*Nudge glasses and megaman nerdism in* Okay, it's time to explain WHY the story of X4 does sadly make only sense IF you read the Japanese manual and supplementary materials. **First: Colonel and Iris.** Colonel was actually an experimental robot, the attempt by scientists to create a reploid (aka a robot capable of free will) that can still act like an order following robot perfectly in times of war. A perfect blend of human and machine as you prefer. As he had a military purpose, he had to both be a flawless warrior and commander and a compassionate father to his men. Sadly, this failed spectacularly as both routines clashed endlessly in the mind of the robot, so he was turned into two halves: Colonel as the angry warrior, Iris as the compassionate commander. This explains a lot: - That robots have sisters and brothers. - Colonel literally CANNOT surrender. which is both why he didn't drop the weapons in front of X and why Zero, having understood that from his interactions with Iris, decided that incapacitating Colonel by surprise was the best option (by cutting his limbs?). - Iris being a reploid that was capable of Love (Zero is an anomaly, although he's clearly either hiding it or ignoring people having feelings for him, an other plot point in the Megaman Zero series). - Why Iris exploded that easily after the Zero fight. What killed her first is her brother's core causing a corruption of her systems, as she basically fused into it to fight Zero. That's also why she didn't "explode" at the end and why they couldn't pull a Megaman X 2 reconstruction on her. **Second: Magma Dragoon.** Not only were fighting spars frowned upon ("Oh, he's a bit too bloodthirsty? Must be turning Maverick"), but do your really think the Megaman X version of Akuma would be satisfied with friendly spars? **Third: the plot.** After the shitshow caused by Dr Doppler during X3, trust of humans toward reploids hit an all time low and patience and robot rights got overriden by overzealousness, rascism, and radical solutions. This is why: - the Repliforce couldn't surrender. If they did, they would have been slaughtered like cattle without a fair trial just to put the humans at ease. That's also why General couldn't do a thing against Sigma. If he said "Sigma tried or is trying to bargain with me", the repliforce would have been slaughtered the same way. Reason why his plan involved self-defense while his army built their utopia, before running there for safety (Slash beast for example was transporting goods for said utopia). Sadly, some of his top general got corrupted by the Sigma Virus, explaining why Split Mushroom and Cyber Peacock did actually start attacks at points. - It's also, finally, why both him and Iris fought. Iris was protecting her family (without Colonel, the disorganized Repliforce would have been easy prey to the Maverick hunters, unless she proved they still can fight by beating her lover and top maverick hunter Zero first) and General his army (reason why he says "my fate is sealed, I had no choice" at the start of his battle) **Last, Zero.** With all the conditions, misinformation (thanks Double), and anger floating around, he felt compelled to kill Colonel. Both to subdue the repliforce, save face, and save the maverick hunter's face. He didn't expect the conflict to escalate this way and end with innocents like Iris getting killed in the crossfire, causing his "what am I fighting for" speell as he got a severe reality check on the world he was a part of. ... I should probably go get some sun.
Could of explain all that in the game and it's not like they could use the excuse of "We didn't want to make the game long" because other 3d games at that time Ocarina of Time, Sonic Adventure, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, etc. had cutscenes that explain why stuff was happening in them until of relying on supplementary materials to fill in some plotholes that could of been easily explain with a few cutscene here or there.
Well... 1. Animation isn't cheap. 2. This is a Megaman Game. In the nineties. Players didn't really want story back then to justify the cost of animating / cut-scening the whole deal. 3. Most of the addittional material was released AFTER Megaman X4, when Inafune was trying to "clean up" the X plot in order to finish the X arc with Megaman X5 and start working on Megaman Zero. A plan he had to throw out the window when Capcom decided to ignore him and make X6. All these reasons and your point are why Megaman X maverick Hunter was made. Inafune wanted to reboot the series and remake its story from the ground up to fit it better between classic and Zero (or, according to some, because he was pissed Capcom gave the Megaman Zero story an ACTUAL CONCLUSION and wanted it to end on the cliffhanger at the end of Zero 3. Which, if you played the Zero franchise, is dumb. Because it would assume that Zero, after destroying the main weapon of the villain, leaves the bastard in his position of power free to torture and kill.)
is it weird that it kinda also describes "Captain America: Civil War?" Tony: Cap, we have to sign the accords. We cause too much damage! Cap: HRRBUTMUHPRIDE! We need to stay independent from the UN! Tony: HRRBUTMUHPRIDE! I'm being guilt-tripped over the small number of people that weren't evacuated from Sokovia and I don't wanna listen to you!
Purple Dolphin Studios the thing with Cap is that he has a point that the lists will be abused and put the Heroes in danger if it fell into the wrong hands
KelvinBelmont - He might find X6 something along the vain of Sonic ‘06, but true, X7 seems lackluster, especially since Capcom thought it was a brilliant idea to split their resources to produce Megaman Z2 for GBA, and released both on the same day (10/14/2003) in North America. Edit: Confused/replaces Mega Man ZX for Z2.
VGMLucifier ZX and X7 releasing on the same day? Funnily enough, a similar case happened to Sonic. Sonic Rush and Shadow released on the same day. Like X7 and ZX, one was lackluster, the other was good.
When you spliced in that LA Noire "Oh shit." clip I frantically slammed the pause button and had to laugh for a good minute or so. Johnny, you've always been a funny guy to me but you've really been on a roll lately. Keep it up.
04:04 About Colonel...Well Johnny, according to the wiki, - "Repliforce scientists attempted to develop an ultimate fighting Reploid with both a high fighting spirit and peace-loving heart (basically creating a robot like X), but the differences were ultimately considered irreconcilable and the project was considered a failure. The scientists then decided to split them up into two Reploids, resulting in the creation of Iris and her brother Colonel. Her half was of the peaceful arbitrator, and Colonel's was of the strong-willed fighter." Meaning that Colonel probably didn't even have it in his programming to take the peaceful solution and consider what is equivalent to "surrender" in his mind.
Repliforce wasn't completely dismantled. It still exists in X5 (Spiral Pegasus, formerly known as The Skiver, was part of it), although it's certainly just a shadow of its former self, and it's not clear if it's still around after the Eurasia incident. Mega Man Zero 1 pays homage to Repliforce: in the hidden Neo Arcadia base where you fight Leviathan, the Repliforce logo can be seen on the yellow submarines.
Not just The Skiver, there was also Mattrex... Well ex-Repliforce... Something about having an illegal weapons warehouse he set up during his Repliforce days with his superiors knowing it... And Repliforce put this guy in its disaster prevention team, wut?...
So I just looked up the cast of this game and the person who voiced Zero voiced Duo and Astro Man from Mega Man 8. The person who voiced X is the same person who voiced Mega Man in Mega Man 8, who is indeed a girl. The person who voiced Proto Man from Mega Man 8 voiced someone in this game named "Colonel". The person who voiced Roll, Aqua Man, and Eddie from Mega Man 8 voiced Iris in this game. And the rest of the voice cast has either done nothing else after this game or has barely done anything since this game.
I never understood why X and Mega Man have the same voice actress. It's so unfitting. Did they think they were the same person? The Japanese version actually gave X a male actor and Ryotaro Okiayu has been Zero's Japanese voice actor in every game since this one.
I just guess they didn't have the budget to get other voice actors, cuz apparently this and 8 were recorded in Japan. Though eventually they got more fitting voice actors.
@@Pan_Z That's because outside of fighting games with no real spoken dialogue besides grunts, it was more or less a requirement to have a dub for Japanese games when they were released in the west. On top of video game voice acting being a relatively new thing at the time and therefor not having a stable of reliable actors to turn to, most of these dubs were non-union productions as well which barred most professional voice actors stateside to be in them. Capcom in this period would just record their dubs in-house in Japan with employees or random people off the street that were fluent in English because it was cheap, quick, and avoided any legal red tape involving unions.
12:03 “USE YOUR KARATE CHOP ACTION!””HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” “SO LONG GUYS, REVOLUTION’S CANCELED!” I’m sorry and I will always appreciate a Toy Story reference.
Today really is Mega Man X day. Never thought I'd see a Johnny vs. Mega Man X video the same day the X Legacy Collections come out. Also....WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOORRRR?!?!?!?!!!!! (and I saw that Neptunia mk2 screenshot there.....)
7:54 Your logic is sound, but Colonel _was_ holding his sword before he arrived in the Memorial Hall if you look closely at his hands. So you could make the assumption that Colonel was trying to instigate a fight, and would have ambushed Zero if Zero didn't get the jump on him. This is further proved when he asked X to come to Memorial Hall in X's campaign, and Colonel attacks him dispite X seeking a diplomatic solution to the Repliforce coup.
I still don't find it fair how X got the short end of the stick in the story department, IN HIS OWN SERIES, no less. But that's just me. And being honest, they didn't even do Zero himself that much justice because how lazy the writing in general feels. *And spoiler alert to everyone new here.* It only gets worse in X5 & X6. It just really feels like the writers weren't even trying hard enough. Seriously, Johnny. You see X4's story as trash (and it is), but me personally? If anything, I find X5's story to be the most disappointing out of all them. Because X5 was supposed to originally be the Grand Finale of the whole X Series, and would presumably answer and clarify a lot of things. But it FAILED to answer much of anything. And to make things worse was the "Good and Bad Ending" setup. NEARLY every piece of detail or information (outside of Zero's ending) is implied, not directly stated or confirmed. The game itself barely tells us anything, and it was supposed to be the Grand Finale of the series. The way X4 and X5 are written almost feels like the writers wanted a deep and big story, but wanted to keep the actual writing within said stories to a minimum (This was Johnny's biggest complaint with Skyward Sword). At least X6 has the excuse of being under a rushed development. And because of that, the entire story of the X series as a whole has been nothing but pointless buildups toward payoffs that never happened. I'm not busting the writers' chops, I'm just asking, why?
*+D R* Really? Huh. Well, it's not just Capcom, platformers, in general, almost always seem to have either bad or ambiguous stories. It's like Gaming Companies, in general, all have this mindset that platformers can never have good storytelling. When games like Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Metroid Prime 1-3 have clearly proven other wise.
@Sabe533 No.2, Huh? You thought that Mega Man x4 writers wanted to tell a deep and big story? How did you get that impression? The story is as plain as a bowl of rice. And the fact that X doesn't even have much of a story, leads me to further feel that the writers just wanted to tell a simple story, but forgot to make it more well-written. You say "It only gets worse" as if X4 was the start of the series decline. No; Megaman x5 was the start of the X series downfall. Outside of the story though, there's a reason why some people consider X4 to be one of the high points of the series; because of the solid gameplay, level design, and tight level design (something X5, X6, and X7 lacked) . If anything, X5 was also the start of "tries too hard to tell a grand story". Also, you can't excuse X6 for having a bad story due to six months of development. Megaman X2 came out *six months* after X1, and it had decent story (though not anything special). Six months of development has been enough time in the past, for Capcom to make a polished Mega man X (in terms of story as well). For x6 though, it's clear that the developers were just lazy. And to answer your question about payoffs, the X series was supposed to end after X5. But Inafune's team began working on X6 behind his back. This messed up the Megaman Zero series timeline.
Yeah maybe because I only got into Mega Man about 4 years ago I never got what was so awesome about Zero. I like his design but he seems like a spotlight stealer to the level of Weasley in Star Trek TNG
*@Justin Stewart* Yyyyyeah. Duff McWhalen's stage was kind of a turn-off for me as well. So, I can't argue there. And being honest, I still really like the stories of X5 & X6. Call me crazy, but as bad as they are, I still find them really interesting, especially X6. I really thought they had something going there with Isoc and Zero (too bad it wasn't developed more). And bonus points for Gate for being (unless you count Lumine and Redips) being the only villain in the series to actually be the true main villain of one the games, instead of Sigma. Oh sure, Sigma's there, but Gate was the true mastermind behind the whole thing.
There's a backstory for Iris in Megaman Xtreme 2 for the GBA though a light one. It's her first time working with X and Zero in that game. In Project X Zone for the 3DS, Zero meets a ghost of Iris in a variation of Cyber Space. She's still the same person holding onto a dream of a world where Reploids are the only society. She still wants this until Zero snaps out of his traumatic reaction to realizing that he let Iris down. If you play that game you actually get emotional closure from Iris's death when she wishes Zero good luck and says goodbye. Iris's voice actress died later in the year which make the scenes in Project X Zone even more emotional for me. In addition it's revealed that X knew about Iris from X4 recognizing her as the Colonel's sister.
TheDevilBreaker That one chapter made me really love the first Project X Zone. Zero getting closure and Ryu noting that for a machine X has a strong soul because he's able to use the Hadoken, it's a great chapter.
X4 feels kinda slippery and just odd. It's also too damn easy (and this is coming from someone who finds X1 too easy too). It's still one of the 3 good X games.
I had the luck of only playing the japanese version of this as a kid. I couldn't understand the plot but I didn't care. I was completly blown away by the gameplay, OST and the amazing and surprisingly bloody (and well acted) cut scenes. Zero's japanese screams of pain when Iris dies still echoe in my ears as some greatest best emoted and well done voice acting. This game blew my 8 year old ass off my back then and I still consider my all time favorite Megaman game
Iris does appear in the gameboy color game Xtreme 2 and she acts as Zeroes navigator. Basically it allows for her to interact with the other maverick hunters, and by others I mean Zero AND X. Sadly she doesn't get any development in that game either so (shoots her)
You didn’t even talk about the sound department? While the soundtrack is amazing, I really expected you to mention X and Zero’s ingame sounds. (You know, Zero’s YEAH YEAH WOW YEAH WOW WOW YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH)
HOOO HAA HOOO!!!! And "It's not over yeeet!!" were some classics no doubt. I first played this game when I was like 9, so those lines really stuck with me. Even as an adult, those lines will slip out occasionally from the subconscious lol
I got the X collection as well, but I'm sorely disappointed that there's no option to switch X4 and other games into their Japanese versions. Also we don't get X3's Ps1 intro.
Actually (chronologically speaking from within the series timeline) Iris did make her first appearance in Megaman Xtreme 2. Not that I fault Johnny for not knowing that since a good chunk of both Xtreme 1 and 2 was mostly unoriginal and Iris didn't really get much in the way of character development in Xtreme 2 either. I mean hell, didn't even know about either of those games until X8 was about to come out so that shows how impactful those 2 titles were.
from watching his livestreams for charity i can tell you that johnny knows about those games. he probably didnt bring them up because he either forgot or decided to not mention them since hes not doing them in this marathon.
Johnny I know you're trying to explain why the story is a dumbass. But because your commentary is hilarious it only makes me like it more looking it in a non serious manner. This is one reason why your reviews are amazing.
Interesting point! In my Review, I actually thought that the Story here in X4 was the best in the series so far, Minus X1. You bring up some good points though, and I totally respect your POV, especially about Zero attacking Colonel, didn't even think of that! Perhaps I might've missed parts of the story; I thought it was Sigma pulling some strings to create a Civil War between the Reploids. Working on X5 right now, can't wait to see your take on Mega Man X5!
Think the game actually does quite a bit to show that Sigma has his fingers in everything what with 3 of the 8 bosses working for him (look at the health bars) and Double being his spy within the Maverick Hunters
Yeah well so was everyone else if you think about it. "Communication? Conversation? What are those?!" Seriously a simple 5 minutes of 20 questions from one or both sides... and this whole thing would have blown over almost instantly.
Here's one way I think this could have worked better. Assuming that the Zero ending of MMX3 is the canon ending, Dr Doppler is still alive and decides to make a second attempt at Doppler Town. The project goes perfectly and the Reploids successfully found their own nation with its own standing army called Repliforce. And at first everything is great. The Reploids are living in a thriving society and are on good terms with Humanity. But then, a series of attacks start occurring. Human cities are attacked by what appear to be Repliforce troops. And likewise, the Reploid Nation is complaining about attacks that they claim were carried out by The Maverick Hunters. These attacks are later revealed to be a massive false flag operation carried out by Sigma and his followers. By the time the game starts, this has been going on for several years. This would make the eventual conflict a little more believable since the Sky Lagoon would simply be the last straw for both sides rather than the sole cause. And Colonel's refusal to lay down his arms in front of X or Zero would also make some sense because by that point he would have good reason to assume that Maverick Hunters like X and Zero are enemies who will attack him and his troops without provocation. So why should they lower their defenses? But, that's just my take.
In hindsight, I think it would've been better to set X4's story up as a kind of parallel to the Zero series. The game starts up explaining how the tension between The Maverick Hunters and Repliforce are building, and Sigma has Magma Dragoon, in Repliforce's name, crash the Sky Lagoon to cause things to boil over. Zero, instead of fighting Repliforce along with X, sides with them, believing the Colonel about Dragoon being a traitor, and is tasked with taking down maverick members of Repliforce. Meanwhile, X is fighting yhe same mavericks, believing them to be sent by Repliforce. X and Zero's differing ideologies cause a rift to begin to form between to two, after X kills the Colonel, and Zero kills Iris, who in her grief induced madness, blames Zero for the Colonel's death, they fight. X witnesses Zero kill Iris, and Zero blames X for the whole situation. It also would've been a good reason to separate their campaigns, since it kinda seems pointless in this one.
6:24 Why didn’t you use the laughing Dr. Wily clip? Also, shame you didn’t mention the soundtrack, which is probably my favorite in the X series. The composer also did the OST for Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice and you can really tell.
But yeah, I agree Johnny. The whole Colonel and Iris thing in relation to Zero was handled sloppily. I much prefer Colonel.EXE and Iris.EXE's character and story in Megaman Battle Network.
It's funny because Colonel and Iris are *the exact same deal* as this game, minus Zero. They never elaborate for X4 in-game, but Battle Network's "they're the same person split up into two people meant to house a much bigger power" thing? Straight-up copied from the real Colonel and Iris...in the Japanese manual of X4. It's supposed to explain why Colonel is a dumbass who didn't surrender and just...what in the hell Evil Energy shit Iris pulled fighting Zero, it's supposed to be what's left of Colonel she fused with.
I got the story summary here: Zero’s story: Zero struggles to make sense of memories of his past and creation at the hands of Dr. Wily, while also being forced to fight an old war buddy who joined a coup along with his sister that Zero has feelings for. Zero is forced to kill both and struggles to come to grips with the tragedy. X’s story: “Everybody’s an idiot except me, and it’s pissing me off!”
Zuki More like it's the same word, romanized differently. Has nothing to do with which subseries they appear on. They are the same enemy, therefore should have the same name, and in Japanese they do, it's just that said name has been romanized different ways, ala Dr. Wright/Right/Light and Wily/Willy.
The way I see it, the "shade of grey" thrown in that caused the characters to question who their real enemies were was Sigma's intention, allowing there to be a little more chaos thrown in for when he comes out of the shadows to take over what little's left.
Sigma: Zero you nearly killed me and you were a maverick hunter!!!! Also sigma: WAIT ZERO YOU NEARLY KILLED ME AND YOU WERE A MAVERICK HUNTER???!?!!!!!
I'm curious, actually, will you be looking at the Megaman Xtreme duo on the game boy color? fun fact, if you want to know a bit more about iris, she's in at least one of them.
Xtreme 2 also came out *after* X4, keep in mind. Several YEARS after X4, in fact, as a GBC exclusive. As in it's Japanese marketing literally uses *6's* theme music.
nice love your views on these games too many people give these games unadulterated praise so it is nice to see a man who loves these games critique them as well
Awww... All I see in this comment section are memes about the voice acting and cutscenes and no trivia knowledge from the video itself. The Studio-Xebec animated cutscenes themseleves, animation-wise, hold up. However... I feel sad that noone knows just how much of a low-effort job Capcom gave on the localization. Yes the English voice acting is bad, but I wish Johnny looked into why that was: It was ALL done in-house in Capcom of Japan. Aside from the rush job translation, the voice casting for English was given nowhere NEAR the level of care that Japan's voice casting was given (I.E. X was given an actual, legitly cast voice actor in Kento Ito compared to Ruth Shirashi just shoved into the role of English X to do voices for one or two takes with little if any guidance.)
10:19 - Maybe that's why GUN raided the Ark? Gerald was making weapons, but they got a little nervous when they noticed one day that the most powerful one was pointing right at them.
Red Alert 3, Allied Campaign, Final Mission... Which is now a meme because of how Tim Curry was trying hard not to laugh before uttering "SPACE!"... Take note, this was his good take!
Great review Johnny! Mega Man X4 is my personal favorite Mega Man game purely because of Zero. I'm one of the few people who prefers the hack and slash aspect of Mega Man over the jump and shoot aspect of Mega Man, and I think Mega Man X4 gameplay wise does it the best. Really looking forward to your reviews of Mega Man X5 and Mega Man X6 by the way. :)
Iris' death is actually an important part of Zero's character development. It's when he realizes that he was made only to destroy, and he can't escape that.

This explains a lot:
- That robots have sisters and brothers.
This is why:
- the Repliforce couldn't surrender.
Iris was protecting her family (without Colonel, the disorganized Repliforce would have been easy prey to the Maverick hunters, unless she proved they still can fight by beating her lover and top maverick hunter Zero first) and General his army (reason why he says "my fate is sealed, I had no choice" at the start of his battle)
**Last, Zero.** With all the conditions, misinformation (thanks Double), and anger floating around, he felt compelled to kill Colonel.
Thanks for posting this.
I believe Cyber and Split isnt Repliforce members
Cyber Peacock, Split Mushroom, and Magma Dragoon are the only 3 marvericks who aren't members of the repliforce.

Every video we get closer and closer to having John playing X7 for the first time.

I love how he compares Capcom... to Capcom. Love you Johnny!
Her half was of the peaceful arbitrator, and Colonel's was of the strong-willed fighter."
Meaning that Colonel probably didn't even have it in his programming to take the peaceful solution and consider what is equivalent to "surrender" in his mind.
*If that was only explained in the fucking game*
It was explained in the manual...in Japan anyway.
That's still dumb that he was put in charge. I do like the implication that Zero's one canon love interest is basically half of X though.
No wonder people ship X and Zero
Well was this explanation given before or after X4 released? If it was after it’s half assed
Red in X7 is a former member of the Repliforce, that's about it
In X6 they mention it in that one cutscene after the intro stage, it was translated as “Reploids”, and in X7 Red was a former member
Wow. Seriously, x is voiced by a girl?
How long did it take to get that voice, that's where the voice acting budget went
Bizarre that Capcom would give X4 a dub if they weren't going to put any effort into it. Oh well, thanks for sharing

That's a good point, but I think they should've made that more obvious

Zero was Dante all along
Technically Nero.. but hey it's still pretty cool
I still don't find it fair how X got the short end of the stick in the story department, IN HIS OWN SERIES, no less. But that's just me. And being honest, they didn't even do Zero himself that much justice because how lazy the writing in general feels. *And spoiler alert to everyone new here.*
It only gets worse in X5 & X6.
Sabe533 No.2 Capcom isn't exactly known for their games having good stories.
Which solves the two decade old question of whose story was canon in Megaman X4
Get fucked ambiguity!

Gee, I kinda wish we got something like that *in the actual games* instead of having to slog through PXZ for that...
I can never get over how Sigma's laugh is spelled out as "hee hee hee." Like, that cracks me up even more reliably than the voice acting.
X4 I like more than X1. Even with the cheesy voice acting.
What am I fighting for?!?!

Think the game actually does quite a bit to show that Sigma has his fingers in everything
what with 3 of the 8 bosses working for him (look at the health bars)
and Double being his spy within the Maverick Hunters
I say the biggest issue with that Civil War idea is that the Colonel is kind of an idiot.
Yeah well so was everyone else if you think about it.
"Communication? Conversation? What are those?!"
Seriously a simple 5 minutes of 20 questions from one or both sides... and this whole thing would have blown over almost instantly.

Which is why he got Lucus Gilbertson. And later Johnny Yong Bosch.
Dats a good request
@@zeroattentiongaming820 He's already a frog -- isn't that enough for JYB memes hehe.

Yeah, can we just admit X6 is worse than X7 already?
I won't.
While both have ass level design, at least Zero's actually playable in X6, and the music's better there too.
I've always read "You were a maverick?" as Sigma being a sarcastic dick.
The way I see it, the "shade of grey" thrown in that caused the characters to question who their real enemies were was Sigma's intention, allowing there to be a little more chaos thrown in for when he comes out of the shadows to take over what little's left.
And uh, about Repliforce's discount Death Star, maybe it's because guns are their way of life? Like, Americans, I guess?
I wait for the day that Johnny vs. Johnny happens.
*_Trust nobody and not even yourself_*
Unexpected Red Alert 3 space reference! YES!!
Why is there not a mega man anime by now. At least its better then what CN is offering us with their Cartoon of megaman.
AnimeWolfgamer There is, just not foe the X series.
Battle Network has an anime that lasted a really long time.

I know about the battle network but why not a X series. That I feel it deserves more then the network games but I do remember that show being decent.
The manga is a pretty good read. It's just called, "Megaman X". There is some interesting character development. Only 9 chapters though.
Oooh there’s also that old SUPER FIGHTING ROBOT... MEGA MAN cartoon where Mega Man actually meets X.
Think in hindsight, this review also sums up how pointless Double was to this game
3:01 You are going to hell for this
Sigma: Zero you nearly killed me and you were a maverick hunter!!!!
Actually Iris appears in mega man extreme 2, but shes just another alia
Xtreme 2 also came out *after* X4, keep in mind. Several YEARS after X4, in fact, as a GBC exclusive. As in it's Japanese marketing literally uses *6's* theme music.
Yes but is it supposed to chronologically come after X4?
I don't know if it's ever addressed.
It does take place before X4.
Before X4, but as the OP said, she does absolutely nothing but hint at Colonel being a thing in X4.
it's chronologically between X3 and X4, i believe
Can't believe Magma Dragoon's motivation is literally identical to Vegeta allowing Babidi to possess him. 🤦♂️
6:31 If anyone asks where the hell is this screencap from, it's Neptunia mk2. And yes, they had Inafune in it.
Sigma also promised to give Magma Dragoon Power, according to his dialogue when you defeat him as Zero.
nice love your views on these games too many people give these games unadulterated praise so it is nice to see a man who loves these games critique them as well
Still kinda pissed about how they treated X in this game, jesus.
Couldn't even give him the same amount of unique cutscenes Zero had?
6:31 I can't breathe dude, that seriously caught me off guard
Okay you killed me with placing 'that's a good question' after Zero's bit.
X was given an actual, legitly cast voice actor in Kento Ito compared to Ruth Shirashi just shoved into the role of English X to do voices for one or two takes with little if any guidance.)
youre probably the only person on this earth that perfers the 4 charge shots
5:05 to be fair, I think he wanted them to go all out against him and just asking them to fight wouldn't have done that (especially with X)
He didn't need to go this far
10:19 - Maybe that's why GUN raided the Ark? Gerald was making weapons, but they got a little nervous when they noticed one day that the most powerful one was pointing right at them.
3:35 lmao that “oh shit” clip
HELL YES
Ryan Fanstone U (because why not)
I was waiting for this!
HELL NO!
Ryan Fanstone well if you wanna screw me, let me get ready
Well this escalated quickly
I know what I'm fight for when Johnny's here.
Saturn X4 has better background effects.
I mean, the Saturn is a 2D BEAST. Of course it'll look 10x better.
Kinda but not really. The Saturn adds a heat wave effect in volcano and the final weapon stages. It lacks transparencies like the PSX version though.
That part at 5:38 is just amazing.
Also where is that clip he used
Red Alert 3, Allied Campaign, Final Mission...
Which is now a meme because of how Tim Curry was trying hard not to laugh before uttering "SPACE!"... Take note, this was his good take!
Zero: "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR?!?!"
Dr. Light: "That's a good question"
what am I fighting fooorrrrr!?
EM S YOU are the MVP!!
X5 and X6 still do the base gameplay fine... It's all of the other bullshit that ruins it.
X1 & X4 are my top favorites of the X series & Mega Man games in general.

KARATE CHOP ACTION
Iris' death is actually an important part of Zero's character development. It's when he realizes that he was made only to destroy, and he can't escape that.
Finally someone remembers Megaman X Command Mission! And I love those Dr. Light clips. The man clearly went senile in his older years.
