A-FKS was pretty powerful and efficient it was obnoxiously noisy in my opinion
do you think this engine is better than mazda's skyactiv 2.5T ? in 2022 I was choosing if I should buy cx-5 turbo or GV70. cx-5 was cheaper and gv70 was hard to find, so I went with cx-5. Not sure if it was a mistake. I was concerned this engine might not be reliable
same motor as the sonata n line i didnt know they put it in this anyways great motor awesome on fuel I have a sonata n line 3 years old 70,000kms so far not one issue pretty pleased only thing missing is the AWD for the winter
Need to do a review on the 3.3 liter. All of the Hyundai 4cly engines are known to have issues. But the 3liter engines which are exclusive to the Genesis lineup are pretty rock solid. Also, the interior on this model and trim you reviewed is crap. You need to review the 3.3t sport prestige trim. The interior on that one puts to shame anything in it's segment and even above it. The interior on the 3.3t sport prestige is nicer than most cars above it's segment.
In the beginning, Genesis used ZF's 8 speed transmission. Then a year or two later, the transmission was made by Hyundai Powertech. It looks very similar to ZF's 8 speed. Whether the home grown version is a licensed copy of ZF's is not known.
Umm.. the ZF's were the 6 speed transmissions that we're on the original Genesis sedan until 2012. The 8 speed has always been a Hyundai designed and assembled unit.
I noticed when you were underneath the car the transmission is an A8LR1. This 8 speed has been around at least since 2013. I had one in my 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe. In the 2010 to 2012 Genesis coupe they had the German ZedF 6-speed transmission. I think Hyundai try to copy the German transmission into their own design. Also my Genesis coupe has the same suspension setup with the dual lower control arms and the Brembos
im not sure about this car, but i would guess it uses the same AWD system as the Stinger, which Kia decided to use Magna system, Actimax to be exact, a very robust and reliable AWD system.
You're fairly right on point, I had a G80 Ultimate and everything on that car was of quality, after a terrible year with Land Rover, I went for g70, and as a luxury brand, they failed on many things, I ended wrapping carbon Vinyl all the plastic on center console, feels much better, my 24 accord has super nice digital cluster, this one is so basic, not many options, this is very old tech, screen is still small and very basic, climate control is ok, I like the suspension and handling, brakes are turned to super soft, don't feel like you're running Brembo, it's a 50/50 love hate relationship, I enjoy the looks, especially in nice color, seats are great but with it's short comings, not sure if a still trying to establish them selves luxury brand putting out a cheapo as g70, I bought it so I'll keep it but I wish I did not, Gv70 is amazing, so is g80 and up, wtf genesis?
I think the G70 was never meant to be a luxury car but rather a premium offering under the Hyundai brand, just like the original Genesis sedan and Equus sedan. When they decided to spin off Genesis into its own brand in 2017, it's likely the G70 project (or whatever it was called internally as a Hyundai branded product) was already locked up and under development.
The transmission looks like the ZF 8 speed used by many manufacturers... it's the same one used in my 2020 X3. It's a superb transmission that's very responsive and reliable. As always, great review!
This guy must be a kia Stinger fan or m340i fan because he seems to really despise the g70. He should've reviewed the 3.3t prestige. It has a better interior and stronger engine. I have a 2022 one. I love mine!
The 2.5t is a pretty good engine and if your an older person or someone that doesn’t care about power it’s a good choice… with that said I would take the 3.3t
300 HP in a car like this is gonna still make this fly. That said, it is obvious you'd want the v6 but there is a $10k premium, so not as easy as just deciding to choose it over the smaller engine.
though at 50k something starting you might as well get the IS lexus sedan with a v6 starting at 44k which is naturally aspirated with 311hp. The g70 has to twin turbo its (inferior) engine to get up to 365. Good luck with those turbos not crapping out on you if not the engine.
Unfortunately you have the poorly equipped g70. Would have been nice to review the engine and package that actually makes the car nice/worth it. You are missing tons of power and features with the car shown in the video
@@billkallas1762buts it’s not the engine that the car was initially designed for. It’s made for people that don’t have enough money for the full g70. Hp number doesn’t matter. There are a few features/tech options that are only available with the 3.3. HUD, LSD, Nappa seats, alcantera headliner, 360°cams , power trunk, electronic suspension. So getting the 2.5 handicaps the car both in performance and features
@@billkallas1762and Amd literally said himself at the end of the video, Genesis should have never offered the 4 cyl option on these cars. The 3.3 should be the only option
I still can’t bring myself to spend serious money on a Korean car. Just the way they handle recalls and issues turns me away. Even worse than the American brands, say what you want about Toyota…yes they have issues but they fix them right unlike all the others who deny and eventually put a half assed bandaid on
I wanted one really bad. Went to test drive one as soon as it came available. The interior is breathtaking and gorgeous! Downsides: underpowered engine. Comes with a standard 4 cylinder engine which is underwhelming. The sound in the entire car would not turn on, despite several people trying. I also found the lane keep assist to be very annoying and unnecessary. It stole the driving experience from me and I hated it. It is an absolutely beautiful car, but it is made in China and the quality reflects that.
I want to buy a TCCN shirt that has AMD's face on it and says "And that's what they went with". I don't understand what could compel someone to buy this over a Lexus IS. The most important thing to me is what they will resell for in 10 years and i'm going to be conservative and say the IS in 10 years will resell for $10,000 more than this.
Sounds like the BMW xdrive with the axles going through the oil pan and engine block utilizing multiple seals that are notorious to failing. Ask anyone that has a BMW xdrive for more than 5 years.
If that is a “mid car” that feels “old” I don’t know what you drove before. Anyone who currently drives a 4+ year old car won’t call this one old or even mid. Only if you only drive top of the range mercedes bmw or even higher. Sure but how many people can say that. For the majority of people this car will feel very luxurious and certainly not old.
I have the hyundai santa fe hybrid, I looked at genesis and their line is not very innovative !! Their bigger versions look like the old hyundai veracruz which I owned in 2007. I wish they would update their whole line up, and make some hybrids and a 6 or 7 passenger like the size of the palisade.

The AWD system reminds me of the lexus IS AWD adaptation with the axles going through the oil pan :)
Im liking the rear wheel drive option, way better than fwd imo...
They're only RWD or AWD
That's why I bought a RWD GS, one of the last of its breed.
Word to anyone in the market :
Do not buy one new. The depreciation hit on these is on par if not worse than the German equivalents.
Its been proven, check out the review videos, they r out there
Why anyone would buy this over a Honda Accord is beyond me.
@@mikea5205bro this is leagues above that econobox😭
I'm waiting on my 2022 G70 3.3TT with the complete package. Few more years 😂
I like their cars. I don't like their reputation for treating their customers poorly after the sale. It's surprising that the new kid in town would do that.
Go to a Genesis dealer
AMD, I am still coming to grips with the term - Old School Genesis. 😉
If I had this car, I'd have to play some old Phil Collins / Genesis music on the stereo.
You seem more stressed out in newer videos, compared to a year ago. I hope all is well - i love your videos.
I’d love the GV70 suv, but there’s no dealer within 90 miles so if I had an issue that’s a long trip for service.
You said you've never had to replace any parts of the exhausts in your Sonatas, and then the very next sentence you say you "recall replacing flex pipes on the 2007 and 2011."
I would definetly consider changing a flex pipe to be major exhaust work along with exhaust manifold work and gaskets change/removal/repair or putting on aftermarket headers or mufflers, minor work is like tightening a clamp, putting tubing back in a hanger that slipped out, spot welding an exhaust leak etc etc.
Confusing statement aside that's not a bad record though if thats all the trouble you had either way. you never had to do 02 sensors in a 300k km Sonata?
If you ever get the chance, please do the v6 model of this car. Its fsr more desirable and i would love to see a mechanics 2cents on the build quality
I think it's a great looking car. Great color also.
It’s an entry level genesis geewizz bro.😂 still an awesome car for the price.
If Genesis does an update and offers a Magma version, they’ll have something.
after 17 mins of straight up shittingon the car 17:00 bro said "things i dont like about it" 🤣
lol I thought the same
You can combine the last 2 segments into one. They're kind of redundant in your videos.
Consider doing a review of the new 2025 Civic Hybrid Sedan.
It will be great
I'm sure he'll review one in the future.
Can we talk about the 3.3T?
Can we get the Kia k5 2.5 naturally aspirated engine!?
There is a reason why Hyundai/Kia and now Genesis are world's #3 automaker. You get a LOT for your money, and now add reliability, quality material, appealing design, and attention to details in the equation, it's a great recipe for success. I bet most people never thought these brands would be sitting at #3, above any Detroit brand, Honda and Nissan in 2024.
If Hyundai designed better looking cars in their genesis lineup I would consider a used one.
All of that’s fine until it gets to 100k miles, then you’re playing with fire

Great video, the G70 is a fantastic car. And yes, you're spot on about the transmission, it is German. The G70 and it's sister car the StingerGT was engineered by German engineers from Audi and BMW M Division.
No, they make their own transmissions.
Almost all 4 cylinder engines are buzzy; we had a 22 RAV4 and though the A25A-FKS was pretty powerful and efficient it was obnoxiously noisy in my opinion
Hi I don't if it's just me but the audio doesn't sound like it use too it's like an echo
do you think this engine is better than mazda's skyactiv 2.5T ? in 2022 I was choosing if I should buy cx-5 turbo or GV70. cx-5 was cheaper and gv70 was hard to find, so I went with cx-5. Not sure if it was a mistake. I was concerned this engine might not be reliable
Please do reviews on bmws, etc. Would enjoy your commentary
same motor as the sonata n line i didnt know they put it in this anyways great motor awesome on fuel I have a sonata n line 3 years old 70,000kms so far not one issue pretty pleased only thing missing is the AWD for the winter
Can you please compare this with V6 engine? I'm buying an LS500 with a V6 very soon. I would love to know which is better. Thank you!

Once I saw that dummy half screen half analog dash it was a wrap. And I wanted one bad last year.
Hyundai and Kia chief engineer is from BMW mtec division. Genesis being the luxury division
Could you review the genesis GV 80 ?
im not sure about this car, but i would guess it uses the same AWD system as the Stinger, which Kia decided to use Magna system, Actimax to be exact, a very robust and reliable AWD system.
I prefer the older version with the proper HVAC controls in Prestige trim.
18 inch rotors in the front?
I’ve been waiting for this !!
I rly like the shooting brake one
Hyundai makes their own transmissions

This guy must be a kia Stinger fan or m340i fan because he seems to really despise the g70. He should've reviewed the 3.3t prestige. It has a better interior and stronger engine. I have a 2022 one. I love mine!
Don't buy a luxury car and cheap out on the engine choice. Gotta go with the 3.3T engine on this car.
The 2.5t is a pretty good engine and if your an older person or someone that doesn’t care about power it’s a good choice… with that said I would take the 3.3t
300 to 365 hp. You add more weight also. Not huge diference.
@@estuardo2985 I had first gen genesis with older turbo engine and it lasted pretty good all the way past 100k miles.
Unfortunately you have the poorly equipped g70. Would have been nice to review the engine and package that actually makes the car nice/worth it. You are missing tons of power and features with the car shown in the video
The 2.5T puts out 300 Horsepower, which should be enough for most people.
Devnull182 the twin turbo v6
@@billkallas1762buts it’s not the engine that the car was initially designed for. It’s made for people that don’t have enough money for the full g70. Hp number doesn’t matter. There are a few features/tech options that are only available with the 3.3. HUD, LSD, Nappa seats, alcantera headliner, 360°cams , power trunk, electronic suspension. So getting the 2.5 handicaps the car both in performance and features
@@billkallas1762and Amd literally said himself at the end of the video, Genesis should have never offered the 4 cyl option on these cars. The 3.3 should be the only option
The 3.3 is less reliable than the 2.5t.
I still can’t bring myself to spend serious money on a Korean car. Just the way they handle recalls and issues turns me away. Even worse than the American brands, say what you want about Toyota…yes they have issues but they fix them right unlike all the others who deny and eventually put a half assed bandaid on
Can you review the new Lincoln Nautilus
I wanted one really bad. Went to test drive one as soon as it came available. The interior is breathtaking and gorgeous! Downsides: underpowered engine. Comes with a standard 4 cylinder engine which is underwhelming. The sound in the entire car would not turn on, despite several people trying. I also found the lane keep assist to be very annoying and unnecessary. It stole the driving experience from me and I hated it. It is an absolutely beautiful car, but it is made in China and the quality reflects that.
It is an in-house Hyundai design transmission.
The drive shaft and transmission look to be off an all wheel drive Chrysler 300.

Fair n reasonable....aging is the world
Sounds like the BMW xdrive with the axles going through the oil pan and engine block utilizing multiple seals that are notorious to failing. Ask anyone that has a BMW xdrive for more than 5 years.
Wish you had the 3.3 v6 instead as I think that’s what most people are going for if they choose this vehicle.
I think these looked better before the refresh. The 2 line thing is forced on this older car
Thanks for the video
If that is a “mid car” that feels “old” I don’t know what you drove before. Anyone who currently drives a 4+ year old car won’t call this one old or even mid. Only if you only drive top of the range mercedes bmw or even higher. Sure but how many people can say that. For the majority of people this car will feel very luxurious and certainly not old.
I think the movable seat is not for luxury but to help parents putting babies in a car seat
You too can have a cheap feeling/driving BMW 3 series that still depreciates fast!
