@@forestcampbell8962 I don’t think the quality is up in the air. I think that they learned their lesson from resident evil 3 remake, and that 4 is really good proof of that.

To be clear, the Saturn could have run RE2 perfectly fine. That line from Capcom was total BS. Even a fan, 1 guy by himself has ported the beginning of the game to the Saturn a year or so back. It looks a lot better for your company to say, "The system can't handle it." Than, "were not gonna get as much money out of this as we want, so we're canceling it". They made tons of 2D games for the system that annihilated the PS1 versions, but they had zero experience making 3D games for the system. Any 3D games were developed by an external or overseas team. Perhaps if they had made them in house in Japan or if the system was doing better in the west then the project wouldn't have been canceled, who knows.
that moment when you are watching the video after waking up and watch Chole update the title and it changes in real time lol. Great work as always Chole!
For me personally, Resident Evil: Code Veronica is one of the greatest video games of all time right up there with The Legend Of Zelda and Shenmue games.
The only reason this game is not called Resident Evil 3 is because Sony paid a lot of money to Capcom so that their spin-off game would be the one numbered.
Love this video. RE:CV was the first game I bought for my Dreamcast back in the day and it's nice to know that I wasn't losing my mind when I thought the game was way harder than RE1 and 2.
I don’t think Steve turning into a monster is a shame. It’s a tragedy, and that was probably their intention. For you to feel bad that this is happening to a character with a compelling story that could’ve been cool.
This game used to frustrate the hell out of me -- it was definitely a step up in challenge from its predecessors. The Nosferatu fight always took multiple tries no matter how prepared I thought was. And the Bandersnatch -- right after the Web Spinners -- he's hands down my favorite enemy.
@icedoutchurchin 1.) Start a new game. 2.) Grab NOTHING in the cell area, not even the knife. DO NOT READ THE F'N PLAYER'S MANUAL. Run all the way until you get the cutscene with Steve Burnside and end up with a gun. 3.) Change NOTHING. Don't equip the gun or do anything in the inventory, it should already "be equipped". Just run to where he does in the video (basically the next area with the herb). 4.) Pick up herb, then access inventory. Go to FILES and read the first file (which will be the Player Manual). Simply back out and it will be gone from your inventory. 5.) EXIT OUT OF THE INVENTORY and fire one shot (fire a few more to be sure you did it right, one shot and then the clip will be empty). 6.) My only problem with this game is the pacing. It really drags for me after the initial prison island section. And I do think that is enough to make the game less enjoyable than the original trilogy, I think it's much better to finish a game wanting to play more, than to be bored before it even finishes. I do however really like the game's difficulty. I wish more games had this lvl of challenge, but that might be just me. There are a few questionable inclusions like the insta kill traps that i'm a bit surprised you didn't even mention. But I just think that's funny and adds to the charm.
Hot take, but I always enjoyed Resident Evil: Code Veronica more than RE3:Nemesis(ps1). Code Veronica finally reunites the Redfield siblings, Wesker is back, umbrella's Ashford family is explored, Alexia's a great villainess, and the sibling parallel between Chris/Claire and Alfred/Alexia. Still love Re3 for concluding Raccoon City, but Code Veronica is much better imo, despite its flaws.
@@thegreatachiever4651 I love RE3: Nemesis merely because it’s the first RE game I ever played and because it’s the end of a trilogy. Honestly, the Resident Evil story would’ve been perfect had Capcom stopped at part 3. I played Code Veronica and to this day feel that it is just an okay game; not great, but not so bad either. I feel it could’ve been better and I do hope that if it’s remade that Capcom consider making it awesome the way they’ve done with the most recent remakes (not including RE3 remake).
@@renelopez4903 Nice, RE3(ps1) was also my first back then.❤ Re2(ps1) is my number 1 favorite next to Re1 Remake. While the RE series could've ended at 3, I think it would've been kinda awkward. Umbrella was still a threat, Claire still needed to find Chris, and Re3's epilogues hinted at more stories, so it was inevitable, the series would continue. It's just Re3 was like the end of the Raccoon City story arc, along with the Outbreak games.
RE3 is my personal favorite RE game for a few reasons, but ultimately, I find it the most replayable game, and I could go on and on for why I think that (Also Nemesis exists). I still love Code Veronica, and yeah it's more important than RE3, but I do have some major critiques for it that keep it from my top 5. Edit: if there is anything I can say about CV though, best soundtrack, or atleast tied with RE2 for best. That save room theme alone is reason enough to say that
The main weakness of this game for me is the lack of ublockables/replayability. It's a solid game, but each playthrough is the same story. You don't explore new paths like you do in RE 2 and 3, and you don't play as different characters and interact with other characters like in RE 1 and 2. It would be the game I replay the least out of the 4, but damn is it my favorite story to play. Great weapons, dual wielding is fun, the zombies are incredibly dangerous and the puzzles are satisfying to solve. It may lack on replay value, but all the resident evil mechanics I loved from the trilogy are perfected in this one. The camera angles, the sfx, weapon variants, even the boss fights present a different challenge. You can't just fill them with lead like I previous fights, you need to play smart and strategize on the spot.
Back in the Dreamcast days I alternate between this and Resi 2 as the game I'd play when I wasn't sure what to play. I got good enough at 2 that it became a validation game for me while the harder Code V was there to always challenge me to do better. Also the Tyrant/plane music was awesome.
What many in the comment section failed to see or understand is,,,, Crapcom is incapable of doing a great true Remake anymore , They have failed over and over soo many times , You don't have to take my word for it , Look at thier developers , All the legendary developers that made Crapcom a house hold since the beginning have left aka Shinji Mikami , Kamiya , Keiji inafuni ,,,, And they don't wanna even ask them to come back or hire them anymore , Their shitty ego won't allow it , Also look at the voice actors that made RE so beloved , They have no respect to them whatsoever , Paul Haddad aka the real voice of Leon passed away and this company never even acknowledged his death , They won't ask Alison Court to come back to reprise her role as Clair redfield , And probably will not when they decide to butcher code Veronica , They didn't recast or asked Sally Cahil aka the real voice of ada wong to come back ether , So what does all that tells you , Ooo good modern and old fans of RE and Code Veronica ?!
I feel they don't really respect the original games. Otherwise they would've released it for every single console generation, just like Nintento has done with the classic Mario games.
@jimphilidor9031 not only that but they don't respect who made the franchise so beloved in the first place ,,,, Look at them now they are a shell of thier former self , They only thing consistent with Crapcom is Monster Hunter , Because they know that the fanbase of that franchise do not tolerate bullshit , They will skin them alive if they messed with it or changed it beyond recognition like RE ,,
It's also good to make mention of the fact that Code: Veronica was the first game to introduce a checkpoint system into the mainline series of games. Heck, it makes the game MUCH less painful if you reach one of the checkpoints before some of the boss fights and choose to retry, should you die.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica much like Resident Evil 3 is so fresh. even to this day, it's fresh. both games being very different and on separate consoles, helps both stay fresh longer. unlike Resident Evil 1 & 2 but I'm not criticizing 1 & 2 for that. we just played those games a lot during their initial release and we didn't have another game to play during that time so 1 & 2 became very stale quite quickly. that didn't happen with 3 & CV. oh and your videos have been great so far. I'm enjoying these look-backs at the classic Resident Evil games. please, don't do the remakes. they're so bad. the remakes have no charm whatsoever. they're just like today's games overall. uncreative and boring
In japan dismemberment etc is a big nono in video games. This is why the original RE had the black and white section and was missing a lot of scenes. RE4 the chainsaw decapitation was dummied out in the original. The headpop here is the probably same thing, they just didn't uncensor the game for international release.
In my opinion the original trilogy is perfect, are 3 perfect games, like 3 perfect movies, with different style of horror, being the fist mystery, the second more gore and action and the third one the running from stalker type, also you can totally say that the RE series really ended with 3, plus each game of that trilogy feels like a close experience, are really like 3 80s horror movies. Veronica and survivor really feel like spin-offs and Re4 doesn´t even feel like an Re game but another thing, Capcom didn´t have the balls to have made a new IP out of that game at that time. So Code Veronica being the real 3 "yeah right", no way !
@4:00 Huh, I just did a playthrough of Code: Veronica X on Dolphin and I have fog effects turned off so my phone can run it smoothly- it genuinely looks bizarre seeing all the fog in your footage here, and you're 100% right, it looked WAY better without it
I don't understand all the hate this game gets. I played the first 3 RE games, loved them. Then I found CV and I was amazed. The graphics were better, the panning camera with the pre rendered backgrounds, the weapons. Plus, the game was long. You got more exploration, more enemies, more of everything. Also, no Nemesis! He was the one thing I didn't like about RE 3. CV is in my top 3 RE games, Remake and 4 being the other.
you don't need to understand it. it's the kids who can't handle tank controls and difficulty as well as the RE4 fans (which aren't even RE fans) that bash that game. CV always was the peak of RE, it just aged poorly
Veronica is a total MESS, at the core is good cause it has the base RE formula, but after that is a mess, and you can tell is a mix between several leftover ideas plus answers to what the rival companies were doing, yes Capcom reacting to their own re clones, for example, you can totally tell D2, Alone in the Dark the new nightmare, the carrier, even shenmue and metal gear solid had influence in this game, and they had to add some stuff from those games to "catch" some of the hooks from those games, also there are leftovers from Re projects, there was an idea of returning to the spencer mansion, that´s why there was a mansion replica out of nowhere, some parts of the palace and base look like the castle in RE4, of course the idea of the twins comes from the original Re4 concept and then used in DMC and so on, in short, the main problem of this game is that you can tell Mikami left it at mid development and other people took over, just improvising a new game for SEGA, that´s why many of the improvements to the formula added to Re3 are absent in this game, so is it bad? is the worst of the good re games that´s my statement
Code Veronica is an essential entry to RE. It was my first game in the series and one I noticed the most in my childhood. This game has direct ties with 5, being my third game after 4 and it helped a lot with the Wesker continuity. Eventually I played all past titles. If RE5 remake is going to happen, RE1 and Code Veronica deserves their remakes first, for the sake of completing the “Wesker Trilogy” … or “quadtrilogy” if one wants to count RE4. That said, I consider Code Veronica a definite classic RE title, as if it’s a mainline series entry. You can tell the intentions were there before it got swapped for RE3.
To me it's only interesting that you get to explore the same areas in a completely different way. In the Rockford Island there's an explosion that wrecks the place and the Antarctic base floods and freezes over, so that the places don't feel too similar. It's like in Eternal Darkness where you get to explore the same handful of levels in different time periods. Generally the level design is in my opinion the best in the whole series. You don't just collect some key items from the other end of the level to open a door at the other end of the level, which is pretty much how RE2 was designed. No, in CV you have to think about how you move through the areas. For example you can't move through the cellar because it's filled with poisonous gas, so you have to circle around to turn on the fans so you can remove the gas. Or think about what you need to do to get the gems out of the tiger statue. Some call this excessive backtracking but I call it smart level design. The whole game is like a big puzzle. The level design, atmosphere and the story are reasons why it's one of the best games in the series.
I fucking love how unhinged the story of CV:X is, it really is my favourite of the series and I hope to dear god that if a remake happens they don't butcher it.
I love RE:CV. Never had Dreamcast myself, had to go to a local gaming club in like 2003 and pay by the hour for playing it and pray no other asshole would overwrite my save file, which definitely added to the stress. Good times. Later in life tried to run it on various emulators, but always had some issues, like tiger wouldn't spin. A few years back bought an Xbox 360 just to be able to play it at the comfort of my home :D I really.... really.... REALLY hope they will remake with the same love as RE2 or RE4.
I played this a good bit at a cousin's house growing up. It was the only RE she had. I can attest to the difficulty. I was not nearly the gamer I am now 20 years ago, and this game was misery for me. I was just happy to last more than 30 minutes without giving up.
Code Veronica had a PS2 port. Also, if you pre-ordered it, it came with "Wesker's Report" Resident Evil's condensed series of events through the perspective of Albert Wesker. It was a DVD. [It also came with a demo of Devil May Cry.]
I played code Veronica X. Not gonna lie.I wish I still had my dream cast. And found a copy of the game , so I could have the health bar on the controller so I don't have to check it every time. And the difficulty is insane.I have never gotten past the rockford island first part
Play it on a Dreamcast Emulator with gameshark cheats, or play the Dreamcast Kanzenban version that has an easy mode that gives you hella weapons and First Aid Sprays at the first Item box.
The farthest I made it was to where I was fighting Steve, but I didn't know how to beat him and also I ran out of ammo so I just gave up and never played the game again. I find it harder to get into than the originals but it has so much potential. Like it and Zero deserve remakes more than 4 lol
I watch a load of RE videos and some RUclips takes make me absolutely fume. While i don’t 100% agree with everything you say, it’s all well explained and your reasoning is all solid. It’s top tier RE content and i can’t imagine i’ll lose my shit and rage block you at least until we get to the first person games… ;) Keep up the good work!
I love Steve. I love how he reminds me of Leon but at the same time he has a total different personality. I felt like Capcom sort of threw him under the bus with that voice actor and they may have did that on purpose. Steve has a lot of potential as a RE character though, Capcom just needs to find a better voice actor and change up the dialogue a bit.
16:00 The must important plot point of the game is that Claire was looking for Chris. Yet after being freed from the cell, she emails Leon to contact Chris and tell him where to find her. So if she knew how to contact Chris why was she Paris "looking" for him?
I find this the best resident evil all around, mixed re2-3 with other tyrant enemies. This should have been a main title because the ending of the story makes sense with Wesker and Chris’s beef. That plane fight against the big tyrant was still the hardest boss as a kid I made it to. Then used dial up internet to read how to beat him easier.
Resident Evil Code Veronica REMAKE needs to be similar to the Resident Evil 2 Remake and to be a pure survival horror experience but with a much bigger exploration in mind
The problem i have with this is that the graphics look worse than its predecessors as do the zombies. Theres something very splotchy and slow about the whole thing, it just irks me.
This is the second RE game I have fond memories of after RE2. I love this game but the conversations in that game the biggest weakness, especially after the airplane fight when Claire told Steve there was a roach that needed to be stepped on!!! Come on that was the hardest boss fight the game and perhaps the whole series.
Playing this game on Dreamcast was surreal to me. My small town's local gas station had a Dreamcast and Code Veronica to rent (some-crazy-how) yet I can guarantee you that the owners were in no way video game enthusiasts. But they somehow always managed to make super clutch decisions on what video games etc they would stock. They had Xenogears for God's sake, at a small gas station in a town of about 1300 country folks lol.
It's one of my favorite re titles. Although I will say I do want it to get the remake treatment with added content and changing things around. Like I'd add a bonus mode like Ada's Seperate Ways where you play as Wesker during his attack on the island. It would be so fun to play as him in an expansion alongside the main story. Also I'd have Rodrigo Juan Raval be in the game a lot more. Thought he was a cool idea like have him slowly realize he's on the wrong side and help Claire and Chris more. I'd even have him live myself as a twist. Just imo of what I'd like to see in a remake.
Sure let's also cut content and change everything that made it so beloved in the first place , Why everything must everything have a remake ? I will never understand 😊
I played this for the first time recently and i really enjoyed it overall. But the one thing that really annoyed me was how often enemies were placed close to the door you just entered through. I'm fine with them having more health and the random speed boosts (since there's more ammo overall), but when you combine those with that enemy placing it's just obnoxious. Often the only possible reaction was to quickly exit and re-enter rooms so i could be ready to fire immediately that time around, and sitting through two extra door opening animations gets tiresome really fast.
It's still one of my fav in the series, although I have to admit it was also my first one and one of the first 3D games I got to play at the time so that's a pretty strong bias. Even so, I don't get why this game is so unfairly underrated. Incredible art and atmosphere even today, loved the gameplay and difficulty and the backtracking never bothered me since it was also so open (for classic re).
There was a flaw with this game, that was a design choice: You had to get accustomed to using the Knife for attacking Zombies. Otherwise you would run out of Ammo and get soft locked with the first Tyrant you fight. [At least in the play station 2 version.] They did their best to warn you, but it suffered from bad conveyance of this play style. I think Silent Hill 2 and Code Veronica were released in the same year, but I can't remember. Silent Hill 2 overshadowed Code Veronica.
Code Veronica has become so underrated but its critical to understanding the broader narrative of the classic series. Especially with the (surprise at the time) reintroduction of Wesker As cheesy as he is, ive grown to love how over the top and psychotic Alfred Ashford is. But if they remake it, i imagine he will be *heavily* altered. RIP false Alexia (Edits bc i apparently cant spell)
Your way of talking always gets me bro. Pronouncing the last words in a sentence or syllables way higher. "But since it's a forgotten title of the dreamCAST..." "It only has one SZENARIO" Or every "THO". Once you hear it you can't unhear it. Rollercoaster way of speaking, pretty unique. This video is pretty tame compared to others I've seen THO^^ much love bro

Would you consider doing two game series at the same time again? I only ask because I was surprised at how much work that seemed like it'd be, and you didnt start this until after MGS was finished instead of Ace Combat. It also seems like only one series at a time could get a bit grinding on you, but i could also see it being hard to coordinate your thoughts on the series as a whole with more time spaced between games. Was there a specific reason why you did Ace Combat and MGS at the same time? For example MGS games being really long where the Ace Combat (and AC games) can be completed relatively shorter?
I did Ace Combat and Metal Gear at the same time mostly just to keep things more fresh instead of doing videos about one game series for months on end. I might have something similar in the works here soon... but you didn't hear it from me.
These troll comments are ridiculous, and it's so obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about. The Saturn version is actually better than the PS1 version content wise, and has absolutely zero issues on a technical level.
Getting S rank was the hardest on this game, you only had the automatic save in the middle after the plane crash, no first aids, ink ribbons, had to beat it under 4hrs I believe, I was over halfway on Chris the first run and one of those enemies that jump in the air took my head off as soon as I walked outside
The problem with CV is that it came after RE3 while being a mechanical sequel to RE2. There is no ammo crafting, no free walking on stairs and no live selection just like RE2. Many aspects of it felt old and outdated on release. Yes, the new engine and dynamic camera were and are great addition, but Silent Hill had dynamic camera a year earlier on PS1. Also, to me the locations are drab, ugly and boring. CV reminds me lots of RE0 in many ways, and just like RE0, I don't replay CV that often.
I really enjoy this game, and have played it many times. I agree with most things you've said, but disagree with the point about difficulty. The knife is completely OP in this game, and slashing legs of zombies basically makes them useless. I'd actually much rather if the knife was as bad as in other titles.
I never understood any hate code Veronica got. I loved it. I do agree that the pacing struggles as Chris, but that's because you're now backtracking a section for at least a 3rd time since you already back track as Claire.
First ever played Resident Evil in 2021. Played 2,3,4 and Code Veronica. Veronica minimum is a 8/10 even now, even with it's cringe. Minus one for poor written characters and minus one for moments where you feel like a few additional rooms would be better than backtracking. Fire extinguisher moment was the most creative way to hide revolver in RE games
Despite its exaggerated backtracking, I will forever love this game.

Code Veronica X is my second favorite resident evil game. Original RE2 is by far my favorite.
That’s my pick
Same
Same.
Cvx is definitely in my top 3 favorite Resident Evil games ever made. I played the original on ps2 and still do to this day in ps5. I love the game.
I'm now a fan of : "with that out of the way"
To be clear, the Saturn could have run RE2 perfectly fine.
Here is a tip for everyone playing the game. Bats can not attack you when you use the lighter.
The Ashford laugh will always haunt me
Green herb glitch was a lifesaver on this back in the day 😂
@@maxmcallister9662 what’s the glitch again?
@icedoutchurchin
1.) Start a new game.
6.) Reaccess inventory and now the herb is glitched! You can heal as many times as you want with this one herb. DO NOT COMBINE IT WITH ANYTHING OR IT WILL LOSE THE PROPERTIES.
7.) This herb can be moved to anywhere in your Inventory and in the Item Box, thus meaning you can Transfer it to Chris.
8.) If you DO pick up herbs, make sure to keep track of which one is glitched and which one isn't. The video shows it "flickering" however that's only due to the quality of the video, the actual herb does no such thing so you either know which one is which or you could end up in trouble.

My only problem with this game is the pacing.
Love your review of this game! Would like to see a RE Revelations 1 & 2 in the future!!!
@@renelopez4903 Nice, RE3(ps1) was also my first back then.❤
Re2(ps1) is my number 1 favorite next to Re1 Remake.
That save room theme alone is reason enough to say that
@@arkthegreenwolfx3627Agreed, Code Veronica's music is outstanding; G-Birkin boss music and Alexia's are tied for me.
RE3 has a better level design, gameplay, replay value, etc.
This is my favorite RE that isn't 4.
Love the save room music in this game. One of my favorites!
Out of all the games with the original tank controls this is probably the hardest one. It did not hold your hand with the puzzles.
Great point about the pacing … I felt that the game was over when Chris showed up
Resident Evil: Code Veronica much like Resident Evil 3 is so fresh. even to this day, it's fresh. both games being very different and on separate consoles, helps both stay fresh longer. unlike Resident Evil 1 & 2 but I'm not criticizing 1 & 2 for that. we just played those games a lot during their initial release and we didn't have another game to play during that time so 1 & 2 became very stale quite quickly. that didn't happen with 3 & CV. oh and your videos have been great so far. I'm enjoying these look-backs at the classic Resident Evil games. please, don't do the remakes. they're so bad. the remakes have no charm whatsoever. they're just like today's games overall. uncreative and boring
This was my first RE and seeing as im still a fan to this day, it did its job
In japan dismemberment etc is a big nono in video games. This is why the original RE had the black and white section and was missing a lot of scenes. RE4 the chainsaw decapitation was dummied out in the original. The headpop here is the probably same thing, they just didn't uncensor the game for international release.
I love this game.
So Code Veronica being the real 3 "yeah right", no way !
nope, RE3 totally feels like a spin off (because it is one) and CV was the peak of classic RE
@4:00 Huh, I just did a playthrough of Code: Veronica X on Dolphin and I have fog effects turned off so my phone can run it smoothly- it genuinely looks bizarre seeing all the fog in your footage here, and you're 100% right, it looked WAY better without it
i genuinely cannot wait for your new videos, chole. you do such a great job!
3 is excellent gameplay wise...just Jill was annoying and story is dog turd. It was also easier to beat since I played it after completing CV lol.
you don't need to understand it. it's the kids who can't handle tank controls and difficulty as well as the RE4 fans (which aren't even RE fans) that bash that game. CV always was the peak of RE, it just aged poorly
Veronica is a total MESS, at the core is good cause it has the base RE formula, but after that is a mess, and you can tell is a mix between several leftover ideas plus answers to what the rival companies were doing, yes Capcom reacting to their own re clones, for example, you can totally tell D2, Alone in the Dark the new nightmare, the carrier, even shenmue and metal gear solid had influence in this game, and they had to add some stuff from those games to "catch" some of the hooks from those games, also there are leftovers from Re projects, there was an idea of returning to the spencer mansion, that´s why there was a mansion replica out of nowhere, some parts of the palace and base look like the castle in RE4, of course the idea of the twins comes from the original Re4 concept and then used in DMC and so on, in short, the main problem of this game is that you can tell Mikami left it at mid development and other people took over, just improvising a new game for SEGA, that´s why many of the improvements to the formula added to Re3 are absent in this game, so is it bad? is the worst of the good re games that´s my statement
well, that's just wrong. lol
Definitely overlooked. I wouldn’t say forgotten. Especially with all the remake rumours surrounding it.
Love this channel
CAPCOM!!!! GIVE US A REMAKE😡
A few years back bought an Xbox 360 just to be able to play it at the comfort of my home :D
I really.... really.... REALLY hope they will remake with the same love as RE2 or RE4.
I love u for making this video this was the scariest games too me growing up love everything about this game
I played this a good bit at a cousin's house growing up. It was the only RE she had. I can attest to the difficulty. I was not nearly the gamer I am now 20 years ago, and this game was misery for me. I was just happy to last more than 30 minutes without giving up.
RE originals 1, 2 ,3 and code veronica is a solid franchise and perfect
Truly a gem of a game. It’s updated version of Re1 and Re2. I agree with the rating, too 🎉
Code Veronica had a PS2 port. Also, if you pre-ordered it, it came with "Wesker's Report" Resident Evil's condensed series of events through the perspective of Albert Wesker. It was a DVD.
[It also came with a demo of Devil May Cry.]
I hope that one day, we get a remake of CV, so that everyone can learn about this gem. *I am biased, as it is my favorite game.*
RE:CV is my 2nd favorite game in the series. I played it first on DC and then again on the PS2.
I think you forgot to change the title brother 😂
nah it was definitely supposed to be called "Resident Evil Code Veronica - Review - Final Version.mp4" :)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica, is the next remake. Finally joy.
This is probably the best Veronica review
It's still one of my fav in the series, although I have to admit it was also my first one and one of the first 3D games I got to play at the time so that's a pretty strong bias. Even so, I don't get why this game is so unfairly underrated. Incredible art and atmosphere even today, loved the gameplay and difficulty and the backtracking never bothered me since it was also so open (for classic re).
There was a flaw with this game, that was a design choice:
You had to get accustomed to using the Knife for attacking Zombies. Otherwise you would run out of Ammo and get soft locked with the first Tyrant you fight. [At least in the play station 2 version.]
They did their best to warn you, but it suffered from bad conveyance of this play style.
I think Silent Hill 2 and Code Veronica were released in the same year, but I can't remember. Silent Hill 2 overshadowed Code Veronica.
Silent Hill 2 did get released in 2001, probably.
Yup Code Veronica "X" came out in 2001 same year as Silent Hill 2 so yeah it got overshadowed
Code Veronica has become so underrated but its critical to understanding the broader narrative of the classic series. Especially with the (surprise at the time) reintroduction of Wesker
As cheesy as he is, ive grown to love how over the top and psychotic Alfred Ashford is. But if they remake it, i imagine he will be *heavily* altered. RIP false Alexia

hope to see a remake, Claire is underrated as a Heroine!
Would you consider doing two game series at the same time again? I only ask because I was surprised at how much work that seemed like it'd be, and you didnt start this until after MGS was finished instead of Ace Combat. It also seems like only one series
at a time could get a bit grinding on you, but i could also see it being hard to coordinate your thoughts on the series as a whole with more time spaced between games.
@@notcole Oh, okay who did I hear it from then?
I’m not surprised RE2 didn’t make it onto the Saturn. The Saturn could barely run RE1.
These troll comments are ridiculous, and it's so obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about. The Saturn version is actually better than the PS1 version content wise, and has absolutely zero issues on a technical level.
11:10 You couldn't use a lightgun with Gun Survivor only in the US: here in Europe, we didn't have that issue.
I do know some say this game needs a remake that has changes that fix problems like backtracking and the such.
Absolutely love cvx. My favourite after re2 og. Great music. I like the backtracking. It's part or RE.
This is the TRUE RE3; RE3 Nemesis is really just DLC for RE2.
I love this game … so hard but feels so isolated
I always liked this game. A remake would be great.
Can you cover Outbreak? 👍👍
I never understood any hate code Veronica got. I loved it. I do agree that the pacing struggles as Chris, but that's because you're now backtracking a section for at least a 3rd time since you already back track as Claire.
kids... they didn't even play it
First ever played Resident Evil in 2021.
The fog is a legit complaint. Nothing else.
Would love to see this breakdown type of silent hill.
One of the best save themes fr
How can you give Chris the uzis and calico guns ? I thought they were eclusive to Claire and Steve ?
If they're in the item box when you swap over to Chris you can just take them back out :)
Code Veronica should have gotten a remake before 4&5
