Man, imagine a Code Veronica remake that brought it up to par with the original trilogy's remakes. The thing that makes this most enticing for me is the idea of D.C. Douglas hamming it up in the debut of Matrix-era Wesker.
code veronica's initial exlusive status on the dreamcast was the selling point for me. Good console. I got it for christmas in 99. Hey Johnny, saw your video from today and just seen this one. I’m a massive fan. Love your stuff. Stuck at home across the pond, in London, so thanks for your great words at the beginning of the video.
When Code Veronica first released back in 2000 (20 years ago!), it received nothing but praise, but I'm noticing that it's gotten more criticism over the years when compared to other Resident Evil titles. I don't really understand this as I have always been a really big fan of this entry. At any rate, I think we can all agree that a Code Veronica remake would be interesting.
@@kratosgow342 I don't think Code Veronica has aged any better or worse than other Resident Evil titles and most of the complaints I hear about the game (backtracking, level design, ect.) always seem very superfluous to me.
@@joshuanelson6795 Well, they aren't superfluous. They radically change the pacing of the game. Backtracking DOES add up in any game, and the fact so much of it is mandatory doesn't do Code Veronica any favors. It's Devil May Cry 4 before that ws a thing, repetition is unavoidable in game design but making it more evident will hurt the game.
@@scissorman44 Backtracking has been a major part of every classic Resident Evil game. I fail to see how the backtracking in Code Veronica is so much worse than past entries. It doesn't help that none of the people I've come across who complain about the backtracking in this game ever bother to explain what makes it so egregious. Honestly, the majority of the criticisms I've heard people make of Code Veronica can easily be applied to other Resident Evil games as well.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X aka the Hardest RE Game That's The Most Underappreciated & Overlooked Game in the mainline series, Claire's a BADASS, Returning of Albert Wesker & Chris Redfield, Annoying Steve who Kicks Ass, Fun Difficult Boss Fights, TRUE Sequel To RE2, Weird Story and Villains, Literal Darker Atmosphere, Gothic Mansions, & One Of My FAVORITEs that NEEDS to be played and recognized!
Nah. You didn't bungle that outro. Thanks for the content and I liked this episode! I'm super excited to see the next episode on RE remake and RE zero because they are both games I own and haven't started.
Code Veronica's interesting because its a bit of the odd game out for the series and doesn't exactly fit into either the classic Raccoon City survival horror era (0-3, REmake) nor the more action orient direction the series took after this (4-6). The different locations, distinct playable character ratio (half Claire, half Chris), and other aesthetic choices more or less place it in its own category of being a tank control Resident Evil game that lacks the similar terror elements of the titles that proceeded it.
The dreamcast wasn't on its way out at all with this game. This game was released in early 2000 right after the most succesful western console launch of all time; the dreamcast
Johnny in the original code Veronica the first appearance of Wesker is in the monitor room and is more cheeky about it. They even hide his face. The downside is he doesn’t get to matrix punch Alexia and runs off like a chicken 😂.
Johnny you have had a rough few months and I hope you and you, your family and friends are all doing well in these confusing times. Best wishes from me and my group of friends. We continue to watch your stuff all the time and I'm happy your still going strong. Again take care and be safe!!
Me before this marathon: "Johnny can this marathon wait, I really don't care about Resident Evil" Me now, playing RE2 remake: "FINALLY, took you long enough to release the Code Veronica video, is it April 3rd yet?"
I think Resident Evil is one of the most interesting video game franchises to date. I haven't even played most of the games, but the atmosphere and tone and the evolution thereof throughout the series is so fascinating. And the gameplay of the classic games is rather unique even in its own genre.
I think people overstate how Steve is "annoying". Sure, his original portrayal ain't exactly the best (understatement, I know), but I don't see any need to hate on the kid.
If Claire's scene with Wesker during the first part of the game feels like it's awkwardly placed, that's because it was. That Wesker and Claire scene was added for the Complete/X editions, and it wasn't in the original game. In the original version, Wesker doesn't show up until Chris makes it to Rockfort Island. Capcom had to have Wesker disappear right after meeting Claire, because if he stuck around more I imagine that would've required them to redo huge portions of the first half of the game to accommodate that plot change.
RE Code Veronica according to Shinji Mikami is "The Real Resident Evil 3" but since Capcom have a exclusive contract with Sony where the Resident Evil main series only available on Sony console, the spinoff "Biohazard : Last Escape" become Resident Evil 3 : Nemesis"
This isn't true. I still don't get where this info comes from, when even back in 2001 there was an interview with the RE directors where they talk about Code Veronica being made simply because they cancelled a port of RE2 to Saturn and this was a sort of an apology. (Director's HAZARD, it can be found subbed on YT) Original RE3 was developed by Kamiya and was cancelled because of PS2 being announced and Capcom realizing the game would come out too late for it to be a success and also because just porting it to PS2 would make it outdated. There was a big interview with the director of RE3:Nemesis by Project Umbrella in 2012 that goes over all this. Can't really link stuff on YT but if you search for "Yasuhisa Kawamura Interview (Project Umbrella)" you should find it pretty easily. It's a really interesting interview all in all.
Life has changed a lot for me since middle school, but even in college now, if there is one thing that hasn't changed, it's that I almost religiously look forward to your uploads popping up in my feed. Watching this video makes me want to buy some T-Vi...taminz ! I love the fact you rightfully pointed out how Code Veronica is a "product of its time" : cheesy dialogues from the 90 (well.. this arguably always was part of RE...but Veronica brings it to another level), Di caprio Steve right after Titanic was a thing, Matrix Wesker, John Woo's doubles wielding gun/Uzi and an overall more cinematic/drama oriented game that obviously wanted to try and make good use of the new console era.
This have would benefit SO MUCH from a makeover! It's over of my favorite childhood games despite how exhausting it could be at points, with a few tweaks white keeping the music and atmosphere it could really make this ugly duckling shine
17:51 so... what it looks like is happening there, is that the bowgun's projectile has travel time instead of being hitscan. Your auto-aim is aiming at where the Zombie's chest *is*, but the zombie's swaying so much that by the time the projectile gets there, it's where the zombie's chest *was*.
Hey Johnny I know it’s a stretch but can we pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee get this intro music back??!? The new intro is cool and all but this one right here is something of pure gold . 😊
Here’s what I heard. Apparently, during development, Steve was meant to be Leon, but Capcom changed their mind when they realised that they would be killing off a fan favourite. Granted, it’s just a rumour, but it WOULD explain why Steve looked a lot like Leon in the initial release.
While I've heard about this rumor, there's one massive counterpoint: Resident Evil Gaiden. It's a (once canon) spin off for the Gameboy, and...they kill Leon off in that game. It shares the writer from Code Veronica too. They realized it was a bad idea and retconned the game but the fact Capcom allowed them to kill off Leon takes away some creedence to that rumor(which is often driven by shippers, so it loses even more by that alone)
Actually, for Gaiden, it’s not the fact that they had killed off Leon. In fact, they implied that HE was the Parasite B.O.W. they wrote it out of canon because it was meant to foreshadow a plot for Resident Evil 4 which never ended up getting used, so they wound up declaring the game non-canon.

code veronica's initial exlusive status on the dreamcast was the selling point for me. Good console. I got it for christmas in 99. Being a huge fan of the 1st two re's on ps1 I had to play the new re on next gen hardware as soon as I could. The forage into the 6th console generation was a good one thanks to dreamcast and code veronica.
Sending some love to all those going through the Covid-19 outbreak just as I am. Everyone try and stay safe, secure, and don't panic. And for gods sake, leave some toilet paper for the rest of us!!!
Amen too that
Good luck to all of ya!
Keep positive and stay safe everyone.
I'm glad in my hometown, they finally made a "Only one package for each costumer" rule. It's redicolous how some people don't think of others.
greetings from germany btw.
nothing like thinking Johnny hit a 2nd puberty due to his voice being deep and soothing, along with speaking at a slow enough pace to make me feel slightly uncomfortable. i then realize the speed setting i set was at 0.95. got scared.
I am suprized you didn't mention the soundtrack to the game, it is one of, if not the best resident evil soundtrack.
Because it doesn’t aged well as time passed unlike RE3 which aged better cause the issue like Johnny mentioned (backtracking, level design etc.)
Let's hope to God that they completely erase Steve in the remake.
Interesting thing about Steve. In the dreamcast version he had a Leonardo Dicaprio haircut, but in CVX they changed it.
Nah. You didn't bungle that outro. Thanks for the content and I liked this episode! I'm super excited to see the next episode on RE remake and RE zero because they are both games I own and haven't started.

Christ, so that’s where TFS got the Hojo impression for the Final Fantasy VII abridged series...
HOJO!
Watch my vids on this game
I highlight exactly how n where this game stands out
The dreamcast wasn't on its way out at all with this game.
Thanks for the review Johnny! And thanks for giving us the "wash your hands" and "stay safe" speech!
Same goes to you and your family man! Thank you!
Me before this marathon: "Johnny can this marathon wait, I really don't care about Resident Evil"
Me now, playing RE2 remake: "FINALLY, took you long enough to release the Code Veronica video, is it April 3rd yet?"
I agree with this. Steven really isn't that annoying to me, I even felt sorry for the guy.
JON. I ALREADY BOUGH RAY CONS! I GET IT!
THEYRE REALLY GOOD! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!
I'm excited for this marathon to resume at some point just for the Wesker "MMM..!" to return.
How fitting, covering a game, involving a viral outbreak. Johnny was playing 4D chess deciding to do this marathon.
I'm glad you're OK Johnny, The Coronavirus is getting an extremely pain in our Asses!
Thanks for the vid Johnny, it’s helping me get through while I’m sick
I'm glad you're ok Johnny
Cant kinda Live without u,Especially Your Vids
12:22 Normal? No. Welcomed? YES!
Now this is a Resident evil game I don't often see people talk about.
Like how the instrumental in the background of the start of the video is "Unknown From M.E" from SA2.
RE Code Veronica according to Shinji Mikami is "The Real Resident Evil 3" but since Capcom have a exclusive contract with Sony where the Resident Evil main series only available on Sony console, the spinoff "Biohazard : Last Escape" become Resident Evil 3 : Nemesis"
and im glad for that
i don't hate Code Veronica but my god it was a huuge step down of the PS1 trilogy
This isn't true. I still don't get where this info comes from, when even back in 2001 there was an interview with the RE directors where they talk about Code Veronica being made simply because they cancelled a port of RE2 to Saturn and this was a sort of an apology.
(Director's HAZARD, it can be found subbed on YT)
Original RE3 was developed by Kamiya and was cancelled because of PS2 being announced and Capcom realizing the game would come out too late for it to be a success and also because just porting it to PS2 would make it outdated.
Sorry if a sound a bit melodramatic, but thanks for still consistently being entertaining and informative after all this time. Times are tough rn and stuff like this helps make it better for a lot of people.
Been catching up on the old school Tomb Raider games.. That'd make for an interesting review, Johnny.
I would love to see him review the classics. The trilogy and AOD are personal favorites of mine.
I've been getting into the Stylish Action genre with Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, Bayonetta, and Bayonetta 2.
@scribble71891
AoD was a load of shit.
1, 3 and 4 are good games.
13:31 That laugh you do when you say "You two look great." On a pic with 3 girls
"Who's that handsome guy next to the girls"
6:17 "the measures I gotta take to stay green"
That was more hilarious than it should've been. I'm sorry Johnny.
7:27 "photobombing a family picture"
"MMM!"
9:02 - how does one kill with laser beams? What kinda laser beams?
9:23 - "Give-a-shit-o-meter" I'm gonna need a "give-a-fuck-meter" now.
12:54 Family vs Family kinda final battle? It does sound very interesting.
22:23 - them sound effects. 😂😂😂
*"Look At Him Back There It's Like He's Photobombing A Family Picture."*
I laughed so hard lol! 😂😂😂
What a perfect time for a Resident Evil marathon!
Thanks for your hours of entertainment man. Stay safe and everybody in the comments as well
Blessing us with a new video during these difficult times, thanks johnny!
Honestly the Resident Evil games had been putting more emphasis on action since RE2. RE2 had way more ammo and then RE3 brought in the dodge mechanic.
I never would of thought that a review on a Resident Evil game with have a feel good outro. Thanks Johnny
Johnny: kept you waiting, huh?
I remember borrowing my friends Dreamcast just to play Code Veronica. The PS2 has only just come out.
Thank you Johnny for keeping me intertain over the years, and I hope you and your love ones stay happy and healthy. BTW this C- virus sucks.
Thanks for the content Johnny is dope seeing you have sponsors just shows the channel is growing keep up the good work
“Don’t hog the goddamn toilet paper.”
*looks at toilet paper fort*
FBI, OPEN UP!
Fort Squidward is now all but impenetrable!
@@Comkill117 *blows up Fort Squidward with a rocket launcher*
Yeah, I'm not so sure about that.
I love your explotion man so quickly and fast its so awesome i wish i had review like you...
I'm glad to finally get this review, I finished Claire's campaign and pretended I finished it.
A bit daunting looking back at Johnny videos from the Covid era
I replayed CVX some months ago after almost 20years. It was a blast. It's still a great game!
Hey Johnny I know it’s a stretch but can we pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee get this intro music back??!? The new intro is cool and all but this one right here is something of pure gold . 😊
“The thing” will be the next outbreak in the next game
Hahaha "going outside on 2020"
Nice one, Johnny
Thank you for what you do Johnny, it is very appreciated.
